I remember eating here as a child, and my wife also grew up eating here frequently. We've visited as adults too, some years ago. We had fond memories and longed to return.
The first thing that put us off a bit, was that their posted Health grade had fallen to a "B". At mid-morning on a Saturday, there was only one other family eating in the dining room when we arrived. We had a mild debate about whether or not to go ahead with eating here, before finally agreeing on it. A few more folks did show up during our meal.
I wish to say that our waitress did a good job and was quite nice. Our food arrived looking impressive, but it turns out the "cottage potatoes" were the best part. The biscuits and gravy were lackluster. We were unpleasantly surprised that both of our omelettes were empty inside... no cheese! Too dry. Even an offer to at least upsell us some cheese would have been welcome.
Flies were bothering us. I know that's a bit beyond their control, as this town is kind of famous for them. Then, my wife was about to use the cloth napkin provided, but there was a little bug on it. I think it's called a carpet beetle. I realize this could be a fluke and I don't like to dwell excessively on such things, but it did add to our overall disappointment. We used to love this place but I'm sad to say I can't foresee us returning.
