Google
What an amazing coffee shop. Definitely top 5 in the world for me. The owner, Thomas is such a nice guy, he welcomes you into his store with open arms, and treats you so well. I had 3 pour overs, an espresso and a delicious Flatwhite. All were incredible. The minimalist, yet warm interior is just so great. If you are in Heidelberg or Paris or any city nearby, Heidelberg is an amazing day trip, and coffee nerd is so worth it.

Great specialty coffee with methods. Chill vibe. Digital nomad friendly. Laptop friendly

Real coffee brewed with passion - not to be missed! An experience! Plus croissants that melt in your mouth

One of the best coffee spots in Heidelberg. The quality of the coffee is consistently excellent, and you can tell they really know what they’re doing. It’s usually quite busy—especially on weekends—but the atmosphere is lively and welcoming, and it’s absolutely worth the wait. A great place to relax, catch up with friends, or just enjoy a truly good cup of coffee.

Personally, I find that finding legitimate proper specialty coffee is so difficult in Europe. So when I came, I wasn't expecting much but wow, 10/10. Espresso was beautifully extracted and the milk was steamed well - althought it could be a tad bit warmer. But still, it was an excellent cup and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The cinnamon pastry was so good?! Not soggy, dense but not in a bad way and still had a nice doughy texture to it. Seats are limited but atmosphere was 10/10. Reminded me alot of aussie cafes.

Great experience, very enthusiastic barista and good coffee!

When the Nerd (the person) came to Heidelberg, he brought the first ever truly exceptional coffee: Light roast, brewed with extreme care, perfect microfoam, sweet, floral, nutty. Get the flat white. Imitated (but not matched) all over Germany, this place changed the whole country. Just go here! My only complaint: it doesn’t open early enough.

Google
The perfect cup of flat white and satisfied pastry! I have tried ‘flat white, Cacao, and some pastries. I love the coffee.. a good roast(light) and fresh. You still feel the aroma and the complexity of taste. It was served at a nice temperature and the milk foam was well-done. The cacao tastes unique and I enjoy drinking it. The pastries are fresh and rich in butter. We have ordered cinnamon and chocolate. The atmosphere is pretty hipster and has chill vibes.

Yelp
Hands down, the best cup of coffee in Heidelberg. Coffee Nerd is definitely deep in that "coffee culture" which is prevalent throughout the States, but not so frequently seen in Germany. Each cup is made with care and knowledge of how it should be properly done :) They also serve locally made cakes, pastries, and sandwiches on artisan breads from a local bakery (the sepia bread is amazing). The sandwiches sell out quickly though around lunchtime. The service is friendly and personable, and the outdoor seating is so cozy on the lovely Heidelberg days. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Something that tends to set Europe apart from the states is coffee culture. While you'll find great little cafes sprinkled around European cities they aren't quite the same as the cafes in the US. In my opinion "coffee shops" as we tend to think of them here in the states have more of a coffee first focus, where there is a lot of emphasis on how the beans are ground, brewed, and enjoyed. The difference in Europe is that a European "cafe" tends to be more about sitting down to have a coffee and maybe enjoy a pastry or some bread. It's more of a place to visit and take in the ambiance or read a book and less of a place to seek out the best coffee. Just my opinion, but I find cafes in general in Europe to be really hit or miss on coffee flavor and quality. All of that being said, when visiting Heidelberg this past spring I woke up and in need of a good cup of coffee started searching Yelp for options. Enter Coffee Nerd. It fit my criteria as it had a good rating and was walkable from my hotel. I convinced my sister to get dressed and out the door we went. It was easy enough to find and is fairly centrally located - not too far from the historic part of town, but definitely more city center and likely caters more to locals than tourists. When we walked in the door it was like walking back into the USA. It had the clean lines and minimalist design of any hip coffee house I'd find back home, which oddly enough was somewhat comforting. The menu was very simple, but that was okay as all I really wanted was some cold brew. They did have cold brew, but being Europe they were not as accustomed to folks taking it to go so they put it in a hot to-go cup for me which kind of made me chuckle, but it tasted right and I was really grateful for the stop. Why four and not five stars? Pretty much because it really lacked options and I would have liked to have seen maybe a few house made syrups to choose from, and a more robust pastry case. All in all, if I had been staying in Heidelberg more days I'm sure this spot would have stayed in my rotation.

Yelp
Delicious coffee, tasty cinnamon pastries, and very friendly service. In an area saturated with cafes, this one stood out for its quality and friendliness.

Yelp
Very hipster, very friendly coffee place a short walk from Bismarckplatz. Great wifi (which is a sadly scarce thing in Germany apparently). First of all, do note they only take cash - crazy in 2016! Haven't they heard of iZettle? - so if you need to withdraw that do so at the Volksbank a few yards away. Do not attempt to do so in any of the other nearby 3 banks because they don't accept foreign cards for some ridiculous reason. I chose a vegetarian sandwich (no vegan option alas) with a really lovely herb bread. I just wish the much looked forward to first coffee of the day had been equally lovely. But no. The soy latte was just so ridiculously sweet - first I thought they had but syrup in it, but it was sweetened soy milk. Which us a no-no of course - and weak. Such a disappointment. If I would mark the cafe by its coffee from that one visit it would be a sad 1 alas. Not befitting for a place obviously very proud of their coffee standards... But the rest of my impression (despite the cash only flaw) was definitely a 4, thus I settle for 3 overall. (And I have to say I'm really surprised that there are so many 5 star reviews praising the coffee quality...) The toilet is situated at the back of the house, you use the key with a little milk jug key fob to access it. Step out on the street then turn right 3 times until you stand in front of a dictor's entrance door. Use the key and you'll find the toilet just inside to the left with a Coffee Nerd sign. Not very convenient in winter time, but better a toilet a bit off than no toilet at all. Very friendly staff. And fresh, understated interior.

Yelp
Great coffee shop downtown!! Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The brew methods and options are much like those in the states. There was lots of space for visiting and working.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best coffees I've had in the world. I hurt my ankle on a step while traveling to Heidelberg and was feeling really down - then I stumbled up on this place and the cappuccino healed me enough that I was able to continue sightseeing for the rest of they day. If/when I go back to Germany, I would seriously consider coming back to Heidelberg just to get another coffee from this cafe!

Yelp
Hipster, the latest wave of "cool" to hit a rocking university town. This coffee "hangout" is friendly for those wanting a quiet place to sit, review uni work or just chill out with friends over a pot of coffee. Coffee is good however can be inconsistent with some coming out slightly cool, but overall good. They serve some locally made cakes and sandwiches however no dietary options like gluten free, lactose free or other alternatives that usually come with a Hipster joint. Service is slightly slow but the care thats taken with the coffee certainly makes up for this, also there is no table service which is so common across Germany.

Yelp
Just coffee. If you are looking for a cup if coffee and nothing more. This is a place. The interior is very minimal; simple and modern and so is their menu. Just a few items latte, cappuccino, ... And maybe 2-3 kinds of pastry. The price is really good 3.50 for a latte and it was tasty. I just gave 4star due to limitation in the menu but otherwise it was really good

Yelp
Favorit Coffee Place of my sister, who's opinion I definitely share in this case. Nice place, cozy seating, great coffee!

Yelp
Very good coffee and food. Professional and friendly service. Nice place to sit and have a Latte.

Yelp
This reminds me of the coffee scene back home in NorCal (Northern California) - hipster place with excellent coffee and interesting treats. The baristas were very friendly and the coffee was the best I have had in a long time- even my boyfriend (who is a tea drinker) raved about the cold brewed coffee. I wouldnt study/or work here since it is very lively with groups chatting and hanging out. Not to say one couldnt study/work if they wanted only that the place appeared lively on the hott summer afternoon I visited.

Yelp
Visiting from the states and staying at a hotel close by, the latte here is legit. Friendly service, delicious pastries - I love Germany but haven't had a great German pastry, stick to French in the pastry department and get their pain ai chocolat, it's buttery and flaky and delicious. The husband had a ham and cheese and the bread was delicious as well. Came here both mornings instead of the touristy haupstraße. Loved it both times.

Yelp
Very fast for take away macchiato latte. Excellent service and very welcoming, modern, brightly lit space. Tons of attractive young people enjoying their outdoor seating out front too.

Yelp
I loved Coffee Nerd when I needed a good strong caribe fix they delivered, from filtered to espresso, milk coffee to treats they had all the things that make the perfect coffee spot, if I was a local this would defiantly be my local hangout

Yelp
It seems like a nice independent coffee shop, but my experience wasn't that great. It shouldn't take more than 15mins for a coffee to go. Also, during the afternoon there isn't blinds on the windows. This causes the sun to be irritating and hot.

Yelp
Best coffee in heidelberg. Hands down. Great people. Not the best for working-with-coffee these days as it is often busy. (Which is a good thing)

Jay R.

Yelp
The worst thing about this place is that I can't have it daily. I was here back in March, it was the first place I went to for my Eurotrip, and likely the best. I've never had better coffee, the pour over was just amazing! What I wouldn't do to have this locally. I don't know what else to say other than the staff are uber friendly, the coffee is steller, and the food is top notch. Keep up the good work, I will surely come through again when I'm back in Germany! Should you pass through Heidelberg and not stop here, even if you don't like coffee, you failed. My main photo is me here!

Yelp
Coffe Nerd has a very diverse, warm and welcoming environment. It is a great place to sit and chat with friends or read a book and study. Its open plan seating in the main room makes the place feel cozy even on the busiest of days and in contrast the smaller room to the side is perfect for intimate talks or some nice down time to enjoy a coffee alone. Both rooms have to most beautiful windows that fill the whole coffee shop with natural light. Oh and the drinks and locally made snacks are delicious! What's not to love? If you haven't been I suggest you go and check this place out

Yelp
Hands down the best cappuccino I have tasted outside of Italy.

Yelp
My favorite spot for a good coffee in Heidelberg! Brings a little bit of big city feeling to this cute small town . Good job, amazing place!

Elena P.

Yelp
Great pour over coffee, friendly staff. A bit pricey, but great coffee flavor balances the price. This place is for real coffee nerds :)

Luis O.

Yelp
If your a latte type of person! Then you have found your match. Coffee Nerd has great lattes, actually i would say amazing lattes. It maybe a bit expensive or pricey but it is well worth it. The set up seems to be clean and modern. It is more of a stop and go type of place. If your looking to sit and do work , study or chat; then this might not be your place.

Yelp
I spent about 2 hours here while waiting for a shuttle to the airport. Absolutely excellent! The staff were nice and welcoming (which is unfortunately rare, premo coffee typically means too-cool hipsters serving indifference). Anyway, the coffee was fantastic! Could stand up to the best roasters/coffee houses in major cities of the world. Right up there with Intelligentsia, Stumptown, Counter Culture, etc. I had a milchkaffee (I think that's what it was, like a latte) with a single origin and a cappuccino with the blend. I really like the choice of beans, it's not something I've seen in a lot of coffee shops. Both drinks were fantastic, had great milk texture and nice latte art. The shop was airy, inviting, and had free wifi. The only downside was they only take cash but it let me get rid of my change. They also serve very nice looking pastries and sandwiches which I didn't try. Highly recommended if you're in Heidelberg.
