I got the breakfast flat bread. It was quite good. I didn’t really taste any blue cheese but otherwise the flavours were nice. It was extremely filling as they were generous with the brisket and eggs.

Soooo good. We stopped here on the way to the volcano site. We had the creme brulee french toast, the CBP pancakes and the traditional eggs Benedict. We all devoured our meals. The service was great and friendly since the moment we walked in. Great family environment with a great view of water. We even saw turtles! Would definitely come back.

I brought my mom here on Mothers Day. The waitress was great. The food was another story. At first glance I thought it would be good. I ordered the rib eye tips, they were flavorless. There was barely any meat on the plate & about 5 pieces of that small amount was pieces of fat. My mom ordered the coconut shrimp plate. When it came out it wasn't hot. Both her rice & my rice was hard. Then there was a hard undercooked carrot & hard undercooked broccoli on her plate. I ate here a few years ago & it was great. The plate came out with steam & was delicious. We were so disappointed with the quality this time we decided to refuse our plates & eat elsewhere. For the price of the food we were shocked at how bad the meal was. If you enlarge the steak plate I drew Arrows to show the fat pieces that should have been steak. Also the pale tomatoes, they are supposed to be red. Highly disappointed. :(

Honestly, came in really late about 45 minutes before closing and Naomi was extremely welcoming and helpful! the popcorn shrimp scrumptious, twisted fries fire, Kilauea Lava cake on Kona coffee Ice cream DELICIOUS! MUST EAT HERE!

Google
It’s a cute place with a water view in Hilo. Good menu with a wide range of options! The service was a tad slow (but they literally had one waitress for all tables). Would definitely go back there!

Google
Food was amazing, I had the brûlée french toast and she had the steak which was well seasoned and delicious. Service was also very friendly. Orange juice was a little on the small side. Highly recommend !

Google
Was reading reviews for a quick lunch/dinner before catching our flight back to Oahu. They did not disappoint. Fish nachos, BBQ sliders, and fish Tikis. Service was great. If you are ever in Helo, stop in here for some good food

Google
Delicious food and superb customer service! Scottlyn took great care of us—she was terrific. We ordered from the Happy Hour menu and enjoyed the Popcorn Shrimp, cocktails, and the Pulehu Prime. Everything was delicious, and the Pulehu Prime was served sizzling hot on a cast-iron skillet—perfection! One of our best meals in Hilo. We will be back! v/r, Dr. Ken and Lorna King

Yelp
Great variety of items on the menu! All kinds. I ended up with the French Dip. My sissy had the Lobster sandwich. Had difficulty choosing! The best part was the Bloody Marys! Omg. I could have had just THAT for brunch - Not one, but two skewers of bacon wrapped shrimp, of course celery, olives and a lime wedge. They no mess around. It was beautiful! Hahaha... Enjoyed watching our local kids across the street at Ice Pond catching fish and jumping into the water! Gotta go again soon...

Yelp
The restaurant has a view of the water which was nice! To me it felt homey, family diner style type of restaurant. Everyone was extremely friendly! The food was delicious, they had some cool stuff on the menu! We tried the ginormous chicken waffle sandwich and the stuffed French toast! Highly recommend!

Yelp
The food was ok. I ordered the pork ribs, a little dry in some edges- the bake potato was overly whipped and made too starchy- it is pre-made to resemble "twice baked potato"- no sour cream but, crumbled bacon and cheese mixed together. The side of baked beans were tooo sweet and not to my liking- another guest had a hamburger which was BIG! She asked no onions and it had. Our other guest ordered the Hawaiian Luau plate- there was no complaint there. Service was busy and we had to ask for us to be served- they forgot about us. Ambiance ok. Families, casual wear- parking on the street/ popular place. Go early in the day- it might be fresher food.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our dinner hear last week. The service was fast and friendly. The restaurant was nice inside and had a big menu full of goodies. We got a yummy French dip with onion rings and some kind of steak veggie rice plate that was also great. The fried ice cream trio dessert was huge and tasty after a long day. I definitely recommend this place for a casual meal when in Hilo.

Yelp
Spent my sisters birthday here, food is always delicious, food service is fast, customer service is very nice we enjoyed our sister time. Thank you for having us. Price is decent.

Yelp
1 pancake = 2 pounds of awesomeness. Came here for the MacNut/Banana/Coconut Sauce special- did not disappoint. Enough for 2. Mahalo!

Yelp
Came here for breakfast with some friends. They open at 8am, so a little later than most places for breakfast. We had the Benedict, Mauna Kea, Pancakes and French Toast. All was really good. Pancake/Waffle/French Toast portions were huge. Benedict portion seemed small. Service was good, but they did forget one item with our order and it never came.

Yelp
I enjoyed the coconut shrimp tikis. The visual display was intriguing and the flavor was delicious. Our waitress, Scottlyn, was phenomenal. She was super friendly and was gracious to accommodate all of the menu customizations requested by our family of four. Five stars for Scottlyn's outstanding customer service! All in all, our family enjoyed our dining experience and recommend Coconut Grill as a great place to go for a relaxing, flavorful evening meal.

Yelp
This was right next to the hotel we stayed at Hotel so we came here for breakfast. We got seated right away. The omelet punulu was literally so bland that my hubby and I couldn't eat it. But we were hungry so we ate. No salt, no pepper, no seasonings, nothing. The 3 stars is for CBP the coconut banana pancake. This was so yummy and topped with macadamia nuts. So unique. They first cook it and then bake it. Makes the pancake so crispy and crunchy while the insides are quite soft and moist. Must try! Fresh papaya was very fresh. Yum. Service was fairly slow. Coffee was ok.

Yelp
Stopped in as we were aimlessly wondering on Valentines Day. Lots of places and zero availability and they worked us in. The fish and chips was a good beer battered crunch and fries were hot. I enjoyed the presentation and overall taste. The steamed veggies were lackluster and better had they just been left off. Wife had the prime rib sandwich and it was okay. I would say the menu was limited and not a lot of choices.

Yelp
If you are looking for another unassuming locals place away from downtown, head over towards Banyan Drive and check out Coconut Grill. The food is made with love and is pretty darn good. We wandered in here and had the sizzling prime rib and the angel hair pasta with shrimp. We were warmly greeted and seated right away. Having been a waitress in my past, I was impressed with how well the staff worked together. This type of service is lacking these days but not here in HI where the spirit of ohana prevails. 5 stars to the entire staff which includes the Chef. Our food came out quickly which was actually a refreshing change. My prime rib was truly sizzling and very tender. I asked for a side of brown rice because I needed something to help with sucking up the beef juices. I would say that adding a side vegetable would be nice IMO. Hubby really enjoyed his pasta. He commented on how well the vegetables were cooked (spinach, zucchini and mushrooms) to be al dente and the shrimp was perfect. The shrimp had a "snap" . The only addition to the dish could be chili flakes and a bit more al dente in his opinion. The spinach artichoke was delightfully different and old school. The slices of bread are warm which is refreshing to take that extra step on quality. The dessert menu looks amazing but the expense and size of the portion is frightening. Next time, visit for dessert. For visitors, there is a fee on the take out containers which I hadn't experienced in my state as much. This is a cool, down home, locals place that produces really good food that is served by a staff that are a happy ohana.

Yelp
We were staying at the hotel next door. Very convenient location. I had the fettuccine with grilled shrimp. There were lots of vegetables and shrimp. It was delicious! Portion was a lot. I wasn't able to finish it. My husband had the furikake chicken and all that was left was a scoop of rice. He said it was yummy! Staff were friendly and we didn't wait for our food. Lots of dining space and had Hawaiian decor. Their breakfast was delicious too!

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food at this restaurant. The portions were of adequate side and everything was very tasty. Great location over looking ice pond, with a view of Hilo bay in the distance. It is at a hotel so street parking in front may be a little scarce if you go before the visitors have left for the day. There are three spots in the back of the restaurant. The servers were friendly and attentive to our needs. So skip Ken's and head on over to Coconut Grill

Yelp
Starting off with the food, it was delish. I order the Kahaluu Eggs Benedict with crab cake.. so good! I really enjoyed the CBP Coconut Banana Pancake with Coconut syrup and macadamia nuts. It's a must try when you visit Coconut Grill. Service was ok but it took a while to get our food. The restaurant looks clean and friendly waiters/waitresses. I would definitely try this place again.

Trish G.

Yelp
Servers were wonderful. Very attentive. Food was fabulous and no wait at all. Desert is saying 'I will come back here, again'!

Yelp
Poor restaurant management. We called CG on Monday, 2 days before Xmas Day, to confirm that they were open for Happy Hour on Xmas Day and were told "yes", between 2:00 and 5:00. We called again on Xmas Day at around 1:00 to confirm and were told "yes" between 2:00 and 5:00. When we arrived Xmas Day at 4:00, we were told the restaurant was closed and would reopen at 5:00. Need to get your act together.

Yelp
Nice place, convenient; since we stayed next door, and beautiful scenery. Ordered eggs Benedict with crab was ono. Friendly staff.

Yelp
Food and service was amazing! Peekaboo view of the water, quiet, great prices, and attentive service. I'll be back!

Yelp
We had ribs and a salad. Finished off with reconstructed banana cream pie. The ribs were fall off the bone wonderful, salad really nice with a good dressing (miso I think). The pie was oh my gosh so good! Went back a few days later for a snack. Husband didn't really like pork sliders, but my pina colada smoothie was great! Sliders had purple buns, which may have been the reason that he didn't really like them. Said they left an odd taste in his mouth.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us twice and the food looked great so we decided to check it out and it was in fact pretty good. The service was also good. I would definitely go back.

Yelp
This was a last-minute find for our final night in Hilo when we'd exhausted most other options. It was fine. Nothing to write home about. Place was nearly empty the entire time we were there. Coconut tiki shrimp and kalua pork plates were decent enough. The crab cakes were awfully disappointing. Drinks seemed watered down. But food came out quickly and hot and service was solid. Atmosphere rather dull and uninspired although they did have some nice paintings of Hawaiian legends by a local artist that we admired.
google avatar

Carmencita S.

Yelp
The service was quick and friendly, however the food and place is less to be desired. The place smells like wet mop (maybe because I was there during rainy days - Oct 31, 2024). The food is not worth its price except for the sizzling steak that was good enough. This place is convenient if you're staying on this side of Hilo.
google avatar

Kahea R.

Yelp
The food is good, some items are a bit pricey but the quality and taste of the food is worth it. The service is also great.

Yelp
I stayed at da adjoined hotel several times and never through to try this place out. Brought my mom to Moku o Keawe (Big Island) for Mother's Day weekend. Pretty much all of our usually spots was not giving us life this visit. So on the recommendation of my dad who was back home on Oahu, he told us to try this place out cuz he read some reviews online giving this restaurant high praises. The staff were very friendly and I loved that it was attached to our hotel. The food was worth the price. This trip was not lost.
google avatar

M Kees L.

Yelp
Food was tasteless and bland except the sizzling prime. As we walked in, stank with wet map. It's dingy, we went back to the hotel with bites on our legs...

Yelp
Nice easy diner. Nothing fancy, just good simple cooking. It was the night before Thanksgiving so it was about 1/3 full at about 8pm. Our server was super nice. She gave honest good suggestions. I got the seafood crepes which she warned me was not too big but that was fine. It was actually a perfect amount. We got served some bread and dip which is unusual these days. The dip was pretty Ono! We split Mac nut ice cream with chocolate lava cake. It could have used more fudge sauce and skip the strawberry or whatever the red syrup on it was. But otherwise it was good. The prices were super reasonable too!

Sam B.

Yelp
We stopped in with friends, and I was very impressed. The food was excellent, but I have to say the staff was so wonderful. There was a young lady who actually was filling in because she usually had gone home from the morning shift and she's learning to become a teacher, she was excellent. She made us laugh and she made the meal so much better.

Yelp
I had one of the worst experiences of my dining life here! We came for happy hour that was advertised at three, however when we walked in all they had was late lunch menu, which was very limited. We finally ordered and then we waited and waited and waited! Almost an hour! When we asked how much longer? They went and checked and said almost ready which it wasn't! Then when we finally got it. I had ordered a mushroom dish. It was basically inedible, however I ate a portion of it because I so hungry! Then I ended up eating half of my friends sandwich which was a French dip and it was very good! When I went to pay I told them I didn't want to pay for mine and then they eventually decided to take half off. Which I wasn't happy with! They said it was because I ate half of it. I told them that after waiting an hour I was so hungry I had to force it down! Do disappointed in this place, will never go back there again!

Yelp
The food was awesome. The wait service was really great. Not only our waiter was taking care of the table but other waiters and the manager stopped by to see if we needed anything. The area is not that crowded so you don't feel like you eating with your neighbor. I had the Kalbi breakfast and he had the prime rib hash which came out sizzling on the plate.

Yelp
It was a little after 12pm and I really wanted a local style breakfast but other places were super packed. So we decided to stop in and give it a try; it's been years since I've been here. Anyways, from the menu we ordered: Cobb Salad Big Island Sliders Hawaiian Chopped Steak Kahuna Burger My son said the sliders were too fancy and didn't taste anything like a pulled pork sliders should; I laughed and gave him the salad. He ate the ham, eggs, and chicken from it. I thought the chopped steak was alright, different with the sauce being sweet, but the meat was soft and tender. So that was good. I was told the Kahuna burger could've been less dry but for a burger it was good.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was good. Coffee was good. I'd go again. Parking is a challenge.

Yelp
First time in Hilo, one of the lady from our hotel recommended this place. Galbi was a 7 but customer service a 3. Our server never came after she served our food within 20-24 mins No water refills and napkins. I would probably get seated by the front

Yelp
We had breakfast at Coconut Grill over the weekend, and I must say it was amazing! I had no complaints so let's talk about what we had. Breakfast Flatbread ($16.99) * Scrambled eggs, beef brisket, spinach, mozzarella, blue cheese, and a buttermilk ranch aioli over grilled flatbread. Notes: The flatbread was cooked beautifully and held its shape despite the colossal portions of brisket and eggs over the top. There was also a beautiful harmony between the mozzarella and its mild flavor paired with the pungency of the blue cheese. Rating: 8.6/10 ono loa Sizzling Prime Rib Hash ($21.99) * Half a pound of prime rib, caramelized onions, and grilled potatoes, all served with a pan au jus in a sizzling skillet with three large eggs cooked to your choosing. Note: WORTH EVERY PENNY! The meat was tender, juicy, and well-seasoned, and that au jus really reduced and created a beautiful caramelization and crust to the entire dish. Breaking the egg yolks over the top took things to the next level. So frickin good! Rating: 10/10 Pacifica Omelet ($17.99) * Dungeness crab, sweet rock shrimp, mushrooms, spinach, and mozzarella cheese stuffed in an omelet and doused in a housemade lemon and chive hollandaise sauce. Notes: This was pretty dang good! I would happily order this again if I'm in the mood for an omelet. There was a lot of crab meat and shrimp, so I greatly appreciated that. And the crab and shrimp meat were nice and sweet. Rating: 8.5/10 Mauna Kea Waffle ($13.99) * Cinnamon-dusted bananas flambéed with a Lahaina dark rum glaze and mac nuts. Notes: MAYJAH! This waffle stole the whole show! Lord knows I HATE bananas but THIS! The perfect way to end this wonderful meal. Rating:10/10 Note: Their iced tea with lilikoi is fantastic! It seems like they add the lilikoi juice or syrup as the base/bottom of the drink, and you stir it to distribute the flavor, but I highly recommend asking them to go a little heavier on the lilikoi! Maybe ask them to add some syrup on both the bottom and top. SO GOOD! Yelp
I almost didn't come back here because on a recent happy-hour visit they charged me something like $12 for a virgin margarita (offered by the waitress as being "like a lemonade") which was way more $$$ than just getting the regular happy hour margarita with alcohol. The waitress just kind of shrugged and said she couldn't do anything about it because that's how it was in the system. We stared at each other for a few minutes and I let it go, but the whole table laughed about it and the $12 virgin margarita has now entered mythical status. ANYWAY, they don't have the happy hour anymore since the start of the new year. Boo...... MOVING ON.... So after a tiring but happy day out on the water in Keaukaha, we ended up at Coconut Grill for dinner, and had such a great meal, we came back again the next night as well. Both servers were excellent. We got seated in the back of the room both times which initially annoyed me because there were window tables open, but it turns out sitting in the back is pretty great, because you can see the whole view instead of just one section of it. And they have one of the best water views in Hilo. First night, we had a side caesar salad ($7), French dip sandwich with onion rings, and house hamburger with fries (cheese deleted). We were wowed by the caesar which adds blue cheese to the standard parmesan. The burger with addition of fries or onion rings come out to about $23 but when they bring the burger to the table, your first thought is "wow" because it's huge and the shiny brioche bun is just gorgeous. It's a dream burger straight out of a magazine photo shoot. So, the second night we got the full caesar with grilled shrimp added (the full size also includes garlic bread), and a different burger that has sliced prime rib on top of the hamburger patty plus mushrooms and onions. Onion rings were decent but the fries beat them. I'd be willing to say these are the best burgers and fries in Hilo, with one of the best views, and great service, so I'd highly recommend. The lava flow cocktail was cute but needed an extra shot of dark rum to kick it up a notch. I'll order an extra shot on the side next time to dump in myself. Draft beers were reasonably priced and included a selection from a Hilo brewery. Possible improvements? If you're selling the view, wash the windows more often. Ideally you'd renovate the long windowless area to include some windows. And our full caesar salad the second night was overly swimming in dressing, which while delicious, was just too much dressing. (Not that I didn't clear the bowl, but more lettuce would have been welcomed.)

Yelp
HIGHLY RECOMMEND EATING HERE. My husband and I had excellent service, and an excellent meal here. Our server was kind, friendly, and gave us very helpful recommendations. We also had a Mai Tai, piñata colada and lilikoi cheesecake. ALL FANTASTIC! We left very full, happy and well taken care of.

Yelp
Incredible food, service and view. Price is high however. Went there for breakfast. My wife had the Mauna Kea Waffle and I had the Punalu'u omlet. We had 1 coffee, juice and water. Bill was $80 with tip.

Rajesh A.

Yelp
Absolutely slow service, unacceptable answers, food ordinary. Do yourself a favor. Avoid this place. Find food elsewhere. Four simple dishes took an hour.

Yelp
Staying at the SCP Hotel and didn't want to drive anywhere so we had dinner here. On a Thursday night, no wait, but it appeared that there was one hostess which she seated us and waited on us. While waiting for our food, was got a small plate of complimentary spinach artichoke dip - delicious. We ordered the Kalbi plate and the hibachi chicken plate. The brown rice was hard, the potato salad was yummy with a mix of regular and sweet potato. Both main entrees were delicious, but...they were very sweet! Like they were marinated for a long time. Service was good!

Susana L.

Yelp
Great service and good! The ribs were delicious, especially the cornbread and garlic mashed potatoes.

Yelp
My family and I just came here and received a very unwelcomed greeting. We wanted to try it despite the low reviews but understand now that the management is not service oriented. The manager told us we were the last people they were going to let order breakfast at 10am when the menu said breakfast until 10:30am. Definitely seemed uninviting to tourists. Go to Ken's House of Pancakes, great food and kind service!
google avatar

Russ S.

Yelp
Pricey, but good food. Small portions, but good Hawaiian representation in the menu. Kind servers. It's attached to the SCP, Hotel, which makes it very easy for guests.
google avatar

Maria A.

Yelp
We went here because the local location was convenient next to our hotel not a wise decision. There were cockroaches on the wall and the food was just OK
google avatar

Yelp
Breakfast there in December was awful. Service was ok and friendly.the fried rice was cold. The eggs were cold.

Beau T.

Yelp
Good service by really nice people. Great view of ice pond. The food was ok. Regards Beau Toichi
google avatar

Yelp
We came at a weird hour, so we only had the happy hour menu which was a limited menu. Everything we ordered was satisfactory. The pele lava flow was sooo good, would come back again for this. The popcorn shrimp was beer battered and crispy with a orange mayo sauce to dip. The Caesar salad was refreshing and well seasoned. The prime rib dip was my favorite!
google avatar

Troy C.

Yelp
I went on their site and requested a menu so we would know if we wanted to eat there. They responded with an automated reply, "We'll get back to you..." over a month and no reply. They might have good food...we will never know. We found somewhere else to eat.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm adding another Star after coming here multiple times to eat. The food is consistent, nothing really fancy, but Ono. Love eating breakfast here.

Elnora L.

Yelp
Always looking for some good loco moco. This version was delicious, especially with the added grilled onions and mushrooms.

Yelp
My friends and I came here for lunch on a Monday. The restaurant was not too crowded, so we were seated soon after we arrived. It is connected to the SCP hotel, so it can get crowded here. Food: I got the vegetarian antipasto pasta. The dish came with a good amount of pasta and veggies, but it was ultimately okay. One friend got Paniolo Pork Ribs and thought they were okay. Another friend got the Hukilau Seaside Melt and had wished there was more seafood on the melt. She also wasn't expecting it to be open-faced. Service: Service was okay. Our server was nice, but we didn't see much of them. It took some time to receive our bill after we were done eating. TL;DR - Not bad, but I think I'll come back if I'm ever in Hilo for dinner to see if there is a difference.
