Colona Castle Manor House (Cape Town, South Africa) 4 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s not much of a castle, really, and not quite a manor house either — but Colona Castle’s name, in any case, puts the right sort of picture in your head. You don’t come to Cape Town for outrageous, cutting-edge design, but for the classic good life — traditional architecture, old-fashioned hospitality, and a natural setting that’s unparalleled in its beauty." - Tablet Hotels

We loved our stay at Colona Castle! ||The staff could not do enough for us, the rooms were stunning and the views from the hotel were lovely. ||The only meal we ate there was breakfast, but this was delicious with great choices and the view from the breakfast room was gorgeous. ||Travelling around was really easy with Uber and the team were happy to recommend places to visit in the local area. ||Would love to stay for longer and would happily recommend.

The Colona Castle is not in any way a "run of the mill" hotel. We felt like we were staying in someone's home, which is exactly what we were doing. The owners live on site, and they and their staff could not have been be more hospitable, helpful, and caring. ||From the warm welcome at the steps on our arrival, to the bowl of fruit, personal letter of introduction and home made biscuits with the tea tray, to advice on travelling in the local area, and how accomodating they were about breakfast times, and checking out, nothing was too much trouble. ||||Staying here is truly an experience. We stayed in the green room, which has a private balcony, enormous en suite bathroom and massive, comfortable bed. ||||The breakfast was beautifully cooked to order, with juices and cereal available to help yourself to. This hotel does not provide an evening meal service, unless by request of the guests, but there are plenty of local eateries along the coast, all of which can be reached by Uber or your own car. ||||For those who are looking for something different, and within a walk of an infamous "Z" parkrun, (Zandvlei) this could be for you. It's not a "premier inn" it's staying in someone's home and is an experience in itself.

Set on the hillside, Colona Castle has magnificent views over the coast line. ||The Parisian owner is absolutely charming, and she, and her staff could not be more friendly or helpful. However Colona Castle, is from yesteryear- it’s a bit like visiting a dear aunt, in deepest rural France. Reception has threadbare carpets, numerous random artefacts/antiques/junk, as did our room.||Breakfast on the first day had a reasonable buffet selection, with cooked options available- there was only one other couple staying. The freshly squeezed orange juice, excellent.. The second morning, when we were the only guests, no buffet set out, no orange juice of any description!||The owner was extremely helpful in advising good restaurants, booking tables, organising taxis.||All in all, a pleasant stay in a mainly ‘guestless’ accommodation- we stayed 5 nights!||Would I recommend it to friends? - nope! The place has a great location, wonderful owner and staff, but needs stripping out, and bringing into the 21st Century- am I some young trendy? Nope I’m 63, but appreciate to new standards set by most boutique accommodation.

Colona Castle in Cape Town was just as charming as it was ten years ago when we were there before. The breakfast was sumptuous. The staff was extremely courteous and obliging. It was a delight staying again in this unique B&B, so wonderfully different from staying in another chain hotel or even a large five star hotel where one can get lost in the shuffle. David was the manager there and took a personal interest in our comfort and happiness throughout our stay.

Colona Castle felt like home. The hosts were incredible, not to mention the staff, the spirit of Ubuntu/Botho is truly alive there. Beautiful views. The breakfast was amazing, and their treated water, oh I miss showering there. I'm sure my little one misses the peaceful beautiful sleeps she had in the Safari Suite! My friend Denise says "Colona itself is both grand, tasteful and a celebration of cultures. A gem reminiscent of a Spa experience and healing structured water...and healing structured water which left my body feeling truly cleansed, refreshed and healed within and without👍" I'm looking forward to my next stay there 😍. Thank you Nicole and team, keep the excellent work 🤗

Dr Grien (think this was his name) put his house up for sale in 1929 for the magnificent sum of £4500.00 and left behind him an historical treat for us share. We arrived late at night and Frank had stayed up to greet us. We took a nightcap out onto the terrace to relax and unwind after a long day of travelling with the sound of the Indian Ocean serenading our chill time on the terrace by the pool, watching the stars in the sky above us. The room was delightful despite the slight amendments to facilities despite the current drought restrictions. It was only in the light of day the following morning that we saw the full extent of the spectacular setting and views the location this B&B has to offer. Wow! Yes, it is a B&B (even though they had no problem providing a G&T and a beer at 1.O0 am), they also arranged a very prompt transfer from the airport. Only sorry that we weren't staying longer in this period piece location; could quite easily have stayed longer, sitting there daydreaming of life in a bygone era... Breakfast was excellent, service great and would like to go back. Can understand the previous comments about the beach at the bay; we only stopped to look at the stunning scenery but it felt a little intimidating even though spectacular. Would certainly recommend if you want to get away from the hurly-burley from the city life of Cape Town.

I just want to give a big thank to David and Michael for being wonderful hosts and for making us fee right at home. ||My favourite part of our stay at Colona Castle was our beautiful spacious penthouse suite with just the most breathtaking view of the mountain, lake and ocean. ||The breakfast was also amazing. ||Thank you so much for making our stay memorable.

I had the delight of spending a weekend in the gorgeous English Suite of Colona Castle. I travel frequently across the globe for work, staying in high-end conference hotels, and waking up in a formulaic room that looks the same no matter the city or country. For this weekend away I was looking for something very different - a place that offered something unique, something with taste and refinement, something with a story and a soul. I had often seen the beautiful Colona Castle rising up against the backdrop of Muizenberg Mountain and having seen their excellent website it was an easy choice to book with them. We were warmly welcomed by the owners, Nicole and Michael, who found that perfect balance between professionalism and open hearted hospitality that is so rarely found in accommodation establishments today. Colona Castle was every inch as splendid as I had imagined, with a magnificent double volume ceiling, handsome rooms and an artful arrangement of finely selected furniture, tapestries and screens. Our room, the English Suite, was without a doubt one of the most beautiful rooms I have had the pleasure to stay in. It is decorated in luxurious creamy tones, offers 2 bathrooms, one of which was open plan to the bedroom with a Victorian tub positioned beneath a silk drape – I just loved it! The bed was wonderfully enormous and utterly comfortable. From the tall the city lay stretched out at our feet. Truly Colona Castle has a magnificent view across Cape Town with Table Mountain on the left, the Hottentots Hollands ahead, and the vast False Bay coastline to the right. At night the city lights offer a different kind of magic. However, our experience was not only made so memorable by the beautiful décor and view, but also by the excellent service offered. The focus of the owners and staff was directed at offering us the best possible experience, and the attention to detail was so refreshing! Each night we found delightful chocolates on our pillows, the mini bar was stocked with our list of favourite beverages, and in-house dining and spa treatments could be arranged at our request. Our delicious breakfasts were served with fine crockery and cutlery on crisp white linen table cloths, what a pleasant change from the hotel buffet and take-away coffee cup! From our base at Colona Castle we explored the characterful False Bay coastline. We took a long walk on Muizenberg beach, browsed the quaint shops in Kalk Bay and drove round the peninsula to Scarborough and back through Simon’s Town. All in all we had a truly splendid weekend, and we thank Nicole and Michael for making this experience so memorable!
