The Best 9 Hostels in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)

"I appreciated Ecomama's boutique, eco-friendly approach — it's right at the end of the Red Light District and around the corner from Waterlooplein, and everything is environmentally sustainable, from fair-trade materials to natural stone heating and waste recycling. The rooms are beautiful with art, lots of natural light, and very comfy mattresses; the common room and spacious kitchen make it easy to hang out, and the place has a boho-chic, posh vibe. What a cool hostel! Tucked behind the cafe, this hostel has a massive common area, fully equipped kitchen, and outdoor area. The staff was friendly and the hostel was cleaned daily. The rooms were also not half bad. The location of the hostel, while it could be better, is good. It’s close enough to the center, red light district, and central station to reach within fifteen minutes by foot, but far enough away to be safe and quiet. Overall I would stay here again! Disliked - I would stay here again if I had the money! Not unique to this hostel are the insane prices for accommodations in Amsterdam. Aside from that, nothing much I didn’t like. Maybe add curtains to the beds and have under bed lockers.

Positives: *The hostel is very well located, just a few minutes' walk from the subway and several city attractions. *Very welcoming staff. *Clean rooms and bedding. *Although there is no breakfast, there is a stove and refrigerator. Cons: *The locker has no lock and no security. In other words, you need your own lock. Furthermore, the locker doesn't fit a carry-on bag. These are essential features, in my opinion, to ensure our belongings are secure. It makes no sense to pay for a hostel and have to leave our luggage under the bed because it doesn't fit in the locker. There is enough space in the rooms to provide adequate and secure lockers for travelers. This aspect urgently needs to be addressed. I've traveled to several hostels in Europe and have never seen a lack of secure storage. *The shower area is always dirty and has hair on the floor and walls *The mattress is too soft

I truly appreciate everything about ClinkMama! I think ClinkMama is a hidden gem, a true treasure in a sea of hospitality and available stays. The attention to detail everywhere from the coffee shop, to the amazing staff, the lounge and the rooms make you feel some way of community, sharing, and being apart of something ecological. I booked the king size bed, and it was perfect, with it's own bathroom. It was ideal for my stay. The location was perfect too! 10/10 for ClinkMama

The hotel was fine. I didn't like the room very much; the door is very noisy and disturbs your sleep. There are no power outlets in the bed, and the top bunk has a large gap on the side by the wall, so your belongings (or you) could fall out. The location was good! The cleanliness was also good. I waited every day for the activities, but none were held. Another thing, I would recommend adding more light, as the current lighting makes the atmosphere a little sad.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel. The staff were friendly, the room was comfortable, and the atmosphere was great. Everything was nearly perfect, and I truly appreciated the warm hospitality. However, I’d like to share a concern regarding the bed reservation process. Before check-in, I contacted the hostel to request a bottom bunk due to my back issues and the fact that I had a long stay booked. At first, I was told it would depend on availability, but later I received an email saying I could guarantee a bottom bunk by paying an extra fee. When I checked in, the staff showed me to the room and mentioned I was “lucky” to get a bottom bunk—there was no mention of the additional charge. I also asked other staff during my stay, and they told me I didn’t need to pay anything. Because of this, I assumed it had either been waived or was not required after all. However, at checkout, the manager told me that I still needed to pay the fee. When I explained what I had been told earlier, she said, “We are all human and can make mistakes.” I completely understand that mistakes happen, but I don’t understand why I, as the guest, should have to take responsibility for this miscommunication. I followed the instructions, confirmed my request, and even checked with multiple staff—but in the end, I was told I must pay or risk being blacklisted. That left me feeling disappointed and uncomfortable. I truly like this hostel, and the team has been very kind and welcoming throughout my stay. I just hope that in the future, all charges and special requests are clearly communicated at the time of check-in, and that if mistakes do happen, fair and respectful solutions are offered rather than placing the burden on the guest. Also, just a small suggestion—adding privacy curtains to each bed would make the stay even better. Thank you again for the overall great experience. I hope the management system continues to improve, and I wish you all the best.

Beautiful hostel, good energy and tranquility. The staff was very kind, especially Daiana and Sara, who were attentive to every detail. The female shared room is nice, and the bathrooms are clean. The only issue I had was that when I arrived, I bought food at the supermarket for my stay, and it was stolen. When I got up for breakfast, my box of food that I had left in the fridge with my name on it was gone. The girls made me a coffee and offered me something to eat. Everything else was great!

We recently had the pleasure of staying at ClinkMama and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. From the moment we arrived, the service at the front desk was exceptionally warm, professional, and welcoming, which immediately set a positive tone for our stay. Our room was impeccably clean, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable—two qualities that are most important to us when choosing accommodations. The attention to detail in room preparation reflected a high standard of hospitality and care. Breakfast was more than adequate, offering a satisfying variety of options to start the day. The dining area was well-maintained, and the staff ensured everything ran smoothly. Overall, our experience was truly delightful. We deeply appreciate the efforts of the entire team and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to our friends and family. Many thanks to all the staff for making our stay so pleasant and memorable.

DON’T book unless you’re sure your transport wouldn’t be delayed or cancelled. I sent them message for my delayed arrival time but nil replies/acknowledgement; then I receive email from them first thing after landed that - whole booking was CANCELLED despite it’s fully paid. All the rush to the hostel from airport and got the booking back. Thanks! Most of the staff were helpful except BELLA who had all the policies and rules, educating me for her company has enquiry numbers x3 (which I don’t have Europe phone). She should be an officer instead of customer service.
