On the Grid : 民生工寓 Coffee Essential

"Tucked away in an alley lined with trees, Coffee Essential is like a gem of this neighborhood. Exposed brick walls and industrial lighting show their attitude. Not only offer specialty coffee but also cakes and brunch options. Often populated in weekend afternoon, come by earlier to get a seat where you like." - Lin Yuhuan

Relaxing environment on a quiet side alley, good background music. Knowledgeable staff introduced just the right kind of bean for my pour over. Blueberry cake tastes homemade and is excellent: not too sweet and complements the coffee perfectly. Highly recommend this place.

Google
Hands down the best coffee shop I've been in Taiwan (after trying 20+ this month) Great latte, great madeleine & great vibe Want to particularly shout out to the staff there: he saw that it's raining outside, and I didn't have an umbrella. He went into the storage house and handed me an umbrella, despite me saying that I might not return it soon, and he said "no worry. walk carefully" Really touched by such a beautiful act 100% recommend for anyone who want to find a great place to work as well!

Great service and vibe. Drinks and sweets are a bit pricy. I had iced fruit tea which was nice, fresh and fruity. A natural blend of sourness and sweetness with apples being the prominent.🍎🍹 - Will come back to try their coffee and desserts!✨

Google
Good coffee, quiet and work friendly cafe to spend your mornings and afternoons at. The frittata is plain which comes with a good amount of veggies and the basil chicken panini is not bad either. Not an interesting menu but you can get more than what you mostly would seek for here.

Cafe with great ambiance makes for a good day to hangout with friends/work in the afternoon. It’s dessert, light snacks and hand drip coffee are a must try. Recommend to reserve in advance for tables in the “greenhouse” area.

Nice cafe tucked away in a quiet corner. Plenty of seating, etc. however, not too much by way of food options. Also, most of the seating is of the hard seat variety - not many couch or lounge chair options. Edit: the milk was not especially fresh this morning (you can list to the milk suds popping - faster rate means the foam holds it form less long and is not as fresh).

Loved this coffee house! Had the rose lychee latte (iced) which was the perfect amount of subtle sweetness and flavor that didn't overwhelm the taste of the coffee. The atmosphere and decor added to the nice environment and it was spacious enough where it felt very comfortable. I'd definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
Cool cafe tucked away in a small street in Songshan District. Good selection of coffee options from a number of single origin pour overs, espresso based drinks, and house specialties. Coffee hear is quite good but is a bit on the expensive side. There are some food items on the menu. Mainly cakes and pastries with a few sandwich options. I definitely plan on coming back if I'm in this area looking for coffee or a place to have an afternoon tea.

Yelp
Coffee Essential Haiku: Lovely great staff Waitress made great recommends cakes were really good Some time ago during a chilly afternoon, I came here to get some reading done while waiting for a friend. I decided to break my diet and order an oreo cheese cake and oh yes was it worth the sin! Their black drip coffees were so good, and the waitress that recommended me the cakes and coffees was so nice and wonderful! Been back and will keep coming back! love sitting by the window, although it can get a tiny bit chilly.

Yelp
If I had to pick one coffee shop to be my favorite in the whole city, it would probably be Coffee Essential. This place goes above and beyond for your neighborhood coffee shop: from decor to service, coffee quality to food menu, this little spot is spectacular. I love coming here on a rainy afternoon and immerse myself in the industrial setting and work using their unlimited wifi. I also enjoy reading a book under their sunroof on a sunny clear day. Definitely try their desserts and their lattes!

Yelp
If you are looking for a place for lunch, this may not be the place for you. The food selection is very very slim. There were only three choices. BLT, mushroom pesto, or something else. Got the mushroom and it was fantastic. The bread was nice and toasted, and the coffee was freshly made. Got the brown sugar coffee latte. It was a quaint location, but the place was small.

Yelp
This is a great place to have a quiet time. Love the atmosphere and deco. I was a but underwhelmed by the single origin coffee. It taste passable for the price.

Yelp
I came here three times while I was in Taipei. Like many others have mentioned, this is a great place to catch up on some work. Good wifi, and access to power outlet. They also have a nice glass roof so you can bath under the sunshine. Coffee is on the pricey side but taste good. Will def come back if I need to work while in Taipei again.

Yelp
For all coffee lovers who are into single blends and drip coffee, here's the place to be at when you need your daily fix. Coffee Essential has a lot of space and seats, being here on a weekday allows you to pick your favorite corner to enjoy some "me time". As I am here to work this time round, I really appreciate having wifi and electric sockets at almost every table. Coffees range at about NTD120-180, half price if you get a refill (not sure if it's of the same coffee or what) according to the menu.

Yelp
I love this cafe! The hazelnut latte is very good, the scones were being made fresh in front of me at bar seating, and there are outlets. Can't ask for much more! With it being a million degrees outside, I wore shorts and a tank top, but after an hour or so you might need a light jacket.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee places in Taipei for the following reasons Free wifi: great to get some work done, meet up a friend, or just hangout. And no time limit!!!! Decent coffee: i am not a fan of sour tasting coffee, the coffee at this place is smooth and just what you need to get you going on those blogs, emails...etc Great music: i love the music they play here, light hearted songs that brightens up any rainy day. more importantly, it's not loud, so it won't distract you from what you are doing or having to scream over the music to talk to your friends Outlets: nothing is more annoying than a dying laptop or phone, they have plenty of outlets for you to charge your gadgets

Yelp
This place came up on Yelp as the only coffee shop in the neighborhood open till 10 pm, we needed some fuel to continue business meetings, so we decided to relocate there after dinner. It was a little tricky to find it in the dark, but we made it! We were greeted with the announcement that tonight they were closing at 9 pm to do some extra cleaning and inventory - sad face. We were too desperate for caffeine, so we decided to stay anyways and enjoy ourselves for 30 minutes. We ordered brown sugar cappuccinos and a crème brûlée; I would say coffee was on a pricy side, but made well - maybe stick with just plain cappuccino :) What we really appreciated was the fact that we were left alone to our meeting even after 9 pm, while staff concentrated on cleaning the other part of the shop and we could finish our business. We would definitely be back had it not been for the flight back home the next day!

Yelp
Cute coffee shop with a lot of green, makes me feel like I'm sipping coffee in a place in my dreams. tables are comfy with a lot of plugs to charge up that computer or phone. It can be a place to study, place to chat, or a place to just be alone and read. a lot of coffee and food options. located on a quiet street, which makes it more quaint and cool. good vibes, good coffee. cash only

Yelp
[Tip] Call to reserve a seat/table in advance. One of my favourite hangout in Taipei, this is an awesome cafe for digital nomads! The air-con is blasting, keeping it nice & cool indoors - you will understand if you've survived a Taipei summer. Left your power cord extensions at home? No problem, the staff has all the hardware you need to get working. Food: Definitely try the Croque Madame here Drinks: Coffee are roasted on-site, and pick something from their selection of international craft beers!

Yelp
Lots of outlets if you want to just have some quiet and workspace with a hot cup of coffee.
