Great Coffee and Pastries. The Renfrew Fog was so foamy and not overly sweetened, and the cappuccino was super smooth. As for pastries -- Greek Yogurt and Cherry SLAPS and the peanut butter chocolate bar was delicious. Super cozy space and nice merch from local artists. Would love to come back again :)

Cozy home made food in this laid back, traveller friendly cafe. I had their chili and cornbread and it was delicious. Also offers a small selection of local merch including stickers and t-shirts. Beautiful sitting area in a garden behind the kitchen. Fun decor. Note they only open during the day.

We came here 3 times in the 4 days we stayed in Port Renfrew. Great coffee and tea selections. Yummy light fare for breakfast (they have these breakfast sandwiches with local bacon that are so good). NANAIMO BARS!

Google
A really good café with excellent coffee and sandwiches. The staff are friendly, and everything tastes amazing. I visited during the low season and again now in May as the season picks up - both times, the freshness and flavor were consistently top-notch

Ordered two breakfast sandwiches with no meat, they came with two different veggies. The sandwich was spicy for me which a bummer. They have freshly made bakery and good coffee drinks. Seating and decoration is nice.

Google
Amazing coffee, beer and food. Limited food offerings, but what they make is fantastic. Best tuna melt on West Coast! Healthy high quality well made daily special wrap/melt/baguette etc. You won't be disappointed.

LOVE this cozy little spot for breakfast and lunch!! We stayed in Port Renfrew for a few nights and visited this cafe four times, and loved it every single time!! The food was delicious (loved the savory pastries and sandwiches!), as were the drinks (our favorite was the Port Renfrew Fog), and the staff was truly so kind and helpful. The laid back vibe was perfect for our family, and there were outside patio games and various games, books, and coloring materials to entertain our toddler, which absolutely delighted her. Can't recommend this spot enough if you're in the area!

Very pet friendly cafe. There is plenty of outdoor seating for pets. Coffee was delicious and the sandwiches were Pre-made but they have a very delicious cinnamon bun!!

Yelp
We really loved this cute cafe in Port Renfrew! The ambiance is cozy and has great vibes. We decided to go for a quick lunch before going on an adventure around town. The veggie sandwich, breakfast sandwich, and scone were all incredibly tasty. The lady at the cashier was nice and friendly. They give you a buzzer for when your food is ready to be picked up! Just be mindful that the cafe can get quite busy, and parking might be a challenge. Nonetheless, it's a lovely spot for a delightful breakfast or lunch - a hidden gem that closes at 3 pm. Highly recommend if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Very limited menu but that may be because I was there in early November and an hour before closing. However, the chicken salad and tuna melt were otherworldly good! Fresh bread, great flavor, perfect texture. Well worth the stop.

Yelp
We only had baked goods and coffee. All excellent. So good in fact, that I hadn't finished my oatmeal chocolate chip cookie and blueberry/strawberry muffin, went back and bought 2 more cookies, 1 muffin and a savory scone to eat later after hiking. Those cookies are the best and freshest cookies ever - officially my favorite cookie, replacing the Deer Valley Ski Resort, oatmeal raisin (was my favorite cookie for decades). Perfect chewy and sweet. The muffin was moist, tender and not too sweet, cakelike but not as sweet. Well done, Coastal Kitchen Cafe. But the best part was the incredibly friendly and helpful 3 people working the counter on 8/26/22. Wow, thank you for a warm welcome and some good food. Oh, and the wifi saved us, as we needed to map our way to Avatar Trail and there was no cell service. Mapped the route and used that to guide us in and out. THANK YOU.

Yelp
Rotating local beer selection on draft. Has some cans too, including cider. Has a soup of the day. I had vegetable and beef. It was okay. Lots of sandwich options. Friend had a tuna melt. Nothing to write home about but did the job. Nice outdoor seating.

Yelp
Good food but it's pricey. Went for breakfast, I had the avocado toast which was really tasty and a good portion size but a bit pricey at $14. Service is friendly, can eat inside or outside and it's conveniently located on the main drag. Good food, but maybe I'll look for something a bit cheaper for brekkie next time I'm in town

Yelp
The halibut I had was quite good. The rice was fine and the carrots were good. The salad was good, if a little over-dressed. The iced tea on the other hand was Nestee commercial (powder-based?) tea that tasted terrible. Get a clue - you can't serve that kind of stuff with good food - it ruins the experience. There isn't a lot of competition - this is one of the best restaurants in town.

Serena B.

Yelp
Great food. Really great service. 4 stars because it would be great if they were open past 4pm in the summer. Go here for breakfast and have them make your lunch for picnics and hiking. I had the avocado toast with perfect poached eggs and radish greens on top. .

Yelp
Update (June 2017): Menu has changed. More streamlined. And feel is more restaurant-style and organized, without the awkward chalkboard menu. Outdoor patio has expanded too with much nicer tables and chairs. Will be serving wood fire pizza soon. Owner has a vision and is transforming Coastal into a more contemporary place. Veggie burger is no longer the massive soft bean patty burger, which I thought was very good with all the earthy fixings like shaved beet etc. New burger is a deep fried falafel patty. Doesn't feel as homemade and "hippy" but still decent just different. The hubs loved the wings! Still a great destination after a pleasant coastal drive and beach trek. When we visited on a Wednesday afternoon the place was busy with locals, tourists and hikers. The better choice to eat in Renfrew! Original Review (2016): Food is solid. Menu is local and varied serving breakfast and lunch. The "hippy" veggie burger is tasty: big size, homemade vegan patty and loaded with messy flavour. Our favourite place to visit for a hard-earned feast after a multi-day trek in the wild (while backpacking we dream about our "reward"). A preferred spot in town for a post-adventure meal (we are the tired muddy sweaty hikers blissfully chowing down on delicious real food!) Will be revamping menu, hours, and making brick oven pizza this summer season. Can be very busy with locals and tourists - it's a favourite hangout - so expect a wait but it's Renfrew so just kick back and relax... ** NOTE ********** - Only open seasonally (closed for winter, typically reopening first week of May) - Closed one day a week (Wednesdays, sometimes Thursdays) and only open late on certain days *** important to call or check Facebook page for up-to-date info...

Yelp
For a weary hiker stumbling off the West Coast Trail or the Juan de Fuca Trail, this little cafe is a shining beacon of delicious food that does not come in a freeze dried package. For all others, it's just a damn good place to get some grub. The prices are reasonable and the food portions are excellent. You will not go home hungry. After a long hike a real meal is what you need, and if you still can't finish all the fries, you know you got your money's worth. I'm a big fan of their halibut burger which comes with a delicious black bean salsa on it. The halibut is tender, flaky, and perfect. Wash that down with an Island Lager, some seafood chowder and some sweet potato fries, and the aches in your muscles will melt away. Yes, I had fries and a soup with my meal. I earned it. The restaurant has a huge menu board you order off at the front with many West Coast selections like fish and chips, buckets of clams, salads, burgers (The Coastal claims 6 oz of Redneck Heaven), wraps and desserts. The interior is beautiful and fun with a nice atmosphere. They have a foos ball table, and the specials board said they have foos ball nights (maybe a tourney?). Also, for the Island folk, Fridays are $2.50 Lucky days. The bathroom is clean, and pretty, with a cool sink. The staff are friendly, though they get a bit slammed during lunch, so while my friend and I got served right away, a couple other hikers we met on the trail joined us a bit later and they had to wait a while for service. Other than that, the experience was excellent, and well worth your time to drop in if you are visiting the area. I had been looking forward to returning to this place after my first trip 4 years earlier and I was not disappointed.

Yelp
The avocado toast breakfast is out of this world! Soooo good! A total must. Friendly services, calm atmosphere, great coffee. Simply the best!

Yelp
A great spot in the tiny town of Port Renfrew. The portions are huge, and the quality fantastic. I wish I could go back to try more of the menu! I got the veggie burger and salad. They make their parties on-site, and it was pretty unique -- the main substrate was corn based, kinda like a corn muffin. It was quite different than anything else I've had before, but fantastic nonetheless. If you're on Vancouver island, definitely make the trip out!

David M.

Yelp
Best Seafood chowder on the lower Vancouver island. Come, have a bowl, take a liter home!

Will S.

Yelp
Totally fine food. Like the eggs and waffles for breakfast...not a fun of the weird sausage though.

John P.

Yelp
On the downside.... kinda pricey, and kinda stingy on the food. Pound of wings? Meh, seriously shrunk, size-wise, 6 wings or so. $16 burgers, that kinda stuff. Slow service, but they had warned us it was going to be and it was pretty busy (Canada Day long weekend). Lots of staff, not too coordinated. On the upside... very friendly service inside as a pub. Nice pool table, beautiful building and they didn't bug me for bringing my kids into the pool table area - probably because rural BC has lot more relaxed licensing laws than our bigger cities. And, really nice view on the outside patio. Definitely recommended for a sunny day.

Yelp
I like driving, as some people know. I like driving on very windy roads, where driving the speed limit becomes a challenge rather than a bother. Hwy 14 in BC is a perfect place to do this; driving the governing speed limit on the highway is a genuine challenge of shifting, braking, and accelerating that can keep me fully engaged with the road and enjoying myself. Which means that on my honeymoon last year, I snapped my driving gloves on like any self-respecting Portland lesbian with a bit of steampunk in her blood, swung into my subcompact, and pushed the transmission to the limit while my wife and I intermittently talked and didn't depending on how bad the road is. We stopped for the sights, kicked up to speed again, and carried on, in the cheaper, ground-based version of the 100-dollar cheeseburger -- this restaurant, you see, was the excuse for the entire drive. That and I like matronizing locations in out of the way places, especially with native populations who need my money a lot more than white tourist traps do (they also deserve it more, which is the principle behind casinos, but I don't gamble). Anyway, this restaurant is incredibly good, edging out the Warm House that is its sort of cousin on the opposite side of the Strait of Juan de Fuca in the Makah lands. Portions were huge, food was delicious--their beer selection is wonderful, though I didn't drink any of it. I had a halibut burger and chips and clam chowder and ended up hopelessly stuffed on some of the best food of Pacific Northwest style you can get. This is a place with real skookum food, and it's literally worth the drive. The decor is honest, the people inside eating are friendly, and the laid-back atmosphere with the massive collection of different coloured coffee mugs is perfectly charming.

Michael G.

Yelp
The food was quite good. The service was quite good. Food came in a reasonable amount of time. The people we quite nice.

Doug S.

Yelp
What a cool place to hang out after driving FOREVER from Victoria. Great beer list. Pizza after 5 pm. Breakfast all day. Bluesy music. Indoor and outdoor seating. Fresh seafood and local beers.

Tom T.

Yelp
Just off the trails, passing through town, some other reason you are so freaking far out on HWY 14? Well then stop in to Coastal Kitchen Cafe! We saw tons of kids getting Ice Cream, but didnt partake. After spending the day @ the Beach, we needed some food... Big Menu, burgers, apps, sandwiches, et. Mom had some shrimp in wontons and lightly fried...great! I was told to get fish and chips, but didnt want anything fried...so instead got the Halibut Burger. It was AMAZING! Black bean salsa on it...the bezst! Plus I added a little cup of chowder, which was actually great (kind of lighter than I was expecting, maybe less cream). The chalkboard says $0.35 wings on Wednesdays. Are you KIDDING ME? No, they werent. IS IT WEDNESDAY??? No, it wasnt. Sad face. I'd come again. Service was ehh/OK.

Rachel A.

Yelp
This was some of the best food I had on my trip to Vancouver Island. Love the atmosphere, and amazing salmon burger. I can't wait to go back !

Anne K.

Yelp
Unimposing little restaurant in an out of the way place. Food was very good and the service was friendly. I'd go there again.

Eric E.

Yelp
Quaint little place. Great food, very friendly staff. Clam chowder might be the best on Vancouver island! I'd drive there again just to have lunch and drive back.

Taylor W.

Yelp
Wonderful, exquisite, exemplary restaurant. The epitome of Port Renfrew; a sight, a scene, the place to be. Wonderful, inviting, and friendly staff. A super awesome, uniquely and transcendent hippy vibe. A delicious menu to tailor to anyone's dietary needs. 11/10 would recommend.

Lori G.

Yelp
A nice little cafe in tiny town of Port Renfrew. Great place to go after hike at Botanical Beach. Food was delicious and service was great. Prices were pretty reasonable. Would definitely recommend.

Koni S.

Yelp
We ate here after a fabulous visit to Botanical Beach and this restaurants was one of the highlights of our trip to Vancouver Island. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was very fun. They will cook what you catch, so the place was full of fishermen (and women) and lots of great fish stories. I can't wait to go back.

Michal Z.

Yelp
what a great spot - we had a perfectly grilled salmon on quinoa salad, a tender halibut burger and a red chowder, all fresh and delicious. add quick and friendly service in casual atmosphere and good beer - can't ask for more.

Bunny G.

Yelp
One of the best beef burgers I've ever had in my life (no exaggeration), seafood chowder was rich & yummy, & the service was excellent. I would make a trip to Port Renfrew just for the burger! Onion rings were pretty spectacular as well. Basically everything we ate was awesome!

Jennifer P.

Yelp
This is one of the places that you call tell everything is just amazing. Best fish and chips ever.

Pat D.

Yelp
The food was freshly cooked and tasty. My husband had the halibut fish and chips which were actually two huge pieces of halibut in a light batter. It came with hand cut sweet potato fries and a salad. He said it was excellent - and he cleared his plate. I hade the salmon burger which was a filet of salmon on a bun. Very well-cooked. It came with fries. They offered a choice of malt or white vinegar. The vinegar added just a nice touch to the fish and the fries. It was overall a nice meal.
