In-Depth Review of Clear Sky Resorts Bryce Canyon in Utah - AFAR

"This futuristic bubble-hotel retreat sits in a private 80-acre canyon just 15 minutes from Bryce Canyon National Park and is designed for immersive night-sky viewing, with standalone glass-domed accommodations (each with private fire pits and massive curtains) and floor-to-ceiling triangular windows that frame the desert cliffs and constellations. Opened in August 2024 as the brand’s second property, it will ultimately feature 62 luxury domes (about two dozen currently in operation) in categories ranging from the 438-sq-ft Lil Dipper (king bed) through the 610-sq-ft Big Dipper Stardust (including a playful Supernova disco option) to the 790-sq-ft Milky Way, which adds a loft with two twin beds but includes a spiral staircase that may not suit toddlers. The on-site Sky Nova Café, Bar & Grill continues the space-age vibe with spaceship-like furnishings and a breakfast menu of whimsically named dishes (flying saucer pancakes, stardust sandwich, space monkey French toast, astro-cado toast, and the “cosmic quesadilla”) and a dinner menu that ranges from pan-seared rainbow trout to a signature boar/beef/elk/bison burger, plus a kids’ menu and live singer-songwriter music at night. Guests praise the property for family-friendly programming (kids’ activities, yoga, guided stargazing, lawn games, scenic trails) and exceptional dark-sky viewing—Bryce Canyon is an International Dark Sky Park—while staff are friendly and helpful even as the resort continues to ramp up staffing, which can cause occasional service delays. It’s remote enough to feel like an immersive nature escape yet conveniently located off scenic Highway 12 near small towns (Tropic) and within driving distance of Zion, Capitol Reef, Dixie National Forest, and Grand Staircase–Escalante; note that rugged dirt roads and varied dome placement can affect privacy and accessibility, though single-level domes and staff rides are available for guests with mobility concerns." - Michelle Baran

On-site offerings include a glass-dome, futuristic-themed restaurant serving breakfast and dinner, yoga sessions, nightly live music, a Frisbee-golf course, yard and board games, a firepit with complimentary s’mores, stargazing tours, and a projection dome with planetarium-style movies. The room was hot; it was so hot that I felt like I was going to have a heat stroke. The water in the shower was super hot and wouldn’t drain completely. The location is close to my home, so that was nice. The service at the restaurant was not very nice. They were a bit nicer on the first day, and on the second day, they were better than on the first day. Sage was very nice at the restaurant. We got nice marshmallows! The good part is that the horseback riding was nice, and there were not a lot of bugs on the horses because we went on the first morning ride at 7:15am.

Our stay at Clear Sky Resorts Bryce Canyon was absolutely magical and a once in a lifetime experience. Pulling into the resort was super cool and the check in process was seamless and super easy. Our clear glass dome was amazing and pure luxury. The bed was so comfortable and we loved the rain fall shower. Most of all we loved going to sleep watching the stars through the glass dome! The food was delicious and the staff went out of their way to make sure we felt special. We were so close to many national parks which we absolutely loved. I highly recommend you check this place out and you will not be disappointed.

We stayed at Clear Sky for our girls trip to hike Bryce Canyon. The location was great. The star gazing was incredible…truly awe inspiring. The dome was comfortable, especially the beds. There was a problem with our air conditioning the first day, so they split us up into two smaller units, which wasn’t great for the sleepover feeling of a girls trip. We were reunited for nights 2 and 3 though. We were also disappointed to learn the advertised full bar was not in operation, and the restaurant was closed, except for patio seating. Overall, I would recommend Clear Sky, based on the night sky alone.

This was a 5 star experience with 3 star accommodations. The whole experience was dreamy. Sleeping under the stars in a clear room was an experience like no other. We were close to amazing hiking areas like the famous Bryce Canyon, Kodachrome Basin and many others. The whole hype of the hotel was just so cool and adventurous, and it was always so exciting to pull into the grounds and drive to our room. However, the amenities of the room can definitely be improved. There was very minimal storage for your belongings, we had to leave everything in the suitcase, and it definitely could’ve been cleaner. There is housekeeping, but the room never felt like it was really cleaned throughly, which is hard when you’re coming back feeling so dirty after a day of hiking. Also, the hotel needs some night action. The star gazing was fun, but it would’ve been nice to have a place to sit and have a drink and socialize with other guests. I just expected a little bit more of a quality feel to the room. I’d go back in a second, but I’d manage my expectations. There was a small fridge freezer, microwave and counter area to prepare food which was great.

My wife and I stayed there while visiting Bryce Canyon. The Dome pros: Big high end bathroom Nice outdoor deck Drapes were easy to use The Dome cons: Air conditioner insufficient (hot during day) Domes were less private than anticipated (see attached photo) Bed was not high end I give dome rooms 4 stars. My main complaint was with restaurant which I give 2 stars. The restaurant food was good but everything else was a mess. Our service was terrible we had to set up our own sun umbrella for our table, waitress disappeared and we had to go find her to pay the bill. There was no alcohol serviced inside or outside the dining area. The bar is beautiful but something is not right why it was not open. Overall this is not a well oiled machine. A lot of young inexperienced staff not at all capable of running a high end facility. The novelty of the domes is nice but the price and service are not worth it.

An absolute must do. We felt like we were sleeping in outer space. We were upgraded at check in to a more secluded done. Domes were amazing, clean, and totally fun. We loved the stargazing and awesome views. Even saw wildlife. We had complimentary s’mores kits and loved the fire pit experience. I would highly recommend. We opted for dinner at their on site restaurant and were pleasantly surprised with delicious food, drinks, and live music. Best stay of the 4 hotels we picked for our trip!

Our bed in these fabulous Geodesic Domes was very comfortable. We were able to see an enormous amount of stars from our bed. The bathroom was large and the shower was very unique. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner in the Sky Nova Cafe; there was a variety of choices on the menu. The food and service were excellent and live music was an added touch. The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. The area near Clear Sky offers numerous vistas. We look forward to a return visit.

Fantastic concept and architecture, but feels like a work in progress. Hope they can fix! The geodesic domes fit into the landscape beautifully, a unique experience with so much potential. Service was really....weird. A lot of staff, but are they all trainees? For example, flaky WiFi at our dome the entire trip, which would be fine except they make extensive use of qr codes in the room and text messaging. Roof vent inoperable entire stay making our dome really hot, and the maintenance request was not followed up. Check-in staff proudly told us about 2 trails beginning on property... But couldn't tell us where they were. I never found them. And the way some things were run...the paid stargazing tour was line-of-sight to bright dining room facilities, we had a better view at our dome! Lots of weirdness with the restaurant & kitchen: no indoor dining, no alcohol service the first 2 days, super slow service despite lots of staff. That said, still a unique and cool experience, just expect some things to be weird. And maybe they'll get folks trained, work out the kinks, and it'll become fantastic.

Yelp
Clear Sky is the most unique place we have ever stayed. The Domes are really incredibly. You can tell that a lot of planning went into the design of this resort. The beds are very comfortable and the shower jets in the shower are an added amenity. The Sky Nova restaurant is a great place to enjoy the view of the mountain and the food was delicious with a lot of variety. I encouraged everyone visiting in this area to plan a trip to Clear Sky.

Yelp
After seeing the various social media posts about Clear Sky, we decided to bite the bullet and give it a try. We traveled with another family so we ended up booking their largest dome, the Andromeda. Upon arriving at the property, it felt like we were in a sci fi film with all the dome habitats. The roads entering the property were gravel and were fine for our SUV and sedan. We found the front desk dome and the check in process was pretty straightforward. We received a binder with some information about the dome, our door code, and then drove a short distance from the main dome to our dome. We entered our dome and were amazed at the size of the interior. There was an adequate amount of space for our entire party. The beddings were nicely set up and the bathrooms were clean and neat. There was a nice "living room" area for us to congregate in. Unfortunately, after getting settled, we ran into multiple issues that negatively impacted our overall experience. First off, though the first floor was nicely cooled from their AC units, the second floor was very warm and was very uncomfortable to stay in during the day. We blasted the AC on the second floor all day and it never got cool enough until late in the evening. Secondly, the dome itself had a lot of imperfections and issues. There were holes drilled and filled on the steps, shower stalls that didn't self drain and required us to "push" the water into the drain, showers that would drip all day, the ventilation window that would not open (which then trapped hot air in the dome), and the AC in one of the bedrooms dripped water throughout our entire stay. We talked to the Frontdesk about the ventilation window and the dripping AC. All that was done was the removal of the broken motor from the window and for the dripping AC, they just placed stacks of towels under the AC unit to catch the water. Though they advertised WiFi on the property, the WiFi was effectively non existent. The only "reliable" WiFi was in the main Frontdesk dome. In general, this wouldn't have been too much of an issue, but the only way to reach the Frontdesk from our dome was to call them. But with no cell reception and no WiFi, we had no way to reach the Frontdesk. We ended up having to drive to the main Frontdesk multiple times to raise issues and to get supplies. Oddly, with what little WiFi we were able to get in our dome, the only messages that came through were all the text messages from Clear Sky marketing their additional activities and amenities. We did end up having dinner at the property and at least that experience and the food was good. We sat outside in the evening and the weather was great for outside dining. We did talk to the front desk about our key issues and we asked what they could do to make up for the issues. Their only offer to me was complimentary breakfast, but oddly, only for half of our party. For a "luxury" resort and for the price we paid, they could have at least offered to cover our entire party. The individual who I raised the issues to said that they would leave a message for the manager to contact me. But unfortunately, I never receive a call from the manager. Overall, though the dome was a unique experience, I am not sure that Clear Sky met the expectations that they had try to set especially given the price of their accomodations.

Yelp
I saw this place on Tik tok & had to book it for my 5 year anniversary & I was planning on proposing, so what better way to stay in a romantic dome! Everything was great. Finding the place was easy. Check in was smooth. Getting into the dome was easy. Comfortable bed & room. Loved the floor to ceiling glass. Very romantic. The restaurant was yummy, food was delicious, & the drinks hit. I'm glad everything was open, I read some reviews that said the restaurant & bar were closed for renovations. The complimentary smores & fire pit was a great ending to our first night. I took off a star because for the money you pay per night , I felt like it was overpriced. 1) there's no clear signage entering the building. No sign for check in desk, or what to do when entering the restaurant / bar area. Everything was uhhh where do I go? 2) the service - our server & the bartender were nice, however we were checked out pretty quickly, decided to have another drink & enjoy the live music, our server was nowhere in sight to ask if we can order another, or if they needed the table to move to the bar. Once we moved to sit at the bar, we didn't get acknowledged for a good 10 minutes. There were employees in front of us, but not one asked if how we are, if we needed a menu, etc. 3) we wanted a coffee the next morning, entering we had no idea where to go, if the coffee area was even open, no coffee menu, etc. it was all weird & confusing. 4) the vibe during dinner service, very meh. Like not up lifting at all. Maybe it was just me, but the vibe was very meh. 5) the construction in the dome wasn't done very well, as in, you can see imperfections. Looks like it was constructed fast. All in all, experience was great, but over priced. Hoping they change the ambiance as time goes on.

Yelp
The concept is fantastic - glamping under the stars. Accommodation was excellent. We had no problems in our room dome #15 & # 12. Food service has a lot of room for improvement. Our first server when we arrive 4/11 for dinner doesn't seem very happy with her job maybe because she's exhausted. They are obviously shorthanded. None of the mocktails or cocktails in the menu is available. They have canned drinks though. We ate inside the reception dome with our food served in Styrofoam since their restaurant is still under renovation, which they warned us several times before we arrive. If you order their steak, ask for a real spoon and fork as they will give you plastic serveware for your $$36 (before tax and tip) strip steak ‍. That being said, if you have early plans, try to eat breakfast someplace else cause they might not have enough server and cooks for early breakfast. I came for the experience of sleeping under the stars and it did meet my expectation in that aspect. Be mindful of when do you wanna visit because the concept is in the desert expect the dome to be either very hot or very cold. In our case during April, it was a pleasant weather, and the temperature of the dome was just perfect during night time for sleeping. We didn't stay at the dome during the day, but I can feel the heat by 10 AM even with the AC on. 4 stars for the great concept and comfortable bed, functioning room and bathroom equipments.

Yelp
Clear Sky Resort has such a beautiful concept, and we were so excited for our weekend. The domes are unique and cozy with great views, though there were a few small details missing that kept it from feeling fully five-star. The staff seemed nervous when we arrived, and while Erik did his best to guide us, the overall service could use more polish and guidance -- even something as simple as a warm smile from the staff would go a long way. For a $500-a-night price point, the experience isn't quite at five-star level yet. Even though you get to lay underneath the most beautiful stars, there are some minor improvements needed to match the cost. Our dinner in the private dome was just okay as well, but our waitress Jazzy was fantastic -- attentive, warm, and really made the meal enjoyable! We also loved the one-man band at the welcome dome; he really added to the vibe. The biggest improvements would be more smiles, better training, and clear staff identification, like name tags or uniforms, because I honestly couldn't tell who was staff and who were guests. Despite that, we still enjoyed our stay and really hope to see this place reach its full potential. With a few improvements, it could absolutely become a five-star experience!

Yelp
My family really enjoyed staying here and loved the unique experience. The dome was super cool at night, and we could see the stars while relaxing in the evening. The loft was great for the kids and they liked having their own twin bed while also being able to see the stars. Our shower leaked and the sink faucets did too a little. The main dome flooring was cement which I thought a bit odd, but it wasn't horrible. Their main restaurant was closed but they did have mini domes for a private dining experience. That night was super cold so they had a mini heater in the dome. However they weren't able to zip it up due to a fear it would tear the dome. The food was pretty good, but it was freezing during the entire meal! They were also out of a lot of items on their menu. Overall we liked the place and would probably stay there again. Definitely something to try and experience!!

Yelp
Great experience!! Having the astronomer was fantastic. Good dome placement and features.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this hotel because i think it has some real potential but it missed on some areas that drag it down. This is a resort that wants to be 5 stars and they are absolutely charging 5 star prices, The problem is the resort is not yet ready to deliver a 5-star experience. I stayed here for two nights over Thanksgiving. The staff I interacted with did everything they could to make my stay enjoyable absolute kudos to them. Price - as mentioned its a 5-star price, we got an introductory rate and it was still around $500/night. This in itself isn't necessarily bad or wrong if the experience matches the price. Food - The resort has it's own restaurant that is space themed and looks awesome. Unofrtunately the food was only OK and on one of the nights service was glacially slow. On the first night we were the third table to be seated. We ordered drinks and our meals (two steaks, medium rare). The drinks came out with no issue but we waited for over an hour for 2 steaks and they were both over-cooked and under-seasoned. They comped us a second drink for waiting so long but thats a long time for underwhelming steak. Night two was Thanksgiving and they had a holiday special with turkey and fixins. The turkeay was maybe the best i have ever had, really good. Unofrtunately the mashed potatoes and gravy were cold, not like they had been sitting out, actual cold. Really dissapointing. Accomodations - I love the idea of the dome and being able to see the stars all night. it's awesome. However I think this project like many has fallen victim to budget and they cut corners everywhere they could. Our shower leaked water onto the bathroom floor, like a lot. We put towels down to capture it but really thats' not a 5-start experience. Also in the bathroom I found holes in the walls where the contractors made a mistake putting in the shower enclosure. I also found gaps in the door jamb to the bathroom that look like they should have been sealed with silicon but weren't. The room was either too hot, or too cold. They give you instructions on how they think you should work their HVAC system but i don't think it can handle the big swings of desert temperature. The main door jamb into the room had holes where light/air/water could easiy come in, likely the reason it was too when we turned the heat off. Also the clocks in the very fancy bathroom mirrors stayed the same exact time for our entire stay. For the price it wasn't up to my expectation, the idea is great and we loved sitting out watching the stars but I wouldn't pay $500/night for this unless i was assured that they had fixed their issues.

Kimberly C.

Yelp
TL;DR -- This place has so much potential but there were some glaring deficiencies that really ruined our stay. It just feels like someone with a hospitality management degree needs to step in and clean house. At nearly $600/night, it was insanely overpriced, even with a "soft opening" discount. I really feel like I was scammed. CHECK-IN: We arrived an hour before check-in after a long day of driving and hiking at Bryce, hoping our room may already be ready (but not necessarily expecting it to be). When we walked into the main dome, not one of the four staff there acknowledged us and when we did ask for help, we were scolded by Christine (manager? front desk clerk? hired grump?) for attempting to check in before 4pm. (We weren't remotely angry that we couldn't check in early; in fact, we barely were able to say anything before she yelled at us.) Her attitude unfortunately set the tone for the rest of the stay -- I could've forgiven a lot of the other things but she really ruined our evening. When we did finally check in, a much kinder, younger man gave us our room code & dome number and after I asked, let us know where to get dinner and return for stargazing later that evening. That was the extent of the information we received. ROOM: We learned very quickly that the hot water runs out rather quickly in the shower (unfortunately during a shower). This wouldn't have been as big of an issue if we had been warned. There were four different remotes to operate various fans, lights, curtains, etc. and very little instruction. (Not everyone is tech savvy enough to figure such things out, so it would be nice to have more detail.) The bed was quite comfortable, and the views were quite wonderful, though. It was also nice to have a larger mini-fridge but the kitchenette is otherwise pretty limited (microwave & kettle only). STAFF: While everyone (except Christine) was generally pleasant, it did feel like this place was mostly staffed by college kids working a summer job. Maybe it was a first job for a lot of them, but there was a real lack of understanding of how to run...anything let alone a resort. They weren't especially communicative and seemed fairly uninterested in helping guests. The stargazing clearly wasn't going to happen as heavy clouds had rolled in early, but they kept guests waiting until literally the last minute before sending a cancellation text. FOOD/RESTAURANT: The food was actually really good despite a somewhat limited menu. I was a little bummed to see a whole set up for ice cream sundaes only to find out they had no ice cream. And for some reason our coffee was served in to-go cups in the morning (there were regular mugs in our room so we know they existed). Our server for dinner was absolutely wonderful, though. (Molly, I think?) But when we walked in for breakfast the next day a few minutes after they opened, those working looked at us like we were crazy. (Someone even said, "Do we have a cook this morning?") This place was so disappointing. I wish I could recommend it because it was really beautiful, but until they get their staffing issues fixed, it's a big nope.

Tom B.

Yelp
This place was fantastic! The stars were amazing. The pod was everything I wanted it to be. Our gripe: the dinner service was super slow and the dining room was closed. However!! Our server was super polite and gave us a discount as a result of the slow service (without us complaining). The night time view more than made up for the dining. Pro-tip: maybe bring a head lamp if want to do a late night stroll. Also the room gets a bit toasty in the late morning. Would love to visit this place again!

Andrew K.

Yelp
Excellent service and staff from the start. Very welcoming, showed each aspect of our stay to enjoy the most of the experience. We had clear skies and beautiful views from our dome!! We had dinner at the restaurant- food was superb, we chose the bison burgers! Light staff but exceeded our expectations and we definitely will come back for this again!!

Scott S.

Yelp
Very cool experience and unique. Domes are very nice, comfortable beds and the restaurant food was very good. We had the burger and the pasta. It did take a little long to get our food, but it was good. Nice fireplace outside and free smores. The onsite Astronomer and telescopes were a nice touch too. Room appeared clean and we did not use the shower, but it appeared very nice. Overall it was a great experience and I'd recommend. We paid $510 for one night, which was a bit pricey, so I'm not sure it was worth that, but very unique for a one timer. We might come again if they lowered their prices a bit.

Andrew B.

Yelp
That was truly one of the most calming and enjoyable experiences I've ever had. From start to finish, everything was perfect. The employees were incredibly welcoming and attentive, making us feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious, with so many thoughtful details in every dish--it was clear that a lot of care went into crafting the menu. The facilities were top-notch, offering such a clean, comfortable, and relaxing environment that made the experience all the more special. I couldn't have asked for a better time. Thank you again for hosting us and providing such an unforgettable experience. I'm already looking forward to coming back in the future!
