5 Best Day Trips from Hong Kong

"Located in southern Macau, overlooking the black-sand shores of Cheoc-Van Beach, Pousada de Coloane was originally built as a manor house in the 1930s. Fresh off a series of renovations, the 28-room Portuguese-style inn has long been a top choice among those seeking budget-friendly lodging, great service, and a quiet location. Surrounded by forests and gardens, the setting couldn’t feel further away from Macau’s gaudy casinos, and is just a short distance from Coloane Village, Macau’s prettiest town." - Kate Springer

This is a hidden gem by all means: 1. The location, nested in the jungle, is amazing 2. The place offers sea views, a large swimming pool, comfortable rooms, and... 3. A great restaurant which arguably much better than the famous Fernandos 4. Not mentioning the staff kindness and professionalism! If you want a chill escape in Macau, just go! (And you are just 15 mins cab away from the first casinos, like Studio City)

This hotel is in a DESPERATE need of renovation. Pros: 1. Breakfast was nice. Mostly western. 2. Nice view from the balcony and swimming pool. 3. Good if you want to go on a hike. Remote, quiet location. Cons: 1. As you can see from the photos, the rooms are literally falling apart. Which was not a nice experience. 2. If you have a heavy luggage, it will not be suitable for you, because the path to the hotel is challenging, as well as there are no elevators, so you’ll have to carry your luggage. 3. I stayed for two days, and they didn’t even attempt to clean my room. Even thought I was out from 8am to 3pm. If they would renovate it, it would be a gem. But for now a solid 5/10

Excellent location by the beach, which is rare in Macau. Nice and comfortable rooms, very friendly staff. The manager is also very friendly and helpful. I didn't have time to eat the breakfast in the hotel so every day they gave me a take-away breakfast which was very nice. They also sent me free to my destination on my last day. Highly recommendable hotel wich excellent service and beautiful surroundings.

It's a lovely Portuguese style boutique hotel with spacious room and balcony overlooking to the Cheoc Van beach. Location is a bit tucked away in Coloane but easy to hop on a bus to get into Taipa for 6MOP each person, with bus stop right by the hotel. Lord Stow's Cafe/Bakery, the original famous Portuguese tart is just 4 bus stops away. Very reasonable price with full breakfast buffet included. Property looks a bit tired but well kept and everything is clean. Nice pool for a dip in the summer and relax in the afternoon. Staffs are friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

The hotel emailed instructions for bus transport which is easy to understand. Apart from bus, they also have parking space. The hotel is located at south part of Macau with a quiet environment and superb view with the beach. The room was a bit old and humid but the amenities was okay. It was weird that there is no shower curtain in our room (which was present in other reviews). The water was splashed all over the toilet floor no matter how careful we were. Beware 1/F room has very small balcony. I guess 2/F are better. The restaurant is cozy and nice. We had dinner with cocktails. Fair price for Portuguese food. Breakfast buffet was fine with enough to choose from. We enjoyed the environment the most. Just a short 20min walk to reach the Lord Stow's Bakery and Cafe. Great Portuguese tarts!

Great boutique hotel at the southern tip of Macau. It might not have the bling of the five-star chains but you actually feel like you are in Macau. Nice rooms with distinctive furniture reminds you that you are in a former Portuguese colony. Lovely terrace and pool Easy to reach on numerous bus routes
