The Utah Ski Destination You'll Want to Visit Next

"For a more relaxed, formal lunch experience at Watson Shelter, Collins Grill offers a European mountain bistro–style menu (reservations recommended), a private dining room, and little comforts like slippers to soothe tired feet after a morning on the slopes." - Sarah Jenks-Daly Sarah Jenks-Daly Sarah Jenks-Daly is a television producer, writer, and editor based in New York City. Update: Dec 2024 Our annual tradition continues and it never disappoints. Dawn and her crew provide an excellent dining experience mid-mountain. The service and food are excellent and consistent. Choices this year included jalapeño poppers, scallops, and elk curry - yum!Highly recommended!!! Another fantastic experience. Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. Reasonable prices on their alcohol. Lots of interesting menu choices including duck, lamb and scallops. We have made it a yearly tradition for 5+ years. Make a reservation.

Cool place. Decent food but incredibly small servings. Fine dining at a ski resort so you can’t expect too much but if you’re planning on eating here make sure you pack snacks because you’d have to order the whole menu to have enough calories to finish a ski day.

The servers was so nice, atmosphere was great, but the food and wait for food was unacceptable. It took us more than an hour for our food, and the portions were beyond small and so expensive. I would steer away from Collins grill sit down and just do the grab and go, the bowls are great there.

Unfortunately, I was the beneficiary of a foodborne illness from food (Chicken/bowl) here last Saturday, April 6. You might want to review food safety protocol with your staff. Love you guys, but it’s been a very miserable six days. From the missed work to the doctors bills has made that a very expensive lunch. Not cool guys.

Delicious food in a sophisticated European style mountain restaurant mid mountain. Take your boots off and put on some slippers. The chicken kebabs were the best I’ve ever had and the waiter was happy to check with the chef for the recipe for me. I came in sad and left happy. Thank you!

Google
The best food at Alta. The best dining experience at Alta, the best staff at any restaurant in LCC and not to mention the only place to source stiff drinks mid mountain. 10/10 would recommend. With locally sourced meats and produce, eclectic menu options, and a full bar Collins Grille is a must visit at Alta Ski Area.

My server Bodhi was fantastic. It’s funny, I’ve had two different servers named Bodhi here in the past week! Maybe they’re related? Food was great! Elk curry mmmhmmm :p

One of the best ski restaurants outside of Italy. Staff and food both excellent.

Yelp
Not impressed. The service was ok ("everything on the menu is good" line). The food was frankly mediocre. The crab cakes were not great, the salmon was very undercooked, the rice was strange and terrible tasting, and the steak was just ok. Better than fast food, but certainly not worth the prices or what other people are saying. Very overrated. Also, the flatware was all different and one of them was from Amazon Basics! They do have coat racks and slippers, which is cool.

Yelp
Old school grill on the mountain. Just give me a taste burger, beer and chocolate something. Fuel up me for another round against the mountain! Oh ya, throw in some chili cheesy fries

Yelp
I was with a group ski class at Alta. The instructor suggested we try out Collins Grill. It's in the top floor of the new Watson shelter near the "angle station" on the Collins Lift. There is an elevator, in case your legs are weary from too many miles on the mountain. I was a little bit concerned that they might not have anything that would fit into my very restrictive diet. Turns out I was totally wrong to worry. Reservations are recommended. It's not the usual ski resort cafeteria. It's a classy sit-down place. You can even take off your ski boots and change into slippers. Made me feel pampered, like I was at a health spa or something. I was able to get some vegan carrot soup, which meant that it had been thickened with coconut cream instead of gluten-rich roux. Score! I didn't think I had the appetite to eat an entire salad, so I scanned the menu and decided that a plain chicken breast would be my protein for the meal. The rest of our group had sandwiches, salads and pasta. The menu seems to be mainly American/European, with very nice vegetarian and vegan options. I'd welcome a chance to go back there any time. It certainly wasn't a quick lunch, but it gave us all a chance to rest well before we headed back out into the whiteout conditions to conquer some waist-high moguls for the rest of the afternoon.

Yelp
Excellent! How nice to have a white linen lunch on the slope! You can take you ski boots of and slip on provided black slippers or dine in your boots as we did. They have a nice wine selection and the food is fantastic. Our server, Fran was excellent and made great recommendations! Started with the tomato bisque, and scallops Rockefeller. Both outstanding... for a third course we shared the lamb skewers..also excellent. Frans recommendations were just enough to refuel us without weighing us down. We finished with a coffee, and back out in the slopes to finish the day. Best place to have lunch in Alta.

Yelp
After all these years we finally had lunch here today. I wish we had tried it sooner. The location on the third floor of Watson's Shelter is beautiful with stunning views. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable. Our server, Molly, was wonderful. She gave a great description of the specials and gave us the opportunity to order when we were ready. The service was very attentive. They have a nice wine and beer selection including some very nice wines by the glass. I had the duck salad over spinach with cranberries, Gorgonzola, toasted pecans, and onion chutney. It was fabulous! My wife had the beet salad with duck breast which was also wonderful . For dessert I had the incredible brownie and she had the pecan pie. For a moment we forgot where we were. This is easily the best food on the mountain and might be the best in the canyon. We will be back soon.
