Aspen, Colorado Guide: Here’s Where To Stay, Ski, and Eat In America’s Chicest Mountain Town | Vogue

"If your Aspen ethos is to go big or go home, well, Cloud Nine is where you go to achieve that. The cabin, nestled mid-mountain on Aspen Highlands, is known for its raucous champagne-shower lunches where Veuve Clicquot is shot out of spray guns while a DJ blasts and strobe lights flash. (Seated inside? You might want to bring a change of clothes.) Oh, the fondue isn’t half bad either." - Elise Taylor

Where to Eat in Aspen

"As the Swiss discovered long ago, there’s something about fondue and mountains that just makes sense. Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro is pricey, but nowhere else in Colorado replicates the homey spirit of the Alps quite like this. Stop by for lunch or go all out with a snowcat dinner." - MATADOR_NETWORK

"Don't be deceived by its appearance as a sweet little cabin perched on a mountain—inside, things are raucous as can be. This Alpine-style restaurant is worth visiting at least once, if only to bare witness to the wild, apres-ski scene. (Pro tip: Just don’t wear anything you wouldn’t want completely drenched in champagne.)"

Google
Alittle too high end for me. Not my style. But objectively, service was great, as was the food. Wished they had more ala carte options. Could have a hearty soup/stew option to warm up on.

Google
We couldn’t reserve an inside table for champagne showers during peak holiday. However, we decided to go there anyway and were seated outside. It’s still an amazing experience - nice view of maroon bell and music. Food was amazing. Our server was extremely nice to us. We will definitely go back for the inside party.

Locals opinion: it's worth every effort to experience it. Celebrated an anniversary and staff went above & beyond. Skiing ability level intermediate++ pay attention.

Google
Cloud Nine is an amazing experience. The food and beverage options are not your typical ski lodge fare. Expect a fine dining experience in a lodge combined with a party atmosphere. The staff is dynamite! Expect to have a great time, but be prepared it will cost you.

Google
Great time. Service here was the best at a restaurant I've had anywhere in Aspen. Everyone that worked there was friendly and matched the places vibe of a good time. Steak was very good. Wish more places in Aspen jas the service of this spot!

Google
Love this place on Aspen Highlands. Nice Apres Ski! Food is good and the DJ plays good music. We went to the 2pm time slot for the champagne spray. What a great environment.

Eric Hixon

Google
It has an amazing view up the valley and not as crazy as I expected. Yummy fondue and good looking options for other courses. It is expensive and hard to get a reservation but the ski in and ski out is an extra bit of fun. In fact, you have to be an intermediate skier to even get in and out at the top of Highlands. It is all about the view and people watching for the afternoon seating apparently.

Google
Great food mid mountain at Aspen Highlands. Price is not cheap but food is definitely great and worth the money! The sea bass I had was perfectly done, crispy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth texture on the inside. The bed of squash puree with oats and pine nuts was a perfect pairing to the fish. Well done!

Yelp
We've done both the first and second seating before. Wildly different experiences lol but the champagne party is pretty epic. I hadn't laughed so hard in a long time. Our server was attentive and got us free hats. Day made! Also the post champagne ski down the mountain was quite possibly the best run of my life . Fantastic experience. We will return

Yelp
Look, I like a good party as much as the next guy, but this place brings ostentatious to a new level. Call me old fashioned and perhaps I should have known better than to book the second seating, but I came away from my overpriced raclette and afternoon doused in champagne and entirely wondering when It became more in fashion to spray champagne instead of sipping it. I just didn't get the appeal.

Yelp
Mid mountain restaurant and famed après ski party site on Aspen Highlands. Not a big lodge, with a cramped indoor space that sits 20-30 guests and an outdoor patio that's about the same size. Ski/snowboard in and out. Definitely get a later reservation ($50 deposit minimum, 1:30 or 1:45pm) to get into the party. The food is pricey, and the champagne list is even pricier. My friend and I both got a hot chocolate to start. It's an okay hot chocolate for $8. The prix fixe mains are like $68 each and includes soup or salad. I got the short rib and got the soup. The soup is a shellfish (maybe lobster) bisque which was decent. The short rib came with some greens and potatoes. Tasted fine, although portion is not that big. Lastly, ordered the chocolate fondue which is $25 and can only be ordered if your group has 2 or more people. Portion wise this was pretty big, and has a bunch of ingredients like berries, marshmallows, cookie chunks etc. to dip into the chocolate sauce. Overall bill including tip was around $120 per person. Will be a lot more if you order alcohol. The apres-ski party starts at around 2:30pm, and happens in the outdoor space. Highrollers that buy champagne are given special champagne spray guns that look like Thompson submachineguns. The DJ starts blasting the tunes and everybody is singing along and dancing (as well as you could in ski/snowboard boots) while people spray thousands of dollars worth of champagne all over the place. Was a bluebird sunny day when I was there, so got the beautiful backdrop of the blue skies, snow on the ski runs and mountains in the distance. Party ends at about 3:45pm after all the lifts close, and hopefully you're not too drunk to get down the mountain. Overall, a pricey but fun experience. The food is okay and not great for the price, but it's the setting and the party that makes the experience.

Yelp
You can't beat the views from Cloud Nine! Having a drink with Maroon Bells in the background is an experience in itself. The prices of everything is also as high as the clouds but it's on top of a mountain in Aspen so what else do you expect at the rich peoples party. The 3pm après-ski party is like nothing I've ever seen! Music bumping, people dancing on tables, and hundreds of dollars of Champagne being sprayed everywhere. Such a fun experience... I will say the inside party was so hot, humid and smelt like straight booze that I almost puked just walking inside. I also got aggressively pushed by a server as I was trying to walk to the bathroom. I'd suggest enjoying the party outside which seemed much more enjoyable. Also, you have to be careful skiing back down to town after champagne galore. Drunk skiers all going down at once is never a good mix.

Val R.

Yelp
Very posh! Amazing views. Food was too heavy for a mid-ski meal. And there were no good options for veg or dairy-free. Basically, people go so that they can say they were there.
google avatar

Britney A.

Yelp
The coolest ski in/out restaurant ever. Incredible views. Champagne flowing and the DJ always rocking, its a day club on the top of the ski hill. You have to make a reservation a year+ in advance if you want a table inside (which we did not) but got to hang inside for a bit with some new friends we made in line for the bathroom(it was super crowded). Food was average but vibe was 10/10

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. My friends and I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant. Our waiter was super rude from the minute we walked in. Ordered a bottle for our table, within 2 minutes of sitting down we were pressured to order food while half of the restaurant was empty. We tried to order a few appetizers to share but because every person in the party (only 5 people in our reservation) didn't order something we were kicked out. They would not let us order another bottle or the appetizers we wanted. He stated he wasn't going to waste his time waiting on us if we wanted to share appetizers. They would not let us finish our drinks without bringing the pay check 1 minute later. The waiter was very rude and in our faces the entire time and then got the manager to tell us to leave while we were saying hi to our friends. Really weird experience. Don't waste your money here.

Adam F.

Yelp
Don't believe the fake reviews. Smells like pooey. Cheapest glass of wine is $40. They'll ask you to lie to them just to get in. Kitchen closed before three. We walked out so cannot speak to food or drink quality.

Chris G.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Chicken superb. Salad tasty. Savory bread pudding was amazing. Service is five star. Eating on the deck in the spring is priceless.

Christian H.

Yelp
Went there over the weekend of January 23rd. Had a great time, but when it came to pay, our group clearly explained that we wanted to pay for our $267 tab with $100 cash, and the rest on a credit card. Our server, Cliff, must've pocketed the cash, as we left a 20% tip in addition to the $267, thinking that he deducted the $100 from the total. The total we were charged for was $317, in addition to the $100 cash we already gave. After explaining this to the credit card company, Cloud Nine has continued to deny our claims, and suggests that there was ever any cash involved. Great location, shady business. Hopefully they turn it around soon.

Yelp
This was a beyond disappointing experience. We made a "standard apres" reservation for 1:45 pm as we wanted the apres experience at cloud 9, not the lunch experience that we would have at an earlier seating. When we arrived we were seated at a table crammed between other tables that barely fit our 6 people around. No one came to our table for at least 15-20 minutes- when someone finally came over we tried to order a couple bottles of wine but were told VERY rudely that we could not drink unless we ordered food. The attitude from the server was so off putting that we wanted to leave instantly. We said we would order a couple appetizers for the table (as we'd already eaten lunch prior to 2pm) but were told that we'd all need to order an entree otherwise she could only give us each a half glass of wine (the allotted food:alcohol ratio was extremely arbitrary and nothing I've experienced at any mountain bar/restaurant EVER). We were told that this is for "liability" issues and is a "restaurant policy". This was not mentioned anywhere in the reservation booking. Needless to say we were not interested in ordering full meals when we'd already eaten and were just looking to have a couple drinks and a fun time. We couldn't get up and leave fast enough- when you're gonna pay the outrageous prices they're charging for wine, I'd at least like to be served with a smile and not treated like the scum of the earth by the extremely condescending staff. Spend your money at the many other wonderful places on the mountain and avoid this place at all costs!

Yelp
5 stars to the Chef! Food was outrageously good! It was extremely windy and freezing the day we sat outside. Our water froze in glass during our sunny lunch. Soup and fresh bread was such a good start. We split entrees and I had to add an apple dessert. Come on now.

Yelp
You can't make a trip to Aspen without going. Even if you have to ski Highlands just to go. By the way that's the only option for getting there as it is ski in ski out. Pre-Covid there was a famous champagne party which will hopefully be back but in the meantime you can still enjoy the bubbles along with the raclette and fondue among other delicious mountain delicacies. Make a reservation way ahead of time!

Yelp
I love this place ! A must go when in Aspen! Such a unique experience. Lots of Champagne ! Excellent menu too, try the seafood tower !

Yelp
This is a favorite lunch every year. We always make reservations for the 2pm seating. We love skiing Highlands then having the most fun lunch anywhere! It's loud, it's crowded and we wouldn't miss it! The food is great; place your order early. Tommy is always so friendly and Rodrigo is a wonderful waiter. If you don't want champagne sprayed on you, you may want to skip it. Ski In, Dance Out....it's an Aspen tradition.

Meryem B.

Yelp
How fun was this experience ! If you like to go crazy on the slopes with music and champagne showers but also enjoy tasty alpine cuisine.. then you gotta try Cloud Nine ! Staff was so nice and welcoming. I'd highly recommend this place.

Amanda K.

Yelp
The smell of sulfur is nauseating. $60 for one person is fine if it is worth it. We had a group of four for the fondue and they gave us one tiny platter ... after a morning of skiing that's a SNACK. I left feeling still hungry. This place is the definition of a rip off. It's just an overpriced instagram spot. NOT WORTH IT.

Guido G.

Yelp
I was greeted by George who was at the hostess stand. He was very rude to me and my guests. I notified the manager, Tommy. He was not very helpful and dismissed George's rudeness. For the amount of money they charge for a meal I would expect to be treated well. So, if you like being treated like shit, this is the place for you..!!!

Yelp
Cloud 9...Oh How I Love Thee So! Having started as a ski patrol shack/warming hut in 1973 with daily ski jumping shows by the ski patrol through the mid-1990s, to today's Veuve Clicquot Ice Bar and Champagne-spraying with music pumping on the sun deck, Cloud 9 is considered one of the best day dance parties among the jet-setting crowd and Hollywood A-listers. This is not your typical Vegas pool party crowd. Having been run since 1998, first by Austrian-born Andreas Fischbacher and now run by Swedish-born Tommy Tolleson, Cloud 9 has a European chalet and party feel of Verbier, Switzerland and St. Anton, Austria combined, in my opinion. Cloud 9 is Veuve Clicquot's #1 Account in the Country, so that should tell you something...especially since it's only open a few months of the year! Rumor is, the staff keeps count of all the bottles sprayed, and the number is like 100-140 bottles per afternoon, and that's only during a two hour period from 2pm-4pm! So, for those of you who don't know, meaning, the people who wrote negative or average reviews, you DON'T come to Cloud 9 for the Food! You come for the drinking, dancing and champagne popping/spraying, starting at 2pm. I mean, sure, you can come and have lunch and go back out and ski, but you'll be missing the whole point of Cloud 9. That would be like going to watch a sunset at 3pm, then leaving at 5pm before you even see the sun set at 7pm, lol. And the food at Cloud 9 is good, but nothing to write home about, which is why I think people are disappointed. And of course, if you don't like to be around a "Party Atmosphere", then don't stay here past 2pm because that's when it all starts and there's a HIGH LIKELIHOOD that you'll be doused/sprayed/soaked with Champagne. EVERYONE gets sprayed with Champagne here, that's the point. Insider Tips: 1. If you wanna a table at Cloud 9 on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday during peak ski season, then you'd better call a Month in Advance for a reservation. They have a 12pm seating and a 2pm seating...get the 2pm. 2. If you don't have a reservation, get here around 2pm, and hang around the bar area or just join a table, which is easy to do as everyone's drunk, and stay till they close at 4pm. 3. I highly recommend you drink, A LOT, as it gets Crazy, lol. 4. If it's your first time, or to do at least once, buy a bottle of Champagne to pop open and spray onto the crowd of people dancing on the deck or inside the restaurant. They won't mind cause THAT'S WHAT YOU DO HERE. It's $125 for a bottle of Veuve Clicquot which isn't cheap, but you're on Vacation, in Aspen, at the Top of a Mountain at 11,000 feet, with 250 drunk/crazy people, with good music blaring, and you may only do this once in your life. I'm telling you, it's Worth Every Penny! Sounds crazy, I know, but it's more fun than you think it would be cause it's something so out of the norm of what logic tells you to do. So, follow the right side of your brain and throw logic out the window, haha. I would normally NEVER waste a good bottle of Champagne, but when I'm at Cloud 9 it makes TOTAL sense to do so, lol. 5. Stay till the very end, like 4:30pm and then ski down the mountain, unless you're too drunk to do so, at which point, Ski Patrol will take you, along with a dozen others, down the mountain in a Snowcat vehicle. But if you can ski it, do it. There's no one on the trails anymore and there's nothing like skiing while your drunk, can't describe it, it's just fun. And that's about it, haha. As you can see, I LOVE Cloud 9, and well, so do many others as this place is so popular and famous. Just get here, even if you don't ski that well - ski patrol can take you down. Cause this is a party you definitely don't wanna miss! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Yelp
This place was EXPENSIVE but a blast. We had a beautiful view and our lunch was great. Severs were polite. One word to the wise: if you book the 2pm seating, make sure you're INSIDE! They will not let you into the party even if you're a paying customer sitting outside :(. Kind of disappointing but the views and food made up for it :)

Darren W.

Yelp
Came for brunch and our waiter Mark has been a great help in picking out our dishes and was on top of everything highly recommend

Yelp
Snowcat ride up the hill to the bistro was an awesome adventure. The service for our party of 15 for dinner was great. The champagne, wine, salmon crudo,, lobster and crab boulibase, scallops with Spanish chorizo and bean sofrito were all fantastic! Everyone should experience Cloud Nine

Yelp
Do NOT order the gnocchi it's horrendous. I can't believe I got charged $51 for dry sweet potato pellets covered in cinnamon powder. Not at all what was described. Yuck.

AspenRealLife L.

Yelp
One of Aspen's treasures for the food, the views, the connecting with others ... and of course, the Champagne and the dancing on tables ... although, ask any local, we mostly only go when we are invited as we miss the charm and European feel that once was what made it so great.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice place to stop as 2pm , have lunch and drinks . There happens a party untill 3:30pm with champagne and good music . A lot of beautiful people having fun apes ski .

Mary D.

Yelp
They were knowingly charged my credit card fraudulently. Watch out! They mark up the wine 4 or 5 times retail.

Yelp
A truly unique experience with fondue, Raclette, or fix price entrees. I've never seen so much Veuve. Note: this is not typical ski lodge food and is priced as a 5 star restaurant. Expect to spend 100 between champagne and food. But it is a unique and incredible experience. Make reservations ahead of time.
google avatar

Terence O.

Yelp
Cloud Nine is an experience unlike any other Aprés environment in the states. The bistro is at the top of the lift and seatings are at 2pm. We tried to make reservations once we booked our vacation, but a month out and they were already booked. As our travel dates approached, we would check in periodically to see if there were any openings but with no luck. However, on one of the days of our trip there was heavy snowfall and as we were already on the mountain we decided to pop in and see if there were any openings. As luck would have it we got a table for 4 right in the action. The restaurant starts as a casual eatery, but at about 3pm mayhem ensues and champagne literally rains from the ceiling while people dance on chairs. The run down can be a little challenging though!
google avatar

Tim O.

Yelp
Cloud Nine was a welcome respite from the worst snow conditions I have ever experienced. Although I had to use the Visa Infinite concierge to snag the 2PM reservation, this restaurant is worth the hype. The charcuterie was on par with anything I've had anywhere and Veuve Clicquot tastes better at altitude. At $130 a bottle at 11,000 feet with spraying encouraged, the price is a non-factor. The place is a blast and even though we weren't able to sit in the main room, Cloud Nine will forever remain near the top of my list of many, many skiing memories.
google avatar

Amelia R.

Yelp
Make a reservation for the 2 pm seating and come ready to party with costumes and champagne showers!! Super fun and superb food, just be careful skiing down after! This place is a must-do in Aspen

Yelp
If you are looking for one of the most fun and remember-able meals of your life, then Cloud Nine should be one of the pit stops. Its located at the top of a chair lift, at Highlands Aspen Mountain, so the adventurous need apply. You better have a reservation, because this place fills up fast on the weekends. I recommend going with a group, because this experience must be shared. I came with a party of four, with a 1 p.m. reservation and was sat by a small fireplace. This restaurant is small, so be prepared to rub elbows with your neighbor. I also ordered ahead for the fondue and raclette. You have to order these 24 hours in advance and honestly it's the best way to experience Cloud Nine. The fondue came in a huge enamel-covered cast iron tub and had an endless supply of bread. The cheese was a mixture and wasn't overly greasy. The fondue is normally $35 per person, but since we ordered the raclette as well, it was only $17 a person. If you are only looking for one or the other they are both served with a salad or soup. I got the french onion and it was sweet, with the onion broth, but filling. The raclette was something out of this world. I have never seen one of these contraptions before, but its a little griddle, with little paddles underneath. On the top griddle, the waiter put a mixture of butter, cocktail onions, golden potato wedges and garlic cloves. These take a little while to cook, so be patient and enjoy your fondue. Just as the potato mixture was finishing our waiter brought us a plate full of cheese and different salami meats. The idea is to place the meat, cheese and vegetables on to the little paddles and place them under the grill so the cheese melts and meats crisp up. I did a few paddles at a time, because they do take a little while to cook. The meat and cheese plate are bottomless, including the vegetables, which is great for the price. Since this is an experience that should be taken in and time shouldn't matter, be prepared to spend at least two hours eating. Make sure to hit those slopes early, so you're nice and hungry for lunch. Trust me though, over eating (which we all did) made the ride down the mountain a little uncomfortable, but well worth it. We finished our amazing meal with the strudel, which had a nice buttery crust and almond/nutty paste filling. I agree that there are superb places to wine and dine in Aspen, but if you are looking for a one-of-a-kind lunch, then Cloud Nine will deliver eagerly.
google avatar

Brittany F.

Yelp
What fun place to have lunch!! The 2pm seating at Cloud 9 turns into a champagne party with a DJ and dancing, plus they serve the classically French raclette. Potatoes, peppers and garlic are grilled on a flattop in the middle of the table and cheese is heated in little trays under the flattop. While this was really tasty, it was a bit hard to eat with a group as the servings were so tiny we needed to be replenished every 10 minutes. The only way to get here is to ski, and the only way down is to ski. But that is part of the fun! Tip* if you don't want to get covered in champagne do not sit in the main room!

Yelp
OK. I know it's not fair because I think under normal circumstances I would have loved this spot. But please READ THIS REVIEW SO YOU DO NOT SUFFER THE SAME MISTAKES I DID. So we went to Aspen Presidents' Day Weekend in a big group and we found out that this place is THE place to go to eat some food and spray some Champagne all over your friends but it books SOLID a month in advance (at least it did during Presidents' Day Weekend/ Valentine's Day). We shook down a few trees and managed to get ressies for about half of our crew (leaving the other half very jealous and upset). We could only get the 12pm seating. Do NOT do this. If you are coming for sceney fun, I will explain why not. So OK, let me state the obvious: it's a small, kind of cramped-and-shitty cabin on the side of a mountain. That's the environment. It has this terrible yellow wood, and it's not fancy at all. The view is nice, but that's about it. So no big deal if it's just the backdrop to spraying Champagne and acting like an asshole. But that's not what happens at the 12pm seating. At the 12pm seating, you must stay in your seat, behave, and put up with the shitty music and unbelievably awful service. There will be families around you. With real, live children. People treat it like a normal restaurant. You might be thinking at this point that if we were to hang around longer then we might experience the debauchery, get drunk and forget our problems. Wrong. At 2pm they turn the table. In fact, they get up on a microphone and announce that you have to leave because the 2pm people are here. Classy. They also come around selling Cloud9 hats, which is cool for about 30 seconds until you realize that half of the restaurant is already wearing them and you look like a toolbox. The music was also terrible: they decided that for the 12pm seating they would play the Top 100 Greatest Love Songs of All Time, which sounds great in theory, but after the first "throwback", we realized that none of us wanted to get drunk to Whitney Houston. Our whole table was depressed after about 20 minutes. We politely (VERY politely) asked if they would be willing to consider changing the music and they said "SORRY, this is our music for the 12pm seating," as if God himself had given the instructions. At that point, we felt like second-class citizens to the 2pm-ers. In terms of food: we got the fondue for the table which was kind of good and kind of a mistake. When the bill came and it was almost $200 a person to eat a bunch of cheese and NOT get drunk or spray champagne, it was a bit of a bummer. The tomato soup is terrible by the way. That was the price for the prix-fixe menu, and an average of 2 drinks/person. Some of us got Champagne, some didn't. Oh, and a note about the Champagne: it's basically all Veuve (at least that's all I saw anyone drinking...and everything is orange) except for maybe some more expensive vanity bottles. You can get it by the glass and it's $25 or it's $125 for a bottle. Curiously, when we asked how many glasses per bottle, they told us four. So if that's true, when you get the bottle, you are literally just paying $25 extra dollars to have the bottle at your table. All in all, I'd give it one more chance but ONLY for the 2pm seating and I certainly would have zero expectations for food, service or atmosphere. Oh, and I wouldn't like to be the one covering the check in that scenario. Hope this helps!

Yelp
So much fun! My understanding is that you need to make a 2pm reservation several weeks out. We Went to the 2pm seating, which turns into a dance party by 3pm. Be prepared to spend some money when you are there, but worth it for the party. Charcuterie was good and so was the tomato soup. Husband had he prime rib and loved it. We skied down after a few drinks, not a great idea, took me quite a while and a lot of slow s-turns. Take the cat down if you're not a stellar skier.

Yelp
This is my third time at Cloud Nine. The first time over ten years ago it was a tiny shack with great alpine food. Then five years ago they doubled the size and the prices but it was fun and the food was still really good. So we came back today for their signature gruyère fondue, which is just an awful powder mix that, despite asking three times, they never managed to get hot. We finally sent it back and settled for the dish of the day, a Wiener schnitzel that was small, way overfried, and just disgusting too. The waiter did his best and was very sweet, but that food just sucked. Even the tomato soup tasted more like a punishment. We were at the first, 11:30 AM, service, the 2 PM is more about dancing on tables and spilling Veuve Cliquot. I hope that part is fun, but I will miss my $180.

Yelp
One of the best party atmosphere on-mountain you'll experience. Make reservations for lunch as it would be difficult getting a seat otherwise. The food is nothing special, but that's not why you're there. The drinks are fairly good. It's always packed and the atmosphere is always good. Great views of the mountain as well as the surrounding area. The service is usually good considering.

Yelp
Cloud Nine Snowcat Diner is a truly unique dinner experience. Recommend doing it once. Nestled inside of a warm and toasty European alpine ski hut at the top of the Cloud Nine lift on Aspen Highlands. 10,000ft +. Amazing evening views. One seating a night at 6:15pm. The food was very good equivalent to that of a michelin starred restaurant. Expect to pay $500+ for 2 people. The Snowcat ride up the mountain was quite the experience as well!

Yelp
Gone are the days of Austrian Alpine bliss under the supervision of Andreas (he left to open a restaurant in Carbondale). Now that Aspen Mountain staff have taken control, 47 year olds acting like 17 year olds with their dad's black card reign supreme here. If you don't mind crappy house music blared over the house stereo and waiting for your table's food to come with some mains arriving 20 minutes after others, go for it. Comments from the staff like, "you can either deal with it or not" create a warm and friendly atmosphere most would enjoy. Despite having eaten here before most of the lift-operator-cum-wait-staff-extraordinaire bought their first bong, me and my table were considered second citizens compared to the Jersey Shore casting remnants with napkins tied around their heads. No thanks, guys. You've ruined the best restaurant in Aspen Valley. Good Job! p.s. If you still are interested after the above then please know the food is way off: Raclette doesn't even include real raclette type of cheese. Duck Confit was undercooked and tough. Tomato soup was a perfect facsimile of Campbell's. et al.

Yelp
Went to Cloud 9 today for lunch and it was by FAR the best on-the-mountain dining experience I have ever had. Think of your typical lunch-time dining for a ski day. You walk in, you have to scour for 20 minutes for an open table, then wait in line for another 10 minutes and wait for them to cook your food, and then pay a fortune for food that isn't all that great. Cloud 9 is a completely different experience. The restaurant, which is located at the top of the Cloud 9 Lift in Aspen Highlands, is perched perfectly with a view of the Rocky Mountains. We made reservations for 3 through our hotel the night before, and couldn't have been more excited. The building seats maybe 25 people, and the tables are right next to each other. It is a very cozy situation haha! The inside of the restaurant looked identical to the inside of an Austrian or Swiss mountain restaurant. Very authentic! The waiter pours you a bottle of water immediately as you sit down. The menu is limited, which normally would bother me but EVERYTHING on the menu looked so good. On the left hand side of the menu are the daily specials, and the right side has specials for every day of the week. I had the Beef Pie, my sister had the salmon and my bro-in-law had the lamb sausages. INCREDIBLE!! For dessert we all split the apply cobbler with ice cream. Let me tell you: it was sooooo impossible to get back on to the mountain after that meal because we were so stuffed! The waiter even took pictures of us outside in front of the mountains with my camera after the meal. Amazing, and I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Never in my life have I experienced anything like what goes on at Cloud Nine! It was perhaps the most fun I have had in a decade. Friends who live in Aspen described it to us but there was simply no way we could have been prepared for what took place. The 2:00 seating is it. Everyone was soaked head to toe with champagne and no one would have had it any other way. It was amazing to see so many $130 bootleg of Veuve used to shower the crowd. Only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars was the cost - I spent $5,500!

Yelp
Amazing time and atmosphere! Perfect for mountain terrain dining. Went in there to say 'Hi' to Chef Mike and ended up having the best time. Thank you to all for making mommy/daddy powder day date, the best! Food was so good that I wanted to lick my plate clean, couldn't due to the fact I still had to ride down the snowy slopes. Will for sure make a point to stop by more often! Amaz

Yelp
Visited Cloud 9 for apré ski on a Friday and had a great time. Front half of the restaurant is louder and more of a fun time with music and dancing on table tops. The back half of the restaurant (access is through the kitchen) is more quiet and calm. The staff was absolutely amazing and catered to our every desire. Selection on the menu was great and the drinks were plentiful. Be aware that ski patrol comes around 4:00 to move the guests off the mountain. Good times with the patrol escorted ski run down the hill after the mountain was closed and empty.

Yelp
The service was super slow! We sat us outside and we ended up waiting 40 min in freezing cold weather for our server to come and so we could order more food and drinks. 3 minutes after they brought the food they told us that we had to leave for second seating guests. We ended up devouring 180$ food in 2 min since they were pressuring us to leave immediately. I am not going back. That was ridiculous!

Yelp
I think Cloud Nine is just something that anyone who visits Aspen has to see. It's a little more action than I'm looking for during my lunch, but I think it's most likely what many people visiting would at least be able to talk about when they get home. Tip: don't blow dry your hair the morning you come here if you want it to last, you will get sprayed with champagne....it's part of the experience.

Yelp
Cloud Nine is a fabulous and unexpected log cabin on Highlands mountain at the top of the Cloud Nine lift. There are only about 10 tables inside and the decor is a collection of old ski collectables, nothing fancy. However, the food and the atmosphere is out of this world. The beer tartar is incredible and the homemade pasta dishes are something to brag about. The tasteful menu and charming small log cabin at the top of the slopes turns into an unexpected dance party as the lunch hours come to an end... around 3pm Cloud Nine turns into a party you would not want to miss. I wouldn't call this a family scene, but it definitely appealed to all ages over 21. Don't miss out on Cloud Nine!

Yelp
Very unique experience, the food is great (we got bolognese, charcuterie board, and the beef tartare). We shared a few bottles of champagne before the lights went down and the music came on. I would definitely recommend booking as far in advance as possible to reserve a spot. We booked 30 days in advance for a January Thursday afternoon reservation. I would suggest booking the 2pm lunch if you have the choice.

Yelp
As we are leaving our condo in Snowmass that morning, my mother yells "Don't forget to get the apple strudel with the slague (whip cream)." By noon a blizzard had moved in. We were freezing despite skiing double blacks all morning. Our faces were numb. Time to stop and warm up. Considering the conditions, the mountain, let alone the place was empty. We sit down and order some hot chocolate and coffee to warm up. Looks like they have a wonderful wine list, but considering the weather didn't want to be skiing tipsy. The food and the service was wonderful. The little cabin is adorable. And yes Mom, the apple strudel was to die for. This place is wonderful and worth the price. Its completely different than your typical mountain lunch. Overall, it was an expensive, romantic lunch shared with my brother ... ok so a little awkward too.

Yelp
This is the best lunch / après ski place in the US. European style chalet - amazing fondue, champagne for days and people dancing on tables . Just don't forget you still have to ski down the mountain ....

Yelp
Had a great time! Food was great. Champagne was pretty spendy but delicious. The music was loud but songs were perfect for our group of baby boomers and millennials.
