The Best 9 Hostels in Amsterdam (Updated 2025)

"I appreciated Ecomama's boutique, eco-friendly approach — it's right at the end of the Red Light District and around the corner from Waterlooplein, and everything is environmentally sustainable, from fair-trade materials to natural stone heating and waste recycling. The rooms are beautiful with art, lots of natural light, and very comfy mattresses; the common room and spacious kitchen make it easy to hang out, and the place has a boho-chic, posh vibe. We recently had the pleasure of staying at ClinkMama and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. From the moment we arrived, the service at the front desk was exceptionally warm, professional, and welcoming, which immediately set a positive tone for our stay. Our room was impeccably clean, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable—two qualities that are most important to us when choosing accommodations. The attention to detail in room preparation reflected a high standard of hospitality and care. Breakfast was more than adequate, offering a satisfying variety of options to start the day. The dining area was well-maintained, and the staff ensured everything ran smoothly. Overall, our experience was truly delightful. We deeply appreciate the efforts of the entire team and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to our friends and family. Many thanks to all the staff for making our stay so pleasant and memorable.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel. The staff were friendly, the room was comfortable, and the atmosphere was great. Everything was nearly perfect, and I truly appreciated the warm hospitality. However, I’d like to share a concern regarding the bed reservation process. Before check-in, I contacted the hostel to request a bottom bunk due to my back issues and the fact that I had a long stay booked. At first, I was told it would depend on availability, but later I received an email saying I could guarantee a bottom bunk by paying an extra fee. When I checked in, the staff showed me to the room and mentioned I was “lucky” to get a bottom bunk—there was no mention of the additional charge. I also asked other staff during my stay, and they told me I didn’t need to pay anything. Because of this, I assumed it had either been waived or was not required after all. However, at checkout, the manager told me that I still needed to pay the fee. When I explained what I had been told earlier, she said, “We are all human and can make mistakes.” I completely understand that mistakes happen, but I don’t understand why I, as the guest, should have to take responsibility for this miscommunication. I followed the instructions, confirmed my request, and even checked with multiple staff—but in the end, I was told I must pay or risk being blacklisted. That left me feeling disappointed and uncomfortable. I truly like this hostel, and the team has been very kind and welcoming throughout my stay. I just hope that in the future, all charges and special requests are clearly communicated at the time of check-in, and that if mistakes do happen, fair and respectful solutions are offered rather than placing the burden on the guest. Also, just a small suggestion—adding privacy curtains to each bed would make the stay even better. Thank you again for the overall great experience. I hope the management system continues to improve, and I wish you all the best.

Beautiful hostel, good energy and tranquility. The staff was very kind, especially Daiana and Sara, who were attentive to every detail. The female shared room is nice, and the bathrooms are clean. The only issue I had was that when I arrived, I bought food at the supermarket for my stay, and it was stolen. When I got up for breakfast, my box of food that I had left in the fridge with my name on it was gone. The girls made me a coffee and offered me something to eat. Everything else was great!

Very nice hostel. One of the best I have stayed in over the years. I would definitely recommend this hostel. The rooms were clean and fresh looking. The showers were nice and warm and well designed. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

DON’T book unless you’re sure your transport wouldn’t be delayed or cancelled. I sent them message for my delayed arrival time but nil replies/acknowledgement; then I receive email from them first thing after landed that - whole booking was CANCELLED despite it’s fully paid. All the rush to the hostel from airport and got the booking back. Thanks! Most of the staff were helpful except BELLA who had all the policies and rules, educating me for her company has enquiry numbers x3 (which I don’t have Europe phone). She should be an officer instead of customer service.

We were staying next door but one at the Hotel Monet Garden where breakfast is a tidy €22.50 per person! So we popped into EcoMama for coffee and pastries. It’s a lovely chill place, the service was super friendly, the coffee and croissants were top notch. I would definitely come back and do this again.

I loved my staying there! I was solo travelling for the first time, so I was worried about how it could be.. but the hostel was ideal for that! So close to the center (like 15m walking), the shared rooms were amazing(you can chill in the living room, cook in the kitchen, have a coffee in the cafeteria). The female dorm was also kinda nice, with a really nice view. The only thing is that they weren’t any curtains between the beds as shown in the photos but it wasn’t that much of a problem! Also, the showers were convenient because they had extra room for changing! Overall, a really nice experience! I would definitely recommend it if you are solo travelling and you either want to meet new people or to just be with yourself!

Great hostel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Fellow travelers were also nice with positive vibes. Only complaint was the shower. I stayed here during the summer and water coming out of the shower was very hot. I talked to staff about it, and they mentioned that unfortunately there's no way to adjust the water temperature.
