Arugambay Coco Bay

Not sure why half the reviews are for a hotel in Ella. This is for Arugam Bay Coco Bay: Apart from the good AC and breakfast there's not much to like. Staff were unfriendly and seemed annoyed by our presence, rooms are dark, hotel seems unfinished, bathroom was old and dirty. Definitely overpriced. It's lucky they are in such a good spot. Rooms have no tea/coffee, soap or any extra amenities. It just feels like they don't care anymore. For the price it's super basic. Not worth the money, but good if you want to be tucked away in the quiet area of Arugam Bay.

Amazing place! Rooms are spacious enough, have hot water and most importantly the AC works perfectly! Best AC we’ve had on our whole Sri Lankan road trip. The rooms get cleaned every day, towels and sheets are changed ever second day. The lady who was cleaning our room did better job than five star resort’s housekeeping staff, no joke! Best location! You sure will sleep well at this place, bed is so comfy and it is situated in quiet street away from noisy main street but still short walking distance to cafes and restaurants. Also just 5mins walk to the main point. Thinesh is amazing and always makes sure you have everything needed. Honestly, if you like to surf and have a good sleep, you wont find better place in Abay than this.

My wife and 2 teenage sons stayed at Coco bay for 5 nights and had a great time. The rooms are spacious and kept lovely and clean. The pool is awesome, we used it A LOT :) The beach is lovely and kept clean by the staff, they have a surf board available for guests and a staff member takes lessons if you are a learner. We ate at Coco bay for all meals. The included breakfast was tasty (especially the Sri Lankan brekkie) and plentiful enough that we were sorted until Dinner. Dinners were yum and could be delivered to the room (Which the boys loved) The staff are all lovely and made a real effort to make our stay awesome. All in all, a great stay.

Apart from the amazing view everything else about this place unfortunately feels like a scam. The place is completely overpriced for what it is and also compared to other places in Ella, expensive as it is of course they still want the payment only in cash... The entire hotel is an unfinished construction site, there is no hot water, smelly bathroom, very bad ventilation and air in the room. A lot of little things are also missing to make it a comfortable stay - no place to put your luggage, no plugs or lights near the bed. The only plus here were the beanbags on the terrace.

the hotel is a 5-7 minute walk from the main town area and there is no assistance with luggage. The hotel is still under construction or looked like it. It is basic and we had to call them when we reached to find someone to show us to our room. The room has basic furniture and is ok for a night or 2 not more. There was no wifi (the password never worked) and no hot water (when we asked we were told we can take a shower in the next room). Also since there isn't a bathtub, the whole bathroom is wet every time you take a shower. The door had a slit so a lot of insects kept coming into the room at night. Apart from this, they do not accept card payment, even though it said so on booking.com. The view is probably the only redeeming factor (you can see Adam’s peak from your room and a million stars at night). The lady who cleans the rooms was nice enough but couldn’t really do much. Definitely over priced for what you get.

DO NOT BOOK! We had this booked months in advance and a few days before they have asked us to cancel. I can see they still have availability and have doubled the cost per night so they are trying to make more money out of us. It has really disrupted our travels, trying to find new accommodation very last minute. Save yourself the hassle and do not book here.

Lovely little resort very close to the beach. Lovely rooms, really quiet and relaxed vibes. Only a few minute walk from the main strip. Loved my stay here hope to come back!
