CoDE Co-Living – The LoFT - Edinburgh, a Design Boutique Hotel Edinburgh, United Kingdom

"CoDE Co-Living - The LoFT is set on Rose Street North Lane, just a short walk from Princes Street. It offers modern interiors within a red brick-clad period building. It offers rooms with bunk beds, a shared kitchen and a communal area. Each pod-style room at Code Hostel Edinburgh has a shower room and you can relax in bright communal areas, too. The hostel is within 10 minutes' walk of Edinburgh Waverly Railway Station, while Edinburgh Castle and the old town can be reached in around 15 minutes by foot." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

I had a really nice stay at The LoFT Edinburgh. It was a great spot to go to as a short stay solo traveller. The staff were incredibly kind and inviting, always asking how my day was and being very accommodating. The downstairs bar/restaurant area is a great place with a lovely ambience. I had an evening drink there which was accompanied by some super nice live music. I also took a work call there during the day and felt really comfortable in the space. The rooms themselves are neat and fairly clean. I did find a hair at the side of my mattress but the sheets and pillows themselves were clean. Really appreciate the locker system in the rooms too. I felt very safe leaving my possessions in the combination lockers. As far as hostels go, the shared area's are quite clean. They have accessible toilets which is considerate and towels are £3 which is a super fair price. Fantastic location-in the heart of Edinburgh with 100's of souvenir shops, lunch spots and coffee shops near by. I would deffo recommend for a short stay.

Blankets are too small. 5 ft (155cm). Mattress is also too short (I'm 6 ft) and made of bad foam that is low in the middle. Worst sleep of any hostel I've ever been at. Keypads don't work well, the touchpad buttons frequently don't sense it when you press them. And they beep loudly in the hall as people keep entering the wrong codes on accident. No real electrical outlets in the "pod," just USB!?? This place is kind of a scam. For double the price of a normal hostel bed in the city, everything is worse. The bathroom is good. Location is good.

Me and my friend, both women, decided to go with The Loft mainly due to pricing and that it seemed cleaned and fresh as well as relatively small rooms which felt safe. ||||Unfortunately, if this location has been very clean and fresh before, we can no longer say that's the case of October 2025. ||||You only get one (1) tiny towel for both body and face, sheets were allegedly clean but I kept finding curly black hairs in mine and lots of dust in my pod (they should make sure to vacuum properly within the pods under the bedding), paper towels were not refilled in the bathroom, and neither was the one towel shared between everyone at that floor. 1 toilet shared between (at least) 12 people of one floor (though I think other people from upper floors could also go to that first floor bathroom, hence "at least"). Showers were dirty and filled with debris (I guess someone thought it was a good idea to wash off their shoes or something?) which was never cleaned despite us requesting additional cleaning (which one could do with a qr code - however one could never write what it actually was that needed cleaning). One of the showers broke down 2 days after so you HAD to use *that* shower. ||||Furthermore, it was adverties that they'd have a laundry machine and dryer. However, the dryer (which I severely needed) was broken when we arrived, and kept being broken during the entirety of our stay. We were instead referred to their sister hotel which is a 15 minute (steep) walk from there - but afaik there was no way to "book" it, meaning you could go there with your laundry and not being sure whether the dryer would actually be free to use. Waiting around just for an opportunity to carry around and dry your wet clothes is not really something you want to be spending time on when traveling.

I stayed one night at THE LoFT as I was arriving too late in Edinburgh by train for me to make it back to my home on the west coast before midnight and I needed reasonably priced accommodation within easy walking distance of Waverley. A few issues: firstly there's a requirement to upload photo ID when you check in online - this took me by surprise as I'd never come across this before and it was a bit of a faff sorting this out - thank goodness I had my driving licence on me otherwise I'd have been stuck as I don't carry a passport around. I also had a some problems gaining access to the building as it wasn't clear that you need to press the enter button (the tick button) after inputting the code but luckily there's an intercom at the front door in case you have problems as there are no staff present onsite at THE LoFT. I stayed in the 6-pod female dorm, The pods are small and each contains a mattress, duvet, towel and a small shelf, You also get access to a roomy locker in the dorm which is very handy for storing luggage and valuables. I'd booked a top pod which, as a rather unfit older person, I had a struggle getting in and out of via the vertical bunkbed ladder so if I were to stay at THE LoFT again I would request a bottom pod for ease of access. The room containing the pod was very small so you have to work around everyone else's stuff lying about plus the pod became rather warm and stuffy in the evening so I didn't need the duvet until I woke up feeling cold in the middle of the night. Being in the middle of Edinburgh, the location is rather noisy due to the pub next door which has folk gathered outside it talking in the evenings and then noisy lorry deliveries early the following morning. I stayed on a Thursday night and I imagine the noise from the pub is likely a lot louder on Friday and Saturday nights. Thankfully I had brought silicone earplugs with me which blocked out most of the noise in the evening. The showers are good (although there was just one toilet between 6 guests) and the small communal kitchen on the ground floor is well furnished and provisioned with all you need to prepare a simple breakfast, lunch or evening meal. All in all not bad value for money considering THE LoFT is in the centre of Edinburgh where hotel rooms cost a small fortune.

Easy and convenient sleeping in Edinburgh city centre. 24h check-in available to the facilities (to the room from 3pm) for Late night arrivals from the airport! Good quality sleep with blinds and pods. Privacy and lockers! Friendly staff! Good degree of autonomy for the guests not too big!

I stayed at The loFT coDE Pod Hostels for my first solo trip in august 2025. I had chosen a female dormitory room with 6 pod and I loved it. The location was perfect, the price for three nights was okay and the accommodate was great overall. The only maybe negative point would be the noise but once you are asleep, you don't ear anything. For three nights or less or more I would definitely recommend this hostel.

The hostel is located in a fantastic area. It's a short walk from Waverly station and the attractions including the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Victoria Street, and the museum's to name a few. There are a ton of restaurants, bars and shops to explore. My issue with the hostel was the cleanliness of the bathrooms/showers. The showers had mold all along the bottom. As well, the it's one toilet per floor. The rooms were clean but you can hear all the noise from the street (next door to a pub), people walking up and down the stairs and using the keypad. The room also gets very hot, but there are mini fans which help.

Wonderfully cozy place to stay. Super safe and very thoughtful, with blackout curtains around each bunk and earplugs included for a quality night’s sleep. For a solo traveler just looking for a place to crash at night, this place is great. Next time I’ll stop by their other location for their evening social activities!
