Line at reception for check in was ridiculous, beach is dirt and stoney, water was warmish but cloudy and dirty from the boats moored in the bay, view was pretty, resort is in desperate need of repair, roads are terrible, massages at "spa" were mediocre at best, food at "all-inclusive" restaurant buffet was not the worst I had in Costa Rica, rent a golf cart near reception unless you want to do a lot of walking between the rooms and the "amenities", unfortunately I do not speak Spanish so finding someone who speaks English is tricky but not impossible, the guy working the coffee shop has great English and was very friendly and helpful. I would look elsewhere.

I stayed in Punta Esmeralda so it’s not Leona, but the place we stayed is a long way to go for a vacation spot for middle aged to younger adults. A lot of construction currently but in time I think it could be a nice space. It’s currently overpriced and a car is highly recommended in the area.

Roads in gated resort are very poorly maintained, huge potholes and sections subsided like there were sinkholes underneath ronning across the roads. Room wasn't ready at designated check in time (3pm) and was asked to wait 20+minutes. In first room no hot water and water flooded room from missing plumbing connection (possibly water heater?) during shower. Phone in room didn't work to call reception. Maintenance came to fix clean up the water and told us that the plumbing was a known problem and room should not have been available for use. Was also told by maintenance that they should have told us that phones didn't work while checking in as this was also a known problem. Evening staff at reception was able to get us into another room but it obviously hadn't been used/cleaned recently as there was dust/dirt on floors and countertops.

Beautiful setup in a remote location accessible only by a 1 1/2 hour boat ride. The tree canopy covers the concrete walking paths and the pool has plenty of sun and shade seating areas. The open air bar and restaurant, as well as the pool all have a view of the water. You may even hear howler monkies at night as I did.

It is a decent resort even though quite a few onsite facilities are closed. Some of the bars, disco..... No beach chairs provided. The bar and pool chairs are not very comfortable. The beach itself, is quite nice. Sandy shore and bottom make for easy walking and enjoying. Water is super warm and relatively calm for swimming. Food was mediocre at best. Bar and restaurant service way below par, slow and not very friendly for a resort.. Staff does not seem happy here for what ever reason. Even with the provided "whats app" number it is difficult to reach anyone. Rooms are comfortable enough. They are getting dated but were reasonably clean, with ac and small fridges in them. The rooms we had were about a 10 minute walk away from the main pool and main resort area of the property. They have a shuttle, its service was very erratic. Property is also getting in need of repair of sidewalks and roads there getting pretty rough. A flashlight is handy to have after sunset. Careful if you rent the bikes, brakes are very poor.

Had a awsome stay. Views were amazing as well as the wildlife.

Nice place. Good meals and nice property. Rooms are far from amenities.

Was not what we expected. Rooms were spartan, and we had a bug problem that was never fully taken care of. No night life to speak of and black beach was so so. Restuarant service could have been as the servers were not that attentive as we had seen in restaurants in the towns we visited. Food was very good, but the dinner buffet was over price.
