Clew Bay Hotel is a family owned property in the center of Westport. The rooms are of varying sizes, we stayed in 108, which is lovely king room overlooking the river. It was very quiet. The hotel has been through major renovations over the past years. The layout is a bit quirky as is the case with many of the older hotels, but honestly, that makes it far more interesting than staying in a corporate chain hotel, where every room is the same as the next and there is not much character to the place. The hotel is within easy walking distance of restaurants, pubs, and shops, which is a huge plus as Westport is a popular destination and becomes very busy especially during the summer season.
The original Clew Bay Hotel opened in 1959, the current rendition bears no similarities to the original other than the warm hospitality. However, I would avoid rooms overlooking James Street. The room rate is very reasonable and includes a full breakfast served in the dining room overlooking the river. They also offer free wifi, parking is 3 Euro per day in the lot behind the hotel however one evening we were lucky to get a space at 6 pm, so assume there are other car parks around town. You can purchase the parking pass at reception.
