"One of the West Coast’s most meticulous roasters, Coava choseSan Diegofor its first venture outsidePortland, Oregon, thereby instantly improving the city’s coffee scene. At its light-filled shop in the Gaslamp Quarter, guests can pair coffee, espresso, or cold brew on tap with a selection of locally made pastries. The staff always makes drip coffee with a Chemex and even crafts latte syrups in-house in flavors like vanilla and Cocanú chocolate."

Tons of seating, super clean feeling and a fun overall atmosphere. I enjoyed a wonderful decaf Latte (perhaps a bit heavy on the froth) but creamy smooth and delicious... Their decaf espresso is rich and smooth and is great in either a latte or americano!

This is so far the best espresso shot I had in San Diego: the barista is right down pro! Easy going, no fuss, very professional and excellent people skills. The place itself is outstanding, spacious, chick and with a touch of coziness to help you enjoy your experience even more. Of course I had to try their chemex brew also, and... spot on! This will be my to go place in SD. Come and try it out! Just a few blocks from Horton Plaza, train station and little Italy. Off the beaten path if tourist, stylish and the most important thing... GREAT Coffee and service

Wow! Great coffee experience, baristas are on point! Delicious Cappuccinos and Café Cortados. Can't wait to go back. Only drawback is finding parking downtown.

Very nice space in downtown near trolley station. Modern yet cozy. They make their own chocolate syrup and oat milk, which is a rare occurrence among coffee shops these days. Baristas are professional. The coffee, however, was lacking depth for me. I think this is something to do with the beans and not with the machine or the staff. After drinking my mocha I bought a pack of Costa Rican (honey processed) . Mind you these beans are $25-$30 per pound. At home, my drinks were also lacking depth with these beans even with perfect extraction. Good place to hangout, but there are better places to buy beans in my opinion if you are making lattes or mochas.

Nice coffee shop in downtown. Great alternative to the endless number of Starbucks in the area. The staff is friendly and this one of the few places I found in the area that does a pour over. Price is very reasonable for a pour over. The coffee here is pretty good but isn’t great. I did also try the cappuccino, which I found was above average.

Just your normal coffee shop around downtown. Located on the first floor of the Westin hotel. Had a latte and a croissant. Coffee a bit too light but the croissant is good. One other thing for me is that the cup handle is too small for me fingers ti hold..humm.... NFC payment, and free wi-fi available.

Connor and AJ at Coava really know their stuff, presentable coffee and very polite. Made me feel very welcome as a first timer to San Diego. As a Barista from Melbourne i can say i was impressed, will definitely be back here again.

Aww, Coava. What a blessing it is to have you in San Diego, finally! We were fortunate enough to meet and greet with the fellow Coava team members in Portland and haven't stopped craving the experience since. Service is personable (as you can probably tell), and you should expect top notch quality beans from them as well. It's our understanding that the founder, Matt, enjoys the meticulous pursuit of ideals coffee geeks dream of and it shows in the development of roast to the experienced baristas behind bar. Those that enjoy the finest specialty coffee has to offer will do well to visit Coava, enjoy all their coffee lineup, and pick up a bag of beans (they're fantastic and it supports the farmers that work so hard for it) - there's a surprise in every bag! If you enjoy doing work in cafes because of the ambiance, do that too! It is beautiful here, so share the experience. Instagram @coffeepourfavor Found this helpful🤔? 'Like' it 👍 below! ❓ Let us know! Coffee: Specialty grade with a huge emphasis on building relationships with farmers. The end result is definitely appreciated by us, the consumer, as the beans are so well-developed. Equipment: All beans roasted at their roastery in Portland on massive Probats. They utilize several brew methods some of which include the Coava Cone filters paired with a Chemex for pour over (most are probably familiar with the Able Kone (founder of which was a previous employee of Coava)), and espresso courtesy of the popular 3-group, La Marzocco Linea. Location:In the heart of downtown San Diego off of Broadway. Those that are driving may find parking nearby at Slate and F Street as well as a parking garage just down the street across from India and Broadway. Final Note: We have been fortunate to visit Coava in SD several times, and have met some fantastic people there behind bar. The coffees are always prepared to represent them faithfully, but most importantly: the service is beyond amazing; it has consistently been courteous, thoughtful, and respectful of time. ☕😆👍
