Food was so gooood! Rice was seasoned and was such a pleasant surprise. Good portions and served on cute wood boards with great presentation. The salad was well flavored and hummus and pita bread with the plate was delicious. They also had a Turkish beer we usually do not see in the U.S. and were so happy to have found! Bomonti What a great find! Highly recommend!!

Cozy Mediterranean restaurant located on 25th Avenue in San Mateo. The airy interior is decorated with bright colors, which makes it easy to enjoy the delicious beef gyro or the chick gyro plate. Rice is well-seasoned and cooked perfectly. Friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of free street parking.

We ordered the Chicken Gyro Wrap, Chicken Kebab Plate, Babaganoush, and Chicken Kebab with Baklava for dessert. If you haven't been to this place before, it’s a decent-sized, clean establishment with a few tables on the sidewalk. You order your food at the counter, and it is brought to your table when ready. Our order arrived quickly, though I must point out that the place not very busy at that time. The food was amazing—finger-licking good and generously portioned. Both the wrap and the kebab plate came with a fresh, crunchy salad. For the price, the food was worth it. Although I am not a resident of California and found it a bit expensive, it may not seem so to locals. Regardless, if you enjoy Mediterranean food, you should definitely check this place out. We loved it and highly recommend it.

The mixed grill plate was very flavorful and delicious. A little pricey, but the portion size was good. Definitely recommended for trying authentic Turkish cuisine.

Google
Best chicken kabob in the area! We come almost weekly. The falafels are best in the area too.

Google
I tried this place for the first time, and it’s officially my new favorite! The food was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. My coworker picked it up as takeout and treated me to lunch — and what a treat it was! I’ll definitely be coming back for more. Highly recommend! I had the Falafel plate, with a side of chicken.

Google
Authentic Mediterranean food. Very good lamb and beef kabobs.

This is a family owned little local gem. If you like Mediterranean and/or Greek food, you will definitely love this place! Cute atmosphere, delicious food, fresh ingredients, friendly hosts, and a great variety of dishes. My favorite dishes: Beyti and Alexander kebap And highly recommend getting their delicious baklava!

Yelp
Best portion size Ordered combo plate. The portions at my previous go-to Mediterranean spot have been getting smaller and smaller while the prices have gone the other direction so we gave this spot a try and the sides were just as good in terms of flavor and the meat portions were much better. The only thing is they don't have the pickled yellow pepper.

Yelp
A total hidden gem of a place for mediterranean food. Simple, good tasting food. It's a fast, casual place--no table service. Order and pick up at the counter. I had the lamb/beef gyro platter and a side of falafel. The falafel was delicious & moist. The pita bread was soft & warm--I couldn't get enough. This was my first time visiting and I was not disappointed. I will definitely be returning.

Yelp
Such great food, generous servings. Love this place! You can always walk in and usually there's no line. The food is fresh and the cabbage is pickled.

Yelp
Great find! Ordered the Lamb shish kabob plate and really enjoyed it. Generous portion! Perfectly cooked juicy lamb and great sides. Loved the salad dressing, perfectly seasoned. Will definitely stop by again.

Yelp
Wow! The food was amazing! One of the best Mediterranean places I've ever tried! Everything had some much flavor, especially the hummus; just wow! Steak cooked to perfection Service was phenomenal and fast. Place was clean and very nicely decorated. Floral/vine vibes all over which is refreshing. It was an amazing meal, thank you! I added an extra grilled tomato but usually only comes with 1.

Yelp
We stumbled across Cobani while searching for a nearby dinner spot in San Mateo -- funny enough, it came recommended by an eavesdropping stranger so we knew we had to give it a try. We arrived as a walk-in group of five, and the place wasn't busy. Reservations are available, but it seems to be more of a walk-in-style restaurant where you order at the counter before finding a table with your order number. A friend and I shared the mixed grill plate, and we also got garlic fries for the table. The portion size was perfect for the two of us, and I loved that we could try a variety of their meats -- my personal favorites were the lamb and chicken! The garlic fries were just okay though, and they barely had any garlic, so I'd skip them next time. Overall, it's a solid spot for Mediterranean and Turkish food. Street parking was plentiful, and I'd definitely come back.

Yelp
I love Mediterranean cuisine. Cute little restaurant off the main boulevard El Camino Real. Cobani has some high rankings. I've been able to try them twice now and their food is generously portioned and cooked well. I have a few Mediterranean restaurant favs in Redwood City, which I'm still very fond of, but Cobani is a close runner up. I ordered the Mixed Grill again and it's very filling with plenty for leftovers. The meats are juicy seasoned with spices. The chicken kebab is very juicy and full of Mediterranean flavors. The beef kebab and Kofke were tough. I love their rice! Side salad has a mustard vinegar dressing, which is nice to cool the light spices from the meats and chili oil on the hummus. And you also get a big fluffy pita to dip into the silky hummus. They have a menu of all traditional Mediterranean favorites, give them a try!

Yelp
Delicious Turkish food. The lamb shank is tender, fall off the bone and delicious. The prices are unbeatable for the Bay Area.
google avatar

Yelp
Very impressed with this restaurant to say the least. Meat dishes were very flavorful, cooked to perfection and portion sizes were huge. We came in with a group of 5, so we were able to try a few different dishes. The Mixed grill plate is definitely a good dish to split with someone due to its size. Most dishes come with a side salad, some rice, choice of meat/veggies, hummus and a yogurt sauce which was probably tzatziki. There isn't too much seating inside and the service was pretty fast. Prices are slightly on the higher side, but will definitely be coming back to try other items on their menu like the wraps.

Yelp
Came here for lunch during the week and it seemed the line followed us in. While we were lucky and walked in with no line, quickly a line formed behind us and the place got crowded. Food still came out fast, it was delicious and of course was satisfying. Place looked fine and was clean Would come back again

Yelp
This has been one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. Nothing fancy, just good food in a relaxed, clean, and pay as you order place. Sam, the manager was very pleasant and helpful. He encouraged us to try some beer from Turkey which went well with our dinner. We started with a generous portion of garlic fries which is freshly made, not oily at all, and served with catsup and yogurt dip. The Mixed Grill plate is for sharing. A generous portion of lamb, beef and chicken with a delicious serving of garlic rice, hummus, salad, and pita bread. We tried their Salmon Salad which was freshly made with fresh spinach, arugula, red onion, grape tomatoes, pickles, corn, and house dressing. The salmon was fresh and the dressing/sauces perfectly complemented this dish. This was also good for sharing. We ended our delicious dinner with their freshly made Baklava and hot tea. They actually added some floral decorations to brighten the interior. Certainly a good place to get quality Mediterranean and Turkish food in San Mateo.

Yelp
Today (June 7, 2025) we had a said plate and a mousaka plate,. A Turkish coffee. and a Turkish beer. All we're excellent This service was exceptional. It's an authentic taste of Turkey. We will return soon and often. Please note that parking is dicey.

Aruuke C.

Yelp
A Taste of Turkey -- Right Here! A very cozy and atmospheric place with beautiful wall murals -- it truly feels like you're in a small seaside town in Turkey. We ordered the appetizer combo, as well as the shish kebab and Adana, and everything was absolutely delicious! The meat was tender, flavorful, and perfectly grilled. The presentation was lovely -- served with fresh salad, rice, grilled vegetables, and tasty sauces. Every detail was spot-on, from the seasoning to the freshness of the ingredients. The service was great -- relaxed but attentive. The decor, with flowers and warm lighting, adds to the overall experience. Definitely recommend this spot to anyone who wants to enjoy authentic Turkish flavors without leaving the city.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our experience at Cobani! Generous portions -- the mix grill was definitely enough to share with 2 people. Each of the meats was cooked well -- tender, flavorful, and not dry at all! I loved how the mixed grill came on a wooden cutting board, it made the dish look very aesthetically pleasing and full. Quick service -- I like the casual setting of ordering at the counter and self-serve water. The food came out promptly, but not too quickly, so we knew it was being cooked fresh! The Greek salad was also fresh! I liked the option to have the dressings on the side, and loved both the balsamic and tahini sauces. One area where this place could improve is the pita bread, which did not really stand out/was pretty standard. Would love to come back here if we are in the area!

Yelp
Price rose 50% on average in 5 years is too much. My favorite place for lamb shank down the street (with better ambiance and seating) is almost the same price as 5 years ago, and lamb shank here is 50% more expensive (no kidding).
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and easy service; did a couple of to go pick ups! I just called the number and paid inside which was easy and there is lots of parking! I always get the mixed grill plate!

Punc P.

Yelp
The food was great every just the rice I got the lamb kabab plate it came it side pita bread, dry filling. Quick service. And it is very homey there makes you feel like it's your aunt or grandmas house.

Yelp
Large portion with great taste! The restaurant itself is not very big but it's always nice to dine in and enjoy the wonderful meal. I also tried to-go and all food items were boxed separately to avoid them being mixed up with each other. All the meat items were super tender and juicy. You could never go wrong with anything here. If you're having a hard time to decide what to order, the combo platter would be the perfect one for you (or to share!)
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
always consistent and deelish! I love how we can always can't on our journey across the bridge to eat here nourishing and worth it! Customer service is always friendly and efficient as the food comes out plated, hot and fast! The crowds who visit are diverse and you witness everyone enjoying the food here! We leave with happy hearts and tummies every time for years! Yes, the prices do eventually have to increase with inflations but the portions are always big enough for leftovers and the food is always made with love! We will drive all the way from Dublin for the experience now that speaks volume!

Yelp
Thanks to yelpers and their honest reviews...I was looking for take away for the hubs at home. We discovered Cobani Gyrl & Kebab! A cute shop in an older part of San Mateo. Staff was friendly and took my order. I ordered mixed grill plate, dulma, and baklava - a little over 45 bucks w/ tip. Brought it home and husband enjoyed. Stated the dolma freshly made and grilled plate nicely seasoned and well cooked, not tough. We may check them out another time and dine in if we're ever back in the neighborhood. efcharistó!

Yelp
This place is awesome! I got two combo plates and garlic fries to go and it taste so good. I especially love the hummus and the rice, and the gyros and chicken was well marinated. However, the waiting time was a little long even on a Thursday night. But would definitely come again! 10/10 - food!!!

Yelp
Came here hungry after a strenuous hiking for dinner. It was delicious!! And we ended up eating too much here and being super stuffed... hahaha! I think they don't mind using high quality and fresh ingredients in their dishes. Plentiful herbs and olive oil. Big plus. Baba ghanoush was a Tahiti with eggplants and smoky paprika drizzled with plenty of olive oil and spices. It was very rich and appetizing. They gave us one more bowl of pita bread as we finished them so quickly. So nice of them. This was probably our favorite. Beyti was kinda of an adventurous choice for us since it looked very unique. Turned out it was worth trying. With yogurt based sauce and seasoned buttery rice, bread wrapped minced lamb was full of flavors. Grilled jalapeños was super spicy, so be careful. Greek salad was also nice, fresh, and crunch. A lot more flavors compared to regular Greek salad you'd expect from other places. Feta cheese and olive pickles add a great flavor. Generous portion and olive oil sauce. Lastly, we tried kunefe our of curiosity as it was a dessert with cheese. The taste was great. Mozzarella-ish cheese in the middle, crispy pistachio/coconut phyllo, and buttery syrup on top on a hot plate. I would still personally prefer Baklava because I like it crispy and not too heavy (cheese fat) as a dessert. But it was more of a cultural experience. I found this place was listed on the Michelin guide (not star). I'm glad we filled our hungry belly in this place today.

Anne S.

Yelp
The food is freshly made, excellent texture and seasoning. The Shwarma was perfect - shaved thin. The grilled meat was moist and tender. We loved the Babaghanoush, Houmous and salad -- everything was delicious.

Yelp
I tried the lamb plate and it was incredible! Highly recommend--best Mediterranean food I've had!

Yelp
The food here is pretty superb! We came here on a Saturday night after a nice hike not too far away and we came out super full but very satisfied. The baba ghanoush was a great starter with pita bread. Creamy, savory, and also a little smokey. Afterwards, we were served the beyti which we chose not knowing much about it but definitely paid off. The minced lamb had great flavor and the sauce was buttery and creamy. For our veggies, the Greek salad was crispy with a nice tang. Lastly we finished with the kunefe which was crispy with slight cheesiness and not overly sweet. The restaurant itself is not very big but I was surprised that it was not very packed. Staff was friendly! Would come here again!

Yelp
After a long day at work And lots of meetings, I found this amazing kebab place and I will strongly recommend you to come and try it. The taste the flavor it's so authentic I found this place by accident after many years of being in the area and it's just so great. taste of food and flavor from the Mediterranean. Turkish. Sam the waiter is just amazing. Just ask for him when you come here and he will suggest you great dishes. But the taste is the one thing that will bring me back all the time every time now on when I want to try a Mediterranean dish
google avatar

Yelp
Food and service always excellent! I particularly love the İskender because it's very similar to that of Bursa. Staff is always very welcoming and food is delicious.
google avatar

Sean O.

Yelp
This place has gone downhill in the last few years. Their portion sizes have shrank, prices have gone up, and the quality of the food has suffered. My favorite dish was the combo gyro plate and the beef/lamb gyro is now inedible. It's a real shame, I've been coming here for years but this is the last time I'll be visiting cobani.
google avatar

Roozbeh Z.

Yelp
We usually order from this place for pickup. This was another time when we ordered Adana and Kofte. The kababs was pretty delicious (i.e 吃好). Loved it. We also ordered Beyti as an appetizer for the first time. It was small pieces of kabab wrapped in bread. Very very delicious However, the food was not really packed for transit. As soon as I tapped on break, it was all mixed up, hence the 4 stars. I will order again and again. These guys are good

Yelp
I just got back from a few weeks in Greece, and stepping into Cobani Gyro & Kebab made me feel like I was still on my trip. The gyro was perfectly seasoned, the pita warm and fluffy, and the tzatziki tasted just like what you'd find in a taverna. It's rare to find a place that captures the spirit of Mediterranean food so well. Highly recommend if you're craving a taste in San Mateo

Bektur A.

Yelp
Good food options, Halal meat. The service is very friendly. I would recommend their kebab. Overall, great place.

Nicole Y.

Yelp
Both food and service are good. Ordered Lamb Shish Kebab Plate. Lamb tender and tasty. Will definitely come back.

Yelp
This is my favorite Greek restaurant on the Peninsula, and I've been a regular customer for years! Their chicken kebab plate is delicious, and I highly recommend it. I've also used them for catering, and the food received many compliments. I will definitely continue to visit whenever I crave Greek food.

Christine H.

Yelp
This is such a gem! Unsuspecting little hole in the wall on 25th Ave. in San Mateo with some of the best flavors and healthy portion sizes. So good! The staff is always attentive and kind as well!

Vince S.

Yelp
Must Try! Lamb shank was cooked perfectly. Fell of the bone a flavor was great. The chicken gyro wrap as well was great. I loved they add the sauce and the wrap was not dry moist chicken bursting worth flavor. We tried the hummas and had to order another round of pita bread it was great food wonderful service and a cozy ambiance

M Y.

Yelp
Little did I know that the Mixed Grill Plate is for sharing as I ordered the whole thing all for myself lol and I'm very glad that I did as it contains the most tender juicy proteins, lamb, chicken, beef and kofta! My preference is always dark meat chicken as the vast majority of places overcook white meat chicken and to my delight Cobani does an excellent job of cooking their chicken kebab to perfection! We also had the Adana kebab plate and Combo Gyros plate both of which were throughly delicious and enjoyed! Their pricing is very competitive in these inflationary times and you indeed get good value for your spend. I like that this is casual enough (you order at the counter, select a table and they'll bring the food to you) for this to become a part of our regular dinner rotation. You would do well to give this place a try in a neighborhood without the hustle and bustle of downtown San Mateo
google avatar

Yelp
They handled our department lunch and were very accommodating. They took individual orders at the cash register and we sat down. They didn't miss a beat as they served the entrees and apps. Everything was good and all had a great time.

Peter V.

Yelp
We used to go to this place all the time. The owner Sammy is cool. But we went one time during the day and seen a cockroach walking across the floor. You know what they say if you see one roach during the day there's an infestation. Please be cautious. Hope this helps

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. The people there are always so nice and the food is pretty fast and always fresh. Great ambience with bright lighting, a little Grecian scene mural on the walls and plants brightening the space.

Yelp
A nice casual spot to get some healthy tasty grilled Mediterranean fare in this city south of SFO, along the peninsula. Counter service, interesting interior and decor, and good spacing of dining tables. Last but not least, good food. Chicken Shish Kebab includes five large pieces of nicely "shish'd" chicken breast, huge pile of iceberg chopped plus pickled red cabbage in a fabulous vinegary dressing. Soft pita bread is provided to go with everything but especially the hummus garnish. Enough food in one order to yield two maybe even three servings, so it's a good value to me. E-dubs my rad friend and chauffeur that evening ordered Mixed Gyros, which looked pretty good. We got there about half hour before closing. There were only a few other people at another table. Seating inside and outside. What we ordered wasn't prepared ahead so we had to wait much longer than expected. I'm guessing they do a much brisker biz for lunch through normal dinner hours. Check out Cobani Gyro & Kebab if ya happen through San Mateo.

Yelp
This is my go to place for Mediterranean food. if you like halal guys... try this place, its MUCH better. Very fresh and hot, not sitting inside some hot plates. The hummus is amazing, my friend would buy a whole side for herself sometimes. Service is good. You order at the front, then take a seat and they will bring you your food to the table. Parking is okay. its street parking so its a hit or miss, there is ample street parking, but there also is a lot of businesses around so you might have to walk a bit.
google avatar

Elle G.

Yelp
If your looking for quality Mediterranean food stop by Cobanis!! Parking is bit annoying since it's a downtown strip area so it can be limited if you go during busy hours but I usually find one fairly quickly. You order your food at the register and then they bring out your order. My favorite plate is the chicken kebab the salmon was okay but nothing special. The chicken is flavorful and never dry. The servings sizes are great also they are generous and it's a great combination of salad, rice and hummus. If you love spicy ask for some of there chili sauce it pairs delicious with the chicken kebabs. I have been here numerous times they are extremely consistent with service and quality. Don't forget to order dessert I highly recommend there Kunefe!

Yelp
Friday lunch date with husband - headed to 25th, so many places to eat - we wanted Mediterranean - headed to Cobani and got lucky with parking - seated inside for the ambience - painted walls, - order taken by a pleasant gentleman with a smile - we ordered a gyro wrap and the Alexander plate - pita, gyro meat, special tomato sauce with paprika. Husband and I always swap midway in the meal lol - we both enjoyed both plates - the wrap was as expected and tasty - the Alwxander plate was unusual and delicious - more than expected - we come here becasue it is consistently good - parking can be hard on Fridays on 25th - we got lucky at 12:30pm - easier to park around 11-11:30 or after 1:30 if you can make those times - come try Cobani! Oh! Try the Turkish Coffee and the kunafe (Sp)! You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Went on a Friday evening for dinner with the fams. Nice location near the end of the street closer to El Camino... parking wasn't too hard to come by, fortunately. The interior of the restaurant is nice with paintings and murals. The bathroom is a little dingy but not dirty, just a little dark. Order at the front and sit and wait. Two TVs with sports on, no problem. Nothing we were interested but can see how it could be fun with big games or fights on. The food didn't take too long and not super quick. Good food takes time to cook. We ordered two combos and fries. Fries were fine. Combos with kafta and chicken, falafel, hummus, and salad. Everything on the plate and cutting board were delicious! Definitely adding this gem to our restaurant rotation.
google avatar

Kay N.

Yelp
Food: Fresh! Fresh! Fresh! We ordered the appetizer sampler and chicken wrap. Everything was perfectly seasoned. The hummus variations were delicious. I tried the eggplant one and the regular hummus. I liked the smooth and creamy texture of both. The roti was also cooked to perfection. Service: Wait staff could be more attentive but we're overall kind and got the work done. Ambiance: the cultural paintings are beautiful. This place is super cute.

Mike S.

Yelp
One of our go-to spots on our dinner rotation. Chicken kebab plate, falafel plate, chicken kebab wrap, or falafel wrap all solid options. Healthy and delicious. Chicken kebab is really good. Friendly staff.

Yelp
[Pre-Covid Review] Possibly my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in the Peninsula. Discovered this gem two years ago while figuring out what to eat with my boyfriend. You order at the register, and when your order's ready they'll bring it to your table. My go-to order is the Combo Gyros plate. Generous servings of meat, came with warmed pita bread, scoop of hummus, rice, and salad. Food here is slightly pricy but it's enough for two meals for me so I think it's totally worth it.
