Some places ooze that casual, inviting afternoon stop-off look. The Comfort at Whidbey Winery is such a place. Overlooking the Puget Sound from the quiet of the countryside, this is a family-run winery, bed-and-breakfast, and farm, on the south end of Whidbey Island.
We stopped in with a group for an afternoon lunch. The pictures with captions below say it all. This place is a fast-casual eatery in the Whidbey Island countryside with extras -- a Nosh spot, and a Bread and Breakfast.
Carl and Rita Comfort bought this 22-acre farm in 2006 and converted an existing building into their winery and tasting room in 2009. In 2016 they finished their new tasting room, winery, bed-and-breakfast in the event space.
With close to 6000 grapevines planted in the Estate Vineyard, most of the year is dedicated to pruning and nurturing the plants to ensure the best quality grapes. Vines include Siegerrebe, Madeline Angevine, Madeline Sylvan and, Pinot Noir.
Carl will tell you he spent a lot of time living overseas drinking red wines. When he bought this farm, it came with white wine vines. So, he tries to make white wines that a red wine drinker would drink. Taste is always the best indicator of success, and Carl and Rita have hit the jackpot.
If you like white wines, put this place on your must-visit list! It's another great example of Culinary Tourism in the Camano-Whidbey Islands in Washington State.
