If you're traveling to Tokyo and have any interest in fashion, you might want to visit the Comme des Garçons flagship in Aoyama. It's a beautiful store, strikingly designed and full of eye-catching clothes and accessories. Even if you buy nothing, it's a worthwhile visit, almost like a trip to a small art gallery exhibiting the work of the designers behind this world-famous label.
I had actually picked up a pair of CDG Play x Converse shoes at Ginza Mitsukoshi earlier in the day but was still curious enough to check out the flagship store. Interestingly, it didn't carry the Converse line, but it had a giant selection of other CDG goodies, which otherwise seem kind of hard to track down. I tried on a pretty spectacular coat that I just wanted to see again online, and I absolutely cannot find it.
The coat was expensive, incidentally, but I might have bought it if it weren't also a little bit cuckoo for cocoa puffs. CDG's clothes are fascinating and well constructed, but I would not describe them as particularly wearable. Part of the fun of the visit was seeing all the salespeople dressed in head-to-toe CDG, gorgeous circus clothing, most of it black, that must look wild out of context (the context being the runway or a CDG store).
I don't mind admitting that I'm too basic for CDG (though if you're also basic, there is plenty of CDG Play merchandise at this store). I didn't end up buying anything, but I'm definitely glad I stopped by.
