Cliff Walk – South End

It's gorgeous. It is not handicap accessible on the southern end. When it says be careful beyond this point it's not a joke. If you have runaway toddlers this is the time not to put your nose up at a leash backpack. There are several cliff faces that you could walk right off of. For the most part it is not dramatic or very difficult if you are of sound body, there are just a few spots where you need to pay attention. Having said that go for it! It's worth it. Just wear appropriate footwear on the southern end. The northern end has paved paths and much easier parking.

We got there pretty early and most of the parking was gone but we found parking over near the university. We found it to be a super easy walk. Wouldn’t call it hiking. There’s some walking over rocks but it’s super easy. The views are beautiful. Some of the mansions are breathtaking. It’s busy so if you have reactive dogs there are some tightish sections where you might have to interact with other people’s dogs. We saw a lot of birds including an Osprey with a fish in its claws. Make sure to take plenty of water as it heats up quickly.

Truly one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. I genuinely felt moved to tears at how breathtaking it was, and it only got better as we went. It started out a bit crowded, but during the second half, we were almost completely alone. The final mile was more challenging than expected, but not overly strenuous as long as you’re sure-footed and wearing good shoes. We began around 3:30–4:00 PM and were a little nervous about losing daylight, but we emerged into a very upscale neighborhood just as the sun dipped below the horizon. So grateful for such a magical experience.

Well this was our first time in Newport and a very interesting trail. We decided to start from the south end of the trail.. Parking is very challenging to find a spot at this end of the trail. All of the streets are no parking any time of day. We were able to find a spot at the Marble Mansion for visitors. The hike from the south end to the exit near #9 was approximately 75 minutes. The terrain went from easy ( nice paved walkway) to very rocky and you needed to be very cautious. There were a few tunnels, that were amazing. What a beautiful hike. The ocean views and the summer cottages were amazing. I would definitely recommend this hike to others. Enjoy the views!

Newport's Cliff Walk is stunning ocean scenery with historic mansions, blending the beauty of nature with Gilded Age extravagance. Rugged shores and sheer cliffs are walked on by the trail in a peaceful walk or sightseeing tour. A must-see treasure along Rhode Island's coastline.

Beautiful Hike and amazing beach next to it. Tons of freedom to go wherever you want, whether it is sticking to the trail or going along the cliff edge. Not very busy and amazing views. I would recommend parking a bit further away and walking to the entrance.

Beautiful walk and views along the cliffs. Wear sturdy shoes. The trail is a combination of walking on a flat path and lots of rock scrambling. Well marked trail. We saw lots of people struggling while wearing flip flops. No parking at the start! We parked at the Marble House park lot for free and walked down the sidewalk 15 min to get to the start of the trail.

Absolutely beautiful. The views of the ocean and the mansions are unreal. It’s a nice mix of paved path and a little rocky in spots, but totally worth it. Perfect way to spend a few hours in Newport.
