Most hotels in the Philippines, even “5 star” ones are pathetic - robotic, unempathetic service, seemingly solid concrete mattresses, awful food. ||Coast is an incredibly wonderful opposite to all of this! It should be a benchmark example for other PH hotels to emulate…||Memory foam mattress and lovely feather pillows - check!|Really thoughtful service - check!|Fantastic airport transfer, no extra charge - check! (this alone is a big win)|Comfortable aircon (even cold in the middle of tropical summer if you want it!) - check!|Friendly towel guy waiting for you as you come out of the ocean - delightful!|Decent Western-style food, especially the fish and chips! - check! (I don’t normally do breakfast buffets, but I recommend their Shakshuka)||I only had two disappointments, and only one of these is under the hotel’s control:|1. Boracay Station 2 beachfront is full of hawkers, who will hassle you even if you’re sitting at the hotel bar. Walking down the beach in this area becomes irritating quickly. So catch an e-trike up to Diniwid beach for your out of hotel beach time.||2. The pool is lovely, but when full of screaming children, makes sleeping in the daytime impossible (even on level 3, in the rooms). Despite a “no horseplay” sign on the pool, such civility is not enforced by the hotel, and parents these days don’t have the good manners to control their children. There was one day with literally 3 hours of incessant high pitched screaming. Since every room in the hotel faces the pool, the noise is unavoidable. ||@Coast: please think about how you can level up on the pool noise control!||Special shout-out to Tricia, who very sweetly orchestrated a birthday surprise chocolate ganache cake, gorgeous decorations, balloons, and the obligatory Filipino “happy birthday” song for my wife’s special day. If only there were more hotel staff in the Philippines like the Tricia and the other fine people at Coast!!
