Having sampled some of the best buffets on the planet, this is a 3/5. My favorite buffets in Miami are a cut above. But if you wish an average meal, then come here. They can improve across the board.

Google
I'm local and eat here for the lunch buffet every 4 weeks or so. Today I ordered online takeout - Twice Cooked Chicken, it's chicken with bean curd and cabbage in a savory brown sauce. I WAS EXPECTING TOFU with the chicken, as advertised and there was ZERO and the sauce sadly had no flavor. It was priced at $18.25 and it was not worth it. The family's other restaurant, the Bellefonte Wok used to make this dish the best. I'm not happy. The Manager at this restaurant is part of the family that owns the other restaurant.

Beyond expectations! We have been coming here for 20 years and never have had a problem! The owners are soo sweet and will accommodate to anything you need! The staff is also very sweet always checking if you need a refill and clean your table from old plates!

Google
Foods delicious had a group of 30 people and every time one of the foods were done they always refilled it quickly. Food was delicious music was amazing and just a great experience

Christine Angstadt

Google
Food is good but selections are a bit limited for the price. Also staff are sitting at tables in the dining area talking and eating which just feels rude. For our table of 6 the tip was pre-calculated at a rate that felt too high for a buffet where they only serve drinks and neglected to bring our check and fortune cookies to the table.

Google
It's a good experience to eat here. You can eat all kinds of meat and seafood for just less than twenty dollars, as well as fruits and cakes. My favorite is the ice cream here! I would rather come here than go to McDonald's. I like it here! I will come back again.

Andrew Palazzo

Google
Pretty subpar experience and to top it all off they add a 15% service charge for parties of 5 or more. Food selection extremely limited, service rushed, ambiance non existent. There were limited options on a Sunday to get a quick meal and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, a terrible choice and how the experience concluded was saddening, especially since we were forced to leave 15% service at a buffet for someone to pick up two rounds of plates, which is preposterous. Never again

Corky Schnaubelt

Google
It was a typical quick diner. Good for lunch or a fast meal. Food was good. Self serve and a well stocked buffet.

Yelp
We used to visit College Buffet a lot, but over the past year or so, the food is not replenished, not hot, and doesn't taste as good, They need to put more selections on the buffet and keep them full and hot.

Megan S.

Yelp
Nobody up front to wait on customers, place is very dirty, floors and tables were gross. Would never come back.

Yelp
No. It's always a bad sign for me when a Chinese buffet is basically empty at dinner time in a college town. I know I've said that before in a past review and it holds true. Against my better judgment, I tried to eat at this place despite seeing all the negative reviews. Let me tell you right now, those negative review of for a reason. The food and the trays were largely picked over despite only being around 5:00. There were two people fixing plates, and I heard them laughing to themselves when they looked at what the offerings were. Some of the pans were completely empty, others looked as if they've been sitting from lunchtime. I decided on trying some lo mein noodles, a slimy looking concoction made of whole uncut and largely uncooked cabbage leaves, called green vegetables, and some of the cream cheese wontons, a.k.a. crab Rangoon's. They did not taste right at all. The lo mein was largely cold and the hot and sour soup seem to have ketchup in it. It was also of a subpar temperature. The the meat, I don't know what kind of meat it was because it was labeled seafood boil it was clearly hot seafood, was lukewarm at best and disgusting. I asked for my check and I left. The woman gave me a discounted rate since I didn't eat and I let her know there was something really off about the place. Zero for ambience, they didn't even bring my water. Do not eat here. This place has truly given up and is now just a danger.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Legitimately I don't know how this place stays open. The staff is very nice but the food is pretty terrible. The 'sushi' isn't sushi at all. Everything else is old, dried or clearly microwaved. Too bad
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Went to eat here with another person!! Food was nasty, cold n hard! Staff didn't get us refills or anything. Wasn't the cleanest.
google avatar

Adolph H.

Yelp
Decent selection of Am-Chinese style food, surprisingly helpful service. Buffet means it is not exquisite top-tier cuisine but just wide choice of acceptable standard Chinese style dishes. I brought my five year old granddaughter there and staff catered nicely to her limited palate -- mostly noodles and fried chicken and pudding. Teriyaki and sesame chicken are reliable. Not too crowded or noisy. Clean.
google avatar

Dinh N.

Yelp
This is my first time to visit this restaurant and I would recommend if you love oily foods We ordered shrimp lo mein noodles to go and we could drain the oil from the food foam container. Also, my wife who ordered fried rice and you can see the rice were shiny, that mean a lot of oil on it. The taste were very typical Chinese flavor, but a lot of oil were use on food. I would raise the star up if they would cut down using oil. I will revisit this restaurant near future.

Sushiplease ..

Yelp
Wow. Paid the higher weekend prices. Burnt, and I mean BURNT crab casserole, burnt day old, yet red inside, tough gyoza. Really REALLY old, dark, mushy sushi. First time I've seen it SO OLD that they smothered the top in Mayo. When they bring out more of a dish, like the burnt ones, they don't replace it, they mix the new food in with the old!! Even the green beans were old. Wait staff, my guess, split their tips if they get them at all, because they don't talk to you, do absolutely NOTHING but take away your plates. They don't smile, don't chat, rarely fill your glasses. Horrible waste of $20 a person, with tip, they barely deserved. I'm done with them. Sad sad sad
google avatar

Simon S.

Yelp
The best part about this eating experience was leaving the premises without food poisoning, which I was certain would happen. Under NO circumstances should anyone try Sushi, Gyoza, or chicken and broccoli here. There may be others, but that was as many kicks to the balls as my stomach could stomach. If you absolutely must eat here, limit yourselves to vegetable lo mein and pepper chicken. Sushi smelled and looked at least from last night's dinner, while gyoza was fried more than twice to hide something... But the worst piece de la resistance was chicken and broccoli - tasted like a poorly reheated microwave dinner well past its expiration date. The service was good and prompt. However, the soda felt like it was overly diluted and served in plastic cups that haven't been cleaned too well. The ambiance here is that of a college establishment that is cheap, but often results in a free colon cleanse.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor. Go eat somewhere else. Eat bark off the tree In your yard, grass clippings from your yard or eat the lint off of your dryer screen. It will be better than this place I promise. Food is old, cold and sometimes burnt etc etc. I went a few years ago and it was pretty good, now they've switched owners and they clearly aren't to be bothered with putting out a product resembling edible food. 1/3 of the trays are empty or the last few pieces no one ever wants. One star for location.

Yelp
Had my first meal in 2018 here! The sushi is always the best! The desert tastes awesome! Great foods and great memory.

Chukwudum O.

Yelp
It comes with an assortment of food for a good price. The lo Mein was very tasty, but some others are a hit or miss. When I went last time, I was also met with hair in food that made it unsavory. Also the place I was seated didn't have any paper napkins and it felt like I was being ignored even though the restaurant wasn't completely busy at the time.

Tim C.

Yelp
It's good and amazing buffet and friendly co work. Nice inside too :) ...... we are not perfect

Jon S.

Yelp
When I arrived and saw 6 letters of their business sign were burned out, I should have realized that was my sign to not go inside. I arrived at 8pm (they are open until 9:30pm) and approximately half the buffet items were either totally gone or possibly had a better appearance several hours earlier. Service was moderate at best even though there were as many employees as patrons. Employees who appeared to be cooks were eating from the minimal food remaining on the buffet. I learned through my exchange of $20 for this mediocre (at best) food. I'll never return to this business.

Yelp
Not fresh food and cooked to hell and back again. Not impressed

Yelp
I used to enjoy dining here occasionally - good food, good variety, reasonable cost. Something has changed and my last three visits to College Buffet have been disappointing. Today I stopped in mid-afternoon, after lunch and before the dinner rush and saw the usual array of food in all the usual places. The dessert station looked particularly well-stocked. Unfortunately, I found that absolutely nothing on the soup/appetizer bar was hot, including the soup which was barely warm. I typically enjoy a second bowl during my meal, but didn't bother this time. The S/S Chicken, Cream Cheese Wontons, and Egg Rolls were all room temperature and stale, as if they had been ignored there all day. The food from the main tables wasn't much better - the Pepper Steak had darkened and congealed in the pan - and the rest of the fare was tepid at best. I will say the tea was hot. The server was not very friendly this time, and did not thank me when I paid for my meal. I guess I was expecting better, but I doubt if I will go back to find it. Oh, and to top it off...my fortune cookie had no "fortune" inside. First time I've had a hollow cookie!

Yelp
Pretty good for a chinese buffet! I really enjoyed the lo mein, sesame chicken and steamed white rice. The ragoon and dumplings were over cooked, but the flavor was there so if they weren't overcooked, it would've tasted excellent. I also had what looked like tempura shrimp roll, but the meat in it had a consistency of chicken-tho the overall flavor of the roll was good. I would come back again!

Yelp
We used to enjoy this place, but it's not the same anymore. Lots of places are suffering from COVID closures, but deeply undercutting your quality to try to save money isn't going to help you. We went to this place for their dinner buffet recently and the food that was there was old and crusty and had obviously been sitting under the heat lamps for a while. Available portions were very limited and some of the metal pans were empty and looked as though they had been so for a little while. Several groups of people came in after us, and I was happy, thinking: 'Great! Now there will be some fresh food coming!' but we didn't see any extra food being brought out. There wasn't much left of the entrees there to begin with, so I don't know what they were eating. Our bill for the meager, old food for two adults was over $50- way too much for what we got. The one redeeming quality was the lady keeping our drinks filled. Until things change, we won't be returning.

Mike T.

Yelp
The College Buffet was CLOSED due to PA Governor locking down Restaurants in the State of PA. Fortunately re-opened last week. The food was great as it was before the lock down. They might have a new owner, and they have new people staffing the place. I like the number of green vegetables they offer that are just steamed, not swimming in fat. They have baked flounder at the luncheon buffet, shrimp. and of course General TSO chicken too. If you can't find a number of things you will enjoy, you're just not hungry! It is still the best Chinese Buffet in the area, an the price is very reasonable.

Yelp
Was told on the phone that they accept bariatric discount cards because I called and asked. He told me$7.49 for my meal.then when I went to pay I was told 10.99. I realize it's only 3.50 difference but this is not ok. Food was lukewarm and I ate very little. Only went because my daughter loves Chinese and wanted sushi.
google avatar

Lawson V.

Yelp
The food tastes good, but the selection is lacking. Many of the dishes are low quality and many of the big ticket items are not stocked regularly. The waitresses are pushy and the atmosphere is drab.
google avatar

Russ R.

Yelp
3 star food, 5 star service. If you're looking to satisfy a hankering for Chinese food, this place will do, but it's not going to blow you away. Biggest complaint was the crab rangoon was basically cold. Nothing super remarkable about the food, but the young lady serving us was on top of things and even poured our hot tea for us. Good place for a quick meal that won't break the bank.

Yelp
No place is complete without their token Chinese buffet. State College, is no exception. With College Buffet, you can get your dirty food fix for a nice low price. Price are pretty reasonable; $7 for lunch, and $10 for dinner, but the choices are the same, and they get boring after your 2nd visit. The variety includes your usual mix of sweet and sour meat, noodles/rice, and some assorted meat cooked with vegetables. A lot of the dishes are either way too sweet, or too salty. You better keep that water close by, because you'll need it. By the way, the water tastes kind of funky too. Overall, the food isn't bad, but it just isn't amazing either. You really have to come into this place with low expectations, waiting to be pleasantly surprised. The catch, is that you won't be presently surprised. You'll get what you were expecting. There are about 4 buffet sections to this place, with 3 dedicated to hot food, and 1 to sushi, fruit, and random deserts. For what it's worth, College Buffet gets it done. It's cheap, gets you full, and sends you on the way. The downside is that you'll probably feel disgusting afterwards and regret ever coming here again. Oh by the way, I don't think they ever turn on the air circulation here so be prepared for some awkward humidity while you eat.

Yelp
I give this place 5 stars based on these factors: -Go right when they open when the food is fresh and it isn't packed with loud annoying customers. If you go in later, the food isn't as fresh and some of it may have been sitting a while. -Try the Peanut Chicken, Pepper Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Bourbon Chicken, Pepper Steak, Sesame Balls, Green Beans, Chinese Donuts, Custard Cups, Sliced Apples, and the Broccoli from the Chicken & Broccoli - these are my favorites from their buffet and they are much better tasting than most other Chinese Buffets I've been, and even most of the takeout as well. Some of my friends like their Hot & Sour soup a lot as well. However, the place usually gets packed with loud, annoying customers and they seat everyone right next to each other instead of spreading out a bit. Maybe I've had bad luck, but it seems like 75% of the time, there are loud children or crying babies, people talking on phones loudly or generally conversing about stupid topics really loudly right nearby so it's kind-of hard to talk. And in fact, half the time the waitresses are yelling across the restaurant to each other the entire time we are there. The noise is definitely the worst thing about this place, but sometimes it is relatively quiet. The prices are reasonable, and if you get take-out, it is definitely a better value than ordering takeout or delivery from most other places in the area.

Yelp
*DO NOT EAT HERE*!!! This place sucks, worst Chinese buffet I have ever had. The food selection was pitiful. None of it tasted above average, the egg rolls were disgusting, (made me want to puke). They had (by far) the worst selection of food I have ever seen at a "buffet" in my entire life. It is not worth your time, money, and most of all.....don't do this to your taste buds/stomach. I'd give it no stars if I could. The waitstaff will hover (AND I MEAN HOVER) around your table until the bill is paid. After all, this establishment seems to offer nothing more than a delightfully sick zugzwang of tense meat, over-fried crisps and saucy, congealed muck. Seriously, how is this place still open? This place makes McDonald's dollar menu seem like food from a fine dining establishment.
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
No matter how my stomach feels after eating here... I always come back for more 2 weeks later! They have a huge selection of American Chinese food, deserts and fruit. This place is the quintessential cheap buffet style that reminds me of home. There is just something in this food that I can't get enough of, I usually wont stop eating until my friends across the table give me weird looks and want to leave. Maybe there is something wrong with me, but I LOVE THIS PLACE!
google avatar

Rowan R.

Yelp
It's a Chinese buffet. A good Chinese buffet...but a buffet nonetheless. Best to go from during the lunch rush as that is when the food is freshest. It's a good value for lunch; after 4 the prices jump to dinner prices. The dinner selections are nice, especially when they have duck, but if you're a vegetarian you won't be getting your money's worth. My favorites (if they are fresh) are the dumplings, the green beans and the egg custard. The sweet and sour chicken and spring rolls are pretty tasty too. They usually have a really nice array of fresh fruit on the dessert bar as well as the standard oddball "pastries" and puddings.
google avatar

Abhishek M.

Yelp
Easily the best buffet place in state college, really great selection of food , from basic sushi rolls to mussels to general tso chicken to crabs in cheese, this buffet place has more food choices than you would expect, and just 7.5$ Note: This review is subjective. Subjective to state college and the cheap price for the variety it offers.
google avatar

R S.

Yelp
Passing through the area on a family trip, needed to find a lunch place to suit a variety of tastes, including vegetarians. Luckily came across this Chinese buffet. Not the largest selection ever, but more than adequate. The food was better than average for a buffet, with the sesame and General Tso's chicken in particular quite good, made with white meat. Good vegetables and rolls, and the dessert selection was pretty solid for a Chinese buffet. At about $7 per person (at least for lunch), it's quite a deal too.
google avatar

Rochelle J.

Yelp
This is a decent buffet for the price, about $7 for lunch. The chinese food selections, such as sesame chicken, green pepper beef, and general tsos chicken are good. I"m not really sure why they have such a large selection of other foods, such as ribs, chicken wings, and grilled salmon, since they are clearly not their specialty. The sushi rolls are pretty tough, ingredients didn't seem very fresh. Generally I stick only to the chinese food and avoid the rest. They do have a decent selection of ice cream and desserts.
google avatar

Whitney B.

Yelp
Found College Buffet by chance, out exploring with the family. Gave it a shot. Won't give it another shot. Food was decent, and selection was impressive. The service was by far the worst we have ever experienced. I guess they don't like getting tips here. After two trips through the buffet, all 4 of us started to feel sick to the stomach, and my 11 year old son had to use restroom twice before we could leave. When they finally got around to bringing us our bill, it sealed the deal on disappointment. $52 for 2 adults and 2 11 year olds. Won't be back.
google avatar

Luna M.

Yelp
Lets put it simply. The foods your stereotypical Chinese buffet with the mix of a small variety of your microwave-cooked American foods and not-so-tasty dessert dishes. If you're looking for a quick fix of cheaply made Chinese food mixed with a bit of black hairs, then this is your go to place. You start off with getting a drink of watered down Pepsi products, then the shit-talking Asian workers that laugh and glare at you as they rudely chat about you and other customers in Chinese. Once you get up to the buffet, you are left with the five table all-you-can-eat set up of stereotypical meals that are honestly not worth the price. I felt like gagging as a stuffed a plate of vegetable lo-mein and chicken and broccoli down my throat as a vowed never to return to this trashy excuse of a Chinese food restaurant.
google avatar

Decompressor X.

Yelp
I prefer this place over Nihao, although my roommate prefers Nihao. The dishes here are definitely better than China Dragon.
google avatar

Raquel S.

Yelp
I've gotten lunch and dinner take out a few times but never committed to eating in partially because the choices do not really tantilize me or warrant excitment about a "buffet." The clear stars in the small array of chinese food standards and the odd mix ins- like dry salmon and overcooked beef dishes--are the cream cheese wontons (crab rangoons) and the coconut shrimp. Peanut Butter chicken also stands out, but is not my particular favorite. For lunch take out, you pay about $4 or $5 a lb, and dinner is a dollar more. They really do use a ton of msg so prepare to crave whatever you ate for the next two days.
google avatar

Alice Y.

Yelp
this place, was alright. overall there were a lot of meals that had flys in them. and the rice wasnt sticky enough. i use the restroom here and i dont know if it is sanitary. one of the waiters were being racist to us apparently and we did not like his attitude. i hope the owner sees this and upgrades his buffet even better throughout the year.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
I'm here with my husband almost every weekend. The food is generally fresh, there's usually something new to try, and it's all very delicious. My favorite is the Chicken with Garlic Sauce, chicken on a stick, and their clams (dinner only.) If you go at lunch, get the cheesy spinach. My only issue is that sometimes the tile on the floor is super slippery sometimes, but I'm also a klutz so it may just be me.

Yelp
Went there for the first time For lunch - 5 stars as great value for the quality and variety of food offered. They open at 11, I got there at noon Place was clean and bathrooms clean Staff was attentive, cleared table quickly filled water several times Teriyaki chicken was excellent - large pieces of meat cooked just right green beans were crisp sampled many items and each item had good flavor patrons that day were - a few older folks, families and college kids - so restaurant appeals to all

Yelp
Oh, this is an outside of University Park classic. Where else would this Chinese buffet be but right next to the Walmart? Having lived on Vairo for over two years, College Buffet was a one every-other-week visit, and not a bad buffet to boot. They offer all of the classics you come to expect at a Chinese buffet - Lo Mein, General Tso, Sweet and Sour Chicken, those bananas in the cherry sauce etc. There's not really too much left to say, as you're either for Chinese buffets or against. I can say from experience that this is one of the better ones you've been to, and you'll leave College Buffet satisfied.
google avatar

Tyler M.

Yelp
We come in the restaurant and the people rush us to sit down before we even look at the menu board. Then it took 15 minutes just to get our water. Then the workers are more concerned about eating their own meal rather than serving us the customers. Terrible place would not let my dog go there.
google avatar

Peter H.

Yelp
I like this place. And so do lots of other people. Low price. Good food. Friendly staff. Pleasant clientele. Easy parking. Lots of shopping nearby. Plenty of vegetarian options. Clean dining room and serving area. Not as austere as some chinese buffets. Good self-serve ice cream flavor options.

Yelp
I used to, is the waiter here, but I only work for two days, because I can not accept the food here, very dirty, you cant imagine!

John A.

Yelp
I enjoy eating at the College Buffet when I go to State College. It is the best Buffet I have ever had the pleasure of finding. Great selection of both Chinese food, and some American food provides a nice variety of everyone's favorite foods. Their luncheon Buffet features delicious Salmon, Shrimp, General TSO chicken, vegetable Lo Mein, and so many other dishes. A great selection of vegetables, fresh fruit, and ice cream for Dessert. Lunch is quite a bargain at $8.99 including tax. They also have a dinner menu that features several more fish and meat entrees. They have a Senior discount for those of us on a limited budget. The place is clean and the food is always fresh and delicious.

Yelp
we've eaten here for years with no problems, it was a go-to 4. I'm surprised we did not review this earlier. Recently, we found some things in our food that should not have been in food, and they could not resolve how it got there. we wanted to know how the stuff got into their food, and they could not or did not respond. so, we can't go back -- house rules. I hope you have a long run with them, everything was good (20 visits? 50 visits?) until the last meal, which was scary.

Huahua M.

Yelp
This place is the most awful restaurant I have ever seen. First, the floor is super dirty. Second, the service is extremely bad. When you are eating, the waitress were just stand there and listen to your conversation. And the fruit there is not fresh, almost all the grapes and apples are spoiled fruits and tend to decay. I grab some fruits last time there, and then i found out the fruits have gone wrong, so i did not eat it. And then the server and manager were blame me for such a waste. And they deny their bad quality of fruits with very very bad attitude. If you are looking for a good environment place and eatable place, never ever ever go to this place.
google avatar

Ralf S.

Yelp
We lunch here about once a month. Tasty stuff, decent price, nice people. If you're not looking for fancy but do want tasty, dine here.
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
Love this place. Great food. Decent selection. Service is bad, but what Chinese buffet ever is?
google avatar

Freya L.

Yelp
There are not enough kinds of food to choose. Taste not good and very oily to make you full very soon. Very BAD service. You have to call the waiters several times to just refill the water. NEVER go there again!!!

Yelp
I have frequented the College Buffet since they opened, and the food was fantastic. That's a "was", because the last several times we stopped in, the food was awful. It's a shame to see this happen. We stopped in today shortly after they opened. It was blatantly obvious that several of their dishes weren't made today, but maybe last night, and reheated. Chewy wontons, hard chicken pieces, mushy veggies, and super-fried shimp. I'm willing to pay more than their rate of 9$ for edible food. It's more miss than hit at the College Buffet...
