CoDE Co-Living – The LoFT - Edinburgh, a Design Boutique Hotel Edinburgh, United Kingdom

"CoDE Co-Living - The LoFT is set on Rose Street North Lane, just a short walk from Princes Street. It offers modern interiors within a red brick-clad period building. It offers rooms with bunk beds, a shared kitchen and a communal area. Each pod-style room at Code Hostel Edinburgh has a shower room and you can relax in bright communal areas, too. The hostel is within 10 minutes' walk of Edinburgh Waverly Railway Station, while Edinburgh Castle and the old town can be reached in around 15 minutes by foot." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

I stayed one night at THE LoFT as I was arriving too late in Edinburgh by train for me to make it back to my home on the west coast before midnight and I needed reasonably priced accommodation within easy walking distance of Waverley. A few issues: firstly there's a requirement to upload photo ID when you check in online - this took me by surprise as I'd never come across this before and it was a bit of a faff sorting this out - thank goodness I had my driving licence on me otherwise I'd have been stuck as I don't carry a passport around. I also had a some problems gaining access to the building as it wasn't clear that you need to press the enter button (the tick button) after inputting the code but luckily there's an intercom at the front door in case you have problems as there are no staff present onsite at THE LoFT. I stayed in the 6-pod female dorm, The pods are small and each contains a mattress, duvet, towel and a small shelf, You also get access to a roomy locker in the dorm which is very handy for storing luggage and valuables. I'd booked a top pod which, as a rather unfit older person, I had a struggle getting in and out of via the vertical bunkbed ladder so if I were to stay at THE LoFT again I would request a bottom pod for ease of access. The room containing the pod was very small so you have to work around everyone else's stuff lying about plus the pod became rather warm and stuffy in the evening so I didn't need the duvet until I woke up feeling cold in the middle of the night. Being in the middle of Edinburgh, the location is rather noisy due to the pub next door which has folk gathered outside it talking in the evenings and then noisy lorry deliveries early the following morning. I stayed on a Thursday night and I imagine the noise from the pub is likely a lot louder on Friday and Saturday nights. Thankfully I had brought silicone earplugs with me which blocked out most of the noise in the evening. The showers are good (although there was just one toilet between 6 guests) and the small communal kitchen on the ground floor is well furnished and provisioned with all you need to prepare a simple breakfast, lunch or evening meal. All in all not bad value for money considering THE LoFT is in the centre of Edinburgh where hotel rooms cost a small fortune.

We stayed in the penthouse at the LoFT, which was a studio apartment with a nice big bathroom with shower. A lot of stairs to get up! But the receptionist helped us with our bags. The view from the top was amazing and the room was lovely, modern but cozy. The little balcony with a view right to the castle was a lovely touch -- we could see the fireworks at the end of the Tattoo. The location is absolutely unbeatabble -- yes, maybe the old town is a bit more in the absolute center of things but this is three minutes from the tram stop so getting our bags safely to and from the room when we arrived from / left to the airport was very easy, and it's on the same block as one of the main Assembly Rooms venues. Despite being in the center of things we weren't bothered by street noise. Would happily stay there again. It was a little expensive, but everything is during the Festival -- I haven't checked out the prices during the rest of the year.

I stayed at The loFT coDE Pod Hostels for my first solo trip in august 2025. I had chosen a female dormitory room with 6 pod and I loved it. The location was perfect, the price for three nights was okay and the accommodate was great overall. The only maybe negative point would be the noise but once you are asleep, you don't ear anything. For three nights or less or more I would definitely recommend this hostel.

The Penthouse! Even though the entrance looks a bit scary (Could use a freshup) we were met by the sweetest most helpful young staff, who actually volunteered to carry my superheavy suticase all the way up to the top floor. Nobody on any other hotel during our 3 week trip in Scottland/England did this. The Penthouse was a total surprise. Modern, clean, spacious, even with a nice balcony. Huge bathroom! In addition the location is both quiet and central. Would absolutely recommend!

The hostel is located in a fantastic area. It's a short walk from Waverly station and the attractions including the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Victoria Street, and the museum's to name a few. There are a ton of restaurants, bars and shops to explore. My issue with the hostel was the cleanliness of the bathrooms/showers. The showers had mold all along the bottom. As well, the it's one toilet per floor. The rooms were clean but you can hear all the noise from the street (next door to a pub), people walking up and down the stairs and using the keypad. The room also gets very hot, but there are mini fans which help.

It was a cheap and good location. At night you need earplugs. Thee Pods are fine and I slept good. During my stay wich where three nights, different people slept in the miixed room. In the morning it was nice to get some free coffee of tea. A staff member was often there. They clean the place upp and keep a little watch on who's checking in.It was a nice place to stay.

This would have been a good stay if I hadn’t had any customer service needs. Due to a mistake on their end I did not have access to my locker during my stay. This meant my backpack was taking up the limited common space. I tried to contact staff using WhatsApp, email, and the chat function of their website. They were completely unresponsive and unhelpful. Even after I stopped by the other location they still didn’t help me get access to my locker. Extraordinarily bad customer service.

(Solo female traveller) This was my first experience using a hostel and it was great. The staff are very friendly and the beds are comfortable. The bathrooms were very clean and it was convenient to have secure lockers in the rooms to store items that I didn't want to carry around all day. The curtain fits well around the bottom of the bed and I felt no issues with personal safety etc. The only negative I can think of would be that the keypads beep when you use them - helpful during the day, annoying at night. However, I am a light sleeper, even with earplugs. I decided to book here again on the return leg of my journey, so it really wasn't that much of an issue!
