Well. What can I say...I suppose some of you might think I really have no frame of reference, since this was my first trip ever to the Islands, period. However, let me start out by saying that I have stayed at some pretty pricey hotels, and frankly, this place would get my money every single time over anywhere else I have ever stayed. Period.
We purchased our 5-day vacation through Costco, which I highly recommend you do. We got such a great deal. OK on to the stay... wow... what a stunning, gorgeous place to stay. All I could say was "wow...wow...wow... WOW! This is OUR room??" We were on the 3rd floor in room#315...Full condo, fully stocked kitchen with all amenities, granite countertops, plates, serving dishes, knives, etc etc, huge frig with lots of room for left-overs and freshies ( the fresh produce and fish we bought) micro and full stove. There was ice in the freezer when we got there and a constant supply of fresh ice for the 5 days we stayed.
You walk in the door and are greeted with a nice, long hallway and great artwork. There is a beautifully-carved sea turtle bowl that greets you on the hallway table. Its beautiful. We used it every day to drop change in, hang our leis, and put up pictures from our submarine trip and luau.
We had a 180+ degree view of the ocean. I kid you not. The lanai was 25 feet long and nearly 20 feet deep. We had 4 lounge chairs, and in this little alcove by our room, white wicker chairs with deep comfy pads, and a clear glass table. A white ceiling fan over the table made it perfect for hot summer night dinners.
The room was so perfect, with a huge livingroom, nice bedroom, nice bathroom, and NO BUGS ANYWHERE. I didn't even see a bug period until the day we left. Not even any flies. It was so great that we literally slept with our doors and windows open every night to listen to the ocean waves at night.
The trees by our room gave us perfectly framed sunsets every night. We could look over the lanai into this little cove to the left where the waves would crash up on the beach. It was close enough that with binoculars, we could actually see fingerling fish swimming in the ocean water.
We saw dolphins too. There are orange buoys out to the right, and one day there were 7 spinner dolphins cavorting, swimming, spinning and just having fun by that buoy. Word must have gotten around because at one time there were 3 site-seeing boats and one snorkeling boat out there with the dolphins. There was a para-sailer out there too, and his boater-guy dropped the parasailor guy lower over the dolphins, who started jumping up out of the water. It looked like they were trying to kiss the feet of the parasailers.
OK. GREAT view of the ocean. And the hotel itself was just gorgeous. The grounds are exquisitely kept with hundreds of lush green plants, trees, bushes, and flowers. Flowers were everywhere, and on every level there were rock waterfalls that were surrounded with plants and flowers and palm trees. The walls were decorated with island hieroglyphs of turtles, dolphins, and other sea life. The place is just stunning and gorgeous and so well-maintained. Parking is a breeze, you don't have to walk far to the elevators or you can take the stairs, and even the underground parking lots are decorated with paintings of sea life creatures. VERY cool.
The staff was unparalleled in service, politeness, and the "Aloha" spirit of Hawaii. If you want info on "local" stuff, talk to Keith. He's a real local and a great man with a wealth of "local" info. The other thing I REALLY liked... you don't get room service every day. Are you the kind of person who picks up before the staff come in to pick up? No worries! They don't come unless you ask them! They give you a TON of towels and everything else you need, and a washer-dryer unit to do your own laundry. And yes...I LIKE it that way.
We WILL be back to stay. I liked it so well I told my husband I wanted to buy a place there. I could live there for ever and never miss the mainland. Period. And I mean, buy a place at the Outrigger and live there.
