Cocorico Guesthouse, Porto, Portugal - Explore & Book

"On the bohemian fringe of Porto’s Old Town, Cocorico Guesthouse is a pioneer of regeneration in an area already known for vibrant art and culture (the São João National Theatre is just a few minutes’ walk away). Two restored 18th-century townhouses have been knocked into one and the result is a beautifully furnished guesthouse that celebrates the long romance between France and Portugal – a theme which is evident in almost every detail. Inside, it’s all cool, tiled floors, lofty ceilings and ornate plasterwork, A cantilevered staircase limbers up to 10 elegant rooms and suites, each decorated with French antiques, wrought iron frames and original features. Most have super-sized, open-plan bathrooms and some have big balconies with folding doors, making them feel very romantic; the emphasis here is on couples, but there are three family rooms, too. Do linger in the cocktail bar, which serves excellent drinks and small plates, and there's a pretty terrace for alfresco dining on a balmy summers day. Cocorico means 'cock-a-doodle-doo' in French, and the colourful rooster, an emblem of Portugal, represents this nation’s love of life. You're invited to share this happy mindset and make yourself completely at home. Highs The rooms are light and generous, cleverly combining contemporary design with original features Brilliant location, quieter than most of central Porto but within walking distance of most of the city’s must-dos The team of first-class staff go all out to make guests feel at home - the atmosphere here is very welcoming and laid-back The cocktail bar's cool, shady courtyard is the perfect place to try a glass of chilled Dalva Espumante or one of Cocorico’s signature cocktails Lows No proper restaurant on-site; but plenty of eating options within walking distance The hotel is on a street that looks a little rundown, but any misgivings are dispelled the moment you cross the threshold Not everyone will love the open-plan bathrooms (fear not, the loos are separate and completely private) Views are not a strong point, though we rather liked the jumble of crumbling rooftops and wild gardens at the back of the house With wooden floors in an old building, noise carries" - Lesley Gillilan

What a wonderful place to stay! Great location--close to everything. Super, super staff--so helpful in every way, We had room #1---large, that included an amazing bathroom with a double shower and a double sink. We loved everything about it. And, breakfast is just wonderful. Couldn't recommend it more highly--especially if you're looking for a charming, more intimate place to stay. Don't look any further.

The most beautiful hotel room we’ve ever been in. The staff is so attentive and Super sweet! We absolutely loved our stay here and would highly recommend anyone. The location is also pretty close to everything. We rented a duplex for the family of four And it was absolutely amazing!

The staff were so welcoming and accommodating during our 3-night stay. The interior design of the entire hotel from the entry, reception, dining area, and rooms was exquisite and unique. It was a lovely place to return each day after exploring the city of Porto.

We had an outstanding stay at these beautiful guest houses! The rooms are huge and spectacularly decorated with moorish inspired bathrooms that take up half the room and provide a spa like experience. We appreciated the location which was central but quiet and easily walkable to everything. It was a very special and comforting place to be when the power went out in the entire country and they handed us a head lamp! Wonderful service too! Small notes - there were lots of sounds of running water in the room that made it hard to sleep at times.

We loved this old Porto house. Stunning bedrooms with full length windows, tall ceilings, double sinks and double showers and a super comfy bed. Downstairs tapas bar was lovely but lacked atmosphere as empty most of the time. We had rainy weather but the outside patio would be lovely in sunshine. Very nice service too.

We had an amazing three night stay at Cocorico. Everything was spotless, the facilities were well-maintained, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The two bedroom, two bathroom Family Suite was spacious for the three of us (it would easily work for four) and the included breakfast was a great way to start each day. The entire staff was incredibly kind, friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. What stood out the most was their support when my daughter was sick during our time in Porto. They helped us every step of the way, including arranging private transportation to Lisbon at the end of our stay, making a stressful situation so much easier to handle. We are deeply grateful for their care. I can’t recommend Cocorico enough!
