These Hotels on Mexico's East Coast Range From Tropical Modernist to Boho-chic

"Sisal is a town located just over an hour's drive northwest of Mérida, on the Gulf of Mexico. It was an important port in the 19th century, but as ships got too big to dock there, the once-busy transport hub slipped into a quieter existence. It was recently named a 'Pueblo Mágico,' an official designation for towns that have preserved their heritage and traditions." - John Newton

This is a beautiful, thoughtfully designed hotel with a refined and tranquil atmosphere. While our stay was on the pricier side, I feel like I could justify the cost. The staff is exceptionally attentive—truly, every 30-60 minutes someone checks in to see if you need anything, which made us feel very well taken care of. The food and beverages, though not included, are outstanding. The beach is stunning—crystal-clear water and a peaceful, secluded vibe. The hotel is on the smaller side, which adds to its charm. During our stay in late May, it felt incredibly private; we rarely encountered other guests, even at mealtimes. It felt like we had the hotel and the beach to ourselves. The hotel also offers complimentary use of bikes, paddleboards, and snorkeling gear, which was a great bonus and added to the laid-back, explore-at-your-own-pace feel. If I had to suggest improvements, installing more ceiling fans—especially in the bedrooms and common areas—could make a noticeable difference in comfort. Overall, this is a perfect spot for those seeking relaxation, quiet, and a break from the busyness of daily life. However, if you're someone who prefers a fast-paced itinerary or structured activities, you may find it a bit too low-key. I could also imagine this place being a blast with a larger group of people.

Visited the hotel in the off season, but aside from the heat everything was spectacular. The hotel and location is breathtaking. You basically have a private beach, great pool, and amazing food all in one place. The food was much better than I expected, even the free breakfast had some really fantastic options. I really enjoyed the freshness of everything and all the food is perfectly seasoned. Everyone was super kind and helpful. Just don't forget to spray some of that complementary bug spray each time you get out of the water. The bed was a touch hard for my personal taste, but as good as any other hotel I've been to in Mexico. I do wish the air conditioning unit was in the bed section of the hotel room so it was more efficient for the space, but you mostly would not need it if you are not there in the hottest season. The ocean breeze is all you would need in the evenings to cool you down.

We visited Club de Patos for our honeymoon in mid-May. The hotel and the grounds are absolutely stunning, and we are confident this is the best place to stay if you are visiting Sisal full stop. We took advantage of the complementary snorkeling gear as the beaches are full of shells! We also booked a massage in our room through the hotel which was fabulous, and went on the flamingo tour- also fabulous. Our only complaint was that many things that were listed on the menu were not available- for example, no coconut water, no coconut milk, no white wine, no tamarind. They also ran out of olives and french fries while we were there. This may have been a time-of-season issue, however it seemed like every time we wanted to order something from the menu we had to come up with a second option. Otherwise, the food is absolutely outstanding, and the service is great- very attentive and kind. Definetely check out this hidden gem if you are looking for a quiet and serene getaway at a beautiful (and bird filled!!) destination. We will be back :)

What a disastrous experience. I booked online through PriceTravel for two nights and called the hotel to ask about early check-in. I was told my room could be ready by 1 pm. An hour later they contacted me to let me know the booking was made in error and that they have had no availability for a month. Either they are dishonest or incompetent. Regardless, avoid at all cost. Meanwhile, I need to deal with getting a refund from PriceTravel.

I met a group here for drinks and they had great drinks in a lovely setting with beautiful beach access.

This place is paradise! I found it on Trip Advisor and so glad I did. |The beach is beautiful and secluded. |The hotel is spread out over a few acres and each room seems very private despite a shared wall. Rooms are large, comfortable and well appointed. |The restaurant is top notch serving lots of great seafood, chicken, and vegan options. |It has one of the prettiest pools I’ve seen.

This was a beautiful day all around. From the moment we arrived we were treated as very special guests. The hotel itself is very beautiful and the staff were accommodating, present, and very kind to us. We felt as if we had a private beach and the way they had it set up for us left us without words. The landscaping around the pool is gorgeous. I could go on and on about Club de Patos and how wonderful the people are, how amazingly beautiful the property and beach is, how delicious the food and drinks are, but I implore you to go and truly experience it yourself.

Understated elegance. A luxurious corner of non-pretense in a quaint and well preserved area of Yucatan. The entire hotel oozes cozy and relaxation. The pool transports you to your own home garden, the secluded beach is a dream. The rooms are smooth and very well integrated into the local vegetation and landscape. Sleep, dream, relax, eat seafood, have a smooth mezcal, repeat.
