I don’t get it. It could be such a nice place, the set up is stunning, but everyone there seems rude and annoyed by customers’ presence. We arrived with no reservation around 7pm and they said that we couldn’t have food. Fair enough, we agreed to stay for a drink. After almost an hour there, we were still the only customers. We asked whether we could at least have an appetizer since they didn’t seem busy at all and they declined. I don’t understand why. No other person was there. If they had a tasting menu it would perhaps make sense - but it’s an a la carte restaurant. Do they only have ingredients for the exact number of reservations? Not even enough cucumbers for a salad? My only explanation is that maybe the staff is not payed enough and they hate their job. If the owner reads this, you should do something about it.

A Warning for Locals and Nationals I strongly caution locals and nationals against visiting La Bóveda restaurant in Puerto Escondido. The service is not just bad—it’s outright discriminatory. The staff blatantly prioritize foreigners, treating them with excessive attention while neglecting or outright disrespecting Mexican patrons. During my visit, it was clear that being a national meant you were second-class. Despite arriving first, we were made to wait much longer than foreign diners, who were served immediately and given preferential treatment. To add insult to injury, the restaurant allowed foreign customers, particularly those who fit a stereotypical "ideal" appearance (blonde and light-eyed), to dine without even wearing shoes—something unimaginable for locals. This kind of behavior is not just unprofessional; it is an insult to the very people of this country. For a restaurant in a Mexican tourist destination to openly disregard and mistreat its own nationals is both shameful and unacceptable. I urge locals to avoid this place and spend their money at establishments that respect and value everyone equally. La Bóveda has shown through its actions that it does not deserve our patronage. Let this serve as a warning: don’t waste your time, money, or dignity here.

The best food I’ve had in a long while! The chef is out of this world! Try chicken dumplings and mezcal tasting flight!

Nice mezcal bar. It can get a bit hot if seated outside the high chair area so grab a seat at the counter. Friendly staff. Nice mezcal tasting (3 for 300 mxn). They also offered dinner with advanced reservation. A 5-10 min walk on a dusty road from Hotel Escondido and Punta Pajaros.

Amazing spot. Great architecture. Lovely staff. Delicious mezcal. We decided to stay for dinner and (much to our surprise as we thought this is a bar so the food won’t be good) it was amazing. Innovative Mexican cuisine and excellent all around

Excellent! Five of us had dinner at Cobarde last night. The location is excellent, with rooftop views of the church. Very romantic and cozy. We shared several plates. Portions were large. The chicken dumplings, grilled chicken, and dry, aged beef were outstanding. Service was excellent with Daniel overseeing the ordering and service. Outstanding food and service in a beautiful setting. Everything ran so smoothly we were surprised to learn the restaurant only had been open for 2 weeks. Highly recommended for a great night out.
