Steaks are good. My wife and my daughter took the sirloin and they loved it. I took the smoked slow cooked beef brisket (specialty of the house) and it was chewy as rubber. I asked to have a different main and the staff dealt with it nicely and professionally. Deserts are definitely not a strength here (at least, not by French standards). Atmosphere is pretty cozy and the live music bar, at the ground level, it is a plus.

Good food, good vibes, . Very delicious salmon appetizer, tender steak, and tasty ribs. Would’ve been a five start. BUT losing one star for luke warm entrées; they only have two servers for about 20 tables so probably not enough staff to be bringing the food out just as they come out of the kitchen - what a pity as the food are delicious. Losing another star for pressuring us to tip, at the checkout counter, twice we were asked “do you want to tip us”, and they looked at how much you tip as you tip... this left a very sour taste to the whole experience. What a pity.

Decent food. My wife had the eggs Benedict which were great but my pancakes weren't that nice. Bacon wasn't crispy which is what you would expect with pancakes.

Really good food! They also offered lunch menu options until about 5pm. We were very happy with their (new) menu and would absolutely go back.

Quite a gem with a great interior, quick service, and delicious food (specifically breakfast and lunch). In an area littered with over-hyped tourist traps, Coalfire provided an amazing respite.

WOW. Simply beautiful food that I'd happily go back for. Highly recommend the Captains Pit Platter for 2, plenty to eat and you get to try a bit of everything. Go here!

Went to this restaurant twice with wifey. Both times during off peak hours and food was great, service was great, drink was good. Thought their price was cheaper than those we went to in Christchurch and menu (the grills) was really what we liked. Our waiter/ host Matt first day we went was wonderful and friendly.

Yelp
A basic touristy lunch spot in the middle of Queenstown city center. When it's a nice day, you can sit on the patio and do a little people watching. The lunch menu and beer options are slightly limited, so take a look online before walking over. The food is fair; good quality ingredients, but slight execution errors that prevent you from enjoying. The mussels were good, with the white wine and garlic broth being excellent. The haloumi salad was okay, but nothing to rave about. The chips were greasy and not flavorful. There are several better options for lunch, so it's probably not worth going here unless you really like the look of any items on the menu.

Yelp
The Coalfire restaurant that I experienced was upstairs from the bar, and it was a high-end casual steak place that served very good food. The standout to me was the amazing fries with paprika. The restaurant was a bit fancier than I expected -- white tablecloths, soft music, a wealth of utensils, and such -- with the prices to match. (The bar downstairs looked like a more casual feeling spot that had excellent live music. We followed the signs to the restaurant, however, and chose to stay once we were upstairs.) The staff was friendly, but the pacing (and catching their attention when needed) seemed slow to me.

Yelp
As a local I must say, the food was amazing and the best service I've had around the world. Cassie c was awesome and I've never felt more welcome in my life. I'll be coming back soon!

Yelp
Surprisingly delicious bbq. We had the sampler platter for 2 plenty of food for 3 adults and a child for lunch. Chicken and brisket and mac and cheese were standouts

Yelp
This was a very disappointing dining experience. We ordered pork ribs, chicken burger, pulled pork and mash for 3 people. Pork ribs had not been cooked for long enough and were tough and chewy with a lot of fat. Chicken burger was ok, very saucy and sloppy. Pulled pork and mash were so, so bland. Food lacked flavour and seasoning. We were looking forward to trying this restaurant but we won't be back.

Yelp
Cool looking place and everything we had was extremely delicious! Raw oysters, seafood chowder, ribs with house made BBQ sauce and chips. Highly recommend.
