My husband and I stayed here for our one year wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived the staff was friendly, courteous, and attentive. In honor of our milestone, the hotel upgraded our room to a suite for free. It was such a delightful surprise, and we truly appreciated it. The room was spacious and stocked with plenty of towels, extra pillows, an extra blanket for the bed, and even two mini fridges. The grounds were lovely. It’s obvious the staff takes pride in their landscaping. In addition to all of the lovely flowers, there is a bocce ball court and an area set up to play horseshoes. Walking into this hotel is like stepping back in time, and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. Thank you Columbia Gorge Hotel for making a special day even more memorable. We look forward to visiting again in the future.

My wedding at the Columbia Gorge Hotel on April 12, 2025, was an absolute dream. We hosted our rehearsal dinner, reception, and farewell brunch at the hotel, and every moment was flawless. Cheyanna, our primary contact, was incredibly responsive and ensured every thing went smoothly. We also adored Alp, the hotel’s general manager, whose humor and kindness added to the experience. Most of our guests traveled from out of town, and nearby hotels like Columbia Cliff Villas and Westcliff lodge offered budget-friendly options that were within walking distance of the CGH. I stayed in the Penthouse Riverfront Suite at Columbia Cliff Villas the night before, getting ready there on the wedding day. The breathtaking view overlooking the ceremony site was unforgettable. The Honeymoon Suite at CGH, where we stayed the night of the wedding, was the epitome of vintage elegance—perfectly matching our vision. The CGH staff handled everything with grace. A few guests were cut off from drinking, which was likely for the best. I was initially concerned about post-reception cleanup, but the staff neatly organized my decor for easy pickup the next morning—a huge relief given how much I brought! The food was exceptional, the staff attentive, and the scenic beauty of the gorge was unparalleled. We’re already excited to return and relive our perfect day. Highly recommend the Columbia Gorge Hotel for a seamless, unforgettable wedding experience.

One of my all time favorite hotels! The history and location are amazing. Including the 2nd highest waterfall of the area right on property! Gorgeous grounds always so enticing to walk about, and the upkeep of the historic buildings is superior!|Staff members are so professional providing first class services from check in to the dining room.|Special thanks to Alyssa in the lounge, her affable service and lovely personality made for an enjoyable respite from travel |Look forward to my next stay as it’s a highlight of my visit to this area!

Had a lovely stay at the Columbia Gorge Hotel for our anniversary. The staff added many little touches that made the experience extra special. Comfortable room in a historic hotel with a restaurant and lounge on site. The only downfall I can see is that it’s nestled between the train tracks and Highway but it was hot enough we had the windows closed and it was hardly noticeable. Only a few minutes into the main part of Hood River with plenty of food and dining options.

The Sunday brunch created by Chef Cody was amazing! Hands down the best brunch I've had! Our server, Michal, was so attentive and friendly. She anticipated our needs before we did. Chef Cody created allergy-friendly options for me that were creative and superb! Thank you for a fantastic experience! Shout out to the ladies who run the spa too. They are wonderful!

We had an absolutely amazing stay at the Columbia Gorge Hotel. Our room overlooked a stunning waterfall with a perfect view of the river—truly one of the most beautiful settings we've ever experienced. Waking up to the sound of the waterfall and watching the sunset over the gorge was magical. The hotel itself is full of charm and history, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming throughout our visit. Highly recommend for anyone looking to relax, recharge, and enjoy nature at its finest!

Beautiful place to stay and gorgeous scenery. My daughter was married here and had the rehearsal dinner, welcome party,, wedding ceremony and reception all at the Columbia Gorge Hotel and it was the most beautiful wedding that I’ve ever seen. The venue staff was amazing and the food was fantastic. I can’t wait to come back for a vacation.

Hi - we recently had our wedding at the Columbia Gorge Hotel and Spa - it was spectacular! We had about 50 guests and our venue coordinator (Cheyanna) was so helpful to organize the day and support with the ceremony and event. The whole experience was very well organized - the staff were super friendly (especially bartender Alyssa!). The food and appetizers were delicious (especially the swedish meatballs). They even allowed us to create some new menu items (watermelon feta mint salad was great!). As far as accommodations, the rooms were nice and clean - watch out for gnats on summer nights though when the windows are open - they don't bite but there were a lot of em! The main entrees for dinner were also delicious and I'm still getting a bunch of positive comments from my guests about how good the food was. I also appreciate that Cheyanna supported the kids that were part of the wedding party - including offering kids meals for them during dinner. The location of the venue is fantastic - some of our wedding pictures look like we were in a storybook with the bridge and little creek running through the property. We would highly recommend this wedding venue to all of our friends and family!

Yelp
Only one hotel elevator must be manned by staff Hard to use nobody available We were on the third floor

Yelp
One of our favorite hotel/spa locations. Sits right along the river and has beautiful views . The grounds are fairytale like and we spent quite a bit of time waking around enjoy the flowers , trees, river, streams. It's a historic hotel that has been updated but kept its old charm. They have a nice restaurant inside that has a long room with windows that overlook the river. The food is considered upscale and was all very good. Yummy cocktails and several beers. The rooms were very comfortable with nice bathrooms. The prices are good in " off season " and can get pricey at different times of the year. There is a spa and a little gift shop and the drive into Hood River is about 5 min. The staff were fun to talk to and they have a little historic elevator that they use to take you to different floors of the hotel. It's definitely worth the stop to stay here. Loved our stay.

Yelp
The hotel itself is fine, quirky with lovely grounds. But we stayed here based on a restaurant menu that looked like they were capable of being able to accommodate Celiac (gluten free). We sat down for our dinner reservations, and our server had zero idea what on the menu or be safe for me. She specifically called out the osso bucco as "not safe", but couldn't tell me why. She suggested that I eat the salmon special, but otherwise was unable to tell me what would be safe. The manager came over and made it clear that many items, such as the osso bucco, are not made in house, so they can't control whether there's been cross-contact in its preparation. The fryer is not gluten free. The only mention on the menu is that gluten free bread and pasta are available. But it doesn't sound like the kitchen is trained to handle Celiac. So we left.

Yelp
My family and I arrived to this hotel thinking we would have a nice experience due to its beautiful outdoor scenery. As soon as we arrived to check in. (Around 5:30pm) the ladies in the front desk both greeted us with a bad attitude. We were so excited to stay here and were amazed of how beautiful it is inside. I don't know why but instead of greeting us with a nice welcome, we were cut very short on answers and basically said take it or leave it. My son asked the front desk if they had a gym and they immediately cut them short and said no this is a historic place there. There's nothing here!! I was shocked when he told me this! We went downstairs to have dinner at the restaurant and it was better experience. Our waitress Brenda was so kind and very helpful. She treated us very cheerful and was very patient and thoughtful with any of our questions. The pianist was very outgoing and made our experience a lot better! The bedrooms were OK they were clean, no complaints. My only complaint was the ladies in the front desk! They need a lot more customer service training!!

Yelp
I arrived at this hotel tired and angry due to a hotel I stayed prior several days were anything but relaxing. I was very happy here, for one, they have bathrooms in the rooms (one must expect it, but I had just stayed several days in a hotel that didn't have one) and I truly appreciated that. I was able to get some much needed sleep here too I really enjoyed their public spaces, neighborhood in general. I wish the WiFi was better, but then again most people are here for vacation not work like me. So I had to use my hotspot for most of my work needs. Staff were very nice although I didn't engage all that much as I was there for work, so simply arrived in the evening to just sleep. I have no complaints, easy smooth Check out process.

Yelp
From the moment we attempted to check in to our much-anticipated stay at the Columbia Gorge Hotel and Spa for a wedding party, the experience was fraught with disappointment and frustration. Despite the premium rate we paid(inflated rate for the wedding), the service and accommodations were severely lacking. We were told the rate was negotiated and special for the weeding. See the pictures for the rates prior to their "Wedding Season" rate increase and one during their "Wedding Season" rate increase. Both are significantly lower than the rate we were charged. Management's response was "We are always booked during Wedding Season and this is the wedding party rate, our rates are not that low during Wedding Season. Well, proof other wise is in the pictures. Firstly, the front desk denied my wife the ability to check in without my presence, which was highly inconvenient. When we arrived at noon, hoping for an early check-in, we were met not only with a refusal but with outright rudeness. We were curtly told to return at 3:30 PM, as "we don't even start checking rooms for a few more hours," despite the fact that official check-out time was only an hour prior, at 11 AM. Our room, when we finally accessed it, was in a deplorable state with remnants of food on the floor--clearly not cleaned properly for our (or any) arrival. The lack of cleanliness extended beyond just superficial issues; the shower handle was broken, the shower spout was crooked and detached from the wall, and an antiquated vent in the bathroom was a breeding ground for bugs. Even more disturbing was a vent in the bathroom through which we could see into the adjacent room, an egregious breach of privacy. The general state of the hotel mirrored the condition of our room--signs of disrepair were everywhere. Compounding the physical shortcomings were the staff, whose demeanor and professionalism left much to be desired. Their apparent indifference was underscored by a failed room service order, which was never delivered because the kitchen was busy with a mere 10 diners. Amenities were non-existent; there wasn't even a dresser in our room, only a mini-fridge hidden away in a closet. The preparation (or lack thereof) for the wedding event was equally inadequate, with uncleaned, dirty chairs and a cocktail hour area that was not only unswept but still littered with construction footprints and dirt. This experience at the Columbia Gorge Hotel and Spa was not only a letdown but an exercise in frustration and discomfort. It is disheartening to report that this establishment fails to deliver on the basics of hospitality, cleanliness, and customer service. Travelers and event planners should consider looking elsewhere to avoid the array of issues we encountered.

Yelp
We loved everything about this quaint, beautiful, and stately hotel. Our only regret is we were just passing thru one night and did not realize that this hotel is a destination all of it's own. The location is spectacular and it's full of trails that lead to secret gardens and waterfalls. The hotel restaurant is first class and service was amazing. Huge recommend and we plan to be back!

Yelp
This is not a safe space nor one to close your eyes in! I ran out the first night I came due to the spirits lurking in my room and throughout the building. Unless you want that experience, this is not where you want to stay especially for the price. Besides being old and outdated, this place is actually haunted. Upon further research, while sleeping in my truck I may add, I found that spirits are sitting on people, causing bad dreams, making sounds and smells, and even harming people to the point of traumatization. This was not what I signed up for and they're refusing to refund the stay. This is a highly unprofessional hotel, false advertising, and intolerant of people's beliefs. While some are excited by paranormal activities, others want to steer clear, like myself. Never again. And even if it wasnt haunted, the outside doesn't make up for the lack of the inside, especially when they're raking in the level of money they are doing at these rates.

Yelp
The hotel was easy to find and easy to access. Right off of the main road out that way. Since the elevator is over 100 years old, you need staff assistance. We just walked up to the 2nd floor. The lines on the stairs can make your eyes bug out and cause vertigo. Use the handrail! Our room was tucked in the corner on the far left of the hotel. We had a garden view and could see a small part of the stream. It was our only choice during the booking. The room was large, decorated nicely, and clean. I would even consider it 'huge' compared to a lot of other hotel rooms. Even the bathroom was huge. Everything looked in good shape but kept with the old-timey feel. We walked the grounds and enjoyed the peace, quiet, and views without plans to do anything else. If we had to complain about anything, we would say that our dinner wasn't all that. The mushroom ravioli and the steak were not up to par in our opinion. We've had better for way cheaper. Breakfast was fine but we were charged $8 for coffee. Instead, we should have walked out the door to the complimentary coffee in the lobby. Service, however, was excellent. All the staff was great. Our other gripe would be that the bed was a little hard, but hey, it's a hotel. You get what you get. At least it was clean! We could have stayed another night but had to get back. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Yelp
WOW I'm am not this guy!!!!! But. Unbelievable! I can not believe this happened. My wife and I are staying here at the Gorge to go to a friends wedding not here at the Columbia Gorge Hotel. We were hanging out in the bar with some folks who had most likely just paid a large sum to have their wedding here at the Columbia Gorge Hotel and the manager came in and rudely told us to leave the area! What a Customer Service Super Clutz!! I ended up responding to this guy the way he came at me...... He then told me to GO TO MY ROOM!!!! You can't make this xxxxx up/// it really happened you actually MANAGED ER TO PISS OFF LIKE??? 20 buyers at 1 time!! Hey we are hiring over at my place id love to steal this JEWEL from the Columbia Gorge!! Check out this photo I've attached. I was funbling pisst like no other looking for the Yelp app and found this and could totally see why they've lowered their price!!!!

Yelp
I booked this hotel on December 8th. I was scheduled to arrive on December 26th but had to cancel my trip for family reasons. I contacted the hotel two weeks before the trip and was told they would not issue a refund for the $663 I paid for two rooms. When booking, it only said I would be charged $50 if I canceled before the arrival date. The email confirmation says I would be charged if I didn't cancel within 72 hours of the check-in date. I called two weeks before the check in, and they refused to issue a refund. I should have paid attention to the Yelp reviews; many people have complained about how this place is run/staffed. Warning to anyone considering staying at Columbia Gorg Hotel: check all the Google, yelp, and Better Business Bureau reviews in advance. I'll attach an email confirmation as proof of WHAT I WAS TOLD IN ADVANCE about the cancellation policy. I'm sure they will respond as if my claim has no validity, but the email confirmation is proof that can't be disputed; what makes this hotel think they can, in good faith, keep $660 of someone's money when they have reached out two weeks in advance to cancel a booking. That is just preposterous.

Yelp
We spent our honeymoon night at this hotel 37 years ago and just stopped by as we are in Hood River for a wedding. Walked the lovely grounds and stopped in at the bar for a drink. The bartender/waitperson totally ignored us and served several other people who came in after us. We left without ever being acknowledged. Unbelievable!!

Michael L.

Yelp
I had made a reservation with the hotel, however, a day before arrival I was told my rate was not valid in their system, they don't know why it allowed me to book it, and that the real rate was $400 more. Is it my fault that their system glitch booked me in at a cheap rate? Absolutely not. When I asked if they would meet me half way on the rate, I was told no and to either accept the rate or the reservation would be cancelled. Needless to say I decided not to stay and ended up booking a hotel in a more walkable part of the city for a lower place. What poor customer service this place has and will not be attempting to stay again in the future.

Yelp
Made reservations and was planning to go to your Sunday brunch as a special for my daughter to celebrate her 21st birthday. We even "made reservations"FOR THE BRUNCH with the nice lady at the desk the night beforehand. Come Sunday morning, the dining room and front area of the hotel are ghostly empty, no bell to ring,no host to seat us and clueless employees puttering around that don't seem to have any idea that that had advertised and taken reservations for Sunday brunch, March 3 2024. The front desk manager was apologetic but we didn't receive a discount a coupon, a free lunch or anything after being shockingly disappointed. Very bad business. No one to take responsibility. The hotel is lovely and the room (with the exception of the fan/ heater blowing directly on me on my bed all night) was fine, but this miserable mistake SHOULD be completely compensated for and nothing has been done. Not going to spend $300.00 here again. Will not be back.

Yelp
We chose the Columbia Gorge Hotel as our wedding venue and we had the best day of our lives. The venue is gorgeous, the people were so kind and helpful, and Marrisa was amazing. She working with my planner for months to make sure all of the details were nailed down. On the day, I didn't have to worry about anything. The ceremony and reception area was gorgeous, the setup and breakdown were seamless, and our stay was a blast. Our guests may have enjoyed the party a little bit too much, but the staff was so incredible. We couldn't be more thankful to Marrisa and everyone who worked that week for helping (and tolerating) us, we loved it!

OJ J.

Yelp
I stayed there for a few days, and if your definition of historic dirty, unmaintained, and poorly and unsafe prepared food, then this is the place for you. Except for a guy called Chris in the hotel, the staff was excellent. Chris was not nice to us. In fact, the only mistake towards him is booked in the hotel which is basically paying him money for business he earns money from. I got one breakfast there, and the food was ok. It was not bad until I found what appears to be a twist tier in my omelet Anywhere I looked, the chairs were filthy. I attached a couple of pictures. The grounds look green but poorly maintained. Weed is everwherey. This place used to be nice one day, but its not worth the cost today.

Yelp
This is the worst hotel I have experienced in years. On check in we were placed in a room that was next to the loud highway on one side and a trash dump on the other. There was no help onsite. Elevator was broken. Ice machine non existent. We asked to check out and manager was rude couldn't possibly let us check out. We stayed two days hostage to the setting. Final straw was being woken at 530 by a broken smoke alarm. All help was rude. Hotel reeks of urine. Camp outside on the dirt before staying here.

Yelp
Not What I Expected Stayed for 2 nights in August 2022. First, the positives: grounds are beautiful and nicely maintained. It's very peaceful and serene. I found the staff to be great - warm, friendly and welcoming. Despite obvious staffing shortages, they do a really good job and they work hard (be nice to them). The bed was pretty comfortable and the river view from my second floor room was very nice. The property is pet friendly ($50); they even had a welcome bag for my dog which was a nice touch. Now for the not so positive: There was nothing in our room about the hotel, services, history, etc. To reach the front desk, I had to call the hotel on my cell since no one answered when I dialed zero. There is not a secure internet connection for guests. Historic is one thing, old is another - the rooms need a refresh (carpeting, paint, more outlets, HVAC). However, my biggest issue is the elevator. It is 100 years old and needs to be operated by an employee. Because they are short-staffed, oftentimes you have to wait for someone to operate the lift since employees are doing multiple jobs. Stairs are available if you don't mind using them (with the expensive hotel rates, I do mind; this is not Paris). This is the biggest reason I would stay elsewhere in the Gorge

Kathleen W.

Yelp
Beautiful super old Hotel! Definitely pay the extra for the river view as the view is spectacular and the cost is minimal. The non river side also has freeway noise that is a little annoying. We ate breakfast and dinner in their restaurant, be sure and make a reservation for a table with a view. The breakfast was worth the $$ but I would check YELP and head somewhere else for dinner. Not horrible just not exceptional. The service was impeccable the food quality could have been better. Overall it was a great stay!

Yelp
Our anniversary weekend at the Columbia Gorge Hotel was amazing. If you have never been/stayed here I recommend it. The grounds are so beautiful. Our room was right above a waterfall and the view from our room were fantastic. Dinner at the hotel was delicious. The staff was incredible and the room was cozy. We visited a museum for planes and cars. 4 hangars stuffed with things to look at. Hood River is only an hour from portland and is a great getaway.

Yelp
Stayed one night on a Friday for a work conference. The meeting room was set up and ready upon our arrival Friday Morning and all technology worked well. The coffee and tea service that we requested was perfect. The staff ensured that the station was well stocked and refilled throughout the day. We had dinner in the dining room and it was excellent. From the food to the service-everything was stellar! We regrouped in the bar after dinner and enjoyed the live entertainment and quick efficient bar service. Our rooms were ready as expected and were a perfect place to retire to after dinner and drinks. The manager was onsite and ensured we were comfortable. We did not want for anything. Thank you for another memorable stay!

Yelp
Columbia Gorge Hotel Brunch Review A group of 11 of friends travelled from Hillsboro to enjoy a Sunday brunch in the gorge. We were excited to see each other and experience this famous brunch. I arrived early so I ventured to the bar with some other friends to sip on Bloody Marys whole waiting for the others to arrive. The woman that made our drinks was clearly not the regular bartender - she made a decent Bloody - when the regular bartender, he had bacon! A key garnish for Bloody Marys! The scene at the bar was a bit comical as the bartender opened a bottle of champagne with much fanfare and a few minutes later, dropped one of the drinks he was in the process of making We were seated and were greeted with biscuits upon which our waitress "drizzled" a waterfall of honey. Impressive! Shortly after that she brought us a three-tier stand full of fruits cheeses and pastries. Yummy!! I ordered the prime rib and other than the prime rib and the rest of my food was not worth the calories. The potato's were bland and the popovers were soggy. There was in-house bickering between our servers and the bartender. We get that work can be stressful. We all have jobs and we came here to enjoy brunch with each other's company I'd be hard pressed to make the drive again for subpar food and restaurant staff drama. This hotel has stunning views and gorgeous gardens. Enjoy the view with a mimosa!

Yelp
Where to start. We booked through Expedia, after having done that in the past, for our sister's wedding night after having a fun family wedding in Hood River. We called the day before to confirm the reservation and were assured all was good to go. My sister and her husband showed up IN THEIR WEDDING CLOTHES after their reception and were turned away after being told they oversold the hotel and there were no rooms left. Funny how they didn't forget to charge our credit card. Can you imagine having a reservation only to be turned away on your wedding night? Basically they shrugged their shoulders and send them on their way. This poor customer service was in further display when we called the hotel in the days that followed, in an effort to figure out what happened. The employee, Chris, was rude and condescending. No effort was made to make things right, let alone apologize. Talking with him was a train wreck. Basically they tried to say that if we had booked directly with them, as opposed to using a third-party vendor, this wouldn't have happened, ignoring the fact that we had called to confirm the reservation only the day before. It's very clear there's a management problem and a customer service problem at this facility. It's unfortunate because the hotel is beautiful, but all the beauty can't overcome the inadequacies in the service and the reality that you may show up at the facility and not have a room despite having a reservation. There are plenty of other excellent options in Hood River, steer clear!

Ellen S.

Yelp
Didn't stay at the hotel, but being a huge Grimm fan, came to see the spectacular view and walk the grounds. It's wonderfully well kept, cute seating areas (swinging bench, chairs overlooking the river, etc), beautiful gardens, etc. With COVID protocols, not sure if you could order drinks and sit out on the balcony to spend a leisurely afternoon overlooking the river and breathing in the fresh air. Very peaceful and serene.

Yelp
We booked this hotel through secret hotel deal on Hotwire. We were extremely happy with the price. We arrived Wednesday around 6 after our hike. The front desk agent working at that time was extremely patient and kind. She took us up to our room. We were pleased with our room and its cleanliness. The room comes with the basic amenities but my favorite part was the robes in the closet. We took showers then headed out for dinner. After dinner and drinks we caught last call at the hotel bar around 940. The bartenders working were extremely friendly. There was a young newer man and very personable lady working with him. They were fun and very entertaining. After we were done we went to bed. I slept okay... It got a bit hot in the room. As we were leaving the staff did not say bye even though there was three of them. We put our bags in our car and took a walk around the beautiful gardens. Props to the host in the restaurant this morning he got me a cup of hot water and tea. Really made my morning. The hotel is older and a bit outdated but it has a charm about it and is really beautiful. If you are looking for a modern holoday Inn then just don't book it!

Yelp
Oh, to live in luxury such as this! I booked this hotel as the last stop on a 2000-mile, 11 state road trip from Ohio to Oregon and was looking for something luxurious and relaxing and boy did they deliver. This hotel has been in operation for 100 years and once played host to Hollywood stars like Rudolph Valentino and Clara Bow. It manages to pair the luxury of the 1920s with modern conveniences. This place may be 100 years old, but their commitment to excellent customer service and guest experience hasn't waned in the slightest. From the moment we walked through the door, we felt like both honored guests and old friends. It was an amazing experience and the perfect chance to relax after almost 2000 miles of driving. In addition to staying at the hotel, we also chose to have dinner in the Valentino Lounge and the cocktails and food, while a little pricey, were excellent. If you need a weekend away from the world, or even just a night to get away from everything, come here, stay, relax, lose yourself in the breathtaking views of the Columbia River, the beautiful gardens or the charming little waterfall. We had an amazing stay at a reasonable price and would highly recommend it!

Ian T.

Yelp
Summary: So bad that after being there for an hour I ended up paying the full night's fee and leaving without another place booked. --- When I showed up at 12:30 I was told to return after 2:30 even though on the Sunday after Thanksgiving the place seemed deserted. Ok. Fine. I shouldn't have returned; I should have known better. Once checked in I was told that the elevator required an employee to operate. While quaint, this was going to be an obvious inconvenience, but fine. Once we got off on the third floor I realized that the whole place smelled so strongly of cleaning products that the only reasonable assumption was that they are hiding an awful, musty smell emanating from an interior that hadn't been updated painted or re-carpeted in DECADES. I found my corner "river view" room and immediately saw that it was cramped, had no desk and very few outlets. Also, most of the river view was obstructed by a tree (see photo). Everything was simply old, not "historic." To their credit, the bathroom had seen updates and was the one clean "historic" space that I found in the building. While there is a spa on the premises there was nothing spa-like and relaxing about the place, for me at least. After realizing I didn't want to spend the week there, and knowing that there was nothing the staff could do to improve the experience for me, I phoned the front desk and told them "I checked in less than an hour ago and but I need to leave. What is your refund policy?" They told me it was the full night's fee ($180). I inquired if they could make it half a night's charge as I'd been there less than an hour (it was 4pm) and the room was still in pristine/cleaned condition. They checked with the manager, phoned me back, and told me "no, we checked with managment." Yes, I was avoiding confrontation and didn't want to say "this is the opposite of what I had in mind, I hate your hotel and I just want to leave" because what could they do? They cannot build a new hotel. Why confront? But instead of taking what I thought was a fair offer - $90, half a night's fee - for one hour of me charging me phone and sitting on a chair in the room, they insisted on the full night's fare. ***So, I paid a full night's fare ($180) and left because that's how much I disliked the place. All while knowing I would halve to pay a full night's fare somewhere else!*** I wouldn't have left any review for them, I would have written it off as a difference of "taste" and expectations, except the quality of service and reasonableness matches how I felt about the facilities themselves. I hope the $180, $90 of which was my breaking point, is worth 1-star reviews on here/Expedia/Google. I'm sure that extra $90 is worth having a public review indicating somebody disliked their facilities so much that they just flushed $180 and walked away. I am now at an AirBnB that I booked last minute and I couldn't be happier with deciding to not throw good money after bad. Half a river view was not worth having to stay there.

Yelp
The service here is non-existent! From the front desk barely manned, to horrible housekeeping to inedible food. I don't ask for much in a hotel even an expensive one. Ask for more towels...since they gave you 2? Come get some is their response and it takes two hours to find someone. Come back late in the evening to find your room key won't work? Wait an hour ...find a waiter to find someone...hotel voicemail is full..woman comes and says complain to someone who should be working right now ...I should not be. Get new keys only to find the door was broken all day ..no one made up the room or fixed it. Expect the room to be clean or even used glasses replaced? Forget it ..just new towels and a made bed. Breakfast ? Wait a half an hour for service for the waitress to say she overslept . Inedible eggs and when you apologetically send them back ...she says Yea, they are pretty bad. 41.00 for a horrible two person light breakfast . 38.00 and a hour wait for cocktails in the evening...sorry didn't see you after passing by 10 times. Try and check out? No desk person for an hour and no one to man the elevator to load your luggage . Finally shows up after carrying luggage down three flights of stairs. The response sorry...that really sucks! Send an email to them to discuss ? No response ! The location is beautiful...river. Ire rooms have a very small window...don't bother upgrading.

Yelp
Kind of disappointed. Brought my mom here for her 70th birthday. The grounds, settings and view are awesome, instead of a cool historic building I found it to be more run down (sort of)- my room was so so tiny for the 200 per night cost. Couldn't find a table to play games and found the staff to be less that happy in general and not super accommodating. We asked to play a game at a restaurant table but they wouldn't let us. We are literally the only people in the building. I'm not joking, it's as if they are closed and we are intruders instead of patrons. I honestly won't come back. I usually stay at the best western that we love but wanted to try something different. Drinks were good in the bar, we will try dinner later.

Yelp
October 15-16 2018. Always a treat to stay at Columbia Gorge Hotel except for this visit. My husband's company was having a business conference @ the hotel. They spend several thousand dollars in the 2 1/2 day meeting. Down side this visit. I called hotel while in route did not identify myself, to see if we could check in at 2pm 1 hour early. The young gal (not sure of her name now) said no check in's till 4 today. They were having plumbing issues a main line out in front of hotel had busted. They had a company working on it. We stopped to eat instead of going to hotel. We arrived to hotel @ 3:50 went to check in. Our thought was check in get our luggage and head to our room. By time we had luggage & arrive @ room it would be past 4pm. The plumbing company crews were packing their 4 trucks to leave when we pulled in. The same person I'd talked to on phone told us very rudely check in wasn't until 4 today & showed us sign on counter. Not sure why we were getting so much attitude. She was very unpleasant. The 2nd desk clerk said go ahead & check them in. My husband asked if we could get late (2pm) check out as he meeting wasn't out until 4. The gal said she could only give us till noon - 1 hour. They told us to open sink & tub valves for 5 minutes, and flush toilet several times to clear the lines of air. Second flush toilet filled with excrement & toilet paper. It was disgusting & the smell filled our whole room. My husband called front desk, they sent the maintenance man up. He said they expected to get many calls with this problem due to the plumbing problems. He plunged & flushed multiple times before it flushed clean. I asked if they had any spray we could use. They did not. The waste was gone but the smell stayed. I had a few Clorox wipes with me and wiped bathroom & toilet down. Also had lavender essential oil I put some on tissues in bathroom & around bedroom. Didn't help much so we had to leave room for a while. The following morning 2 different housekeeping people knocked on the door when I was getting ready & packing 1st one @ 10am 2nd one @ 10:40am. I told we had gotten a noon check out. They both said it wasn't noted on their list. Then I got 3 phone calls; 1st lead housekeeping then 2 from front desk. The last call from front desk was @ 11:50am I asked her to send bellhop up. She stated there was no bellhop on duty that day. I told her my husband wasn't able to leave his meeting to come up & help me with luggage. She said she would come up & help. It was the young gal who had given us attitude when we checked in. She brought the luggage cart helped me load it then took me down in elevator. I asked her to leave the luggage cart by front desk while I got our truck pulled up to door. When I drove truck up the luggage cart was sitting outside & she was not with it. Fortunately all of our bags were there. I went downtown to shop & came back to pick my husband up. To my surprise when I came back the bell hop was @ front door. I told him the desk stated there was no bellhop on duty that day. He wasn't sure why she would have told me that. You would think they would be more pleasant & accommodating. The desk clerk should work like she's the owner & it's her business & have a great attitude. Not like an unhappy rude employee. It was not a relaxing morning with all the knocking on door & calls about checking out @ 11. I was out of room by noon. We've always felt it was a treat & enjoyed our visits & stops for brunch or dinner. Our room had a beautiful river view. The bellhop was a very pleasant young man.

Yelp
We didn't end up staying here, not sure why. I know it was one of the places my guy was going to call as I was driving. We had work to do in Town, so left a day early, and decided he would call on the way up. This happened to be next door to us. What a breathtaking view from all around. The grounds are very well kept, and the stream that goes through to the waterfall is just beautiful, and makes a relaxing walk. The garden flowers are a delight, and quite impressive. I am 50/50 on wanting to stay here. It is a beautiful place. I just hear the place is haunted. Ghosts tend to love to show themselves to me, but not my guy. I don't think he so much believes. I would be afraid if I stayed, one would spook me. Had that happen at the Shanghai tunnels at one of the bars in Portland. Something grabbed the back of my shirt, but nothing was there. I think I may still give this place a go, just because of how beautiful it is, and the history of it is pretty cool. I also wanted to eat at the restaurant, but we didn't stay in town long enough. Hopefully we will make more trips up so we will have to stay another night or so. I would love to add another star.

Yelp
Had the worst fish and chips ever at the Columbia Gorge Hotel. It looked like the batter was pancake batter and not fish batter. You had to peel the bread off to get to the little chunk of rockfish. and it looked like it was air fried. The chips were undercooked and cold.

Yelp
The walls are paper thin, there's a guy singing so loud on the first floor every night from about 6-10 pm and even on the floor above you have to turn you tv volume up to max to hear over his singing, and it actually vibrates through so that our floor was shaking from his loud speaker. The hotel made excuses for poor service on room service bc of a wedding party they were too busy dealing with. Oh and so much more......

Yelp
The Columbia Gorge Hotel is a quaint older hotel with wear and dating I consider acceptable patina for a 100 years old build (it was built in 1920). The elevator requires a bellman. If your expecting a Five Star you're you'll be disappointed but if you like buildings with history and character you'll be delighted. Chris checked us in, operated the elevator, and delivered room service, he was gracious and helpful. If you want more modern accommodations check out the Columbia Gorge Villas.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at this wonderful gem of a hotel for a birthday getaway and it was simply fantastic. From the moment you arrive you are greeted by a lush and vibrant landscaped gardens and a vintage style hotel that will immediately give you a sense of excitement as it feels like a place you would only see out of a movie. Such a great setting and location. They also have a onsite spa that offers a array of services so check out the menu and pamper yourself if you like. Upon entering you will find further immediate surprises with the lobby and front desk where you are greeted by a friendly and professional staff. One unique feature is the original elevator which the hotel staff will personally operate for you and escort you to your floor or room which is a nice touch. The rooms are a unique feature with signs of years past yet with up to date amenities to accompany your stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our room and having the ability to open the windows and view the scenery and get some fresh air in from the Columbia gorge. Rooms also have Heat and AC as well. The bathroom was also nicely set up and overall very clean and well appointed. We opted to hit the grounds after settling in and just walk the beautiful property to take in all of the scenery and familiarize ourselves with this unique hotel. The grounds are impressive as are the views of the falls and Columbia River nestled more than 200 ft. below. You will love it! We then enjoyed some live piano music in Valentino's Lounge for they happy hour and had a great glass of wine and cheese. The outdoor patio was nice and they also have several relaxing places to sit and enjoy as well as a fireplace area, We had dinner in the hotel's restaurant at Simon's Cliff House where the fabulous service and attentiveness of the staff continued and it was another great moment for us. You will find a adoring dining area as well as a separate section along the windows overlooking the gorge which makes for a nice dining experience. The food and beverage choices were more than appealing and I went for the Ribeye which was well prepared, tender and simply delicious. My wife had their amazing roasted squash salad which was also a favorite for her as well. If your staying over on a Saturday night be sure to try the Sunday Brunch. It was a superb menu of 7 courses that will definitely be enjoyed and certainly worth it. Overall, great hotel, great service and friendly staff and very clean rooms and beautiful gardens. What more could you ask for!

Yelp
What an incredible find, built in 1908 with Otis Elevators #13 car. Fantastic ballroom and lobby. We spent hours in the gardens with 100+ year old plants and it's own waterfall

Yelp
Having had 3 vacations canceled this year, my husband and I needed a break! While perusing the internet one day I came across an MSN article about haunted hotels in every state. That leads is to The Columbia Gorge Hotel. An hor and a half from our home this historic hotel is situated above the Columbia Gorge. Rich with history, I was sold!! Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Chris at the front desk. I can't say enough about him!!! Chris is what hospitality is all about! Once we got to our room (King room with a river view) we were struck by how lovely it was. The rooms are small in comparison to what most of us are used to, which makes absolutely no difference in my humble opinion. It was clean and comfortable!!! Because of covid we could only order room service, no problem after looking around the property which was equally beautiful, we were meet in the lobby by Chris and the manager Alp. Again not just Chris but Alp was also very friendly and took our dinner order right there. Back up at our room we received our dinner, fish and chips for me and the Draper chicken for my husband. Both dishes were absolutely delicious!!! For breakfast we again ordered room service, croissant breakfast sandwich for me, chicken fried steak for the husband. Again delicious!!! Next was a trip to the spa for pedicures. Martina and Marcia did not disappoint!! After a day out exploring downtown Hood River, we were told about a pizza place in town (That's a different review Solstice Pizza) we came back and Chris was at the front desk, he introduced us to Sarah. Sarah was kind enough to give us a tour of the observatory which is off limits to guests because of limited staff. Thank you Chris and Sarah that was just amazing!!!! Aside from the history, what makes this hotel worth the visit is the staff!! I can't wait to come back again!!!

Yelp
A cool old hotel in a great setting and with a view of the Columbia River. Fairly high end and nice dining room with a view and good, but fairly pricey food. Would be worth about 4-1/2 stars if they: Cleaned the mold out of the tub caulk. Had wait staff commensurate with the rest of the experience. Especially at the bar. Would let out the "view side" rooms at the reduced Winter rate, instead of stingily assigning an inland side room even though they were only servicing less than ten rooms. How does it help their bottom line to give less of a room when that better room is going unrented anyway? We are going back, and liked it, but it could easily be twice as good.

Yelp
I have stayed here several times, and have always taken visitors for lunch when we're sightseeing. I have always loved this hotel. However, a friend and I stayed in January and it was awful. Snippy, disinterested women at the desk, a cocktail waitress who was so blank she was almost robotic, mediocre food. And they have started adding a "resort" fee of $15 that they don't mention. It's a hotel, period. No pool, gym, sauna, nothing. I inquired and was told it was to keep up the grounds. Seriously? The gardener's truck alarm went off at 5:30 one morning and went, unnoticed by staff apparently, until the battery blessedly died. I am so bummed. I don't know if it's under new management, but it's just not working. I won't stay again, ever. Too many other options to pay too much for outdated rooms and horrible staff. I do want to compliment Chris. He was the only bright spot and was friendly and eager to help. The ONLY reason I gave it 3 stars is for the view and garden. Stop by, have lunch or a cocktail, wander around, but stay elsewhere!!

Yelp
I stayed here 5 years ago and I thought it was charming so really excited to come back! OMG! They remodeled and redecorated and it is HORRIBLE. Nothing like it was before. From the ugly carpets, to the "new furniture" in what was an amazing bar area to the 'new' headboards and decor in the rooms. The front desk was also a disaster trying to check in with many people waiting behind me. If I hadn't paid it all upfront I would leave. SO disappointed. It may have been a bit old and a bit creaky before....but it was charming. Now it is just ugly. Will never come back again.

Yelp
We stayed here a few years ago and again just a few weeks ago to get out of town because we love everything about this hotel. It is over a hundred years old so it will have its quirks with the building, but the grounds and service were incredible and very well maintained. We got lucky because there was a wedding that weekend and we booked it at the last minute and we got a room with a phenomenal view overlooking the river. The staff were incredible as well - we brought our dog with us and they had a cute gift ensemble that included treats, a food bowl and handkerchief that he still wears today (the dog, not my partner). I had a craving for ice cream late at night and went to the lobby with the intentions of driving to the store but decided against it because I didn't feel comfortable driving. Alpe and Chris were standing at the front desk chatting and I asked about ordering some, but the kitchen was long closed. Alpe said, "let me see what I can do" and walked away, only to come back a few minutes later with a perfect scoop of ice cream for me! While he was gone, Chris and I started talking about the venue and his eyes lit up when I asked about wedding services. He was very knowledgeable about the hotel and even gave some inside tips about when the best time of year was to have a wedding based on the flowers blooming and his experience there. It was so cute to see him get so excited about the wedding and seeing Alpe come back with my ice cream. The service here is top-notch despite the staffing shortage.

Yelp
Amazing Happy hour. Kim and i ate dinner in dining room. The steak was great along with the service. What beautiful grounds

Patty B.

Yelp
Very expensive (366 for one night with 'garden view' which means parking lot and freeway view) No amenities. Next to freeway so consider the noise factor. Very nice garden but, again, the noise. No ice, no coffee, decent bed and a fabulous shower. Not likely to stay again. You are paying for the historicalness and hopefully the high price pays for the maintenance.

Yelp
Nothing less than a masterpiece! I brought my mom and dad here today for drinks. The bar was not open (it was noon and the bar opens at 2 pm), but the fantastic concierge (a young brunette gal at the front desk across from the spa) suggested we walk the grounds and take in the view. We did just that. The view is absolutely breathtaking and a perfect place for a romantic night away, stay or a wedding. In the lobby was a giant glass decanter of water with lemon and lime. That hit the spot as we waited outside (at a table on the patio) for the bar to open. We'd have had lunch here (the restaurant was open) but we'd brought a picnic to eat at the Vista House (a state park 30 or so miles west). I am also a sucker for Spanish style homes so this place was an absolute dream for me (from the outside to the chandeliers and fire places inside). If you are any where near Hood River, I would highly recommend stopping here for the sights. If you are needing a hotel in the area, I would definitely recommend checking out the prices.

Yelp
We stayed here for my husband's 50th birthday and we were treated with such high regard from the staff! From the desk clerk all the way to "The Pianoman", everyone was so accommodating. The wait staff in the lounge was very kind and Alyssa was a great part of our stay. From her generous smile and bubbly personality, we could tell that she really enjoys her job. (We even met her mother Patricia who was willing to drive us to Downtown if we wanted!) Our room was very comfortable and hearing the falls all night as we slept was very comforting! The view was spectacular. It was our first time in the hotel but we will definitely be back again. Thank you for treating my husband so generously during his birthday and by putting his name on the board! He felt very special during our stay. Thank you!

Yelp
Amazing. Highly recommend. Like the Overlook Hotel sans the ghost, I think. Our room overlooked the Wah Gwin Gwin Falls, fittingly also known as Lullaby Falls, a 207 ft drop of a waterfall from Phelps Creek that runs through the property of the historic hotel and then plunges down into the Columbia River. I guess Shirley Temple and Burt Reynolds also stayed here? Probably not together though.

Yelp
Was very excited to stay here, came to a wedding here and it was dope but I had a terrible time there today. Got there around two and they let us check in early it was great, I was with my wife and our baby. One complaint that I had at this point was a lot of the staff that I saw was not wearing there mask properly, including the man helping me check in kept taking it off, or kept his nose out of it I never saw him wearing it correctly. After getting settled into our room we walked around the property, and it is so nice I love it. It was nice day there is a great view of the gorge and the a waterfall right by the hotel 10/10. I really am not a fan of the actual hotel though, it's just really old which I get can be appealing to some people but I was not a fan. I think more of the hotel should be updated. The room we were in was very small, I wouldn't choose to stay here again. We were laying in the bed and when I got up the bed frame broke and the corner of the mattress went down and the other end went up it was terrible. I went down to the front desk and this is when I met Chris, the best thing about this hotel, a true delight. He had someone come up to check on the bed and see what the problem was, the frame was broken so we had to switch rooms. We don't live far and it was just a quick trip so we ended up just canceling the trip and going home. Chris took care of it because he's the man we weren't charged any fees. And wore his mask properly.

Yelp
Let me start by saying, if you're looking for a modern, up to date hotel, this will more than likely not be the place for you. However, if you are in to old world charm, you should stay here, you will be pleased! My husband and I were returning from a long weekend in Central Oregon, where we stayed at the worst hotel. On our way back to Washington, we were unsure where to stay, and my husband wasn't comfortable with me booking an Airbnb. Looking through booking.com we found this place and decided "what the heck". We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is very old school, with much of its 1920's charm still visible. The elevator, while having to wait for an employee to take you up or down, was very charming! We did only use it twice, both times when we had our luggage with us. The rest of the times that we went in or out, we used the stairs. Not a big deal. The grounds are breathtaking. I was in awe the entire time we walked them. The paths through the gardens have many areas to sit and relax and just take in the scenery. The view of the river was so pretty. The waterfall, very tranquil, if you take the time at night, to just sit at one of the little tables and just listen. The ducks were such a cute addition! Our room, I just loved it. It was simple, a king bed, a small desk, two lounging chairs and a table. In the huge walk in closet is a small fridge. I think a good addition could be a microwave and in room coffee. However, it was not needed in our case, this visit. The room had so much charm, I just loved it. The bed was so comfortable! We had plenty of pillows on the bed, plus there were 2 more in the closet. The bathroom was updated, but the floor tiles kept that old world charm. In the closet were 2 plush Terry cloth robes. We didn't use them, but if we were staying another night or two, we may have. I am not sure this place would be suitable for children, as they may get bored. There is no pool or hot tub on the hotel grounds. Not sure if there is one at the place next door, I didn't ask. There is a day spa, for massages, etc. Thete is also a restaurant, which I have heard many good things about, from a friend. However, we did eat there. Perhaps next time. For all the people who had not nice things to say, I'm not sure what your expectation was. I never smelled any bad smells, nor did I encounter any rude employees. The only negative thing, was the rude 70+ yr old woman; who rudely just let the door shut after her, when my husband was right behind her with his hands full of 2 hot cups of coffee. When he called out to her, she rudely kept walking. Then when her 90+ yr old dad came down the stairs, and my husband encountered him, my husband was in a position to push the door open with his back. The kind gentleman graciously thanked my husband. No fault of the hotel, for the rudeness of the woman. Bad manners, I guess. I am looking forward to taking another long weekend trip and coming back to stay here.

Yelp
I stayed here from a Friday through Sunday, during early March. Its about an hour away from Portland. This is an old hotel- no pool/hot tub/continental breakfast. However, its beautiful outside and my room was very comfortable. Its located right off the highway and theres a walmart and shopping center located right down the street and downtown is about ten minutes away. I did travel to Portland every day, but Im glad I stayed here. I felt like I was more in nature than if I had stayed in the busier cities. Also was priced pretty decently. I think I paid around $400-something for a room with a view of the river. There was one particular male staff member (I cant recall his name- probably in his 30s, caucasian), who was super welcoming, hospitable and helpful. He gave recommendations on where to go, got me a glass of water and just went out of his way to make us feel like valued guests. I really enjoyed my stay here and would definitely return!
