A Warning for Locals and Nationals
I strongly caution locals and nationals against visiting La Bóveda restaurant in Puerto Escondido. The service is not just bad—it’s outright discriminatory. The staff blatantly prioritize foreigners, treating them with excessive attention while neglecting or outright disrespecting Mexican patrons.
During my visit, it was clear that being a national meant you were second-class. Despite arriving first, we were made to wait much longer than foreign diners, who were served immediately and given preferential treatment. To add insult to injury, the restaurant allowed foreign customers, particularly those who fit a stereotypical "ideal" appearance (blonde and light-eyed), to dine without even wearing shoes—something unimaginable for locals.
This kind of behavior is not just unprofessional; it is an insult to the very people of this country. For a restaurant in a Mexican tourist destination to openly disregard and mistreat its own nationals is both shameful and unacceptable.
I urge locals to avoid this place and spend their money at establishments that respect and value everyone equally. La Bóveda has shown through its actions that it does not deserve our patronage. Let this serve as a warning: don’t waste your time, money, or dignity here.
