Coastal Cookery

There's nothing that really separates this place from other places in town for the atmosphere, it's nice, don't get me wrong. The patio is ocean view, however it's on a back alley so you get a lot of ambient noise of trucks unloading cargo and such, not the worst experience ever though. It was fairly busy and not enough staff apparently for the amount of people, things we slow even to get seated initially, they were all very polite and apologetic for the inconvenience. The food was extremely quick to come out though! like we were shocked actually. And WOW we were impressed right to the last bite. My wife even went so far as to say that it may have been the best burger she had ever had...EVER? apparently so! I would venture to guess we caught them on a lunch rush and would like to come here again, besides the lull in service everything was great!

We had lunch today during our overnight visit to Powell River. It was truly delicious. I had the veggie burger which I highly recommend. The salad and fries were great as accompaniments. We shared the homemade hummus and everyone else had wings which they raved about, we always stop in when we come here. Never disappointed! Thank you.

As someone who grew up in Powell River when dining options were few, and fine dining was almost nonexistent, it is nice to return home and visit good rooms like Coastal Cookery. Great views and a uniquely decorated restaurant. Service was great and dinner was excellent. I particularly liked the salad and the apple dessert.

Our server here was super nice and attentive. The restaurant has a small but nice balcony, or there is ac if you prefer inside seating. A group of us came during happy hour, which was actually a decent sized menu! The bellinis on happy hour were really good, and they also had a drink that consisted of gin, soda, and bellini slush. The food was okay. I had the smash burger with half fries and half salad. I really liked the fries because they were super crispy and fresh, and the salad was tasty and healthy. But I thought that the burger was too salty, and I felt like it was missing something. Maybe adding something sweet like a bacon jam would have been perfect? My friends had the cod burger. It was a decent sized portion but there was barely any tartar sauce, so we had to ask for a side of it and add it ourselves. The cod itself was good though! The brussels sprouts were on happy hour and were nice and crispy but I think they had too much parmesan on top!

My girlfriends and I went there last night. The food was great and with a good portion. We arrived there around 5:30, and there was no wait. By the time we were leaving, it was like a long line up there. I recommend you make reservations if you go for dinner. The servers were friendly there. We had a great experience last night.

Thank you so much to the staff at Coastal for accommodating my friends and I several times throughout the last 2 weeks while we were in town for a classical music camp and festival. The food and drinks were always incredible and you guys went above and beyond regularly to make sure we were taken care of. I really appreciate your patience and kindness every time we came in!

Everything about our visit was fantastic—the food, the staff, and the atmosphere. I really enjoyed the ambiance and highly recommend trying a meal here while in Powell River.

My son brought me here for an amazing Mother's Day dinner. The food was excellent, the staff were friendly and attentive, and I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. Great job!

Absolutely a wonderful place to unwind after a long day of traveling. The Shanghai Bowl was perfect for the cool weather and the bear went down smooth. Service was great. Everyone checks on in you, not just your server. Pleasant, calm atmosphere and beautiful view of the river.

Great service and a gorgeous view. Food was really great. I had ling cod fish and chips and it was delicious. All in all a nice dining experience

Stopped in for Happy Hour and we ended up getting Appy's and a main plus a few drinks. House white right now is from Fitzpatrick in the Okanagan which was good. For Appy's we got the Poutine and BBQ Chicken bites that had a bit of a Korean Gojijan flavour which we enjoyed. They gave us the creamy parm dip on the side that was sooooo good and I finished it with the fries that came with the burger, lol. We also got a Smash burger which was excellent and the Cod burger was fantastic, nice size piece of fish! Also tried the root beer in a bottle that was sooooo good. Our server was fantastic and so nice.

Congratulation to Powell River for the upscale eatery. The ribs were amazing. We were a table of five. The tuna stack was also amazing. Regrettable we were not even offered a desert menu so we left without tasting any treats. Couple of friends did not enjoy meals. Fish and chips wish dry fish, could not eat. Mashed potatoes and fresh vegetable were much better than fries,

Beautiful atmosphere especially if you have a table on the balcony overlooking the beautiful water. The waiter and hostess were very friendly and we were able to try a few samples of beer before making our selection. We all enjoyed our food. Out of the four dishes I though the lettuce cups and the laksa bowl were the best! The laksa bowl had so much flavor I would definitely order it again. We also had no wait at all as we made a reservation ahead of time, which I would recommend it. It was a pretty busy place.

Neat place with some great views if you sit outdoors. All of the four dishes that we ordered were soli. My fish and chips were battered perfect in a light batter that didn't take away from the fish flavor. Good service and an attentive waiter made the meal more enjoyable.

Cool place with a great view and great food and friendly staff Appetizers were great - had Brussels Sprouts and their Ahi stack both were great - Laksa bowl needed salt then was really good and the waffle sandwich was good but not the dream it sounds like it'd be - maple syrup maybe would've blown it out of the park. Definitely will come back again next time I'm near

Everything about this place is excellent minus the service today. Maybe it was an off day but the server forgot our drink order 3 times. Not overly busy but seemed a bit off. Cute place, excellent food options, and gorgeous views. We ordered the pretzel (fresh artisan pretzel, creamy garlic parmesan, yellow mustard) and it was warm and buttery. The garlic parm dip was an excellent pairing option. I also got the Beurre Blanc Mac & Cheese (Smoked cheddar, white wine butter sauce, crispy bacon) - no bacon. Very creamy and cheesy but not smokey. Also, they charged for hot sauce. For dessert, the Vanilla Cheesecake (Sea salt, espresso crème anglaise, and cocoa nib brittle). Out of this world! Hands down one of the best treats I've ever had! Loved the food! The service was a bit off but I would totally come back again!!

Ocean view and good service food is very good Has a good happy hour. vibrant crowd. up the butt chicken is the best.

So good I came here twice during my trip! Loved the chop salad and also the beet burger! They have a diverse menu with something for everyone and there were still more things I want to get next time. Drinks were good as well and there was quite a variety including a few non- alcoholic versions. Oh and the bread pudding is worth it!

One of the few restaurants on this strip that was actually opened for lunch. Many of the other restaurants don't open until 3-4pm, this was also on a Sat. We were able to sit outside overlooking the sea view. The menu selection was varied and plenty to choose from. I had the salad with chicken which was excellent and my husband had the salmon burger. Both were very tasty.

I came here with a colleague and even though it was busy our server greeted us immediately and got our orders started. The food was very good and fairly priced. This is a nice spot near the water with an amazing view.

The patio has a great view. I had the wild mushroom rigatoni. It was spectacular. Ordered a takeout of the same dish for my wife and she was of the same view. While I can't say whether any of the other things on the menu are even close to the rigatoni, I would come back for this dish alone in a heartbeat.

Great view, incredible cocktails, good food! Watched whales breaching from the deck it was surreal.

Visited on a sunny warm Friday evening just before happy hour ended. Sat on the patio with a view of the strait. Sipped on a turmeric spritzer and a happy hour beer ($5, reg $6) and saw many whale blows as we waited for our meals. Food arrived quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed my delicious Buddha bowl while hubby devoured his mac & cheese (subbed bacon for capers at no charge). Wait staff were friendly and attentive. Yummy and beautiful setting. We got a few dishes to share for a late lunch. Good mocktails too.

We came yesterday evening for a goodbye dinner for one of our friends. We were sat and three different waitresses walked past us with no acknowledgement, other then a glance as they walked by to bring drinks to the two tables that arrived after us. After 25 minutes, we walked out. Nobody bothered to even acknowledge us as we left. They all just stared at us. Will not be returning. Please teach your staff to actually do their jobs. Went down the street to Monks and had a lovely meal and service.

This restaurant is the definition of stuck up. The staff treat you as an inconvenience and they are so misguided by their own ego that they refuse to change or update the menu in any meaningful way. With prices so high and a staff so uncaring is it any wonder that people are flocking to the much smaller but much friendlier and more original Monks on marine. So done with "coastal"

We come to Powell River quite often to visit one of our sisters but have never tried this restaurant. We in fact ordered a meal for our sister to be picked up on Christmas Eve last year but she missed the closing time of Coastal Cookery so never received it. Last night the restaurant did not hesitate to honour a gift card that had already been fulfilled (but not picked up), which speaks to the way the owners and staff run this business. And then we had an outstanding meal in a lovely surrounding - definitely the best meal we have had in Powell River and we have tried dozens over the last decade or so visiting our sister. And lots of interesting options - squid, duck, amazing soup with a toasted cheese sandwich. Highly recommend this place - we will certainly be back very soon. Worth the trip to Powell River alone!

After a morning of hiking I came in for some lunch and a beer or three. Mala my server was amazing and friendly. I ordered the Humbolt calamari and the Da Burger. Both were perfection. I can't recommend this restaurant enough.

Amazing food An service . I can't remember the name of the burger it was the beef an bacon one. Honestly one of the best made burgers I've had in a long time. Also amazing Cesar's the double Cesar comes with a piece of jerky witch was a nice touch.

One of the best spots in Powell River, great food and vibe. our server Leena was fantastic and friendly!

Mashed potatoes which came with the beered chicken tasted stale. Ling cod with black Thai rice was very dry. Same with the chicken bites.

A sophisticated eatery with a waterfront view and a great ambiance I was driving, and hence not drinking alcohol, but their bar selections looked great (single malt scotches, etc.). I had the short-rib sliders and a root beer (good driving food), but felt like I was the exception - most folks were settled in for a leisurely and fancy brunch. I'll definitely stop when I'm in town again. It's fancy without being too formal. A great place for drinks, brunch or dinner.

This is what you get from Coastal Cookery in Powell River people. ABSOLUTELY disgusting and to top it off she made it seem like she was doing me a FAVOR by taking it off the bill. Give me a break. The whole bill should have been covered and some apologies maybe would have been a good start. That burger was still walking around.

Coastal cookery is well located with a fine view over the town marina. It's a stylish place and the staff are all very friendly, attentive and helpful. We sat on the balcony (more in a minute) and ordered what amounted to fish and chips. The fish, ling cod, was beautifully prepared, fresh and fried in a light crispy batter. The fries were excellent and the assorted bits which came with it were all high quality. The food, the people and the restaurants in British Columbia all seem to be absolutely first rate. Coastal Cookery was no exception. Our only complaint was that this is a noisy restaurant. We had to be moved to the balcony because the noise inside was almost unbearable. There are lots of reflective surfaces in the restaurant and nothing to dampen sound. Man, it's loud! But the food was wonderful and we would certainly go back, perhaps with ear plugs.

Great food. I had the sticky chicken rice bowl and it was awesome. All of the staff made us feel welcome and we're amazing hosts. Keep up the good work and I will definitely be back

This is our go-to place for breakfast when our best friends drop in from out of town. Diverse menu, well prepared and presented meals. Pleasant service and relaxed, slightly eclectic atmosphere make this a regular on our list.

Stopped in for lunch and had the sticky rice chicken bowl... very good! A little spice to take things up a notch with tender chicken and a mix of veggies that went perfectly. The view is very nice!! Can't go wrong there. It was busy, noise was a bit more than moderate - call it very lively. Would love to have dinner here one night. Next time I am in town I will be back for sure. Enjoy!

Good food, I had the waffle chicken burger which is out of my element but was so delicious. Probably the best chicken burger I have ever had.

Impressed by their menu and service options. Very attentive folks and we were about 20 people and our server did very well. Great food quality had a bowl, 83 year old Aunty had the chicken and waffle combo and left nothing behind. We are Vancouver residents and didn't expect to have such options of healthy dining. Would definitely recommend and I want to go back to try more options. Thank you.

Nice place great atmosphere used to be my abosijte favourite but consistent food here I used to get is slowly fading, portions are often way off but is overall pretty good, last year Inwoukd have given 4.5 instead of 3. Also need more wing options your a bar/pub/lounge people like wings lol. With more than two options

Small but excellently curated and executed menu. This food will not disappoint! The service we received was second to non; the staff was especially kind and understanding with our teenage daughter who has ASD and suffers a great deal with mealtimes. We wholeheartedly recommend coastal cookery!

Love this place! It's open late. It has a cool hipster vibe. They serve local and craft brews. Ocean views. I ordered a townside (local) blonde ale and a beef short ribs. Both were great! Highly recommend. Minus one star cause the location wasn't accurate.

Happened to come across this place as nothing was open on a Monday night. Am I glad I did!! Drinks were great! Asian Sweet n Sticky Wings were a great flavor and serving. Entree of beer can chicken was awesome ( slight copy of cactus club dish). None the less, worth trying. Bourbon Pecan Galette for dessert!!! Incredible!! Don't think I will be eating anywhere else when visiting

Well as luck would have it, my little Atom Rep hockey player had to return to Powell River for league semifinals and final championship game. The initial response of all of our parents when told we had to go to Powell River for a second time in less than 3 months, was one of dismay, anger, frustration, terror and revulsion. However, in very short order, our thoughts turned to Coastal Cookery! Lustful memories of delicious and sensual gastronomical delights, great service and beautiful servers filled our hearts and induced an overwhelming Pavlovian response -- excessive salivating, facial flushing and increased heart rate! We would return to again experience the nirvana known as Coastal Cookery! As anticipated, it did not disappoint. While I briefly considered the fried chicken and waffle sandwich, my visceral memories of the multiple Foodgasms experienced on my last visit from the salmon burger, compelled me to order it once again. Would a return to the well such a short time later provide the same fulfillment and satisfaction as the first visit? Thankfully yes! If anything, dare I say, this salmon burger and fresh cut fries experience may have been even better than the first! The intensity of the Foodgasms was unmatched. The most exquisite and perfect salmon burger I've ever experienced! Absolutely delicious! Cooked to perfection -- not over cooked, moist in the middle and perfectly generously sized! This salmon filet has some junk in the trunk! With a beautifully matched coleslaw topping and brioche bun! Pure ecstasy! The fries were also amazing. Freshly cut and cooked to a crisp tender in the middle, yet not greasy, state of perfection. Service was once again exemplary. Our waitress was friendly, efficient, professional, personable and very attractive. Our meals were served within 15 minutes of placing our orders, despite the restaurant being very busy. Had a couple of townside blond ales with the meal, which were also very good. In addition, we had the privilege of experiencing a beautiful sunset from the dining room. Well done Coastal Cookery! The citizenry of Powell River should consider themselves very lucky to have such a fine establishment to dine, imbibe and enjoy such beautiful scenery at.

Love the food, drink options, friendly staff and west coast feel of this restaurant. Always a popular spot. I realized last visit that any other similar type restaurant I have been to has music so loud you can't think and I appreciate that this is not the case. Great spot to stop for a night out!

We have been here a lot and the food and service is consistently good. It's cactus club inspired. We really like the servers and the owners and they have 2 other restaurants Costa Del Sol for authentic Mexican and Cullacinos for higher end Italian (limited seating in both)

My favorite place in Powell River! Love the food! Great beverages. The view is incredible too. Super close to the ferry so if you're waiting get a craft beer or cider with a great meal. Oh , and the staff are awesome, just to top it all off!!!

One of the best restaurants in Powell river. The beer chicken tasted great and the barbecue sauce complimented well with its right amount of sweetness. The macaroni and cheese was also made well, although the cod tasted a bit bland.

Went there for lunch and had the Duck/chicken clubhouse with some type of raspberry sauce....it was soooooo goooood! My gal had the Thai curry rice bowl, which was very good but that duck sandwich was the bomb!! Service was excellent and very good value.

The food was delicious and the service was great!! Taylor was really nice and made sure we ordered all the good food!! Great seating in the back patio! Had the poutine, Brussels sprouts, sliders, Mac and cheese, green salad. All of them were top drawer!!

This place is nice inside the food is not bad the menu could be bigger for entree's. The waitresses and host are wonderful, only thing if you find something wrong with your meal - DONT send it back as you will have the manager come out and embarrass you and tell you about starving children in the world because you sent it back. They don't take criticism very well as if you criticize any of their food good or bad you may get banned from the restaurant, as I was for saying my Salmon burger tasted a little off.

I was pretty excited to see a new place hit Powell Dam, I mean River. My husband is from this adorable town, so I have visited enough to know that pickings are slim if you are wanting a nice restaurant experience WITH good food. We were a party of four and seated immediately. All the workers were super friendly. We were all very happy with our meal, all very tasty. I got the quinoa sliders, probably should be named, mini-quinoa sliders. Luckily I am a tiny human that does not require much food to function so it was fine, but for what you are paying + lack of sides (as in... there are none), it was a bit of bummer to pay THAT much. The menu is diverse so you will have many reasons to come back. I hope this place makes it. It looks great downtown and offers something Powell River was missing. So good luck Coastal Cookery. I will look for you when we return to PR!

Went here for dinner and it was so good!! Had the Brussel sprouts to start and then the beer can chicken. The sprouts were roasted and charged to perfection and the chicken was juicy and pan seared on one side to give you some amazing crispy skin!! This place is a must visit when in Powell River. Great food, great wine and great service!!!

Great view of the water and islands. I had the ling cod with rice and asparagus . Excellent fish with nice flaky texture. Friendly atmosphere and great service in a really isolated area.

A great find in Powell River. Beautiful views and delicious food. The Mac and cheese, brussel sprouts and lettuce wraps were all highlights. Local craft beer and good cocktails. Definitely worth a stop.

Delious definitely a place to stop for a late lunch or dinner great drinks and food it's a journey to amazing places. It's a must stop!
