This place is outstanding for breakfast. If I was rating it on breakfast alone I would give it five stars. The buffet covers all the bases for a Continental breakfast: extremely fresh fruit, great cuts of meat, pastries, you name it. And fresh squeezed orange juice that's pretty great. Also, if you're an American looking for eggs (scrambled or poached) or pancakes with real maple syrup and candied pecans, or cereal, they've got you covered with an outstanding ala carte menu as well. (Also as a bonus they have a great assortment of high quality jams).
The service is also outstanding (at both breakfast and dinner). They are appropriately friendly and attentive. If weather permits and you end up eating on the deck, wow. One of the best restaurant views on San Marco.
My disappointment was with dinner. I'm not saying it was bad, it just wasn't as good as I expected for a place with entrees starting at 59 euros. The beef fillet was slightly tough and more like a roast. Honestly it was off. Maybe it wasn't supposed to be a "filet mignon" but they should be a little more clear about that. Especially with a large American clientele.
My daughter had the cheeseburger which I also sampled. It is really great that they try to make it easy for American kids by offering cheeseburgers and breaded chicken cutlets, but again the cheeseburger execution was really bad. The meat is ground too finely and then packed too tightly. It's like eating a tough meatloaf. The bun was also very tough.
Service, though, was even more attentive than breakfast. The crew was observant and always there to meet your needs.
Because this restaurant is at a nice and very, very expensive hotel, and because we had such a great breakfast experience there, maybe I was expecting too much from the dinner. But I don't think so. If you're going to serve a premium product at premium prices, you have to execute the food flawlessly. My four star rating reflects the deficiencies with the dinner offerings that I tried.
