We visited the Clayton recently while attending a concert on the Saturday. The staff were so friendly and attentive in all areas of the hotel. We had a lovely meal in the hotel before heading off to the concert. Our room was so comfortable and luxurious. The breakfast on Sunday morning was delicious with a great selection to suit all needs and very plentiful. Beautiful gardens in the front of hotel. We look forward to visiting in the near future on our next visit to Dublin.

Stayed here with my teens. 100% recommend for families touring Dublin. Very safe neighborhood and near public transport. Clean rooms and everything from check in to check out was easy and nice. Nothing to do with the hotel, just an FYI. We had trouble getting an Uber XL for an early morning flight. Ended up taking the Air Coach. We were able to buy tickets from the driver. Would recommend staying here and we would stay here again.

We were here for our friends’ wedding, and what can I say — it felt like a fairytale. The building is absolutely stunning, the grounds are beautiful, and everything was so elegant and well-organized. A magical setting for a very special day!

The hotel is located in a very good area. Easy access to the city center. The room was comfortable and modern. The bathroom was clean. The reception staff were very pleasant professional and helpful. Good value for the money we paid. All in all it is a very good place. We would stay there again.

Hotel was booked by our tour company (C.I.E.) and we were thrilled with this beautiful place. It’s south of town, but an easy 15-minute city bus ride leaving very frequently and going right to the Temple Bar District. Good hot breakfast, also; it was included for us, but well worth a cost. Good room, one of the bigger ones we had. Good bed, good bath, great service all around. And, there are pubs within 10-15 minute walking distance, which we visited.

I came here for work (Had an event in the RDS right next door), so taking into account the location and how busy Dublin was, the price was not the cheapest but it was far from being prohibitively expensive, and given the location, it was simply great.||The check in procedure was a breeze, I checked in online, and with the help of the guys there that showed me how to use the self check in machine, I was able to check in in less than a minute. Overall the staff, were really professional and polite.||The room I booked was a deluxe king, and it was so nice and spacious, the bed was amazing, I slept like a baby.||All in all, next year I’ll definitely going to come back.

Myself and my family of 3 stayed here for one night while attending the Dua Lipa concert. The hotel is very clean and modern with a large bar and restaurant. The onsite parking was good and included if staying in the hotel. The price was €400 for one room with 2 double beds for one night. But I know the reason is because the concert was on so prices are inflated. Alcohol prices are also on the high side a large bottle of Bulmers cider is €8.90 while i pay €5.80 at home. We also had pizza and a ham and cheese panini which was €30. Would stay again maybe when it is not a concert date.

Location-wise 4 stars as this is perfect due to private family reasons. As many said, the hotel needs urgently a renovation as it has crossed it's best times. Advise to the management: Clean up your entrance into the underground parking. It's the first impression your hotel guests get, and you are bumping right into a lot of big trash containers. Same when you leave the parking lot, you are about to hit the trash again. Underground parking very narrow to get down, we had to be very careful with a Skoda Kodiak. Service-wise not the best experience. Check-in unfriendly, not very empathetic and we had an issue with the toilet flush (not working), told the reception in the morning around 9am and when we were back at 3:30pm nobody looked after it. Room was cleaned and the staff clearly must have heard, that the water in the toiled is constantly running and should have reported the issue. Also they folded the wet towel I used in the morning and put it back on the rack. Winners of the not my job award to be brutally frank. Overall the hotel is very dark and we don't felt comfortable. Underground parking is also dark and looks like a crime scene (okay a bit exaggerating but it is what it is).

Yelp
Beautiful old building, friendly staff, decent bar and restaurant, but in serious need of an overhaul. The lobby and restaurant are nice, but the rooms are lacking the basics or in need of an update. There were no outlets on the side of the room with the bed, and I could only find one that was working that wasn't already occupied by another appliance (coffee / TV) and it was difficult to use my laptop on the table/desk to try to rebook my flight. It seems like this hotel is mostly used by tour groups and airline rebook overnight delays. I wouldn't necessarily book this as a top choice, but it wasn't too bad. The employees were all very nice and tried to accommodate as best they could. The restaurant was 7/10 and the bar was 8.5/10 for how accommodating they were for my very American request for ice multiple times. Breakfast was 6/10 for the buffet.

Yelp
Great location, nice bar and restaurant on site. Staff was wonderful. They are updating the elevator equipment (Lifts) which will be a much welcomed improvement! Can't wait to go back

Yelp
Starting with the positive, the hotel is in a historic building that is beautiful from the outside. The rooms lack basic necessities(hair dryer, fridge). There is no thermostat and the rooms get quite stuffy. You can open a window but I was on the ground floor and my window opened up to an alley so didn't feel secure leaving my window open. I stayed at the Clayton across town which was ten times better than this hotel and staff. Also stayed at the Clayton in London which was also much better. Would definitely not stay here again.

Yelp
Staff is somewhat helpful. The hotel is outdated. Shower curtains smell like mildew. There's no air conditioning. The rooms are fairly clean, but our nonsmoking room sure smelled a lot like cigarettes. It's just an OK hotel that's a step up from run down hotels. I don't think it's worth the price for what you get. The bathtub is dangerously high and you could definitely break your neck if you slip or stumble. They advertise luxury but it's a lie. It just looks grand on the outside and the restaurant looks nice, but the rooms and hallways show the wear and tear of this building. Another annoyance is the fact that there's only 1 lift for all of the guests.

Yelp
My sister and I stayed here a couple of nights while on a Brendan tour of Ireland. The building is very unique, pretty old which we were told was once an orphanage. The lobby, restaurant and bar area were all very nice and looked very new. Our room was more dated, not terribly so, but it was okay for a 2 night stay. Only complaint, as others have mentioned, there is no air conditioning so the first night we were so hot, even with the open window. Our room faced what I would call an alley, and 1 morning around 5:00 am someone was out there banging stuff around and making a huge racket, that was annoying. We did request a fan for our room and they did bring one to our room which helped somewhat, we appreciated that. Another downside, The Ballsbridge area is not very close to the City Centre or Temple Bar area, but getting a taxi or a bus is easy. Overall a nice stay.

Yelp
Poor breakfast. Dated rooms. Unfriendly staff. I don't think a single Irish person works there. They were ALL Eastern European.

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful and located about 15 minutes by car away from central Dublin where you'll find Temple Bar and many restaurants. I wanted to be away from that busyness, so I was ok with taking a cab ride back and forth. Now let's talk about what's lacking... The hotel is massive, and it doesn't appear to be staffed with enough employees to accommodate the amount of guests. I know that many businesses across the world are experiencing staff shortages due to the virus, and some are just making due. I also understand and sympathize with what's happening to the people in Ukraine, but with that said, either the Irish aren't seeking employment at this hotel or they're getting replaced by the non-english speaking Ukrainians now employed in the restaurant and reception areas. In the restaurant, they're unable to understand my order because of a language barrier, and to make things worse, I've been double and triple charged for items, or they bring me the wrong order. The amount of time spent on finding someone to fix the ticket is beyond frustrating when you're short in time. At the check-in counter, I was met with an Eastern European man on several occasions who was rude, and wouldn't extend my stay by 7 days claiming there was no availability and he was "busy" when I requested water. I wrote an email to the hotel and got a phone call from a lovely Irishman who immediately modified my stay without a problem. Someone as rude as the guy at the reception desk shouldn't work in hospitality because it ruins the reputation of this hotel. As much money that was invested into restoring it, and the cost per night paid by guests, it should also match the customer service that now is lacking. My room was beautiful and very quiet. The only issue I had is when I took a shower, the water came out brown for a while and the shower floor was dirty. It looks like they made an attempt to clean it, but stopped. See picture.

Yelp
This was the last hotel I stayed at in Ireland, Great location on the outskirts of Dublin. Bus stop right in front of the hotel, for a quick 10 min drive into Dublin or if the weather is nice just walk.. I made it in about 20/30 minutes. The hotel was under construction while I was there. Lot's of cranes and scaffolding outside but you never really heard anything. The lobby area is smaller then most hotels but it's cozy. A few couches and chairs, beautiful flowers were out everyday as well as two different types of newspapers. My room was very nice, comfortable king sized be, large desk... still getting used to all hairdryers are stored outside the bathroom. You just have to hunt to find it. Bathroom was normal size, great shower pressure. My window had a view of another building.. but I wasn't planning on hanging out here to much! The heater was amazing in the room, within minutes the room was nice an warm. The restaurant is located on the bottom floor, take the staircase down from the lobby. I had dinner here one night .. the beef in Guinness gravy with vegetables...very good! I had the Guinness hop house 13.. perfect pairing for my food. I also had breakfast here each morning, went with the buffet. Lot's of different options here, I usually went with eggs, toast and yogurt. Coffee was especially good here. Their is a small bar outside the restaurant. Only a few bar seats available but there are couches and chairs scatted throughout. I would hangout here after dinner with some people in my group watching whatever sports game was on... rugby, soccer or football and having a few pints! I was very impressed with the staff here, from helping with directions to bringing extra coffee to my room. They just seemed to go above and beyond.

Yelp
Room was clean. Breakfast was good. Reception staff are not very friendly and some are flat out incompetent. They don't understand English- that's not insulting, they literally said they didn't understand me when I called to see if we left something back in our room after check out. When I asked them to check list and found- she had no idea what I was talking about and told me to email customer service. ???? When you are visiting an unknown city, you need people who are able to assist you, not just hand you a key.

Yelp
Had a hotel reservation set up for months, confirmed that check in time was 2pm. The day finally arrives and after 20 hours of traveling they tell us our hotel won't be ready until 4pm (it was 11am when they told us that). They told us they'd hold our luggage for us during the wait, and it was piled into the lobby with other guests' luggage out in the open. Once 4pm rolled around, they gave us our rooms. We had two booked rooms together, however they told us one room is on the top floor and one is on the second floor. This isn't what you want to deal with when you just travelled all day long. We get to one of the rooms that we requested two separate beds in, and they only gave us one bed. After they finally fixed everything, we got our rooms. Now I will say, the views were very nice and it was very close to a lot of nice restaurants and bars. Wish our room had more than one outlet to charge phones or even a mini fridge. Bath Tub was hard for an elderly person to get into as it was very deep and the sides were tall. As I said some pros were the views, the location of the hotel and the staff was nice most of the things wrong weren't their fault but I wish most of it went better.

Yelp
The entrance is clean. Lobby is a bit cramped. Not very many seats available when you're waiting for your room to be ready. When you try to take the lift, there's only one working, so it gets full if there's 5 people with luggage, and if there's a bus-full of guests, then it's a problem. After getting the luggage to our room, we mostly take the stairs because it's a traffic jam all the time at the lift. That's a big problem after a long day out. The bathroom sink has a very slow drain as well as the bath tub, so you won't fancy a bath at all. They provide an all-in-one liquid soap. That means it's a shampoo, conditioner and body wash in one. Then there were pieces of old french fries under the bed that we found by accident when the bed rolled away. The area around though is very good. The restaurant staff is very good, accommodating and friendly. The receptionist, Katherine, is very helpful. One of our luggage suffered damage from their luggage service, taking our luggage from our room to our coach, and never told us. We just found out when we collected our luggage at the next hotel stop. And when we got to Dublin, there was a heatwave and the hotel did not have A/C and never offered us any electric fan. We couldn't sleep because it was hot. And there are no power outlets at bedside. Our first 2 days in Dublin was not impressive.

Yelp
5* for customer service. Excellent staff tonne fair. After reading previous comments was concerned. However the staff couldn't do enough for you. They were so helpful and polite in the front desk, let us check in early, all very straight forward and no faff whatsoever. The bar staff were spot on. A chap there called James A was an utter legend and a funny guy whose service was outstanding. The rest was just average. Nothing bad at all, but nothing wow at all either. The hotel room didn't have a minibar innit, which isn't a problem, just noted that at 3in the morning when gasping for something to drink fizzy pop or water, so on. They did have a bottle of fizzy and a bottle of still complimentary water in the room though. Room service comes with a standard €7 added on to it no matter what you order. But, the food itself is a decent quality and arrives really quickly. The room was clean and tidy and had decent dressing gowns, those freebie slippers, a good iron and board, and lovely pillows! The breakfast wasn't anything to write home about. For €15 (13 if you use the discount card the receptionist gives you), the sausages were not great at all, bread was standard medium sliced white supermarket bread, all other ingredients very standard the orange juice cheap rubbish, and you would think they would have a better quality to offer their guests, this is the sort of breakfast you'd expect in a travel lodge, not keen at all. All in all a lovely hotel, outstanding staff, with a few minor tweaks it could be a really great hotel. More than happy to go back there again, but won't opt in for the brekky!

Yelp
This hotel has terribly dated rooms and an unfriendly reception staff. We arrived after flying 10 plus hours from the US and per their website checkin is at 3 pm. We arrived at 2:30 pm hoping for a checkin and rudely the check-in staff person interrupted us and said "NO IT'S 4 PM" practically orderly us to go away. I tried to show her the website says 3 pm but she practically ordered me to go away with "NO IT'S 4 PM." Also I had a confirmed twin-bed room and she wanted to force a king size bed room on me - completely rude and dictatorial to a hotel guest. Only after I asked to speak with a manager did she acquiesce and 'suddenly' find a twin-bed room for us. But she still ordered us to go away until 4 pm. She didn't even offer to take our luggage until we asked. The rooms are dank and dated, old furniture...it's so bad they even diluted their toiletries to a water like consistency. Also no air conditioning so terrible on a warm day. Don't stay here - it's not worth the money at all!

Yelp
Terrible hotel. Following observations... -staff is rude -bathtub handle had metal rust that came off on my kids hands -there was a giant spider on the ceiling above the bed -no fridge in room, no working ice machine anywhere in the hotel -parking costs $$$ -restaurant and bar staff is racist. Served my husband when he came by alone. Did not serve us when we came together (husband is white, I'm not). Took my husband 3 trips to the bar and to the servers corner to finally get us drinks. And when I ordered another drink, it took them 20 minutes to bring it and it was not what I had ordered. The server left in a hurry and spilled my drink. No actions were taken to remedy the situation. -children are frowned at -there is construction going on in the back so it's noisy -furnishing is old -carpets have small stains everywhere -poorly decorated (reminds me of my grand uncle's house) This was the 10th hotel during our trip across Ireland and the worst.

Yelp
The restaurant at this hotel is terrible! Waited forever for food to come out. We went downstairs to have dinner at 7:30,pm food didn't come out until 8:45pm...once the food was served, all the sautéed veggies were salty! We could ate only the grilled fish on the dish cuz everything else was just horrible. The water in the bathtub was all clogged. The blow dryer didn't even blow any hot air We stayed at 4 hotels during our stay in Ireland and by far, this has been the worse experience! Wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
Ew- this place is such a gross shithole. I'm exhausted and don't want to pay for a different hotel and haul my two suitcases to another location. This hotel literally smells bad and looks nothing like the website's picture. The pillows smell like dirty hair. I just stayed in an Airbnb that went to the trouble of using washable pillow covers but an established 4-star hotel can't manage to provide clean mattresses or pillows? Gross.

Yelp
Water was shut off for renovations from 11pm-6am for planned renovation work. This was not disclosed during my reservation, now upon check in and only was found out by me on my last night preceding a very long international trip home. When I called down to reception to let them know I had no running water, I was at that time informed of the planned water outage. They offered to send up a bottle of water. Poor business practice at a minimum. I really disappointed that I spent nearly 300.00 EU/night. I don't know what the customer rights are in Ireland but I feel at least posting this review, others have some fair warning of what they may face if they choose to stay here.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff. Very nice n huge room, the only down side to this hotel is the roomthe gibe us have no air conditioning, and no refrigerator which sucks, cause we wrre travel from the us, and my son is 18 months old and he need his milk on demand. I have to make several trip in the night to the bar to get milk and ask them to warm it for me beside that the charge for the milk $1.50 EU per cup. Tje next day I bought milk from the supermarket n had to cold it the ice from the ice machine, and used the coffee pot to warm it up. Besides the bathroom only the shower work n my son needs to take bath so i had to wipe him down and the bathroom was very filthy. I would not recommend this hotel for families especially with babies.

Yelp
Currently staying here. Heatwave in Ireland, and hotel has no climate control. Score 1 for climate change. Only way to cool is open window at night. However, bar on site as a rowdy group, and past midnight they're still singing "Bohemian Rhapsody". As sung by Freddy Mercury, a great song. Not so much by the choir out the window whose leader appears to be tone deaf and was likely rejected from a singing reality TV contest. Tried to call front desk, and no answer. Perhaps this is an Irish tradition. If I didn't have to get up early, I'd head down. Remodeling noise is only a problem if taking a nap after a long flight, otherwise it's not a problem when you're away from the hotel. I will keep you informed.

Yelp
Gorgeous exterior. Lovely interior. Great breakfast and dinner. Has a good bar inside as well. Has several nice areas for relaxing or reading a good book. It's down the road from some good restaurants. You will probably have to take a taxi or bus into down, which is the only downside. Otherwise lovely place.

Yelp
One star at best. Cold and stark, throw back to the 80's. No AC in room. Windows have limited opening with wire cords - why? Stuffy. Noisy garbage cans in the early hours. No proactive service like "your laundry has arrived", yes collect it yourself from reception. Food average.

Yelp
Before I write up this review I would like to state that the staff were very accommodating when issues were mentioned. - Before going forward I do want to also mention that we stayed for a total of 7 nights and spent well over €3000.00 at the Clayton Ballsbridge. - Restaurant always seemed very understaffed. Service to tables was not timely or very accurate. Multiple occasions we had meals or drinks brought to us where we had to explain that they were not ours and not ordered by us. - When bills/checks were presented at the end of meals, they were very inaccurate. Multiple meals and drinks not ordered by us were always present on our tabs. We snacked and drank at the bar/restaurant at least 4 nights out of our 7 nights. I feel that proper staffing would help tremendously. - On multiple occasions, many tables, booths, bar tops, seats were always littered and not wiped down. It made it difficult to find clean seating. - Menu items would come out with items that were not mentioned, and show up without items that were mentioned in the menu. The Artisan/charcuterie board to be exact, no house pickles, no olives, no roasted vegetables, no onion relish, and no chorizo. It did show up with a random salad and some sort of mustard dressing... when mentioned to the staff they seemed to have to idea what really went on it. They brought back a few olives, some more cheese, and some sort of pickled red pepper....We ate it and just paid for it. - The last evening in Dublin/Ballsbridge we decided to have a few more snacks and converse over beers. We had a mixed salad and 2 orders of chips along with 1 order of chicken wings. Chicken wings were great so we decided to get 1 more order. 1 hour and 16 minutes go by, we just decide to cash out and not make a big deal out of. Our tab all of a sudden consists of 1 burger, 1 fish and chips, 3 chicken wings, 3 sides of chips + the beers/wine we had. I had to explain that we never received our second order of chicken wings let alone ordered a third..he insisted to tell us we ate them...we have two plates on the table and 7 glasses which were all empty.. they haven't bussed anything is well over 2 hours. I told him to go check under the heat lamps in the kitchen, The Manager took notice of the situation and made sure our tab ended up accurate to what we received. Kudos to the great bar manager, but please work on staffing and properly training restaurant and bar staff. Room accommodation and front desk staff were great!

Yelp
Hotel going under renovations but the staff couldn't be more helpful. During Storm Emma the staff stayed over on the hotel and every single one of them tried to make everyone comfy and happy. An incredible staff!

Villa F.

Yelp
The front desk staff was very snippy with me. They even told me I was pronouncing my last name wrong....I think I know how to pronounce my own name. The decor is outdated and the beds are extremely hard. The carpeting in the hallways are gross and have stains all over them especially at the hotel room doorways. If you are American...please understand that there are no air conditioners in the rooms. You have pay 5 euro to borrow a fan and you do not get your money back when you return it. The regular staff was kind unlike the front desk staff. The only thing that saved this hotel from getting a one star was the breakfast options. They had a lot of gluten free options and it was very well set up and extremely clean in the dining area.

Yelp
Noisy and a mess! The Clayton is undergoing renovation and is noisy and a mess. My room was located near the rear loading dock and noisy deliveries began at 6:45 am. Then in the afternoon, workers were drilling into concrete until 5:30 pm. The Clayton Manager said that there is not much they can do about this before 6:00 pm during the renovation. So stay away from the Clayton.

Yelp
I've stayed in hotels all over Ireland and this is the worst so far. The first clue that it was a terrible hotel was when I went to check in and found they'd given my room away. This is a room I'd booked 9 months in advance. I found out after they gave me the key, I opened the door, and found someone else's stuff already unpacked. They spent 15 minutes trying to figure out what they'd done wrong. The second thing, the one that tipped me over the edge, was when we went down to dine at the restaurant in the hotel. The wait staff is MEAN -- and that's putting it nicely. There were hardly any people in the restaurant when my group of about 20 sat down. The waiter took the order of half the table, got distracted, then walked away. He didn't place the orders of the first half of the table, HE WALKED AWAY. After 15 minutes, he came back, took the rest of our orders and then didn't come back for another 20 minutes. When the food started arriving, I figured I'd get mine quickly. I'd just ordered a dessert since I wanted to eat something quickly and then head to bed after a long day of travel (plus, this food is OVERPRICED). Well, this was not to be. The waiter delivered all the entres and nothing else. I tried to get his attention to tell him I wanted my food right away. He avoided looking at me at all cost. I literally waved my hands above my head while he was within 10 feet and he ducked and avoided me. Asshole. My sister at the other end of the table flicked her hand up for a split second and he walked over to her. About 5 of us had only ordered dessert; she was one of them, so she asked if it would come out soon. He told her yes and walked away. When all the entres were eaten, he started to bring out dessert. The asshole waiter brought dessert out first TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAD JUST FINISHED EATING THEIR MAIN MEAL. I was FUMING. I can't stress this enough. I'd been awake for 34 hours at the point with no real meal and I just wanted something in my stomach so I could go to bed. I continued to try to get his attention and he continued to ignore me. I stared daggers at him and his boss who was observing. When he delivered the desserts to those of us who had only ordered desserts, he skipped me and continued on. Again, asshole and if I could have strangled him then, I would have. When he finally had my in hand, he started to reach across the table to give it to me, then his boss said something and he pulled it back to respond. So now he's standing 3 feet away with the only food I ordered, I'm literally the last person of the 20 of us to get food, I'm crying I'm so angry and hungry and tired and he's f-ing talking to his boss about something unrelated. When he finally passed it to me, he'd given me the burnt piece. It was so overcooked it was inedible. I couldn't eat it. I will NEVER go back to this place and I would suggest against anyone else going there. Absolutely a terrible time.
