The Most Popular New Hotels of 2023

"The laid-back seaside town of Tavira, on Portugal’s Algarve coast, is the setting for Colégio Charm House — in the 18th century an aristocratic palace, in the 20th a Catholic boys’ school, and in the 21st, a stylish and rather luxurious 20-room boutique hotel. It’s a mile or so from some fantastic beaches, but the hotel’s swimming pools make a persuasive case for keeping it local." - Mark Fedeli

Best hotel we have ever stayed in. Staff are friendly and professional. Surroundings are beautiful and clean. Room was large, comfy bed, second sitting room and 2 bathrooms. Breakfast is definitely the highlight of this hotel. The attention to detail is excellent. We did not have a car but this was not a problem as bus station is a 1 minute walk away and the beautiful river side is a 5 minute walk away with numerous restaurants and shops. I would highly recommend the Collegio.

Just back from a fantastic stay in this wonderful hotel. Each room is individual and we were luck enough to get an upgrade to a mezzanine room. |The staff were great, enthusiastic about their jobs and willing to help with any request we had.|Breakfast was really lovely, table service but plenty of options and refills on anything you needed.|We had dinner one night and no issues with me being coeliac. A nice selection of bread, starters and main courses.|The night time staff - Inis and Casper were really good and helpful. |They had an afternoon tea special event while we there - an additional charge of 15 euro including a glass of prosecco. It was worth it - lots of savoury and sweet options. They didn't have a gluten free option but I was able to choose something from the dessert menu. This was a one off event, but if it becomes a more regular thing then a proper gluten free option would be nice. |We will definitely be returning here.|Thank you for a great stay.

Recommended by a friend. This was the ultimate getaway for one night. The accommodations were superb and the dinner and breakfast were superb. Best breakfast and service we had on our 17 day trip. Quaint, unique room was very clean with comfortable bed and great shower. Great location to walk to all sites in town. Quiet peaceful beautiful town. Don’t miss.

We have just returned from 4 fantastic nights in Tavira. The Colegio Charm House is stunning. The rooms are beautifully decorated, clean and very funky. The breakfasts are amazing and we spent over an hour each morning relaxing and taking time to enjoy what seemed like a never ending supply of locally sourced food. We had one dinner in the restaurant and it too was beautiful. A special mention has to go to the staff who were all very pleasant, always smiling and ever helpful.|Thank you for an amazing 4 days and we will definitely return.|Tavira itself is great location to relax, eat great local food and have a drink or 2.

A gem of a hotel in Tavira. We have visited the Algarve many times but always stayed at a resort outside of Tavira. Well-situated, thid hotel makes Tavira even more special. All the rooms are unique; many of them have terraces and access to dipping pools. We were upgraded to a beautiful, spacious room that had a terrace with a gorgeous view of the city. Our room was quiet, immaculate and well-appointed. Everyone at the hotel went out of their way to help us. The staff could not have been nicer. Breakfast was delicious; special, organic and plentiful. We recommend the Colégio to everyone planning a visit to Tavira!

Just left from a 3 night stay at Colegio Charm House. What a delight, the accommodation really is charming with such a eye for detail and personal touches. Staff were amazing including Ali who greeted us on arrival, Carol,Maria, Sophie at reception. Also a Romarian waitress / hostess who name I cannot pronounce. This place is exceptional in the heart of Tavira .Will be difficult to find a place that has so creatively transformed a former historic building into such a welcoming and peaceful place to stay. Nothing is to much trouble and staff match the high standard of their surroundings. An absolute joy.|Regards john and Judith |Will miss the parrott

The owners wanted to apply all the lessons from their own travels to create a hotel where they would like to stay. So fir example there is no deadline for you to cone down for breakfast. How liberating is that when you are on holiday? And boy, what a breakfast. The best in any hotel we gave stayed at (my wife is a luxury travel writer so has some experience).
