Great views of the town from this place. There are gantries and stairs to climb up and explore. Clifford's Tower is the central remaining structure of the medieval York Castle in York, England, a landmark with a history spanning nearly a thousand years. Built by William the Conqueror, the tower has evolved from a royal residence to a treasury, mint, and prison, and is known for housing the 1190 massacre of the Jewish population of York in a predecessor building. Today, it is a protected monument offering visitors panoramic views of York and an immersive experience into its complex and often tragic past.

Really worth a visit, especially on a nice day with ... the viewing terrace at the top. One star taken only as I thought it would be great to be able to have some kids activities and perhaps a little shop too. Overall the views were worth the steps up. I really enjoyed it!

Up a steep set of wooden steps but worth the effort. Though you will have further steps to climb, some quite narrow , in order to access the roof and enjoy the fresh air and the panoramic views of York. Good informative boards. If a member of English Heritage it's a bargain.. at £11 for an adult it is not.

A nice, quick visit to The Clifford's Tower. The views from the top are absolutely stunning, giving you a great look over the city and the surrounding area. The tower itself is packed with history. The climb up can be a little steep, but once you’re at the top, it’s totally worth it + there are resting places. If you buy tickets online at least one day before you are visiting, you'll get a discount (around 15%).

Beautiful and well kept historic building, a very important piece of York’s history and culture, with a very interesting story attached. This is a must see tourist spot for an insight into Yorks past. It offers a gorgeous view from the top of a very steep hill with lots of stairs to the top, however no lift or disabled access, one can only imagine how fun it would be to sled down it in the winter- from the top you can see over the museum and surrounding areas, I believe it to be very beautiful for a sunset…

It is also a landmark tourist attraction that you cannot miss when you come to York. The fee here is not high, but the tour time is relatively short, about half an hour to nine minutes, and you can visit all the places. The most worthwhile thing about the whole attraction is to go to the top floor of the tower to see the scenery of York town in 360 degrees. In different directions, they will provide signs to remind you of other landmarks you can see. On sunny days, you can come here and sit on the bench to enjoy the sun and appreciate the beautiful scenery of York.

We're members of English heritage so it didn't cost anything for entry and I must say I'm glad as there's not a lot to see. It was lovely to have a look around cliffords tower and there are things to look at like it's history and the view from the top but not much more. It definitely won't take long and it's quite a pull walking up the very steep steps (55 I think) so you do need to be fit. Give it a look round you may learn something.

If you buy tickets online at least one day before you are visiting, you'll get a discount (around 15%). The Clifford's Tower is an interesting place with a rich history. However, there is not that much to see inside, so you won't spend that much time here. The view of York on top of the keep is very good. So if the weather is good you can extend your visit by just admiring the views.
