REVIEW N.

I’ll start with a **review-ninja disclaimer** 🥷🍜:
I ate lunch many times at **the original Lunch Lady’s stall in Saigon**—right off the street, straight from the kettle. So yes, my bar is high.
For those unfamiliar, this restaurant is named after **Nguyễn Thị Thành**, affectionately known as *“The Lunch Lady.”* For years, she ran a simple street-side setup in Saigon, serving **one rotating soup per day**, each with deep regional roots. She built a loyal following among locals and expats alike (myself included), and later gained international fame after being featured on **Anthony Bourdain’s *No Reservations***. Fame changed her life—some for the better, some not.
👒 **Context matters:**
This Hong Kong location is **not the original stall**. It’s a polished, mall-based interpretation—essentially a tribute to her covered street-corner legacy. I went in wanting to be fair, but it’s hard not to compare when you’ve eaten the real thing straight from the source.
🍜 **What they serve:**
* Bánh mì sandwiches (interestingly, she never actually sold bánh mì herself, others nearby did)
* A selection of her well-known Vietnamese soup dishes
🍜 Taste:
Let’s be realistic, replicating authentic Vietnamese flavors abroad is hard, especially without access to the same raw ingredients. That said, the soups here are "good", and honestly "better than I expected". Still, they don’t quite reach the depth and intensity of the originals.
The Bún Bò Huế, in particular, falls short of true authenticity. It’s missing the coagulated pork blood, which is a critical component of the dish. Without it, the flavor profile just isn’t complete—authenticity takes a hit there.
📍 Location & access:
* Pacific Place Mall, Level 1, Shop 123
* Easy access via MTR Admiralty Station, or bus to 88 Queensway
👒 Bottom line:
If you’ve never eaten at the original Lunch Lady stall in Saigon, you’ll likely enjoy this place—it’s solid Vietnamese food in a very convenient location.
If you have eaten from her kettle on a Saigon side street, this will feel like a respectful—but inevitably softened—interpretation.
🍜👒 Worth a visit, just manage expectations. If you want to try authentic Bún Bò Huế, I recommend visiting one of the VIetnamese resturants in the local area, most a family owned and appreciate the business. Try to find one that specializes in "Central Viet Nam' Cuisine", Bún Bò Huế is a product of Central Viet Nam, not Saigon
