The Columbia Icefield Skywalk has exactly the same concept as the famous Grand Canyon Skywalk — a glass-floored walkway extending over a canyon. However, this one is much smaller, roughly about one-third the size of the Grand Canyon version.
Even though it’s on a smaller scale, it’s extremely well maintained and very clean, which makes it a pleasant experience overall. I wouldn’t describe it as very thrilling or scary, especially if you’ve been to the Grand Canyon Skywalk before.
That said, it’s still worth visiting as part of the Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure package, especially if you’re also doing the Glacier tour on the same day. It’s a nice way to round out the experience.
We went on a Monday evening, which turned out to be perfect — there were very few people, and we practically had the entire walkway to ourselves. It gave us plenty of time to stroll slowly, enjoy the views, and take photos without feeling rushed. This was a huge contrast to my past experience at the Grand Canyon Skywalk, which was very crowded and hectic.
Ticket tip: If you buy tickets for the Skywalk alone, it’s around CAD $50 per person. However, I recommend purchasing a Pursuit Pass or a bundle that includes other attractions, which you can easily find online. If you pre-book online, you can usually get around 20% off, making it a much better deal.
