Cliff's Taphouse

I'm rating takeout, but it was awesome! After long day of travel we ordered some burgers - including a BBQ one in a gluten free version. Not only was it delicious (the sauce is awesome, the meat is solid, it's just great), but they also absolutely made my evening. When submitting the order online I asked for no crispy onions, since usually that's not GF. They still packed them, but on a side, and attached a note saying those are safe ❤️ Thank you so much for thinking about that, it's awesome that someone thought this might be the reason - and since it was, I added them back to that wonderful sandwich.

We went to Cliff’s for lunch today, and it was delicious! We got the bruschetta, halibut special, salmon sandwich, sweet potato fries, and more! Our server, Rebecca, was awesome. The owner was working, too, and he was so welcoming! It was a great place with yummy food, and very timely, too. I only got a picture of the bruschetta because we were too hungry when our food came out, ha!

We were in town for Chappell Roan and had such a wonderful dinner here! Zoe was our server and she was so nice and fun. Our food was great. Drinks were delish. I’m vegan and their vegan Caesar was great - add the tofu. Expensive but worth it! Gyoza was a great app, too !

We had a great experience. We stopped in on a Sunday for a brunch with moms and daughters. Really wish we had taken pictures of food. Portion size was perfect, drinks were fabulous, food was delicious and customer service outstanding. We will be returning soon. I'm still thinking about my salmon BLT with sweet potato fries...and the mac and cheese!

A KC gem! Friendly service, great food, amazing cocktails, and the best carrot cake I’ve ever tasted! The live guitar music made the whole experience feel so special. Perfect spot for families or a night out! Will 100% be back.

Celiac safe gluten-free menu, knowledgeable staff. Lots of great gluten-free items to choose from, and a designated fryer. Some real variety on the menu, including the happy hour menu. And veggie potstickers! They also have a dog friendly patio and they were great with our dog, Sassy. Kaely was an excellent server.

I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side caesar salad via DoorDash. It was pretty good, I would eat it or something else from there again. The chicken was lightly breaded for a slight crunch. The buffalo sauce was different, fairly mild in terms of hotness. There was also a pickle spear hidden in there!

Excellent service from Chandler at the bar. The happy hour menu offers great variety, and everything I tried exceeded expectations. The wings were outstanding (highly recommended) while the cauliflower bites and bruschetta were also delicious. The atmosphere was lively and inviting, making for an enjoyable experience. Thank you, Chandler, for providing such a great evening.

I'd been hearing awesome things about Cliff's for a while, so I finally decided to stop in and see what the hype was about -- and it definitely lived up to it. I went for brunch on a Saturday, and everything was great. Our waitress was super friendly, the food came out fast, and it was absolutely delicious. Cliff's is definitely getting added to my list of favorite brunch spots in KC.

We went in for a Restaurant Week lunch and were not disappointed! The poached pear salad was a fantastic and light starter. I had some of the creamiest macaroni and cheese I have ever had, topped with lobster that was so decadent and rich. It became two meals, and was even fantastic reheated. Our waitress was adorable.

Friendly staff, great food, chill vibes. It's the kinda place, though, where you might find a favorite on the menu, then hesitate to order anything else when you go back. My go-to is the Shrimp-Lemon Pasta, but thankfully I ventured beyond that one delicious dish to find that I also love the Beat and Goat Cheese Pasta and Citrus Shrimp Salad. Of course, standards like macaroni and cheese or burger are great as well. As a Midtown resident, it kinda feels like the neighborhood establishment, but I know people across the metro enjoy it.

First time to try Cliff's after hearing great reviews! Inside is clean and comfortable-This is a family owned business and everyone was so friendly. The menu included soups and salads, appetizers, sandwiches, flatbreads, pasta, entrées, and dessert. They have a full bar. I ordered the wild mushroom flatbread, my daughter had the sausage and mushroom flatbread. The wild mushroom was honestly one of the most delicious things I have eaten in a long time! If you love garlic, pesto and mushrooms, this is absolutely to die for! I would definitely recommend and come again! It would be hard for me to order something else since this was so good but I'm willing to bet everything here is delicious. Our server was delightful. It was a great experience!

Went for the first time at the reco of friends and I'm so glad we went, we will be back! The sweet potato fries are the best I've ever had. We literally ordered two orders for the four of us because we are the first one so quickly. The table had a variety of items from salmon to the pasta of the day and it was all so good. If yours looking for an upscale bar grill type of environment, this is it!

Valentines Day 2025 I procrastinated, do not judge, and decided to search for last minute reservations for Valentine's Day for me and my date. Cliff's was one of the reservations I could find from a third party, I believe it was Open Table. We booked a 7:45 reservation as our second stop for a three stop Valentine's evening extravaganza. The first course was casual and matched the Taphouse part of the name. We went with a larger beer to share, a Martin City Hardway IPA, which always hits the spot and paired that with a bar food menu classic- waffle fries topped with cheese sauce and topped with bacon and green onions. Now, was this the most creative appetizer we could have chosen? No, not at all but, it sure was yummy and went perfectly with a tall cold beer. For our second course we split the chicken and mushroom risotto entree. The chicken was roasted well, still juicy and moist and seasoned just right however, the mushroom risotto was a different story. I love a creamy umami risotto but, this one was overly salted. It still was tasty but, since the chicken wasn't underseasoned the entire dish leaned towards too salty. With a few tweaks this could be a solid chicken dish but, I would have rather chosen something else on the menu. Even though it was crowded and lively, of course a given since it was a holiday, the food came out quickly so, we weren't ever hungry. The service wasn't frantic or rushed and I appreciated that since the restaurant was definitely a-buzz.

Great casual hangout in Union Hill! One huge pro -- they have a parking lot next to their building! The same cannot be said for other restaurants and bars in the area, so this makes Cliff's Taphouse super convenient. Of course there is also street parking and a lot across the street as well. Cliff's Taphouse has a solid American food menu with sandwiches and salads and flatbreads. They also have a great selection of local beers. My go-to food order is the Salmon BLT. Service is always great! Everyone is super nice and helpful. The space inside is decently sized, and they also have a pretty big patio off to the side as well.

We are always looking for dog friendly patios that are covered and we found it at cliffs! My friends all recommended that I had to get the steak so I did and I was not disappointed. It was cooked perfectly! We also ordered a burger and pretzel bites and drinks. The pretzel bites have that bubbly crispiness to them which I don't find very often anymore. So yes if you have a chance: ORDER it!! We were both very pleased with it. Cocktail was great. And service was outstanding. The staff loves dogs here which made me so happy. We got excellent service and so did my fur baby!

I recently went to Cliff's Taphouse for happy hour with a friend and we sat outside on the patio. The patio was super cute with a nice amount of seating. We had a friendly and attentive server. I ordered the whiskey lemonade and sausage and mushroom flatbread and my friend ordered the hummus and white sangria. Everything tasted great and was reasonably priced. I also saw they have a reverse happy hour.

Cliffs was great! 1st time there and ordered chicken club and asian salad w chicken. Split w my wife. Service was great and food was great. Will come back

Cliff's Taphouse is such a great spot for a casual night out with awesome food and drinks! The interior is relaxing, with plenty of TVs to catch the game and a long bar that offers lots of seating. There's also a nice patio and a parking lot, which makes it really convenient. The menu has something for everyone, and their rotating specials are a fun addition. Both Brent and I ordered from the specials: he had the Head 'Ancho Burger, which was way better than we expected--juicy and packed with flavor! The waffle fries on the side were also a hit. I had the Garden Harvest flatbread, which was light and tasty, but I'm already eyeing the lemon shrimp pasta for next time. I also tried the blackberry bourbon smash, and it was amazing! Made with fresh blackberries, it was refreshing and just the right amount of sweet. Our server was friendly and made us feel right at home. I can't wait to come back and try the carrot cake I spotted on the dessert menu! Great food, relaxing vibe, and a friendly staff--Cliff's Taphouse definitely has a winning formula!

Stopped in for a light lunch, and this place was pretty cool. Nice and open, with fast and friendly service. The Pear and Brie Flatbread was pretty good, but something like arugula added to it would have really helped. The Buffalo Cauliflower Bites were delicious, however, crisp and spicy which is a rare find- most places it comes out soft. The Mac and Cheese and Jalapeno Corn Chowder were disappointing. The Mac and Cheese wasn't saucy, it was sort of just noodles with melted Shredded cheese. The Jalapeno Corn Chowder was also pretty bland, and didn't have much jalapeno or spice to it. All-in-all, it was a decent place to grab a bite, but next time I'll have to give the main dishes a shot.

If you want the freshest food, perfectly cooked meats, and friendly service without breaking the bank, Cliff's Taphouse is where you have to go! Every time we come here it's the best meal we've had in a while! The chefs are super creative and the best part is there are lots of allergen friendly meals (gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan)! Delicious!!!!

My go-to spot for the salmon BLT, it's always fresh and flavorful. The other food I've tried has been solid too, with great portions and consistent quality.

Took my dog to the patio. It's covered with fans and dog bowls. Perfect for summer! Service is amazing. The brought out some bacon for our dog. The pretzels are crispy and delicious. You should not pass up the Mac and cheese either! The burger was good and the beef tenderloin was amazing. It's a relaxed environment with private parking lot on the side. Definitely coming back!

If you are looking for tasty food, good drinks, and a relaxing patio in Kansas City?? Cliff's Taphouse off Gillham road. We happened to go during happy hour and ordered an appetizer off of the happy hour menu. We started with the Bruschetta for $7, which was stacked with fresh ingredients. I ordered the MASSIVE buffalo chicken wings off of the happy hour menu for $11. I also ordered a side of creamy mac & cheese. My friends ordered the large Steak & Gorgonzola Salad. During happy hour, there are select $5 cocktails that you can pick between if interested. The service was great and attentive as well. I will definitely be back for happy hour and brunch asap! Highly recommend Cliff's Taphouse in Kansas City if you are looking for a patio and great happy hour deals.

I enjoyed my lunch at Cliff's Taphouse. It is a casual restaurant with friendly service and tasty food and drinks. I was happy with my Lavender Lemonade cocktail made with Kansas City Rally gin, lavender syrup, mint, lime, and lemonade. It was refreshing, not overly sweet, and had a kick from the gin. I ordered the small-sized Shrimp & Grits. It was flavorful with three grilled blackened shrimp, cheddar jalapeno grits, brown butter creole sauce, tomato, onion, and green onion. I thought the plate, at $13.00, could have been larger with additional shrimp and grits. I tried a piece of the Pear & Brie flatbread. This delicious vegetarian dish has brie cheese, ripe pear, and caramelized onion. It was both savory and sweet. Overall, it is an excellent choice for classic American dishes and an extensive wine, beer, and cocktail menu.

Brunch was awesome before the chiefs game. And Addy at the bar was fantastic. Great service and accommodations.

Had a great breakfast here with friends on the weekend! Convenient parking lot for the business as well as some street parking, but I'm not great at parallel parking, so I didn't have to worry about that! Corner lot with nice huge windows along the street, you could watch people passing by while eating your meal. There was a santa on bikes event going by while we were eating so that was entertaining. Very spacious and airy room with nice wood floors and tables and wall sconce lighting at the tables. Our waitress was very nice and patient with us as we had never eaten here before. The chicken and waffles was amazing, very delicious. Great hot honey flavor. I tried some of the gravy from the biscuits and gravy and that was very good too. A great option for breakfast, would definitely come back! It started getting very busy around 11 am on Saturday, so if you come earlier, it will be a lot quieter.

Great local restaurant and bar! Service was outstanding and food was very good. We had the wings and hummus off the happy hour menu and enjoyed both choices. Ki is a phenomenal bartender - personable and engaging. We will be back!

Came here with a big group of girls for a bachelorette party and Cliff's did such a nice job accommodating all of us. Our server was so nice and the food was great! I got a cup of the jalapeño corn chowder which was very yummy, lots of corn so not a ton of broth and it wasn't a creamy chowder fyi but I really enjoyed it. I also got a side Caesar salad which was super light and nice! The lemon shrimp pasta was very good and the small size came with three shrimp. I only got the small because I wanted the side salad and soup so it was a perfect size for that. I would definitely come back here :)

I've eaten here two times now: Aug 13 (trivia night--Wednesday) and Aug 31 (last night--a Sunday). Trivia night is packed and serious business. They have a screen where you can follow what is happening. We weren't playing, so I don't know how great that was. Sunday was not busy and a great time to go if you don't have a reservation. The atmosphere is upscale casual. Both times I ordered the Citrus Shrimp Salad and it was spectacular. If you are Vegan or GF, those items are clearly marked on the menu. They also have a dedicated fryer for the gluten folks. Last night, we also had an appetizer--Satay Spicy Shrimp (2 skewers with 3 shrimp each). My husband went last night and said he won't go back. He was not impressed with his chicken sandwich on bread...he felt it should have been on a bun. I'm sure he could have asked for a bun at an up-charge. The thing that really ticked him off was that he ordered an Old Fashioned and said "just your well whiskey." This is pretty commonly known as saying, "I don't want top shelf." He was charged with for a premium liquor, and it was $14!! We've paid that at other places and expected it, but when you specifically ask for "well whiskey" and get the top shelf, that is just ridiculous. Now, their "Specialty Cocktail" menu says "Woodford Old Fashioned." We think that the server just ordered an Old Fashion from the bartender, but when my husband said "well whiskey," that was when the server should have clarified exactly what he wanted. EVERYWHERE we go, the server clarifies this request. It really bums me out, because I wanted to schedule a Meetup event here. I love it! But he won't go back, so...‍

Incredible! The staff, the establishment, the food, drinks...hell, even the parking, was incredible. My 1 year old daughter was hangry before we got there and as soon as we sat down, they gave her a snack plate. The menu has the classics and some very unique items (looking at you, jalapeño corn chowder). The drinks were fun and fresh. Our server, Rebecca, continued to excessed our expectations. We'll be back for sure

My shrimp pasta was very good, and the service to our medium size party was excellent. We sat outdoors, and while it was painfully brutally hot for about half an hour, when the sun was going down, it was fine after.

Cliff's is so family-friendly. I would come here just because of that alone. Upon arrival, we quickly got a table and then a kid "appetizer" was set in front of my children. Goldfish and grapes! That is such a small, kind gesture that goes a long way. I always put my children's food order before ours so they could bring it out first. Shortly after we put in the adult orders, the chicken fingers came out piping hot! I really appreciate the customer service and care. The food is also very good. My husband ordered a burger and it was actually cooked medium rare, just as we requested. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was juicy. We would definitely return the next time we are in the neighborhood!

Came from RI to go to Chiefs game. Went to Cliff's three times over the weekend!. Great food and even greater staff!

Good food, friendly atmosphere. I don't drink, but it looks like they have a nice bar, too. The chicken bacon club was great.

Visited for dinner--- dark, moody, and intimate atmosphere. Attentive service. The flavors of the Chicken Bacon Club were delicious, however, one-fourth of the chicken was nearly impossible to chew off and had some sort of bone in it. For the Buffalo Wings, it felt like there was barely any meat or sauce on it. Chicken was definitely a miss for this visit, but their other options looked promising.

Stopped in on a Saturday evening, and ordered the chef's special fish sandwich. It had a mango slaw with a homemade tartar sauce. It was delicious! Our server was attentive, and sweet. It was a nice dinner before going out to an event at union station. I'll be back for brunch!

Don't go here for brunch. They used to have an awesome brunch menu and even still show it on their website but when we went there they sat us down and gave us a menu with only a couple of items on it. We were both shocked because the menu on their website sounded amazing. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else. What a disappointment. So I suggest calling before you go to make sure it's the full brunch menu so you don't waste your time.

First of all my go to meal has always been Salmon, Haricot verts, and some of the creamiest mashed potatoes ever! This is my comfort plate without breaking the bank! To top it off a piece of delectable rich and moist chocolate on chocolate cake! The best place to grab a night cap, chat with Larry the owner and enjoy my neighborhood! Always 5 star happiness here!

My friend brought me here, my first time and I'll gladly return. We were greeted by the owner; very nice man. Menu is solid, great options and nice selection of brew. I had a small salad and the mushroom sausage Flatbread and it didn't disappoint. I tried the Cinder Block English Cherry Cider and that is one fantastic drink. Wonderful staff. Overall, a great experience you need to try for yourself.

Great service, great food, the owner approached the table a few times asking how everything was. The server was very nice, explained the taphouse and the owner's background. Pointed out the "Happy Hour" menu, what the house favorites were and the upcoming events. The owner also pointed out all the places to visit in the Union Hill area. Will definitely go back again, maybe next time sitting on the patio. It was too hot this visit.

We walked into Cliff's and were warmly greeted by Cliff (I think). We chose to sit outside. They had a lovely covered patio were we enjoyed happy hour drinks and appetizers. The sangria was especially delicious as were the appetizers. We ordered bruschetta, a flat bread, and buffalo cauliflower. My only suggestion would be to toast the bread on the bruschetta. The service was great as well. We would definitely be back if in the city.

Since moving to KC, Cliff's has been my go-to place for happy hours, dinners, and drinks! This is definitely a homey place, full of American eats, along with some experimental food and drinks. Service here is always the best--they are really great at making you feeling like part of the family, and I've never left feeling at all like I am not best friends with everyone in the place, including the owner, who is great at giving time to people in the restaurant even when things are super busy! The drinks are usually pretty good! When I come here, I usually check out their beer on tap selection because they have so many different taps--however, their list is sometimes out of date, so just look over to the bar or ask your server for the updates! Their signature drinks are usually pretty good, too, if that is more your bag! Happy hour offerings are always my go-to--and these include food and drink specials. They are great for a group, and I am always full by the time I leave. Thanks, everyone at Cliff's for always making me feel at home!

I'm not sure you can have anything bad here. The food at the table was great and pricing was reasonable. Service was eh. Drinks were good. I would come back and bring friends.

Came to cliffs tap house after unwelcoming service at Tower Tavern. Was not disappointed from the time we entered. Instantly greeted and welcomed to choose a seat anywhere. I forgot our servers name but after some conversation we discovered she was from CA like us. food was amazing! Lobster Mac was the right amount of cheesiness and very tasteful, the bread crumbs seal the deal. The mushroom sausage flatbread was delicious as well with the perfect crunch. Great drink options and friendly servers as well as owner. very clean & friendly atmosphere! Will be back!

Had a fun first visit to Cliff's Taphouse in Martini Corner. Lots of beer on tap, as you might expect. I'd describe the menu as upscale bar food. All very tasty, fairly priced and speedy/friendly service. With indoor and outdoor seating, we opted for the patio. The weather was really nice this evening. After ordering a round of drinks, we started with Gorgonzola Potatoes, which is one of the house signatures. Seasoned Waffle Cut Fries with Gorgonzola Sauce. The only downside is its very filling. So watch what you order for an entrée. I had heard good things about the Wings and Satay Spicy Shrimp. Both lived up to my expectations. Wished the Buffalo sauce on the wings had a tad more kick. Also, these are full-size wings. The Asian Slaw with the shrimp was tasty. The Asian Chop Salad is another crowd favorite, which my wife enjoyed. It comes with Grilled Chicken, Asian slaw, Wontons and Asian Vinaigrette. It's a meal in itself. We met Larry Kime, the owner of Cliff's. He opened it in April 2021, and previously managed Nick and Jake's Restaurant south of the Plaza. He has a good feel for what his clientele want in terms of menu items. He also has an eye for talent. Our server Brooke was a superstar and we highly recommend her. We look forward to coming back for brunch and the bottomless mimosas!

Cliff's is a perfectly acceptable American restaurant. Its menu includes a variety of burgers, sandwiches, salads, pasta dishes and even a steak and a salmon entree. Brunch is offered on the weekends. I thought the prices were fair and the service was good. They're big on happy hour, which makes sense based on their location. I liked the beer list, though I've noticed they don't always update the seasonal offerings. You might ask your server if your seasonal beer is still on tap. There is a small patio, which is nice when the weather is right.

This was our first time here, but we loved everything we ordered. And the service was pretty good too. Hidden local gem. We will be back.

Our dinner club rotates where we dine out every month and January's choice was Cliff's. None of us had ever been and we all walked away very happy. Cliff's is located in the swanky Martini Corner area and is open and inviting. It's a great choice for a group. Not too loud, relaxed and fun service, and a great cocktail and dinner menu. It feels like your friendly neighborhood bar. We enjoyed the Buffalo Cauliflower Bites for a a starter. They were excellent. My husband had a Mushroom and Sausage Flatbread and I had the Shrimp and lemon pasta. I really like that Cliff's offers half portions of many entrees as well as numerous vegan choices. Overall, just a really great choice to add to your dining rotation! Affordable, friendly, and tasty!

Husband and I live within walking distance of this spot and it took us a year before trying in person. I did order takeout from there once. We went at happy hour and were pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere and the service. The staff were warm and welcoming and we got a chance to chat with the owner. The food was delicious and large portions reasonably priced. We had leftovers and the bill was lower than expected. We are kicking ourselves for not trying this place sooner and plan to come back soon. We split the burger and the mac and cheese. The waffle fries were exceptional. We ate the turtle cheesecake before our meal, which is probably why we had leftovers. The blood orange cocktail was delicious but I didn't love the red sangria.

Great Atmosphere, great service. Menu was very diverse. I would definitely recommend Cliffs to my friends and family to enjoy a pleasant night out for dining.

Food was delicious! We had the salmon and the shrimp lemon pasta. We ended up being there when trivia started and it looked fun. Our waitress was Darby and she was fantastic!

We loved the vibe of the restaurant. It was Restaurant Week so we had that menu which was outstanding! Our server was very friendly and attentive so it was smooth sailing for us. We will definitely return.

As usual, Cliff's did not disappoint. The other day we went for drinks and an early dinner. I had a spicy Bloody Mary, which was delightful, then tried a purple seasonal drink (not my favorite, but it looked pretty). I had the Veggie Burger and waffle fries, and my partner ordered the Buffalo Cauliflower Bites and a side of mac 'n cheese. He even ended up ordering another Buffalo Cauliflower Bites, they're that good! I typically avoid American restaurants because the food can be boring and all blur together, but Cliff's unique takes stand out. The vegan and vegetarian options are tasty and appreciated. I will continue to rave about this place, it's a gem in Kansas City for sure.
