I stayed one night at THE LoFT as I was arriving too late in Edinburgh by train for me to make it back to my home on the west coast before midnight and I needed reasonably priced accommodation within easy walking distance of Waverley. A few issues: firstly there's a requirement to upload photo ID when you check in online - this took me by surprise as I'd never come across this before and it was a bit of a faff sorting this out - thank goodness I had my driving licence on me otherwise I'd have been stuck as I don't carry a passport around. I also had a some problems gaining access to the building as it wasn't clear that you need to press the enter button (the tick button) after inputting the code but luckily there's an intercom at the front door in case you have problems as there are no staff present onsite at THE LoFT. I stayed in the 6-pod female dorm, The pods are small and each contains a mattress, duvet, towel and a small shelf, You also get access to a roomy locker in the dorm which is very handy for storing luggage and valuables. I'd booked a top pod which, as a rather unfit older person, I had a struggle getting in and out of via the vertical bunkbed ladder so if I were to stay at THE LoFT again I would request a bottom pod for ease of access. The room containing the pod was very small so you have to work around everyone else's stuff lying about plus the pod became rather warm and stuffy in the evening so I didn't need the duvet until I woke up feeling cold in the middle of the night. Being in the middle of Edinburgh, the location is rather noisy due to the pub next door which has folk gathered outside it talking in the evenings and then noisy lorry deliveries early the following morning. I stayed on a Thursday night and I imagine the noise from the pub is likely a lot louder on Friday and Saturday nights. Thankfully I had brought silicone earplugs with me which blocked out most of the noise in the evening. The showers are good (although there was just one toilet between 6 guests) and the small communal kitchen on the ground floor is well furnished and provisioned with all you need to prepare a simple breakfast, lunch or evening meal. All in all not bad value for money considering THE LoFT is in the centre of Edinburgh where hotel rooms cost a small fortune.
