Our kids were thrilled to see the massive amounts of gems and minerals in this place. It is extensive and fun to look at. When you think you’re done, there’s a downstairs as well. Just park close - or enjoy walking through the entire campus… which we’d also fun too!

My husband and I just met a couple who attends your school they had a blowout to the lake we never exchanged names but we want to say we hope they got home safely and to get back to school safely this week. You produce smart kids we hope we cross paths with these smart kids again.

Google
As visitor prospective, this campus seems small and limited spaces but views are beautiful, designed areas are not easy to find and understand, campus polices seem aggressive in patrol which could be better safety or too many issues around campus

Google
Administration has hit a new low in quality. 80% money grab over just a few decades ago. Parking is also outrageous, little to no review process, with tickets given freely curb to curb. Avoid this campus.

Bad reviews are from people that couldn't cut it. Yes we spent about the same as CU but an engineering degree from Mines is worth about 4 times more over a lifetime career. It's difficult but if it wasn't would it be worth it?

My daughter is currently in her 1st year and in the dorms, bringing her home because of plumbing issues-yep no water! Cannot even pee where she is living! Last time needed to shower in another dorm! 2nd time!

School of Mines! ♥️ Thank you for a warm welcome, organized to the T for the Pathfinder Conference.

Google
Great academics, but questionable management. Mines was able to prepare me for a great career and the professors are great, but the administration/management seems to be very intent on wasting money on projects that do not need to be done. They destroyed half of Mines Park to redo twenty-year-old student housing that did not need to be torn down. They are constantly tearing down and rebuilding buildings that do not need to be torn down. I worry for the endowment of this school, as they are clearly not using it effectively.

Yelp
Nice campus that is a good size and not too big. Also in close walking distance from downtown golden. A nice and quiet walk over the weekend and free parking.

Yelp
I'm having a blast experiencing Mines via my daughter and friends! Their embarrassment of me doing so brings me great joy in life

Yelp
Never have I been so insulted by the registar in my life! And this is not my first college experience so I thought I knew how to handle myself to get things done... ya right! Mines has no intention of letting you out of there like a normal college! Want your transcript? Good luck. Want to get some classes transfered in? In another life time. I understand that this school is one of the best in the industry and I am not knocking the teachers... but the staff that runs the school, you guys are the worse to deal with! Who still hand evaluates graduation audits???

Yelp
Let me start by saying that I have been to Mines as a student (undergraduate & graduate) and a corporate recruiter. Coming from this perspective, I have obvious positive bias towards this institution. Also, whatever you get out of your education is what you truly put in. Personally, I believe that Mines is a great institution that helps future engineers achieve their potential. From my experience, Mines has provided a lot of the skill sets I've needed to become successful in my career. Also, the programs at Mines are ever changing and evolving for the better. When I was taking classes, we definitely had a little bit more of a textbook structure. However, I see classes now incorporating more hands-on assignments and topics. Interestingly, I see classes moving towards topics that will truly be used in industry. I do believe that the education that you get from Mines will help you develop the skills you need to learn and be useful to a company. Opportunity. I definitely credit Mines will all of the opportunities I've received in my a lot of my life. Mines has helped me obtain funding, internships, connections, and jobs. Outside of this, there is a lot of opportunity for studying resources and help. If you aren't doing well, there are so many resources to help you do better. It is up to the individual to make use of these resources for their benefit. With all of the help that Mines offers academically, I believe that anyone can pass if enough effort is put into it. People do have to work and go to school. If you understand your limits and your financial ability, plan accordingly to what you think you can accomplish. Don't spread yourself too thin and only take on what you can chew. Honestly, the staff has been incredible to. If you give any normal person respect, I would believe that they would treat you with just as much respect. Respect is earned and given accordingly. I have received so much help from professors and administrative staff. They do want you to succeed. They are willing to help. But, be polite. Volatile conversations don't typically get you anywhere. This has just been my experience at Mines. I tried to address some comments I've seen in some of the other negative reviews I saw. Mines is a tough school, but it can be done. With hard work you can become successful. But, it's up to you to seize your own success and to pave your own way.

Yelp
Colorado School of Mines is a fantastic school! I've received exemplary education and have a fabulous department head for geophysics. This is one of three school that has an undergraduate department in this major and it's world renown. This department is also great at getting students out in the field for REUs and internships. One thing that makes this school special is the attitude of the students. I'm a CA native. Everyone revolves around their own personal world there. Here, students go out of their way to help you. This is one of only a few places where I could misplace a wallet with cash in it an have it returned to me so quickly with everything in tact. In some of the previous reviews I've seen, Mines is a place where what you put into it you get out of it. If you want to have the full college experience and get good grades. It's possible here. You just have to apply a little time management.

Yelp
This school is definitely a pain to get through, to deal with, and to do something more like a college kid would while attending here. The teachers are generally pretty good. Your department is awesome once you're actually into it. Trying to visit the admins is basically a waste of time though because you'll find out more else where, and the lines are usually outrageous when you're trying to get things done. A degree from here is the best value in the nation though. It ranks equally as high as the return on educational investment over a career as Harvard does and higher than many other schools. The fact that this is a state school, which makes the tuition lower, pushes it to the top of the national rankings. Stick with it, and it's worthwhile if you're heading here.

Yelp
This place seems to offer many educational opportunities for both science and technology as well as summer sports camps for kids! I especially enjoyed their cafeteria offerings!! Thanks CO STEM & Science Initiative!!

Yelp
I'm not much of a reviewer, however seeing the other poor reviews about this school, I felt as though I must add a different perspective. Yes, Mines is a place where you make it or you don't. But that's life. You can float on your intelligence if you're intelligent enough or you can work hard. If you're not ready to work hard, you may want to explore other options. Go-getters do well, procrastinators, like myself, need to learn quickly how much you are able to procrastinate. But that isn't so much a fact of the school than it is a fact of necessity no matter what you venture into. The registrar & administration can be a pain. They are a pain at every school I've attended, so that's not a real problem. Deadlines matter in the real world, and they matter here too. However, if you find yourself in a bind, navigating their terrain is much easier when you smile and are humble enough to accept your fate. One woman lost my paperwork, but the university is small enough that I described our meeting over email, and she promptly remembered me and the problem was soon solved. Perhaps the other reviewers were undergraduate students, whereas my experience is at the graduate level. But, at the same time I was an undergrad once as well. So I will say that the professors do not coddle you here. You are not their child, you are a student, legally (and likely self-referencing yourself as) an adult. If you want help, you must address them. If you want to focus on research, you must find who to work with and how to go about doing it. What I find most enticing about the School of Mines is their connection to the industry. That connection is good for alumni seeking work yes, but it also directs how professors interact with you. Industry is not some forgiving force that owes you a job, and likewise professors don't owe you passing grades. They owe you knowledge. And they provide that in abundance. Mines is at the top of the game.

Yelp
This review is from a corporate perspective and recruiting. I really like the campus! It's easy to navigate, the buildings are relatively new and the rec center is beautiful! The students are of a very high caliber and my company defintiely always works with the career center and recruiting students/alumni.

Yelp
CSM is a special place. I applaud their efforts to make it a more welcoming and positive environment for the pursuit of higher education. Currently, they are: 1) Building a new residence hall and dining hall -- They are working to make CSM a more close-knit campus and lessen the number of commuters 2) They are increasing the number of after hours activites 3) Attempting to resolve parking, or lack thereof Coming in as a grad student who did my undergrad at Colorado College, the undergraduate life here seems strained. I probably wouldn't have been able to do it, and kudos to the kids who can. The vibe here is very focused and straightforward, which leaves little room for creativity and growth. While this may sound appealing to prospective parents, remember that college is a time for growth, academically, intellectually, mentally, and socially. I believe all are equally important for happiness and a positive transition into adult life. While there are a lot of improvements that can be made, CSM does a fantastic job of preparing its students for careers in the real world. That being said, if you're interested in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, aerospace, or the like, you're better off going to CU-Boulder. CSM is a very energy-centric school, whether it is traditional hydrocarbon extraction, biofuels, or renewables. This is evident in the kinds of companies that come to recruit at career fair. The entire first floor of the gym are energy companies. All other industries are relegated to the less spacious second floor. All that being said, your college experience is what you make of it. You will go through ups and downs, but as long as you have a good support network of friends, teachers, and parents, you'll do just fine.

Yelp
Colorado School of Mines is truly a great place to go to college. As an undergraduate and graduate student at the school, I've experienced the works. For starters, if you are looking for a good education in engineering (or sciences) look no further. The opportunity that is available at the school is astounding. I've had four internships, traveled to 5 continents, and had over $100K in scholarships all because of the opportunities that I took advantage of while at CSM. The atmosphere is something that I loved, but it isn't for everyone. The school is small, although it is growing in size, so that can be both good and bad. I loved that when I was on campus I knew (or at least had seen) most of the people around me. Since everyone is in a challenging program there is a camaraderie that comes along with every Mines student. Golden is a great place to live. There is a ton of outdoors activities to do and plenty of breweries and restaurants. It's close enough to Denver and Boulder to go out on the weekends, but I love coming home to Golden.

Yelp
My husband and all of his friends went here and they are all the most successful, well rounded people I know. From what they have all told me, the petroleum engineering (PE) major here is really tough (physics 2 will get you), but they all graduated and their salaries doubled 5 years after they graduated and keeps going up. Great benefits if you want to start a family. Must be willing to live in the epicenter in America of PE jobs, TX/ and places with smaller amounts of PE jobs like Denver or California, etc. PE is a very high stress job but you will never feel like you don't have enough money and you will be able to pay your loans back within 2-3 years if you have that as a goal. Good luck!

Yelp
I was apart of movie Premier held at the theater on campus. It was a great event and the space was wonderful for the event. The seating was for 1,100 on the main floor which was wonderful. We had such a great time.

Yelp
One of the best colleges campuses I've been on. Went here for graduate school and had a great time. It's clean and safe! I could walk home at midnight and never had to look over my shoulder. Golden is my favorite city in all of Colorado.
