Our family is tremendously glad that Cocina Madrigal is back and still as delicious as ever! We are a huge fan of the enchiladas - my mom and I love the chicken enchiladas and my sister enjoys the Wild Mushroom enchilada. Each bite is packed with flavor and we feel it’s a testament to the restaurant that the sides are just as drool-worthy as their main entree counterparts. The salsa and chips are so fresh and delightful when warm. There is a lot of heart behind this food and we taste it in every dish! Please indulge yourself if visiting Phoenix or as a resident at this restaurant the next time you can. It’s our favorite local find! They currently operate out of a food truck and maybe in the building next to it - we couldn’t quite tell. All seating is now outside (maybe in the future this may change). There is a beautifully-decorated, shaded, and misted outdoor seating area for those dining in and an additionally shaded and misted area for those waiting for to-go orders.

The restaurant is currently under renovations so if you go to the og location just walk or drive down a little ways on the left side of the road from the restaurant and there is a food truck with a big parking lot and some tables to sit at. If the tables are all taken or it's too hot to be outside to eat, you can order takeout as well. I ordered the wild mushroom enchiladas and I was absolutely overjoyed with how delicious these were. No spice level, it's a mild cream sauce (if, like me you can't handle spice). Food arrived quickly and the staff were so pleasant! I will absolutely be back to get these delicious enchiladas again. I hope they're able to open their indoor restaurant again soon :)

The service and food make this place an incredible stop, especially if you’re from out of town. Everything I had was amazing — from their aguas frescas and appetizers to the enchiladas. Easily a 10/10!

Their restaurant burned down last year sometime so we went to their new taco truck stand just down the street. It’s maybe a three minute walk from the old restaurant just west of there. We were pleasantly surprised by the awesome set up. They have there. Covered seating with fans and sprayers. Going to keep the summer heat off of you. The food was amazing as always and it’s a nice bonus that it comes in to go packaging so you can take your leftovers home easily. Same great flavor as always! They are salsa and guac are to die for !

Amazing atmosphere and incredibly flavorful food. Highly recommend the piña agua fresca and the guacamole! The restaurant was closed when we went but their food truck seating was cool despite the heat!

We absolutely LOVE Cocina Madrigal! 🌮✨ It’s our go-to spot for both family dinners and treating our employees — and it’s a hit every single time. From the moment you walk in, the service is welcoming, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the food… unforgettable. Every dish we’ve tried has been full of flavor and beautifully prepared. You can tell they put heart into everything they serve. Whether we come with our kids or with a group from work, it always feels like a treat — and everyone leaves happy (and full!). Highly recommend Cocina Madrigal to anyone looking for amazing food, excellent service, and a spot you’ll want to come back to again and again. Thank you for being a true Phoenix gem!

Food is sooo fresh and so delicious. The Temporary location is nicely set up. All of the staff - everyone one of them - were friendly and inviting.

Amazing service, food and drinks. Don’t let the outside of the building or the location fool you. Everything about this restaurant is top notch. Highly recommend the tacos (can mix and match three) and enchiladas (served in 2). Frozen margs are off the chain … made with an ice cream machine so no hard chunks of ice. Our server hustled like one has never seen and we were SO well cared for. We were thankful to have great dessert to finish our meal. An absolute MUST DO restaurant when in PHX!

Yelp
As one of the first customers when Cocina Madrigal very first opened, we absolutely fell in love with Leo's dream restaurant. Leo actually sat at our table and told his story of his dream and we felt like family. We dined here so many times with family and friends and friends of family. During the pandemic, we didn't see Leo much, but always looked forward to our next visit. We came from the east valley and the trip was not a short one, but we'd all meet at Cocina and it was always amazing. We have such fond memories of those times. We have continued to watch for any updates on a reopening or a new location, but sadly there has been none. People regularly post reviews of the restaurant, but if you are hopeful and reading the reviews, they are not about the Cocina Madrigal we knew and loved, because it has been closed since the fire. Our family sends it's best wishes to Leo and his family and hopes that if there ever is a new location or if this location ever does open again that we will once again be able to enjoy the beautiful food that Leo brought to us.

Yelp
Started off strong with the mango margarita - sweet, slightly tangy, and very mango-y. The got the Trio with salsa, guacamole, and Oaxaca fundido. Probably one of the best guacamoles I've ever had. I loved how all the ingredients were so finely chopped in the avocado. The fundido was savory, delicious with the chips. Enchilada - one mushroom and one birria - both tasted too and had distinct flavor profiles. I don't usually have mushrooms with Mexican food so this was a nice pairing for me, We ended with the the Churros that has the that crisp outer layer and perfectly sweet Bavarian cream filling.

Yelp
This place was highly recommend through Yelp. So my Yelp Friend Michelle and I decided to try it. Parking was difficult. There lot is small and there is a neighborhood where people are parking in. Once parked you go inside and it's a bit small. We were sat at a table with two seats next to the restroom. Michelle had called to make and rsvp and this is where they sat us. There food was mediocre and isn't somewhere I would say has the best Mexican food. The tortillas are made fresh which was good but everything else was ok. They also charged us a fee and wouldn't let us split our bill which was odd. Needless to say we won't be back.

Yelp
Great food. Love the upscale fusion of mexican cuisine. No wonder this place is always so busy! Thanks for the great food, and great music definitely coming back :)

Yelp
With as high of a rating as Cocina Madrigal has, I knew I had to check them out. From the outside it doesn't look like much but it's the food and service that makes it all worth it. My friend and I came for lunch after a day of hiking and enjoyed the weather on the outdoor patio. It's easy to judge right off the bat by the chips & salsa and they passed the test. Just the right amount of spicy and flavor. For an entree I had one mushroom enchilada and one barbacoa. I actually ended up liking the mushroom the best. It was super flavorful & unique. The barbacoa was just alright. I'll definitely be back again if I'm ever in town. A great spot to grab lunch or dinner.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Flavors were terrific and cooked perfectly. Came out hot and fresh too! The Oaxaca fundido were one of our favorites and a must try. The beef tenderloin taco was paired so well with the gorgonzola cheese too; I wouldn't mind coming back to try all their tacos actually Service: 4/5 The place was crazy packed at peak hours (we had reservation) and we sat without drinks for the first 10-15 minute. Aside from that the servers were attentive when they could be. Ambiance: 3/5 Very casual, hole in the wall place which I don't mind! Means the food tastes that much better, however it was so crowded I kept needing to scoot my chair into the table so the waiters/waitresses had enough space to get by. It was so loud I couldn't really hear the 4 other people I came with without shouting. We also had to park a block down which isn't a far walk, except we were approached by some random person for a ride, so be careful!

Yelp
Ambiance. As we pulled into the lot from street, it completely reminded me of the movie from Bridesmaids where maid of honor Annie brings the bridesmaids and bride to an exotic, South American restaurant in the middle of nowhere and feels a little sketch. But the reviews were excellent and parking lot was full. Inside, the hosts took a minute to acknowledge. Glad we had reservations. It was busy. Seats about 50 inside; 80 outside? They accommodated our request to sit outside; we sat in front patio; basic, cafeteria like table and chairs. Nothing fancy. Loos were clean, stocked. Food. Wow... Fresh. Good portion. Authentic. Reviews were correct. Top 100 places list is correct. Pics say more. Service. Though host was on the slow, the service was tops. He was a pro. Accommodating, knowledgeable, super friendly, gracious about drinks delayed. WROTE down a list of recommendations for other places to check out in the city after inquiring. True foodie and industry veteran. He gave great details of his recommendations and where to get local tortilla press. Overall. A. We were so satisfied. Total diamond. Raving about it all on drive back to resort.

Yelp
Kudos to Chef Leo Madrigal who has been offering his culinary expertise for over two decades for his tasty, generous, varied and diverse ingredient combinations. We had not such unique and enticing combinations since our visit to Mexico City. CDMX-style cuisine is what I think exemplifies Cocina Madrigal's bravura. Here dishes such as their Guacamole de la Casa with Fresh, with jalapenos, cilantro, lime, red onions, and tomatoes, comes close to that of sorely missed Esparza's Barrio Café rendition. The only experience with the fabulous Wild Mushroom Enchilada with varieties of mushrooms along with ancho mole cream, an incredible avocado relish can only be found in the most outstanding of Mexican restos. The Beef Birria Enchiladas are mouthwatering. Needless to say, I was very satisfied with all the goodies offered, and is definitively a place to return to.

Yelp
Excellent!! on my flight and I checked options. Cucina Madrigal pop to the top as one of Yelp top 100 in the United States so I decided to give it a shot. The food is excellent and well worth five stars. The guacamole was one of the best I've had in my entire life fully tasting of avocado with a slight slight heat and background onion. The chips were crispy and very fresh. I also enjoyed the mix and match beef and mushroom enchiladas. The mushroom enchilada definitely lived up to the hype. I am pretty far off the vegan or vegetarian scene and was hesitant to add the mix and match mushroom, but I was psyched that I did. It was off the hook. It definitely tasted of nice fresh mushrooms. The beef enchilada was also spectacular. It was accompanied by black beans and rice, which were perfect. I split an order of the street corn, which was also excellent.

Yelp
The taco's were the best we've had in a super long time! We live in Florida and we're visiting Phoenix. We decided to stop here for lunch. So glad we did! We got the Al Pastor taco marinated pork with roasted pineapple, pickled red onion, cilantro and Sonoran salsa, Oaxaca Shrimp taco mango coconut cabbage slaw and avocado cream taco and Beef Tenderloin Steak Toco pomegranate marinade, chipotle. We definitely recommend these and you won't be disappointed. For dessert we got the Churros Bavarian cream filled with creme anglaise and carmel sauce. This was the best Churros we've EVER had. If you are in Phoenix you must stop by. Service was very friendly. We sat outside and the weather was so nice.

Yelp
We are not from Phoenix, but when in the area we always have dinner here and recommend others to dine here. We still remember our 1st time when we had the pleasure of Leo Madrigal chatting with us at our table. It was very busy during the Detroit Lions & San Francisco 49s playoff game. People were definitely continuing to come in and from all age groups. And boy was it loud in the restaurant and it wasn't the children. We had the Chicken Enchiladas & Chicken Quesadilla and both were yummy. While we knew they were busy, we didn't have the same attention to service that we've had in the past and had to wait a little longer to get our initial server & when we needed extra sauce to finish our meal We have shared with others looking for a Mexican meal to come here. Until next time.

Yelp
This place is still great! Excellent service and fabulous food. My favorites: Mushroom enchiladas Shrimp tacos Mango steak salad Guacamole Chips and salsa Everything else on the menu is also probably great, but I love these things so much I never branch out.

Yelp
What an amazing experience! Get ready to join the rows of cars lining the street next to Cocina Madrigal! Chef-Owner Leo is creates magical madrigals that make you want to sing. From the refreshing House Margarita to the fresh and layered salsa. The Guacamole is a must have. The Hatch Green Chilli Pork Fundido....ooey gooey goodness with warm corn tortillas. The wild mushroom enchiladas are the bomb. It was flavorful and delicious. I also had the Barbecoa enchiladas. We were too full from the meal to enjoy delicious looking churros!

Yelp
The location was busy when we arrived but we had a table reserved so had no problem getting in. Service was friendly and fast - 10/10 there. My water never went without a refill! The ambiance was a little lacking - it was cute but the doors kept opening near our table so it was a little chilly and the ceiling looks to need a refresh (it was sort of sinking in the middle). Nothing major, just a few things that took away from the overall vibe. The food was average in my opinion. I got the chicken enchiladas and they lacked flavor - I added some salsa from our chips basket and it helped a little. The chips and salsa were good, salsa had a kick! The churros for dessert were good but had a strange custard type filling but I think that's common around here.

Yelp
This restaurant is Cocina Madrigal in Phoenix, which serves energizing Mexican food with friendly staff. It has a cozy atmosphere and really brings the most effective Oaxaca Fundido and Beef Birria Enchiladas-style dishes. The servers are very kind and great with recommendations, and the service is stellar. The Bavarian cream-filled cookies taste so decadently great. Who can do without this place when authentic Mexico is the subject?

Yelp
Solid Mexican food in the area! I went here around 2pm to get a substantial meal before festival weekend. I went with a friend and got enough food for 2 meals - chicken quesadilla, grilled elote, and 1 of each of the enchiladas (chicken, beef birria, wild mushroom, barbacoa green chile). The place still felt busy, but there are reservations you can make on the Yelp app, but I opted not to since we weren't sure when we actually eat, and 2pm is kind of an off hour and there was ample reservation time slots 15 minutes at a time, and we were able to still immediately walk in without a reservation. The chicken quesadilla is pretty heavy and filling in itself, so it is a very substantial appetizer. One order is sufficient for a meal. It is cheesy and has ample amount of chicken. We opted off the cob for grilled elote for ease of sharing. The corn is fairly sweet and pairs well with the aioli and cotija cheese, and it is one of the better elotes I have tried. On paper, we got 1 of each of the enchiladas but that is because we got 2 portions of enchiladas, where one portion has 2 enchiladas. You get to mix and match which is great and ideal for my foodie preferences where I love variety. 2x2 = 4 and there are 4 types of enchiladas, so that was perfect to try all of them! The chicken one is okay for me but my friend loved it. I just didn't prefer it as much because the chicken felt a little dry to me. The beef birria one is good - it has a bit of a cinnamon + chili flavor and is fairly rich. The mushroom one is a lot better than I thought, as I am not too big of a fan of mushrooms. Pairing with the avocado and pico de gallo on top, this enchilada is very delicious. The barbacoa green chile is also pretty good, as the beef is very tender. Service is good as the food is delivered at a good interval and checks up on us once in a while. Any additional requests we were able to easily flag the server and they were fulfilled adequately.

Yelp
In town for a few days. First stop is here for lunch. The place was full. Parking lot was full. Bar was open. Ordered the chips and salsa. Great salsa. Did my meal, I ordered the enchilada barbacoa and a chicken taco. The meal was awesome. Both enchilada and taco were full of flavor. The service was fast. Atmosphere was nice. This place does not disappoint. The food has always been better than most. I recommend.

Yelp
Wow wow wow! My co worker who is local recommended it here while I was traveling for a meeting and it did not disappoint! They were me aCollege lives about 20 minutes away and we went here for dinner her birthday weekend on the way we were wondering how good it could actually be and then we got our food and totally got it. Priced super well and the appetizer trio was absolutely amazing! It's pretty relaxed so you can dress comfortably and where are some spacious pants! I got the smothered chicken burrito and she got mushroom enchiladas and added steak per the servers rec and it was all amazing! I will definitely not just "go back" but will go back any time I am in the area that I can get a table!

Yelp
Came on a Thursday for lunch. Had a reservation through Yelp, but it wasn't necessary as there were outdoor tables available. They really didn't even check when I walked in. Prickly pear margarita on the rocks was strong. It wasn't extremely sour, but they do rim the drink with sugar if you prefer it. After two drinks you can probably feel the alcohol. Appetizer trio was good. You can tell that everything was homemade. The tortilla chips were thin and crispy. Guacamole and salsa were fresh. Oaxaca fundido was probably the best out of the trio. The mushrooms were meaty, and that in it of itself would be filling. They really don't skim on the portions either even though it was a trio. Tacos were okay. They aren't the best tacos I've had. I really only enjoyed the beef tenderloin steak taco. It was amazing. I loved the sweetness of the fried peppers and onions. They do use gorgonzola which is a little funky, but it adds balance to the taco by providing saltiness. The steak was tender and seasoned well. The pomegranate marinade on it was really good, wasn't expecting for a sweet marinade, but it worked well overall. Al pastor taco need more flavor, also could've been more tender. Achiote braised chicken was a little on the spicier side. It is juicy. However, the homemade corn tortillas didn't hold up really well. Stuck to the paper when I picked it up. They were super soft, but I worried about the integrity of the tacos as I was eating them. Overall, I would come back for the steak tacos and appetizer trio. Those were really the standout menu items for me.

Yelp
Maintaining a 4.6-star rating with over 4,000 reviews is very hard to do. Yes, a few reviews accuse Covina Madrigal to be inauthentic Mexican food. It didn't stop us from visiting. Walking in on a Sunday evening around 5 p.m., we snagged a table for three on their outdoor patio. Located in an industrial area, there's a small parking lot near the no-frills restaurant. To feed three hungry people, we got the Trio of guacamole, salsa, and fundido. Each was very good and the mushrooms in the fundido made it unique. For our main, my wife enjoyed three tacos- shrimp, pork, and barbacoa. Since they let you mix and match, I got the mushroom enchilada and a barbacoa. The winner was the mushroom- very tasty and unique. My six-year-old daughter enjoyed her quesadillas. The frozen prickly pear margarita was strong and very, very good!

Yelp
DO NOT PASS ON THIS PLACE DUE TO IT'S LOCATION! Hands down one of my top three Mexican Food spots in Phoenix. I would just recommend carpooling because parking can be a challenge. The atmosphere at Cocina Madrigal is so chill. You're made to feel welcomed as soon as you make it to the hostess stand. You can make reservations here on Yelp to avoid the wait during peak times! What can I say, the food here is great! My Mom who is a I'll make it at home person will never turn down an invite to dine at Cocina Madrigal. The enchiladas are excellent at CM! The margaritas were also a hit at the table!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely stellar meal here! I got the tacos al pastor and my wife got the mushroom enchiladas. We also got a margarita for me and my wife chose a virgin margarita. Our 4 year old daughter got the cheeseburger and French fries. We also got a guacamole which was thick and chunky. Presentation of the food was beautiful, and the taste was incredible. Even the sides of beans and rice were excellent. Our server was very friendly and prompt. The place was very clean as well. The only negative which wasn't the fault of the restaurant was the people sitting next to us were unbelievably loud and were dropping a bunch of f-bombs while talking. The acoustics of the restaurant can be loud. I'm not taking a star away for that though!

Yelp
Came here because of Yelp reviews then realized I've been here before! Made a reservation and when we got there at 7 on Friday night, the inside was hopping and very noisy with folks enjoying the food and company. Thankfully the weather was cool enough to sit outside where it was much quieter, even with the busy street noise. This is a place you go to for the food, not the ambience. We started with delicious margaritas-I got the jalapeño- and the combo trio of guacamole and queso fundido and salsa. Portions so generous we were kind of full, but we plowed ahead and had dinner. Tortilla soup was thick, tasty, and could have been an entree. Among four of us we had shrimp, fish, beef, chicken and pork tacos plus barbacoa and wild mushroom enchiladas. Everything I tasted was delicious! Despite our mound of leftovers we took back, we still had to try the churros-so unique with Bavarian cream inside. Overall delicious with super friendly service too!

Yelp
For an appetizer, we ordered Oaxaca Fundido... Oaxaca cheese melted over longaniza sausage, roasted jalapeno, mushrooms, caenelized oniin, and epazote with fresh homemade corn tortillas. One of my fellow diners is not a mushroom guy, but he kept going back for more! One of my favorite dishes! Hatch green chili pork - slow roasted pork, jalapeños, New Mexico hatch chilies, cilantro, fresh garlic, topped with jack cheese with house made corn tortillas. It is on their appetizer menu but I love it so much, I often have them prepare it for me as an entree. Perfection in how the pork is cooked, the chilies and sauce are heavenly, and an incredible mountain of yummy cheese My dining companions ordered tacos - pretty much one of about everything on the menu. Everyone was very pleased. I also had the mango margarita on the rocks with a Tajin rim. Loved it!! This was my 8th or 9th trip here... I salivate every time I think of going! LOL :)

Yelp
Hanging out in Midtown at my favorite coffee shop and was in the mood for some Tacos. A quick Yelp search and I found Cocina Madrigal. It had really good reviews and a few vegetarian options for me to try. I wasn't sure what to get so I decided to get 2 different options. Roasted seasonal vegetables tacos with carrots, broccoli, onions, mushrooms and peppers with rice and beans. These were very good even in the corn tortillas which I'm not a big fan of. Wild mushroom enchiladas wild mushrooms, avocado relish. These were also good. They have margaritas and alcoholic beverages so next time I stop by I will definitely dine in.

Yelp
After seeing the accolades given as best Mexican restaurant in the top 100 on Yelp we made reservations on Yelp to visit with my phoenix family on a Sunday at 5 pm. The location is south of downtown past I -10 . Their small parking lot was full maybe with employees vehicles so we parked on the narrow street . The restaurant was packed so glad we had reservations. There is both north & south side covered patios , a main dining area inside and another is busy bar area where we were seated near the back kitchen entrance . Our server was very helpful , friendly , & efficient. Suggestions were made to try the beef filet tacos and wild mushrooms large enchiladas. We tried the appetizer trio with guacamole , hot skillet of cheese mushrooms and more, plus very good chips & salsas. Also the chicken tortilla soup , hardly with loads of chicken not spicy broth and street corn . As we waited for our meal a California celebrity comedian Will Farrell came in with a LA Dodgers baseball cap came in after the Dodgers vs Diamondbacks spring training game in Glendale . He was seated in our small bar dining area with great excitement from the staff patrons and staff alike . The owner was there to give him the VIP " treatment but we didn't feel neglected. The3 beef tacos , 2 large wild mushroom enchiladas, large burrito, and 3 taco trio including shrimp and beef were a requested trio also . The most popular choice by our party were the beef tacos recommended by the owners son ,hardy with homemade ? tortillas and topped with crumbled blue cheese it seemed I don't know if that's a Mexican cheese with another name , but different from my experience. The burro and enchiladas both very large . No refried beans which I enjoy more than the small cups of red beans served . The food the chef /owners was a fusion twist of Mexican American style and blend of two cultures . The authentic old building ,local chefs inspired cuisine make this a favorite. The icy margaritas from the bar were with a tequila " kick . I'm glad we made the effort to try this highly rated local restaurant. The food was made fresh with " love" you could taste. It reminded me of a Tucson favorite Mi Nidito ( sadly just sold ) but to continue the same hopefully . Great food , service , and very popular. It's worth the effort to fund, park , wait if needed to experience Cafe Madrigal in southwest Phoenix. With great expectation and anticipation I was impressed and not disappointed!

Yelp
My go to Mexican Restaurant in Phoenix!! I am honestly shocked I've never written a review before. We bring every out of town guest to eat here, and encourage locals to check it out if they haven't been either. #1 priority is making a reservation! This place is always absolutely packed. Seating inside and outside is extremely close together, I'm talking bump chairs with the person sitting behind you close, but the food is just THAT good that people don't even care. Their margs are *strong* (prickly pear is my favorite), and the queso fundido is to die for. DO NOT pass it up. I love it so much I typically get the mushroom enchiladas as well. Portion sizes are great and service is quick. They have both indoor and outdoor seating available, a tiny parking lot, and neighborhood street parking available. You bet I'll be back again!

Yelp
Finally got to try this famous Cocina Madrigal. There are plenty of parking spots, and the place is pretty spacious and cozy. Ordered enchiladas and chicken burger, they were both yum. Rice and beans come with enchiladas were soooo fresh and yum, I think i could just eat those alone lol and the chicken patty was yum too. I was surprised! Oh and ordered mango? salsa on the side, this was something. I recommend order it if you like something spicy, this will def make everything taste even better!

Yelp
We stumbled upon this suggestion for this small mom and pop courtesy of Yelp reviews and location we were staying overnight by the airport. While some reviews stated concern about the location, it seemed safe to me. If we had waited until much after 12 noon, parking would have been a challenge. 11:30 am was perfect. I can picture if you're trying to find it in the dark and have to park in an adjacent business or home, you might not feel comfortable. We started off with frozen margaritas, one house and one Chambord with sugar rims. Our server was also the bartender, and he was open with suggestions. Both maggies were delicious. We added the freshly made guacamole with caramelized pineapple. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this was rather chunky. I was hoping that the pineapple would add a touch to get me to like guac more, but no mas. House made tortilla chips so fresh that they are still warm! I ordered the birria enchiladas, but split it as one birria and one chicken also. Both mouth watering, and the red beans and Mexican rice made it like stepping in your mamma's kitchen. My guest ordered the Crispy Salmon with shrimp. She was confused about the usage of mashed potatoes. We thought about take out, but don't have a microwave in our hotel room, but we still couldn't leave without trying these Churros. The bartender said that it is one of the few items which they don't make in their tiny kitchen. You wouldn't be able to tell as they were an OMG experience from first bite. All the staff here seem to be enjoying themselves, so it's hard to imagine it getting any better than this.

Yelp
This review is for take out - We ordered the tacos and the enchiladas. The menu doesn't state this, but you can mix and match tacos so we got an al pastor, tropical fish, and the beef tenderloin steak. All tacos were generously stuffed, despite looking small. Favorite (and most interesting taco by far) was the beef tenderloin steak with the blue cheese. If you don't like blue cheese, this probs lynisng for you - but if you like blue cheese or are even open to it, I'd recommend trying it. The flavors balanced so well and it was a party on my palette. Al pastor and fish were both well seasoned and yummy, but the star was the steak. Birria enchiladas were...good...not great. Granted, I'm not big into enchiladas, but it just wasnt anything special imo. Beans and rice were well seasoned and good sides for the dish. Overall a great meal!

Yelp
The enchiladas here are so amazing ! The service is always so efficient and kind ! They are whiling to share their favorite plates and provide recommendations! It is an older establishment very hold in the wall feel but the food is one of the best in the city !

Yelp
This was our first time in and they had reservations only or open bar. We didn't have a reservation and we were lucky to find a spot at the bar. This place is a well oiled machine, they are quick, smooth, accurate and friendly. The food, culinary gold! The tacos were some of the best I have ever had, that beef tenderloin ! The grilled elote is absolutely incredible and the churros are made to order, does it get any better?! Don't forget your margarita, so good! They have plenty of seating, moderate noise level as they wants friends and families that are telling stories and having a good time. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

Yelp
I wish Cocina Madrigal was closer to where I live!!! Actually, it's probably good that it isn't nearby, since I would be here way too frequently and that wouldn't be good for my waistline. We ended up ordering the guac/salsa/chips as a starter (the guac was better than many guacamoles I've had where they make it tableside at fancy restaurants). The stars of the day were the crispy salmon (I KNOW, who orders salmon at a Mexican restaurant? well you definitely should) and the wild mushroom enchiladas. The fare isn't typical street taco Mexican food and it somewhat higher end, although the setting is still a hole-in-the-wall scenario. We came at lunchtime on a weekend and there was a slight wait, so others have definitely discovered this star - plan accordingly!

Yelp
We sat outside on a Saturday for an early dinner and luckily got in just before the crowds started forming. This place is small but they do have outdoor seating. I ordered the steak and al pastor tacos. They were different...never had a taco with Gorgonzola before, but everything was very good. I requested the spicer habanero salsa which provided just the right amount of acidity to the food. I would love to come back and try other items on the menu!

Yelp
I love going here with my family! The food is delicious. All their portions are huge. The service is very quick and you can't skip the churros that's the best part.

Yelp
Went here tonight for the first time and loved it. We had a reservation (highly recommend it is very busy at all hours) and got there at 6:20 for our 6:30 reservation for 2. Parking was tight and we had to park way down the street but it was not horrible. The food was quick and service was great, everything tasted amazing and I liked that I was able to mix and match my enchiladas instead of getting two of the same ones. It's a little tight inside but there was also outside seating and it had more of a homey authentic feel to it, nothing overly fancy. Overall great great food and good portions, would go here again and plan to! The churros dessert was SO good, I'm usually picky with churros and this one was great.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Monday based on the reviews. Quite crowded, needed reservations for indoor dining, so we ended up sitting outside. It was ok except all the noise from the cars on the street. However it was more quiet than inside dining. Ordered a Indio beer off the menu, but they were out of it. Ordered mix/match enchiladas Beef Birria/chicken. They were good, as well as the rice/beans were very flavorful. I would order something different next time. The tacos looked really good and were quite big. Waiter asked if we would like some chips/salsa while still looking over the menu. We said ya, sure. Would've been nice to know we were getting charged for them. I didn't want them that bad.

Yelp
It doesn't get better than this. The guacamole to go with your chips was very good. Maintains the avocado taste with the addition of great texture. The hot salsa is the perfect compliment to chips and guacamole. The star of the show is the steak tacos. They are the best tacos ever. Second best isn't close. I tried the chicken enchilada which was also very good but I don't know why you'd eat anything but these steak tacos if that were an option.

Yelp
Finally made it here!! Been on my bookmarks for over a year!! First, this place needs better AC in AZ in the summer. Rant over! Started with chips and salsa and a order of house made guacamole. Delicious!! The salsa was amazing, some of the best. The guac was good, could use some lime and salt, but was defiantly freshly made. Tacos -- ordered 2 steak and 1chicken. On the steak I don't like Gorgonzola so they kindly swapped for cotija cheese. The steak tacos were delicious -- probably some of the most tender steak I have ever had. ORDER THESE! The chicken was okay -- chicken is mushy like crockpot chicken, but has good flavor. It was a texture thing for me. The meat to tortilla ratio is on point!! Birria Enchiladas had good flavor, but needed more sauce -- they were very dry. Overall they were decent but had room for improvement. Beware this place is warm -- the area we sat in was like a enclosed patio. It was hot, especially in this Phoenix heat. The service was not great -- drinks were empty most of the visit which was not great with how hot we were. Servers seem to chat at the hostess stand most of the time -- not impressed with this at all.

Yelp
Cocina Madrigal was my first restaurant visit in Arizona. We ate outside since the weather was nice so I can't say much for the interior feel. The servers were nice and had no issues answering our questions regarding the menu. I was a huge fan of the elote and beef birria enchiladas. The margaritas were small but good! I will be back.

Yelp
The food is phenomenal! I'd die for a wild mushroom enchilada! The freshest chips with mango habanero The staff was always willing to help and were so great at their job, keeping us hydrated from the habanero. Situated in a house on southern, the vibes were always great, hustle and bustle but Livy and worth it! Please! Come back to us!

Yelp
Tried this spot on a Saturday early afternoon and was able to be seated immediately. We were excited after all the hype around this place. The food did not disappoint, everything was very good. You can mix and match tacos or enchilada varieties, we tried the beef tenderloin, and shrimp tacos, and the chicken and barbacoa enchiladas. Let me start with the chips and salsa; pretty good but not spectacular, the chips were warm, but the salsa was uninspired, nothing special. You can order the Habanero salsa as well, and combining that with the regular red salsa helped elevate it. We also tried the queso fundido, but, unfortunately it was more of a mushroom fundido, ratio of mushrooms to cheese was way off. There was was probably a teaspoon of cheese and what felt like 1000 mushrooms in it. The handmade corn tortillas they serve with it are phenomenal!!! The beef tenderloin tacos were delicious, and very unique, with gorgonzola cheese and french fried onions, it was hard to reconcile the different flavors, but it all worked together nicely. Barbacoa Enchiladas were delicious, rice and beans just ok, and the churro dessert was very good. Ambiance is ok, just a small and older place with flickering lights occasionally. All in all a very good experience.

Yelp
So incredibly delicious!!! And the service was so fast! We've been twice now and we had such a pleasant experience both times. Be careful in the summer though, it's hot inside!! They have some TVs for sports which is a huge plus in my family, so it's a great place to have a nice dinner but also enjoy a fun, lively atmosphere. Some of my favorites: Wild mushroom enchiladas Beef taco Tropical fish taco Al pastor taco Typically I'm not a blended margarita person, but it's a must here!!! Get a mango jalapeño margarita- delicious!!! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This was my first time here and my family had been raving about this place for so long. I was so excited to get to try the food while on vacation. Have to say, sort of a let down. We started with chips and salsa and guacamole, the chips were awesome and perfectly salted which is always a challenge because usually restaurants are conservative on salt (which I get), but the salsa was less salsa and more tomato sauce seasoned. The guacamole didn't taste like it was fresh and was mostly onion in each bite. I don't mind onion but I expected more. I had the chicken burrito for my entree because my uncle raved it was amazing, it left me disappointed. The plate is huge so it's good quantity for price but the beans are whole rather than refried. Different but not bad and we're seasoned well, the rice was not seasoned at all and terribly bland. The chicken in the burrito is moist and shredded, not very flavorful but decent. The burrito itself had little flavor beside spice, the lettuce would have been better on the side where I can add fresh crisp leaves tot he bite rather than cooked and flavorless lettuce. Just do spinach in the case. It is packed with chicken but was very lackluster. Sour cream does help to get something of taste. Service was great, our server was attentive and informative and made my cousin happy by saying you can mix and match taco choices. The ambiance is casual but super loud. It was really hard to hear our table. All in all, I don't see the hype, and this seems more catered for a crowd that doesn't really know what the flavor palate of Mexican food is a restaurant step below certain fast food chains. Hard pass for me in the future.

Yelp
I heard about Cocina Madrigal from family friends. When a co-worker and I traveled to the area for work I knew I had to go as I LOVE Mexican food and it was supposed to be the best. We sat inside because, well Phoenix, it is hot! The vibe was small hometown Mexican restaurant. I do not generally go to chains so this was already a win for me! We went early anticipating it being busy and were seated right away. The staff was friendly as could be and the place had a line by the time we left. The food. Go big or go home, right!? The best Mexican ever meant I would be ordering and eating way more then I should. Started with the Prickly Pear Marg which was out of this world. I ordered 2 more during this eating frenzy. For an appetizer we went with Oaxaca Fundido and WOW it was SO GOOD! I highly recommend this! Onto burrito and a variety of tacos. The meat in all was tender and flavorful. The sauces and toppings complemented each so well. I truly wanted to order more tacos, but I was out of room. That being said, we couldn't leave without having Churros! Everything was over-the-top good and I continually think about this mean every time I eat Mexican. Nothing else compares.

Yelp
Finally!!!! I got around to trying this spot after hearing all the hype. I went in with VERY high expectations and it might have been to a fault. The restaurant itself is unexpectedly in a neighborhood in south mountain. As mentioned in many reviews, the parking is tricky and limited. The restaurant itself is inviting and we actually got seated right away. The ambiance is casual & family friendly. We started with the trio chips and salsa. I loved the habanero salsa it was spicy and flavorful and I'd go back for more! I had the enchilada plate one chicken and one barbacoa. Which were not bad but did not live up to the hype for me. The rice and beans were okay. Overall, I was expecting a lot more flavorful food from reading the reviews.

Yelp
For my 1000th review and 250th for the year, I wanted to showcase one of the best meals I have had this year. This meal went down at Cocina Madrigal in Phoenix. I tend to go pretty hard on researching the cities I travel to. I went into a deep dive all the best restaurants to hit while in town, and Cocina Madrigal came up on every list. It consistently ranks as one of the Top 100 on Yelp and was crowned number one in 2022. It's also made other notable lists as well as many media outlets. To say we were excited was an understatement. From the outside, it looks like any other taqueria. I wouldn't call it fancy, but the way they present themselves and the food says otherwise. I didn't do enough research because I did not know they recommend reservations. We came on a Saturday afternoon and this place was busy. At first they said it would be a wait, or we could sit out on their hot patio. The Yelp gods then showed us mercy and a table happened to open up right then. We were seated and Luis took great care of us from start to finish. The owners or managers were also continuously rounding to make sure all guests were happy. They have an impressive drinks list if you want to partake. Most of the focus is on tequila and they have quite the collections. We started off with a quality anejo tequila. My friends wanted to show us a new to me way to chase a shot with a slice of orange sprinkled with cinnamon. Come to find out, that's how they serve it here anyways. Off to a great start. We then got a round of prickly pear frozen margaritas that were so good and refreshing. On to the food. They have a menu with quite a few options. They have apps, salads and even burgers. But their top sellers are the tacos and enchiladas. We all knew we wanted tacos and enchiladas but couldn't decide on one particular flavor. We were told we could mix and match both items. Talk about great customer service! For my tacos I went with their three top sellers: Beef Tenderloin Steak, Oaxaca Shrimp, and Al Pastor. I would say this place is pretty traditional, but they do add a little flare to the tacos. For instance, the steak taco had blue cheese and fried peppers. Those little touches and unique flavors made for some of the best tacos we've had. Not one taco was left behind. For the enchiladas, our table wanted to share one plate just to try their famous Wild Mushroom enchiladas. Our server over heard us mentioning we also wanted to try the Beef Birria enchiladas so he said we could mix and match that too. Man, those enchiladas were the truth, especially the mushroom one. I could see why it's one of their top sellers. We've been craving it since we left. We also knew their churros were a fan favorite so we had to try that. These were not your average churros. These were Bavarian cream filled fried just right, with a creme anglaise and caramel sauce. These were amazing too. What a great way to end our meal. This meal was one of the highlights our trip to the desert and no regrets were had. I already loved the city, but I would come back just for another meal here as well.
