11 Best Philly Cheesesteak Spots in Philadelphia | Condé Nast Traveler

"Tempted though we may be to shrug at any cheesesteak joint that boasts being “gourmet," Cleavers dishes out the real deal. Located just a few blocks north of Rittenhouse Square and surrounded by hip restaurants, the restaurant opened in 2016 with a large menu that extends well beyond the cheesesteak. There are plenty of cheesesteaks places steeped in tradition, but give this relatively new kid on the block a chance." - Shaun Fitzpatrick

Delicious cheesesteak! I got a cheesesteak with fried onions and provolone and added the pickles and banana peppers as toppings. The cheese pull was very nice and brought the steak together. The portion was huge and very filling, almost couldn’t finish it all myself!

**Cleavers Cheesesteaks: A Modern Take on a Philadelphia Classic** Nestled in the heart of Philadelphia, Cleavers offers a delightful culinary experience that pays homage to the iconic cheesesteak. During a midweek lunch visit, I found the atmosphere refreshingly clean and modern, a stark contrast to the bustling streets outside. With only a handful of patrons present, the ambiance was relaxed, allowing us to fully savor our meal. The service was prompt and friendly; after placing our orders at the register, we received our cheesesteaks neatly packaged in a bag. We opted to dine in, and I must say, the addition of roasted peppers in my cheesesteak was a standout. As someone who enjoys a bit of heat, the flavor profile was just right—though I couldn't help but envy my companion’s choice, which was significantly spicier and seemed to pack an even bigger punch. However, I must address the pricing, which I found to be a bit steep. At $15.99 for a cheesesteak sans fries or a drink, and my companion’s at $19.99, our total bill climbed close to $50 after adding beverages. For a casual lunch, that felt a touch extravagant. Despite the price, I appreciate the opportunity to explore new flavors, especially when traveling for photo assignments. Cleavers captures the spirit of Philly with its grit and charm, offering a cheesesteak experience that’s worth trying, even if it stretches the wallet a bit.

Beware: very skimpy, overly priced, and bland steak sandwiches as you can see from the photos from my last two visits. The rolls need to be swapped for something that suits this miniscule amount of protein or a reasonable amount of meat needs to be on each sandwich to match the prices you’re charging. I didn’t even get any toppings or cheese and this cost around $18. And wouldn’t you know extra meat is $7. No one in their right mind is spending $25 on a cheese steak. Angelo’s Pizzeria !!!! highly recommended, cheese steaks are reasonably priced, full of flavor, full of meat, only deterrent is the wait due to its high popularity. Prospective customers save your money and don’t fall victim, and Cleaver’s management do better!

My first time in Philadelphia for more than a decade. I got the effin hot cheesesteak and was one of the best cheesesteaks I ever had. The beef is very high quality and the bread, sauce and cheese were all top notch

Google
This was my first time trying a Cheesesteak and I am sure glad I took the time to get one. Although I have nothing to compare it to, it sure set the bar high for me. Very delicious and very well made. The environment was also very nice. Highly recommend!

Google
From the bread to the meat, everything about this cheesesteak was perfectly well made. My bread did not get soggy. The copper cheese on it was out of this world. The waffle fries were seasoned. Next time, I will definitely ask for a little bit of cheese wiz. It was too much for me. The beer wall looked amazing, though I'm not a beer drinker. You must try this.

This place has very good food. The customer service could be better. Please look at menu before you go on and order. It felt rushed ordering out food.

Google
Had the chicken cutlet sandwich with fresh mozzarella and a balsamic glaze really good size and portion. It was pretty tasty. Also had the fries with bacon and mozzarella drizzled with ranch. The ranch was a little bit overpowering for me but overall pretty good food.

Yelp
Best cheesesteak ever! I tried several cheesesteaks during my Philly trip and I loved Cleavers' cheesesteak so much, I gave them another visit on the last day of the trip. I was on a quest to compare cheesesteaks from multiple businesses to find my favorite. This is the place! Cleavers is located in a very central space near Rittenhouse Square. You can order at the counter or through a touchscreen kiosk. There is plenty of well-lit seating indoors upstairs or you can sit at one of the few outdoor tables if you plan to dine in. I got the cheesesteak (they use ribeye) with white American cheese and fried onions. Simple and oh-so delicious! Love it when all the ingredients meld together into something magnificent. The meat was extra juicy, the cheese and onions were savory, and the seeded roll was soft and fluffy and still held up the ingredients inside. The cheesesteak was, simply put, comforting and hearty. I brought some friends on my second go and everyone loved their food, including the person who strayed off the path and went for a chicken cheesesteak. We shared the waffle-cut sweet potato fries and they were no less than perfect. Cleavers may not be one of the oldest in the game, but they sure are on top of their game.

Yelp
My friend rated this to be his favorite cheesesteak hoagie. My other friend's chicken hoagie was good and my portobello meatless hoagie was just okay. Service was basic city service. Quick. Not so friendly. Order and get out of the way. Order at the counter or the kiosks. Beer on tap using tap card. Upstairs and downstairs seating. 5 star rating goes to the best cheesesteak hoagie that my friend had on this trip. Will I return? Not for me.

Yelp
Solid choice, especially for delivery because, unlike others in the past, it arrived promptly, warm, and held up nicely in the process. My family and I were all pleasantly surprised with their Philly Cheesesteaks. Although I prefer a seedless and thinner roll, it was still tasty and fresh. It could have been filled with a bit more meat, but my Whiz Wit hit the spot. My partner and son also enjoyed theirs with provolone. Is it the best we have had? No, but would I recommend it? Yes, it is definitely worth a try.
google avatar

Lydia P.

Yelp
Solid cheesesteak place in Center City. The bread was a bit dry but overall the cheesesteaks were good. I loved the sweet potato fries- they were so crispy. The buffalo wings were also good- very saucey.
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
In all honesty, the cheesesteak is nothing special. But I'm giving an extra star here for the quick service and big portion. I got the standard cheese whiz cheese steak with onions, nothing added. It's fine, it's not the best cheese steak and not the worst. Plenty of sitting area if you're here with a big group.

Yelp
For a first timer in Philly, choosing a cheesesteak spot is daunting! Strong opinions make it a challenge, but we went with the recommendation of Cleavers. The ordering stands make ordering pretty easy and there are tons of options. I ended up going with the steak, mild provolone, mushrooms, grilled onions, and mayo. I also ordered the sweet potato waffle fries on the side. I enjoyed the cheesesteak but wished I got a little more cheese to balance out. The sandwich was bit of the drier side, so adding extra cheese can't hurt! I also whimped out and didn't get the cheese wiz, but I'm sure that would help too. The sweet potato fries were really good. I think personally I would change my order a bit next time based on what I know now, but all in all I thought this was a solid spot.

Yelp
With a visit to Philly, we had to go to a place with cheesesteak. Our friends who live outside of Philly have their own cheesesteak ratings, and this place is 4th on their list. I have to say the cheesesteak here is quite good with the soft bread and tender meat. The hoagie bread was soft on the inside and thick on the outside to hold all that meat. We got our cheesesteak with peppers and onions and it was overall delicious! Their waffles fries were a hit with the kids. Their buffalo spicy wings were a hit with me. It was crispy on the outside and meaty. They definitely had a good kick to them.

Yelp
So if you go to Philly, then obviously you have to get a Philly cheesesteak. I did some research and ended up at cleavers based on the reviews and proximity to my hotel. This is the type of place where you order at the counter and they call out your number over an intercom system when it's ready. The sandwich was huge- I got the ribeye with cheese whiz, fried onions, green peppers, and mushrooms for around $22.00. The sandwich was large nice and warm when I sat down to eat it. The flavor was good- but I wish the bread had a crunch to it. The restaurant also offers two floors, pour your own beer stations, and TVs.

Yelp
My god this was the best cheesesteak I've ever had in my whole life! Not only that but the service was incredibly friendly. Our favorite Philly cheesesteak order, if you order it like this you won't be disappointed: MYO RIBEYE -ROLL SEEDED-CHEESE WHIZ HOT BANANA PEPPERS CHERRY PEPPER RELISH GREEN PEPPERS We also ordered the effin hot which was really awesome but not as good as the original Philly cheesesteak with the toppings we mentioned above. Also the title was a little deceiving, it wasn't really spicy . The regular cheesesteak was dripping with cheese and sauce, had a nice kick , plenty of toppings, delicious meat that's making me drool as I write this review too.

Yelp
Great cheesesteak spot that is close to septa, has plenty of seating, and accepts credit card! FYI it's cheaper if you order in person than if you order online or via delivery service. I got the cheesesteak hoagie and added salt, peppers mayo, long hot peppers, sautéed onions and sautéed green peppers. The hoagie was loaded with meat and it tasted really flavorful and fresh. I would definitely order this again and come back!!
google avatar

Akshita P.

Yelp
Such great chicken cheesesteaks! The effing hot is delicious, super flavorful and juicy. The portions are huge as well!

Yelp
One of THE BEST spots in Philly for a cheesesteak! Ordering is very easy with kiosks available. Lots of seating indoors for those who want a sit-down option. The food itself is amazing. The ribeye is tender with hefty servings and the garlic parm waffle fries were crispy and well seasoned. Solid amount of food for the price point - highly recommend!

Yelp
The cheez whiz IS NOT traditional. They added suger to it! How can you change whiz?!!! The seeded bread was good as was the quality of meat compared to Pat's. Waffle fries were good, but again the whiz RUINED it. Very disappointed. If you go, don't touch the whiz. My friend who is a local pointed out the number of high reviews her are NOT from locals but tourists.
google avatar

Joseph G.

Yelp
Cleavers! What a great find. Definitely should be on your list for a good Philly cheesesteak! Drop the tourist traps and forget what you think you know. This place didn't disappoint. Easy ordering, friendly service, and good quality meat. This two story restaurant has mostly seating upstairs, and is decently spacious. This bar atmosphere is clean, and friendly for family outings and plenty of fun menu items. I definitely recommend!

Yelp
We were in Philly this last weekend for my husband's birthday. The cheesesteak was huge and really good. We did a traditional sandwich with whiz and added mushrooms. The onion rings were also very good. We ordered the Nashville hot wings, but I wasn't a fan. They tasted like it had the seasoning in the breading, but the sauce was an odd mix off bbq and tomato sauce. We came again before leaving town and ordered the chicken cheesesteak. Stick to the original beef. It won't disappoint.

Yelp
The first thing I noticed about this restaurant was how packed it was, but despite the crowd, the line moved quickly. They had their system down to a science when it came to taking orders. There's outdoor seating available, as well as a small seating area upstairs. While there aren't many tables upstairs, it's enough for a few groups, and the atmosphere was surprisingly quiet and cozy, even with the limited space. The staff was friendly and helpful, offering recommendations when I asked. I ordered the classic cheesesteak, loaded fries, and a drink, but I noticed they also had waffle fries on the menu. They let me try them, and honestly, I wish I had ordered them too--they were perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. I opted to dine in since most people were ordering their food to go, and I figured I'd have no trouble finding a spot. I was right. The food itself was great and made me want to come back to try even more dishes. The cheesesteak was piled high with meat and had a good amount of cheese sauce on a toasted bun. It could've used a touch more seasoning, but I understand the cook might have been cautious about going too heavy-handed. The cheese-loaded fries were tasty as well, but next time, I'll definitely go for the waffle fries. Overall, the experience wasn't perfect, but it came very close. If you're in the area, I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try--especially if you're craving a good cheesesteak!

Yelp
I was visiting Philadelphia for the first time and Cleavers was suggested as having tasty food. I chose it because it was a short walk from my hotel and didn't want to go far. The staff wasn't the friendliest. Even though there was no one behind me, he seemed super bothered when I asked questions about the menu. (I took the time to read over the menu and narrow things down before I went up to order, but still had a question about the menu.) I explained that it was my first time, but that only got me a hurried and basic response. I can appreciate being annoyed at novice customers asking questions, but it is a big part of the job. The restaurant had seating off to the side and some tables outside. I really enjoyed the cheesesteak and would definitely try them again. They had a lot of things to choose from and while a bit expensive, the portion size was good.

Yelp
We are in town for the Philly Marathon and so are thousands of people. Everyone has the same idea to eat Philly Cheesesteak after the run LOL. The restaurant was extremely crowded and busy, and the workers there didn't really have time to clean the tables so it was a bit messy, but understandable. Sandwiches were delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved this Philly cheesesteak! Got recommended to this place by the receptionist at my hotel, and boy am I glad she recommended. This is everything I was looking for in a Philly cheesesteak. So much cheese! Nice and gooey how I like it with bell peppers and onions. Very quick turnaround and easy ordering. I went about 30 mins before closing so it wasn't crowded. I event sparked up a nice conversation with another visitor from Brazil. The tv wasn't on but they had huge televisions screens with nice tunes playing in the background and clean place settings. Loved the dining experience. I don't know who makes the root beer but it was worth grabbing. It was so good I forgot to capture a picture of the food! This place, I definitely recommend!

Yelp
My husband and I are still talking about this sandwich and we had it 4 months ago! Certainly the best Philly cheesesteak we've ever had. The meat quality was great and the roll was perfect. We shared the large one and it was more than enough food! Can't wait to go back again and try the beer side too!

Yelp
Date of visit: 7/31/24 dinner It's quite hard to give a good review when you have to munch on a dry stale bread. So my family ordered 3 sandwiches: 2 Philly cheese steak and 1 chicken cheese steak hoagie (with tomato, lettuce & mayo) The chicken one is less bland compared to the steak one, but both are not tasty & flavorful at all. The bread used for the chicken one was so hard & stale and wasn't toasted at all! The bread on the beef one was softer but also not toasted. The waffle fries, on the contrary, were really really good! Overall was not impressed. Won't go back
google avatar

Sophie E.

Yelp
My first really Philly cheesesteak and it was amazing!!! As someone who normally doesn't eat steak or order cheese whiz, I chose to try both and was not disappointed! The siracha sauce served with the egg rolls was perfectly spicy. Quick food and friendly staff.
google avatar

Brad H.

Yelp
Delicious cheesesteak! Not quite on the level of JRP, Dalessabdro's, or Woodrow's, but still one of the better cheesesteaks you will have in the city, and definitely above Pats/Genos. The ordering process is via touch screen, which some people might find to be a plus, given that ordering at some of the spots can be a little intimidating if you don't know what you are doing. There is a lot of customization that can be done which is also nice. I went with the classic whiz with. The seeded roll was so fresh and held everything together nicely. The steak, cheese, and onions itself had the incredible flavor you look for in a good Philly cheesesteak. It could have used some more cheese. Other than that it was perfect though.

Yelp
If a local hadn't stopped us and told us we walked by this place because she overheard us talking about it, I'm not sure we would have found it. From the outside it seems like a little hole in the wall, and walking in feels the same. You walk in to two registers, stairs, and a long line, We grabbed 4 cheesesteaks, fries, and some beers and found a spot in the more restaurant like dining area upstairs. If nothing up there is open, it's definitely a hard place to dine in. When our number was called and we picked up the food we were shocked. The size of these sandwiches is INSANE and for a very reasonable price. We all could have shared two sandwiches for sure do plan for that when ordering. We all got different variations for our different flavor profiles including my kiddo who just got a steak plain and loved eating the steak from the middle on its own. I was insanely impressed that my sandwich was deliciously warm but absolutely none of the veggies wilted or lost their crispness. The fries were perfectly seasoned and we all left so happy. It might be a hole in the wall but the food is top notch. Wow.

Yelp
Came to Philly for WWE WrestleMania 40 weekend. I went to Cleavers to get cheesesteak. I mean how can you come to Philly and not get one? There were so many options. I ordered the "Cheesesteak Hoagie" which came with ribeye steak, white American cheese, romaine lettuce, plum tomatoes, onion and mayo. The portion was enormous I ended up taking the second half with me. SO GOOD!
google avatar

Melissa F.

Yelp
Can't go to Philadelphia and not get a cheesesteak! Bread was the highlight for me, it was so fresh. Space is huge & they have lots of beer on taps.
google avatar

Janay M.

Yelp
I came here after a recommendation from locals. It was OKAY. I added provolone, onions, peppers, and ketchup. The cheese left a weird aftertaste. I gutted and toasted the bread. I wish the meat had more flavor. It was a little bland for my taste. The service was quick but the workers were pretty flat which I think is because of how busy they were. They have beer and cider on self-pour tap machines which is cool. They have two dining areas, downstairs and upstairs. They even had tables and chairs outside. They have a TV that you can watch which eating. I spent 30 dollars on a sandwich and a beer

Yelp
So last Sunday 2/16, looking for a big time snack while at work so I decided to call this place and ordered a cheesesteak with fries, which one of my nurses had it before and thought it was good so i have to try it. Called around 4:30pm, my mistake was i thought this place was about 2 blocks away from my workplace for pickup, realized that they are located in the city so I wont be able to pick this food until 7. Drove there after work, mentioned the order to the guy at the counter and what a genuine person who offered me a new one! He didn't hesitated to make me one at no charge. Great delivery of customer service, friendly environment and fast. Definitely will come back and recommend to my friends. So hungry i ate it while i was driving home.
google avatar

Stephanie A.

Yelp
I'll say that the service here is quick! You can order on a self-kiosk or go to the register. The kiosk allows you to make adjustments but it doesn't include prices if you add things, which is inconvenient. You order food and wait upstairs in their dining room or outside. There is a lot of seating upstairs which is nice. As for the food, it wasn't great at all. I wouldn't recommend this as the place to go to if you're trying a philly cheesesteak for the first time. I got a philly cheesesteak with mushrooms (not pictured) and the chicken Cesar which was okay. The bread was really dry and tough. Overall, I wouldn't come back.
google avatar

Lana S.

Yelp
My family and I decided to stop here for a late lunch. When you walk in there are screens you can order from. I got the Italian steak + sweet potato waffle fries and a soda. My husband got the classic cheese steak that comes with steak, cheese whiz and onion. He also got an order of the truffle fries and a soda. With two meals the orders came out to $50 total which it's wild it's that expensive for two meals! We walked upstairs to the seating area and sat down. Our order was called so I went and got everything. I did like how the upstairs dining area had utensils, napkins and ketchup so you didn't have to go downstairs again to get anything. My Italian sandwich was okay! They give you lots of meat, spinach and peppers. The sharp provolone was sharp for sure. Wasn't the type of cheese I usually go for. The sweet potato fries were over fried which made them hard. Later when I warm up leftovers they were inedible. My husbands cheesesteak had better flavors but it was okay overall. The rolls for their sandwiches I thought were bland and not fresh. There was also too much bread. His truffle fries were decent. Overall a little disappointed and it was expensive for mediocre food. Atleast it came out pretty fast.

Yelp
Great food, good atmosphere and service. I had a traditional cheesesteak sandwich with onions and provolone. It was delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
The best Philly cheesesteaks with customizations and so many options to choose from! Highly recommend the Effin Hot with pickles!
google avatar

Jaimie C.

Yelp
We love this place. Its right in the heart of Center City PA. The cheesesteaks are more upscale than you're probably used to. I highly recommend the cheesesteak fries! You wont be disappointed!
google avatar

Ryan Z.

Yelp
Very good Philly cheese steak, quick service, and a nice self serve beer tap room attached. It may not be the best Philly cheesesteak in Philly, but it's the best within walking distance of this area. I'll definitely be back. Be sure to order it with red peppers too!
google avatar

Carmen G.

Yelp
Stop in for a quick Sandwich and it didn't disappoint. Service was very friendly and accommodating and ambiance was great for the food ..
google avatar

Anthony H.

Yelp
We decided to try a spot for philly cheesesteaks and we were very satisfied! We ordered a spicy and classic cheesesteak and a side of fries and everything came out amazing. The fries were like a mix of checkers seasoning on chick-fil-a waffle fries and way better! The cheesesteak was very delicious and filling. It's a pretty cool spot with a selection of beers to try, Philly sports memories on the wall and plenty of seating. We got our food pretty quick as well, and the service was really good. Overall we had an awesome experience at Cleavers!
google avatar

Logan B.

Yelp
The only reason why I'm giving this place two stars instead of one is because it's convenient. It's located right downtown within walking distance for many hotels and so it's an easy place to get to to get food. That being said, I went there for a cheesesteak because it was supposed to be good, but it was not. The meat tasted unseasoned and bland. And it was very expensive. If you're in Philly, and looking for a traditional cheesesteak, go somewhere else.
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
A good cheesesteak is woven into the fabric of Philly and Cleavers has made its name as an essential part of that. No muss no fuss (well, some muss). They do it all -- provolone, whiz, chicken steak -- and it'll stand with the big boys without you having to leave center city. Bonus points for local beer on tap in the taproom. My go to? -- cheesesteak hoagie with provolone.
google avatar

Jerry K.

Yelp
Could be the best cheesesteak . That's a high acclaim but Cleaver's earns it. Before the flaming starts, a large number of people have pointed that Jim's is the best classic cheesesteak, better than the tourist traps of Pat and Genos. Cleavers has so many good things going for it that it can easily dethrone other king of whiz wits. First, it's huge. Nearly double the size for the same price of other locations, the cheese steak is pouring out. It's a hefty satisfying sandwich. Second the is bread perfect, non soggy and crispy giving the both the right contrast to the juicy meat with melty cheese and ensuring your sandwich doesn't fold over for not being strong enough. My favorite of their offerings is the Effin Hot Steak. It's spicy! We thought how hot could it be, and it's got bite. A definite fresh welcomed option. The service is fast, friendly and this location has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I'll be returning every chance I get.

Yelp
Stopped here for a quick lunch. I don't know, maybe it is Philly thing. Staff are not friendly or helpful. This seems to be the attitude of most people here. For here is was a little empty but within a few minutes it was standing room only. Have to say the food is great! I got the cheesesteak on a seeded hoagie bun! A Philly comes with grilled mushrooms, peppers, and onions. Don't pass that up. They have waffle fries, cooked just right. Not burnt but crunchy. There is music playing that is interrupted by the occasional blast from the girl at the counter calling a number, "423"! Ask for ranch. You can sit upstairs or on the main floor take your choice. I enjoyed the food and the experience of hearing all the conversations.

Yelp
Cleavers threw out my sandwich order, and they had no processes in place to fix the situation. We walked in around 1:15 p.m. on the Sunday after Thanksgiving and ordered two chicken cutlet sandwiches. One came out very quickly, and the other one was delayed. During that time, another girl picked up her order, and then because the upstairs was so full (because the manager told everyone to go wait upstairs for their order), it took her a while to find a seat and discover she had the wrong sandwich. She then came back downstairs and told the staff that she had the wrong sandwich, and the staff literally just threw the sandwich away. That sandwich was my sandwich. I went up to the staff and let them know that I was pretty sure that the sandwich they had just thrown away was my sandwich. A staff member went into the trashcan and visually confirmed it was my sandwich. They said they were unable to make a new sandwich or issue a refund for a sandwich that I clearly had not received, because their manager had stepped out to go shopping. During his shift. They also did not have a way to contact him to let him know that there was an issue, apparently. So we had to wait for him to come back, and then wait for the order to be remade. By the time we left with our takeout sandwiches, we had spent over 40 minutes at Cleavers. It is unacceptable that after almost a decade of being open, Cleavers has no staff training process in place for fixing errors. I also received no apology from the manager, and only an insincere apology ("apologies", said with sarcasm) from the staff, for something that was clearly their mistake. Cleavers is littered with signs stating that they won't issue refunds or remake orders if it was the customer's error, but they apparently never bothered to figure out what to do when they make a mistake. A place that treats its customers so poorly is not a place that I want to patronize.

Yelp
Visiting Philly. Wanted a cheesesteak. Cleavers met the bill. Lots of choices, good hot pepper relish and ample choices for those not wanting a cheesesteak. Great portion size, easy seating.
google avatar

Dan B.

Yelp
It's been years since I was there and I STILL think about this sandwich!!! I spent a month in Philly for work and I decided I was going to try every place my customers and friends recommended. Some of the places they recommended were okay and others made me wonder how a sandwich could possibly be named after this city. I was randomly walking past Cleavers and stopped in to find the best Philly that anybody I know has ever had...

Yelp
Some of the best cheesesteaks in Philly -- there's a ton of options and toppings to customize your sandwich. I personally stick with the 'Effin Hot' cheesesteaks. Be careful of how much cheese you ask for -- they LOAD it up. I got 'normal' cheese whiz and it was way too much for me. The atmosphere is OK -- it's a nice, clean place to eat but nothing special. It lacks that Philly charm and feels somewhat corporate in the dining rooms.

Yelp
So far the best cheesesteaks I had in Philly. This is on par with some of the best ones I had in California. The funny thing is I came from California to Philly just to try the cheesesteaks and I've come to the sad realization that we make them just as good and better there. This place actually serves quality ingredients. I've been to about 5 places and this is the best by far

Yelp
Perfectly suitable, late-night place to take a first-timer if you're limited to Center City! My guest has a mobility aid and arrived late in the evening but she said the first thing she wanted to try was a cheesesteak. We were easily able to enter and order at the kiosk and waited for our order to be called. I am not a cheesesteak conissuar and will never strive to claim such title, haha, but from my amatuer perspective: we received a great and satisfying sandwich. The default size is also MASSIVE. It was stuffed to the max with finely shaved meat that has good chew WITHOUT being too chewy. We opted to wait outside on the nice night and listened for our order. The staff were bustling inside the service area to fulfil orders and there were lots of patrons and delivery staff hurring around to claim orders. It was a little loud, but not unlike all the other surrounding shops.

Yelp
Great cheesesteak that hits the craving. Nicely shaved meat with a variety of toppings. Came here to avoid the hyped up geno and oat rivalry. Soft bread, light in the cheese, making the meat the star. The place was not packed, so it was an easy order, wait and space to enjoy. The customer service could use some work. With the only one ordering and no one behind me, it was an order quickly and get out of the way! Not a nice feeling as you are trying to maximize your order.

Yelp
Ordered DoorDash after a long day sightseeing-- couldn't manage another trip out! So glad I chose this spot. Excellent quality cheesesteak and very large portions. My husband and I split the "build your own" and a nice quality Cesar salad. Threw in the garlic Parmesan waffle fries for a little added treat. Cleavers may not get the recognition or acclaim of Angelo's but the convenience made up for the fame.

Yelp
Cheese steak time. They're decent. Mildly expensive at around $20 for a full sandwich. They offer lots of cheese options such as mild/sharp provolone, American, mozzarella, wiz etc. worth trying. Their loaded fries were really good
