The Essential Guide to Mount Rainier National Park

"For a good waterfall hike, Neville recommends the trail to Comet Falls. This 3.8-mile round-trip hike heads to the base of the 300-foot-tall cascade, which is so named because the white spray of water resembles a comet’s tail. Located off the road to Paradise, this is an accessible hike that can often get busy, so plan to arrive early or go on an off-day." - Zoe Baillargeon Zoe Baillargeon Zoe Baillargeon is a freelance writer and creative copywriter who specializes in travel, tourism, and food journalism. Comet Falls is an absolutely incredible hike that you have to experience! The trail takes you through towering trees. As you make your way up, the sound of rushing water grows louder, building up the anticipation for the grand finale. And when you finally reach Comet Falls, prepare to be in awe. The waterfall cascades down from great heights, creating a mesmerizing display!! The mist in the air adds a refreshing touch, making it a perfect spot to cool off on a warm day. We stayed close to the waterfall and actually started to get cold from the mist! The hike itself was moderate. Many steep steps and lots of uphill walking. Don't forget to bring your camera, because the views from the top are simply breathtaking!

The trail is okay, it’s rocky, would recommend having some walking sticks because you will be going over uneven terrain and large steps. Have a hat and sun block too. When you get to the falls to be honest it is more beautiful than I expected. Have good boots, 2 liters of water, and someone to make sure you don’t go tumbling down the mountain.

Excellent little hike, trail is a little steep in places but well worth it once you reach the falls. I especially enjoyed the cooling mist from the falls as it was a exceptionally hot day the day I hiked it. I highly recommend the hike, it was very beautiful up there!

Amazing view after a beautiful hike in the woods! The hike ascends all the way up to the waterfall, but it's totally worth the effort. The roundtrip is 3.1 miles, family friendly, fun all the way!

One of the best hikes for me in WA. I’d rate it as challenging but worth it. Wear sturdy boots, bring hiking poles, and do it in late July through September on a sunny day. Try and make it just beyond the maintained trail and you’ll be rewarded with stunning beauty. Plan for 4-5 hours round trip.

As of June 20th, 2021- The bridge to get to Comet Falls has been washed out. But there two logs that have been placed that you can walk on to get across. Even someone as unbalanced as me had no issues crossing so don’t worry too much. Of course cross at your own risk. Even if you fall - the water at the crossing area is shallow. I have uploaded a video of the crossing to give you a better idea of what the crossing is like. Have a wonderful hike! :)
