Oh my word.
Co Couture sounds like it should be an upmarket boutique, but it's actually an upmarket chocolate shop. And boy is it good. Luxurious, expensive, but exceedingly good.
I had accidentally stumbled across this place whilst looking for a restaurant in one of those tourist magazines on Belfast. When I noticed that there was a chocolate shop and factory located on Chichester Street, I was completely dumb-founded. Where, I asked myself, the heck is there a chocolatier on Chichester Street? And why, I further questioned, did I not know about it?!
Curiosity got the better of me, and I went on a mission to find Co Couture. I very nearly didn't find it, simply because it is located in the basement of a multistory building, right beside O'Brien's sandwich bar. Talk about a hidden gem!
The assistant was very pleasant and helpful, informing us that all the chocolate is made on the premises, and they have only been open from December time. That's a whole seven months I hadn't known about this place. Seven months! And this comes from a girl who nearly ate her weight in chocolate whilst holidaying in Brussels. Well, nothing was stopping me from indulging in some more of the gorgeous dark sticky stuff...yum yum yum.
I selected a milk chocolate and honeycomb bar for £2 (yes, I know it's expensive, but what do you expect?), and six little chocolates at 70p each (not a thing I'd do everyday). These six chocolates were transferred into a cute little box, with a bit of gold leaf pressed on top for good measure. I had chosen two dark (72% cocoa is just about right for me), two milk and two orange. And they were all scrum-diddly-umptious. The milk chocolate literally melts in the mouth, and has a delicious malt texture to it. The dark chocolate is perfectly dark, and the orange was just delicious.
Perfect for a treat, or a gift, Co Couture's award-winning chocolates are seriously first-class. I know where I'll be heading the next time I'm feeling down...
Better start saving first mind you.
