A Wine Lover's Guide to Beaune, France - AFAR

"A stop half an hour’s drive to the north of Beaune at the Château du Clos du Vougeot is obligatory to see where the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin is headquartered and meet for its riotous parties. The society, founded to promote Burgundy and its wines, isn’t as secretive as it once was, but still has a reputation as being somewhat old-school and elitist. Although don’t worry, you don’t need your own tastevin (the silver spoons famously used by the brotherhood to taste wine) to go on an historical tour of the château and learn about the development of winemaking in the region." - Eleanor Aldridge

Another beautiful castle, worth visiting if you’re exploring Bourgogne. The vineyards surrounding the castle creates such an amazing atmosphere. Also, the interior is beautiful, so many interesting exhibits and infos’s.

Very rural area, and an ancient style building with long history of wine making and the guide of Michelin. The self guided tour ticket is very cheap and affordable (just 9 euros and can be purchased on site). A one hour tour should be sufficient.

Cistercian Monks, chewed on the soil, followed the patterns of the moon, and discovered the best places in Burgundy to grow the best grapes, to make the best wine. Nearly a thousand years of history here.

It is the second time I come to Clos de Vougeot, probably one of my favorite Chateau & wine in Burgundy ! I really recommend coming here !

Booked a wine tasting here as there are few places you can book in advance without doing a group tour. Turns out, you receive a private wine tasting upstairs guided by an expert who was fantastic. So much information and details on the region, how the plots of land are divided, and interesting maps to show you where exactly the wine comes from that you are tasting. And of course you gain access to the property to stroll at your leisure and explore the castle. Well worth doing!

We did the Taste Vintage wine lunch, which was very insightful in learning about this important wine region. The tour and grounds were something to see. I highly recommend…

Of course, it's worth going here in good weather. It is very convenient to get there by car; there will be no problems with parking. We really liked the museum itself; we generally love museums that display real exhibits. And by the way there was a wonderful view of these surroundings from the windows of the museum.
