I was aware of the lower rating Colonial Diner has on Yelp but was surprised by the perfect 5 star rating the diner gets on Grubhub. Our curiosity, naturally, made us want to give it a try. A bit of a letdown, after all.
I had a hankering for French onion soup last night and was happy to see it was offered here. It was just a bit too salty for my liking, but happy it arrived piping hot.
Per usual, we had to try the wings. I try to avoid breaded wings, but was unsure of what these were since there was no description- we think they might have been fried, lightly in flour but still unsure. It was also disappointing to find the wings dry, with sauce on the side....again, not described. BUT! Redeemable- they were tasty wings...extremely crisp and tender.
My boyfriend and I made a deal that if the gyro ended up being made with lamb he would eat it, and if it was chicken he would have my burger.
Once again, the descriptions failed us, so he was stuck with the gyro. The lamb was cooked well but the entire thing was ruined by the overly soggy pita. He kept saying how tasty it was but just wished he was able to eat it as a hand held rather than a fork and knife.
My burger was nothing to write home about. I ordered it without a bun and enjoyed it for what it was. Both sandwiches came with fries which arrived on the limp, soggy side, as fries usually do in takeout orders.
We were always on the fence about ordering here since the ordering interface is inconsistent when it comes to item descriptions. Some descriptions are extremely helpful and others just don't exist. I would suggest the team at Colonial Diner goes back and clearly describe each item- if someone is gluten intolerant and wants wings but has no idea if they're baked or not, then you're sorta s**t outta luck, just as an example. It's just frustrating, is all.
