I went here around lunch rush, and it was pretty good. The service was rather great; the waiter was very helpful and told us what most people like there, and the wait was only around 20 minutes, which is rather nice given how busy it was. There are plenty of options on the menu, both food and drinks, and what I had was rather good; I believe the breakfast meal I got was called "a little bit of everything" which came at a moderate price and was really good. One thing in particular that stood out to me were the fries; they were really good compared to the fries at other places I've been to. The appearance of the place is rather nice as well; there's a whole area near the front where baking goods are served, and I personally like the design a lot.

The owner manager and wait staff are exemplary and kind. Great breakfast options, we had their Pumpkin Spice Pancakes and country fresh sausage. Great Lakas coffee and it was a home run. Great atmosphere and customer service! So when you’re in the area or dropping your vehicle off at Safelite for a windshield repair take a quick walk or Lyft right down the highway for a nice breakfast or lunch. Super friendly staff!

Great Saturday Breakfast Spot! I came in for Saturday breakfast and ordered the pork chop, which came with mashed potatoes and vegetables—it was delicious! The others in my group ordered breakfast dishes, and everything came out great. The food was fresh, tasty, and well-prepared. A perfect way to start the weekend!

I had a wonderful brunch at this restaurant! The food was absolutely fantastic, with a diverse menu covering both American and Mexican cuisine. They also serve delicious desserts that are well worth saving room for. One helpful tip: if you’re on a tight schedule, I’d recommend arriving a bit early. The kitchen takes time to prepare each dish properly, which speaks to their commitment to quality, but it does mean there can be a wait during busy times. Overall, it’s a great spot with excellent food and good variety. Just plan accordingly if you need your meal at a specific time!

Here today 6/13/25 for early dinner. We were seated with Justin and he was a great server! Professional, kind and paid attention to us and checked in often. We had pork cutlet and fried chicken. We both had a salad and we really enjoyed our meal. The pork came with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. The chicken came with fries and Cole slaw. It was a lot of food and it was all hot and fresh. I was impressed. Very reasonable prices for the quality and the restaurant was very clean and bright! It was also BYOB which was a bonus for sure. I will return as they had a large menu including breakfast all day.

Last night, I went to Colonial Diner for a nice dinner with a few friends. I loved the vintage vibe of the diner that resonated with what a true classic diner looks like. The neon signage and arches and awnings and much more on the exterior provided that inviting diner feel and was nice. On the interior, the flooring and booth seating was classic diner styling and the lighting was nice and bright and inviting for customers. We were greeted as soon as we came in and were given the option to choose whatever style seating we wanted, which was nice, since some other diners would choose the seating for us despite the place having all kinds of open spots. We ordered a chicken wrap, chicken quesadillas, french fries, french onion soup, and a vanilla milkshake, along with a slice of their oreo cake with vanilla ice cream. The food was great! They had many menu options for all types of diets and the chicken quesadillas were particularly delicious. the presentation of the vanilla milkshakes was great and the french fries were delicious. The french onion soup was presented well and tested great as well. The oreo cake with the vanilla ice cream was a fantastic combination and tasted amazing, the cake was not stale and provided good flavors. The service from our waiter was great and prompt. It was close to closing time so we don’t know if it was because of that or if it’s the same when it’s packed but it was great either way. Overall, great experience with good food if you’re looking for that classic diner feel!

I went early in the morning at 8:45 am on a Tuesday (11/4). The diner had a few occupied tables, but there was no wait at all and we were quickly seated. There was a big parking lot which at the time I went wasn’t hard to find a space in at all. Almost as soon as we were seated our waitress came over and offered us drinks. The black coffee and latte came out in 5 minutes and both were pretty tasty just needing a sugar for sweetness. The diner was very spacious and the windows offered nice lighting. The seating was cushioned making the wait for the food comfortable. The food came out in only 15 minutes and the portion sizes were really impressive! You could get fresh squeezed orange juice at the bar which tasted refreshing and was perfect for the morning. In the same bar there were also displayed pastries which I didn’t get to try, but for anyone with a sweet tooth they looked amazing! I got an omelette which was very decadent and it came with a side of crispy hash browns. This diner was a nice way to start my day with a delicious breakfast for a total of around $45.40.

We were greeted by a very friendly counter waitress and Manager/Owner. The ambiance is a classic N.J. Diner look and feel . We ordered the pumpkin pancakes and real farm style pork sausage. Wow delicious. A great cup of Lacas diner coffee and the manager offered us some really good wholesome orange juice that tasted freshly squeezed. So if you're in the area stop in for some good N.J. diner food!

Your standard Jersey diner, serving large quantities of food for reasonable prices (low $20s for most entrees before tax and tip). The fried food is crisp, but loses that relatively quickly. Food is on the salty side, but within reason. I was a little disappointed that the liver was tough on the outside though. Exactly what it says on the tin. Service can be a bit slow or clueless, but within normal expectations.

Driving back from VA to Long Island and needed a place to eat. Stopped at the Colonial diner and were pleasantly surprised! The entire wait staff was so pleasant, friendly and attentive and the food was amazing!! Chicken rice soup was perfect and my patty melt cooked to perfection. Will definitely be stopping by again!!

I have to say that I give 5 stars for service. Phillip was hilarious and efficient. Will ask for him by name the next time we visit. 4 for ambience.. they've definitely stepped up their game in decor. I haven't been to this diner in well over a decade, so it was a very pleasant surprise to see how they've renovated. Maybe a 3 for food... and that's being giving... there was just no flavor. The best thing that I ate was my buttered rye toast and that seemed like it wasn't real butter. I ordered a frittata and it was a bit dry with no seasoning... the same with my hash browns. The corned beef hash was super dry... my daughter told me that her French toast was just ok. Even the cappuccino had room for improvement. I really wanted this place to work for us because it is so close to home and would be nice to have a diner to call our own. Maybe I will come here to try other items?

Not very good; will not return. food was not hot; mashed potatoes taste like they were instant and not real; gravy was awful. Meal did not have bread nor rolls to serve. Website boasts soup and salad bar butit has been gone since 2020

I've recently went to The Colonial Diner with two of my best friends. It was around 10 am on Saturday so it was quite busy. Nonetheless, we still managed to get a table, and the service came quite fast. The moment you step in, it's absolutely captivating. It's got these beautiful colonial brown tiles and round counter at the entrance. tables are a nice slick marble with wood embellishes as well as the chairs. It's got an amazing charm to it that really stands out once you enter. Now, there are many menu options that are fairly priced for any diner in New Jersey. I got one of their special, the pumpkin pancakes. The pancakes were great and just needed a bit more sugar. We ordered an appetizer of jalapeno poppers that were superb and we will 100% order again (They can be pretty hot once you get them!). Also, the hot chocolate was great! The service for the food did take a little longer but not as long as a regular restaurant that's for sure (it was also busy hour so it's understandable) but the waiters and waitresses were all very friendly and sweet. We all enjoyed eating here and talked for hours there! I would recommend going with other people to enjoy the beautiful interior of the diner.

A classic diner on a busy main drag. We went for breakfast on a weekday during December, nicely decorated and Christmas music playing- a nice morning vibe. Lots of booth seating and a number of counter seats as well. My breakfast sandwich and hash browns were good, nothing too special but no complaints. I will say there was a nice healthy serving of bacon in the sandwich. My husband had the blueberry pancakes, also good. Coffee was good. Server was very nice.

I went to the Colonial Diner in East Brunswick, NJ, on nov 5th,2025. i thought it was a nice place to eat any time of day. The place is clean, bright, and has a warm, old-school feeling. The staff is friendly and quick to help. The menu has a lot to choose from, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. I ordered chicken fingers with my friend as an appetizer. They were delicious. The fries were crispy, and the chocolate milk was really good. The prices are fair, and the food portions are big enough to take some home. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese as my meal and took it home. Whether you want a full meal or just coffee and dessert, the Colonial Diner is a solid spot for comfort food.

Not sure why we were sat in the back room when there were plenty of tables in the front. The walls in the back room were badly water stained and frankly, gross to look at.

First time in EB and thought of having breakfast here. No wait time however the person who brings you to the table was so rude!! She walked us over to the table and I kindly asked her if we can have a booth. There were several booths open bc it was morning and she just rolled her eyes at me. Didn't even say a word. Put the menu and utensils on the table and left. That just killed the mood. So tbh even if the food is good I wouldn't go there because of ppl like her and also the waitress was nice but she kept slamming everything on the table and randomly taking ketchup off our table to give to others which is fine but you can at least ask if we are using it or not. Sorry I'm just not used to this kind of service. I live in north Jersey and I have to say service here is top tier. Wont be going back to this EB diner!

We have eaten here many times when our family can't agree on what kind of food we want. Each time we leave well satisfied. My husband especially loves their French onion soup. I enjoy their triple decker bacon, lettuce, tomato and turkey sandwich or gyro. Their dinner entree selections are delicious as well. Their wait staff are pleasant and extremely efficient. They have no issue with special diets.

I have been here several times for both lunch and dinner and always enjoy the food. They do a consistently good job with their dishes. One of my favorites are the pumpkin pancakes (the cinnamon butter they give e you with them is great). The service can be a bit hit or miss though. Some of the waitstaff are absolutely stellar, and others very rarely will come check in on you once you have your meal so that can be a bit of a gamble. On a final positive note, there is also never a wait despite how crowded the parking lot can get due to the diner's large interior.

I just had an amazing dinner at this diner. They are updating the menu constantly and the fresh fish is fantastic. I decided to sit at the counter since I was dining alone, while there I watched how busy and attentive the service staff were. It was a pleasure to see the bright, clean and attractive interior. The owners really demonstrate how they care about their customers. Thank you for an awesome experience. I will be back soon.

The first thing that I noticed when I walked into Colonial Diner was the warm atmosphere. In my experience, the staff were very helpful and friendly. Our waiter repeatedly checked in and even notified us of their free drink refills. The menu has a wide variety of classic diner foods. I chose to get the Angus Burger, and my roommate got the Bacon Egg and Cheese. The burger was cooked medium rare (as requested) and was not dry. Aside from the burger, the mountain of nice, crispy fries that came as a side might as well have been the main course. There were so many French fries. The diner itself is very spacious, with large vinyl booths. It is well-lit with many chandeliers. Overall 8/10.

First time at this diner. Our waitress was wonderful. She was sweet to us and my son. Food was good. Had eggs and corned beef hash (which is homemade). Prices were reasonable also. I'm not a big diner person but I'll definitely be back

Stopped in at 830 pm. Was told I could order but only 5 minutes before they would not take orders. They close at 9pm. Ordered a simple hamburger med rare with fries $13 dollars. I asked if they would be able to drop the fries fresh . Server said yes. I got my burger. Not juicy rather dry stale roll. A few french fries obviously well done some hit some barely room temperature. All they had to do was say they could not do fries fresh. Instead their special Angus beef and short rib burger tasted like a dry version of any ordinary burger and frankly not better than other local diners. The young waiter came by to check if everything was ok, and then remind me while eating that would close at 9. Other parties were still there eating. Five minutes later he back asking me if I was finished while food was on my plate. Yeah I got the message pal. I'll give a two star since they were polite.

This restaurant is large and can accommodate large parties. We walked in on a Friday at lunchtime without a reservation and they were able to seat our party of 10 immediately. The menu is as large as the portions and the prices are reasonable. The parking lot is also large. The hosts and servers are friendly, fast & attentive. I had the BLT and everything was fresh. Thank you for hosting us!!

We ordered take out from here because my daughter wanted a Reuben and it's was the closest diner to where we were. Her food was good but BF and I had the French dip and it seems nothing had changed when it comes to seasoning. The sandwich and au jus lacked flavor. The meat was fatty and highly disappointing. Arby's makes a better French dip. I want to like this place since diners are limited in our area, but just can't.

My friends and I went here for brunch on a Saturday. Our waitress was lovely and amiable and the restaurant felt clean and organized. We ordered eggs Benedict, the snack platter, buttermilk pancakes with bacon, and sausage roll with hash browns. I had the sausage roll, which was satisfying but average. The hash browns were somewhat disappointing because I was expecting it to be crispy and savory, but it was soft and bland. The buttermilk pancakes were nice and fluffy and the bacon was crunchy. Finally, the snack platter was an array of deep fried foods, including mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders, which you can't go wrong with so yeah it's good too. But overall the food felt underwhelming. At least we left full :/

Great diner in East Brunswick NJ, the last one if you will. Standard diner fare although the menu is noticeably smaller than most diners. Daily soups of the day and a great Turkey Club. Excellent service, prices on par with most diners.

We arrived with a 12 top with 30 minutes before they closed. They welcomed us like family! The Server was an absolutely beautiful lady who treated us like we were her grandchildren! Living in Texas we no longer experience the great New Jersey diner experience which we absolutely had here. I had the classic turkey club sandwich and my wife had the tuna melt. Wish we could find beautiful places to eat like this down in Texas!

I recently visited Colonial Diner with my mom on Monday, 4/17. We arrived at 6:30 PM, and although the parking lot had a lot of cars, the parking lot was so spacious that there were still plenty of open spots near the entrance. We were greeted right away by a friendly host and seated immediately and our server, Jill, came over almost immediately and was very welcoming. The menu offers a variety of food from breakfast to dinner, with some vegan and gluten free options. My mom ordered the california wrap. I got the chicken and rice soup along with the ground angus steak with mashed potatoes and veggies. Jill was very attentive and even made sure I understood that the steak I ordered wasn't the same cut as a strip steak, which I appreciated since I hadn't realized that. I decided to try something new and was glad I did! My mom and I were both very pleased with our meals. Both of our meals were flavorful, warm, and well-portioned--plenty of leftovers for me! The chicken and rice soup could've used some more flavor but it still hit the spot and I ate every last drop! For dessert, I had their cheesecake with strawberries, which was absolutely amazing. My mom swore she didn't want any dessert, but the cheesecake was so tempting that she ended up sharing half with me! Jill is an amazing server--she made sure we were well taken care of without rushing us. The total for the meal didn't break the bank and was worth it, and you pay at the table, they accept cash or card. Overall, my experience was fantastic. The restaurant is clean, with a sleek black-and-white color scheme, and the staff is attentive and friendly. My mom and I definitely left full and satisfied. We'll be back for sure!

Before I even dive in, I'm going to admit that some of this is just me being picky! First, I don't understand why when there are so many empty tables in a restaurant, they feel the need to seat everyone right next to each other. My husband and I can't even talk because they seated couples in the booths right next to us and they are loud talkers. Meanwhile the other wall of booths is completely empty. It was especially enjoyable when one of the other customers started discussing her urinary tract issues. That made for an enjoyable meal - NOT! Our server was mediocre, just a flat personality. Other servers seemed much friendlier. She come by to check in with us until we were almost completely done eating. Had she stopped by earlier, I would have asked for a few more napkins since we were only provided with one each. We both ordered the "A Little Bit of Everything" which came with 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 bacon strips and a sausage. It all came on one average size plate, which would be okay, except that the eggs were piled on top of the pancakes. I prefer to eat the items separately, so I had to rearrange the plate before I dug in. I ordered my eggs scrambled. They were overly bland. No salt or pepper was added to them before they were cooked. The bacon was just ok, but also lacked flavor. And the sausage link was not a typical breakfast sausage. I just found the flavor to be odd and not all that enjoyable. Overall we found it to be bland and overpriced for the quality. The selection was also very limited. We've been to many diners around New Jersey, and this one is forgettable. We don't anticipate being back in this area in the future, but if we were, we'd find somewhere else for breakfast.

This is a classic Jersey diner with a great menu. The decor is so warm and inviting and has a classic vibe. Service is great and attentive. I got the chicken Ruben which was two chicken breasts; one tow many. It was a great twist on a classic sandwich. I was disappointed in the desserts. I love to get a dessert at a diner because they usually have an in house baker. I got the red velvet cake which was very dry. My friend got a cheesecake that had an almost non existent bottom crust. Overall a great place to meet for a casual lunch

On November 10, 2024, I visited the Colonial Diner in East Brunswick with two of my friends for breakfast at 10AM. This diner is located right off Rt. 18 in East Brunswick and has a parking lot right along the highway which is where we parked. The interior of the diner was very spacious and had a vibrant atmosphere. It has flashy checkered floors, a long counter in the center of the diner with stools, and iconic booth seating. Once we sat down, our waiter immediately brought us drinks and took our orders shortly after. I ordered French toast and both of my friends ordered huevos rancheros. The service was excellent and our waiter was very friendly and humorous. Overall, we were able to eat and get our check in under an hour and for the three of us it only cost around $60 which is pretty reasonable.

Back again Trying 2 scrambled eggs with corned beef hash and a Diet Pepsi with lemon again! No wait for a table on a Sunday at 10:15 am Friendly service

Hard to express how a mediocre meal will ruin your night. We ordered two meals and a dessert. I had the "french Dip" which was supposed to have roast beef, but instead had two "steakums" and my wife had the "crispy fried chicken sandwich" which turned out to be more fried bread crumbs than chicken on a roll. To top it off we chose cheesecake with strawberries, The "cheesecake" was hard and really yellowish in color, with strawberries on the plate. We were afraid to take more than one mouthful. It gives me pain to write this but I would say if you are in East Brunswick and looking for a diner, skip this one and keep driving you will be better off. It was a waste of time and money.

Food is generally good Only problem is that it comes out on a cold plate or lukewarm more often than you like

Came to the diner last Saturday at the suggestion of a member of our traveling party. My complements to our efficient, attentive and pleasant server, Jennifer, who confidently answered all of our questions with a smile, who somehow memorized each lunch order from our table of four, and returned to the table with our food without forgetting who had ordered what. A true professional. We'll be back and when we do, we'll be sure to ask for her. Oh, and my caprese chicken wrap was wonderful as was the price.

I haven't been back to Jersey in over 5 years. I miss the food. I went on a super fast trip for a couple of surprise parties and one of the must eat items was breakfast in a real Jersey diner. The Colonial was everything a diner is supposed to be, so why did I give it only 4 stars? The matzoh ball soup as desperately in need of seasoning and herbs. The homefries were hash browns and very generic, not the real seasoned home fries I was hoping for. But the omelette and the scrambled eggs were fabulous, though and our waitress was friendly and on the ball, I forgot her name but she said she was from Haiti. All in all a very solid diner, which if they could transport it to Florida it would be packed all day every day.

Love the Colonial! Food always the best! Been coming here for over 40 years and today met my mom with my dog and was able to sit outside on their patio! Very dog friendly! Best service ever - thank you Jenna! We will be back!

How do You mess up a Grilled cheese sandwich with bacon lettuce and tomato? Tost was grilled with low quality oil, not butter. Tomato had absolutly no flavor (best way to strip a tomato of its flavor is to keep it in the refrigerator). Bacon has to be of the LOWEST quality not to have flavor. Cheese tastes good, but artificial cheese does not. Lettuce is great when its fresh, not slimed bottom of the container. I can only imagine that this location uses ONLY the most low quality ingredients in all their dishes. Also, the sandwich was $13.00. Grilled BLT W/ Cheese. C'mon Man. I literally had to go home and make my own to satisfy the craving afterwards. Total cost - $1.98

We stopped here to have a "Jersey diner experience". We were really hoping to find a place with the metal front like you see in the movies, but came across this place and decided to stop since it had been in business a long time. I had a great experience at a diner in Minneapolis/St. Paul once (Mickey's if you are wondering) and was hoping to replicate that experience again. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. The food here is just ok. We started off with nachos and they were good. Melted cheese on tortilla chips with sour cream, pico de gallo, and guacamole on the side. We also ordered bacon wrapped jalapenos and those were very good. I do recommend these if you are thinking to order an appetizer. My husband ordered a salad and it looked very fresh with lots of nice ingredients. I got a cup of the chicken and rice soup. It was very good, so I'd recommend that as well. Where things fell apart, were the entrees. They were flavorless. It was an "eat because it's food and you're hungry" moment. It's a diner, so we weren't expecting the chicken marsala to taste like an italian restaurant, but we weren't expecting it to be lacking in flavor either. The fried flounder coloring on the batter looked odd. I'm not sure if it was cooked at an improper temperature, but it did not look appetizing. My mother-in-law politely ate it. I got the Thanksgiving on a plate. It was completely lacking flavor or seasoning. The apple "stuffing" was more like mashed apple jam. Everything else on the plate was meh. My brother-in-law got a sandwich and it looked good and his fries were really good. Perhaps this place should just focus on a few things they do really well and stick with that. Sandwiches and fries are a safe bet and it was good. The bacon wrapped jalapenos were really good. The soup and salad were good. If you order the right thing, you can enjoy a good meal.

the foot and service are excellent. Large portions and the staff are fantastic.. as far as the ambiance goes it is a Diner after all but very clean and spacious we are two couples who meet there at least once a month.

I love this Diner. Spiro runs a good ship. Clean loyal, experienced no drama no silliness they don't get the orders. Wrong food is fresh and delicious. His workers have been with him for years. Try it you'll like it.

I went for a nice date with my friend. The diner itself looked really comfy and stylish with cool chandelier lights. I was surprised to see how many people were there on a Thursday afternoon. The staff were really nice as they greeted us and sat us down quickly. They were very accommodating and gave us more than enough time to decide what we wanted. I ordered a juicy big California burger as it looked so appetizing on the menu. Once I got it it looked exactly as pictured and even bigger than I thought. The fries were so crisp and hot, absolutely delicious. I wasn't able to finish the burger but every bite was delicious especially with the bacon and avocado. In total with my friend's two cups of tea and my burger and soda it was only about twenty six dollars so not bad at all. Money well spent for sure, I want to go again for the good service and to try their breakfast and desserts.

We had a great meal BUT.... Kids meals come with a cookie. Waiter came over and asked chocolate chip or sugar. Responded chocolate chip. The bill came and we were charged $4.00 a cookie. That's not a major issue. That's a miscommunication. When it was brought to the hostesses attention, she made a huge deal about it. Refused to remove them from bill. Blamed it on us. Eventually she went to the her manager and he handed her $8.00 Not only did they lose $8.00 they lost us as customers. That's the way the cookie crumbles. Customer service goes a long way.

The Colonial Diner has a very consistent level of food quality. If you like Jersey Diners you will like The Colonial. Generous portions done well. The wait staff is cordial and efficient. The diner is clean.

Haven't been here since it's hey days in East Brunswick when it was a real diner with a huge menu and all the food was truly hand made. These days the menu is pretty limited compared to other NJ diners. Noticed an unusual smell as soon as I walked in not related to food aroma. Got an omelet and it came out really weird - very high and fluffed up like it was pumped with air or made with whipped powdered eggs or something. Not tasty. The breakfast potatoes were hash browns that were either from frozen or instant (do they make instant hash browns?). Another lingering victim of Covid? Waitress was fine. Wouldn't go back.
