Coastal Frozen Yogurt

Good news! We found today one of our favourite places - opened! With longer hours of operating...and not only this. My son's favourite vegan frozen yougurt - guava - was avaiable! And more.. now you can taste not only ice cream and frozen yougurts but also you can grab a cup of hot coffee/latte!

My favorite ice cream shop in the Rockaways! Just a block off the boardwalk for an easily accessible snack after working up a sweat after some biking. Amazing ice cream and froyo, a variety of fresh toppings and incredibly friendly staff- dropping into Coastal is sure to brighten even the sunniest of summer days!

BE AWARE!!! This is my last method as they haven’t replied to my email and there was no working phone number to reach this establishment, before I wrote this review to discuss a serious incident that happened at their establishment yesterday. My daughter and I came by yesterday and as the location has plenty of dairy free, nut free, and vegan option, we felt comfortable coming to grab ice cream for my daughter who has a severe allergy to dairy and peanuts. There’s a sign written at the cashier that says “ Let us know about your allergies,” in which I reiterated the severity of my child’s allergy to dairy and nuts and asked for options that did not include any of the allergens. The cashier advised that the vegan chocolate was safe to eat and I asked her again to double check the ingredients and I saw her physically pick up the ice cream and check and she said this is the vegan chocolate without dairy or nuts. I proceeded to ask her again what the base was and to please use a clean scooper and she said coconut. My daughter took one bite of the ice cream and her complete mouth was swollen, not knowing if she was going into anaphylactic shock I called 911 and the EMS/ fire dept arrived where she started throwing up profusely and was taking straight to the ER. After taking Benadryl to decrease the swelling I went back to ask the cashier again to see the ingredients in the ice cream she gave my daughter and low and behold the “vegan” chocolate she gave my daughter had calcium lactaid, which is dairy. I’m livid that the staff wasn’t trained to know the differences and which ice creams on hand are not “vegan” or “dairy free” or “nut free” especially since this is something they advertise. I write this concerned that these situations are really serious and I don’t want another parent of person to have to endure a scary situation in an establishment that doesn’t take their needs seriously as this could have been more extreme. Dietary restrictions are serious for children and people like my daughter and if this is something they are not properly training their staff, other customers should be made aware. Sadly, hiring staff that doesn’t know what is considered dairy free, let alone vegan is something I put at fault of the owner to do better. I will be reporting this situation immediately.

They clearly didn’t want my money that day. I came in and not a single acknowledgement good afternoon hi I’ll be with you shortly nothing. I figured the girl there at the time didn’t see me but she did, I stood at the register for a while and waited and she kept on doing what she was doing. At that point I didn’t think it was worth buying here so I left.

Good stuff, gotta start using bigger cups for froyo though. They over Packed way too much into a small cup and i couldn't eat it faster than it melted everywhere.. thinking ahead woulda been smart and giving a big cup to catch the melting froyo woulda been really nice.. food for thought!

DON’T ORDER THE DAIRY FREE ICE CREAM! I ordered a medium cup of Dairy Free vanilla ice cream and it was 0/10 just terrible. Paying $8+ for something that tasted nothing close to vanilla or ice cream was such a waste of money. It tasted like cardboard and had the same color too. I didn’t taste any vanilla at all and it just didn’t taste like ice cream. Also on the menu for toppings it said they had mochi and dairy free whipped cream but when I asked for those toppings I was told for mochi they only had green tea mochi (maybe advertise that then?) and they also said they don’t sell dairy free whipped cream even though the menu next to them literally had it. After a hot day at the beach I just wanted to treat myself to a cold sweet treat but I took 2 bites and threw it out because it was a waste and I couldn’t force myself to finish it.

An adorable family place! The staff as always happy and ready to serve! Simple flavors which means simple decisions! Come before 5 and your able to get a small cup for even cheaper the price!

Coastal, frozen yogurt is a perfect place for a sweet treat after a day on the beach. My friend and I happen to wander in because I was craving ice cream, and it was lovely. I'm lactose intolerant so I tried their dairy free coffee ice cream, which was just OK. I felt like it was a little bit on the sour side, but I think I should've just sucked it up and gotten the real ice cream. My friend got the vanilla honeycomb ice cream, which was honestly incredible. The sugar cones were also great, and I really liked the drip catchers that were included. The prices were reasonable, and they have a wide selection of flavors. Their dairy free options probably aren't the best, but if you are amenable to dairy, they have a great selection.

The flavors are so fun and they make some of them in house locally! I got the pb&j ice cream topped with a tart froyo. It was the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and tang! The employee was nice and there was no line on a Sunday afternoon. There are places to sit inside with a nice vibe or you can go the beach or the park across the street to enjoy it on a hot day.

Delicious ice cream and they served us even close to closing time. Would return it was excellent.

Just love this local "GEM" - lovely staff and absolutely delicious ice cream.....and as a plus, the interior is absolutely adorable.....reminiscent of the ice cream parlors of old!

Stopped by while walking around the Rockaways. Had vanilla ice cream with chocolate sprinkles on a cone. Fun little shop. Service was quick and friendly.

Try their Carmel whiskey ice cream. Even the smallest size was enough for the two of us! Great price, and fun flavors. A lot of their toppings/ flavors seemed to be out of stock by the night, so I would come here early!

love their ice cream and their froyo! I love their stuff and their choises of deserts. I love the people that work there and the place is really modern and cool. 10/10 must try again

Nice shop with superior. Every time I'm in rockaway I make a point to stop by. Last 2 times I went I had the Shore Front Strangler sundae. So good. Ice cream is fantastic and they have a wide variety of toppings. People who work there are super friendly and helpful. If you are over there highly recommended.

My Daughter Brianna's favorite Frozen Yogurt Parlor !!! So me and my 2 daughters decided to go and get some goodies, it look so Beautiful from the outside and so Welcoming . As soon as we walked inside WOW !!! It looks Amazing , it was like I was Surfing on top of a wave of colorful yogurt, they have a self serving yogurt in the ROCKAWAYS and they have some Amazing and Delicious flavors and so many types of unique toppings and syrups. We were having so much fun and we haven't seat down and have one spoon yet. WOW !!! So fresh, so creamy, top notch ingredients and so delicious... We really had an Awesome time , will definitely coming back .

This place is really great, and a nice addition to the neighborhood. Went on a Saturday evening and they were fast and the foyo was delicious. Will definitely be going back.

Great selection of frozen yogurts and toppings. The lady that runs the shop is a sweetheart very welcoming and pleasant. Def a neighborhood gem!

Perfect place to cool off after a visit to the beach! Great selection of frozen yogurt and some soft serve as well- loads of toppings to choose from. Price is average for city/beach. Perfect for after a walk around town or some time at the beach. A/c was so cold and refreshing and frozen yogurt really hit the spot. Squeaky clean and friendly staff.

Place has changed, no more self serve froyo , because of COVID , because having 20 people standing shoulder to shoulder waiting for service in a tiny area is so "safe". I don't know if it changed ownership or not, but it seems to be a disaster now. Real bummer.

Great ice cream and even better tart froyo! Tart to just the right amount but still creamy. Nikki was super helpful and gave great recommendations! Definitely a place I'm returning to!

Has good vegan options! They used the brand "Mud" for my chocolate ice cream cup with date syrup

Coastal is just amazing. I got chocolate ice cream and hot fudge and it was the best was so good. Im definitely going back tomorrow. They have a very large variety of ice cream and froyo flavors, as well as toppings. I need to go back asap. The place is super bright and nice inside. I totally recommend Coastal if you want some really good hard or soft serve, froyo, or just a place to keet up with your friends and have a treat. So good I completely recommend.

Delicious / refreshing / the best decision you'll make all day. They also have hyercolor temperature sensitive color changing spoons - ah-mazing. They have lots of hard ice cream flavors including my friend's favorite the Cookie Monster (blue ice cream with Oreos and chips ahoy cookies). I loved the tart self-serve frozen yogurt & toppings! Perfect way to end a perfect beach day.

I cannot give a fro-yo place 5 stars - I reserve the fifth star for gelato places. With that said, Coastal Frozen Yogurt has lots of good flavor options and toppings. My go-to is the cheesecake flavor topped with berries. A great way to end a day at the beach!

I love me some self serve frozen yogurt and this brand spankin new place is the perfect spot to get a handle on?! Haha! Simple selection but all the 'right' flavors and all the toppings you can want. The owners had their friends from the neighbor in to say hi and check out the place. Ambiance: casual with limited seating but bright, clean, and new! Staff: Super friendly and warm! Welcomed us as we entered and encouraged us to come back soon! Only thing is parking in the area is tight but double parking for a few minutes will get you some worthwhile after beach frozen yogurt!!!

Honestly, while their frozen yogurt is good (especially the peanut butter flavor), I don't think it's any better than any other frozen yogurt spot. I think this place deserves 5 stars because of their staff. They're incredibly professional, friendly, and hardworking. My husband and I were in there the other day and one of the employees started up a conversation with us about the neighborhood. I thought it was great how personable she was. The place is clean and has an overall welcoming environment. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys frozen yogurt, and I will definitely be back.

The only complaint I have about them is that they aren't open year round! We miss you guys in the winter! Always friendly and clean, a great place to grab some froyo.

This spot has both yummy ice cream and flavorful frozen yogurt. The yogurt shop is clean, bright and reasonably priced with plenty of toppings available too!

They have great flavors and a variety of toppings. The place is quite and clean, a great spot to come cool off and eat something cold after spending the day at the beach. I had the plain flavor with strawberry and blueberry topping and it was great. Come in a try this cute little frozen yogurt place you won't be disappointed.

Coastal Frozen Yogurt is great to end your day at the beach. We were walking to catch the ferry to Wall Street when we saw a sign with an ice cream on it. We walked down the street and went inside. They have unique flavors of ice cream such as birthday cake or Nutella and then frozen yogurt. I had cookies and cream and country vanilla frozen yogurt which was delicious. They had lots of different toppings that really finished the frozen yogurt off (I had crushed KitKats). There was no one in the shop when we arrived but by the time we had paid, 4 more people had come in to the shop. We will definitely be coming back!

What an adorable spot. They have a nice variety of frozen yogurts and toppings to chose from. Today I tried vanilla, strawberry cheesecake and passion/guava/orange. It was amazing! Really refreshing on a hot day like today. The shop has a cool beach vibe which I like. I don't know if she was the owner or not but there was a nice lady working along side a young man. Both very sweet. The shop is clean and organized. Not like some places where people mix up the toppings and it's spilled all over the place. Dont know why I've only been here twice since I live so close by. I highly recommend this place.

Super cute place, super clean and owners are so wonderful. They definitely take pride in their shop. Always difference flavors of yogurt and toppings and they prices are so reasonable, they do not overcharge here like the other yogurt places we've been to. Best frozen yogurt on Rockaway! I use to go to the one on Beach 129th, but found them to be incredibly rude and dirty. Never felt welcomed in their shop. I was skeptic at first to go past Beach 116, but was pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere is very family friendly, as well as, a great place for anyone really, teens, adults, and seniors! It's, by far, one of the cleanest ice cream places I've been to in Rockaway too. Came in about a week ago Sunday night when they had just closed (9pm, I believe) and the young gentlemen working was very kind, letting me and my niece pick up some yogurt for the family, even got me toppings that they had put away prior. Love the staff! A+ It's in a beautiful area, block from the boardwalk, perfect for beach goers like myself. Can't wait to come in more often!! Highly recommend to everyone in Rockaway looking for an A+ ice cream establishment.

Stopped by after eating at Happy Jacks for dessert. Hidden yogurt Shop . There's seating . Friendly staff , clean, tons of toppings & favors. Stop in for a treat.

A frozen yogurt shop has been much-needed on the Rockaway peninsula... This place does not disappoint! They provide a great deal of funky flavors... One interesting flavor I saw was cereal.. And for those less experimental tasters, they provide you with your typical chocolate and vanilla flavors too. A lot of great toppings to choose from as well! I'm ecstatic that this is a self-serve shop, so that I can determine my portion size myself. The staff is also very kind and helpful... Will definitely be stopping by a bit!

I love this yogurt spot! I found it when it started getting cold, but idc I am visiting often!

We just had lunch and my partner and I we're looking for icecream. I looked down the block and saw this cute sign hanging. We were greeted by a lovely polite girl. The yogurt is the best tasting I ever had. I really love the fact that there were dividers to separate my 3 selections of yogurt. The new York cheesecake tasted like no other yogurt I have had, as were the country vanilla and pistachio. Everything was clean and on point. I will definitely be stopping by again. Oh and those punch cards are the best.

If you are visiting Rockaway Beach, you have to stop here for some awesome frozen yogurt. The staff is amazing and all very nice( not to mention EZ on the eyes ;) . Many awesome flavors and toppings to choose from. You won't be disappointed and you'll definitely be coming back soon again!
