We had an incredible experience at commune. The style of the hotel is very enjoyable for families. We stayed in the Forrest house number 3 and there were 2 floors with a spacious living room as well as 3 bedrooms with very comfortable and clean accommodations. Our concierge, Yang Xue, was very attentive to our requests and stayed in constant communication. One morning we needed breakfast before the restaurant was scheduled to open and she accommodated us by packing a to-go bag of pastries and soy milk so we could head out on our tour. The location is also incredibly convenient with Badaling Great Wall only 15 min away and all other area attractions within a 40 min car ride. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to take some extra time to explore the Great Wall as well as a relaxing retreat type stay. 5/5!

Highly recommended! We booked 3 rooms and were put into a forest house villa. The villa is huge, clean, and the heater/air-conditioning working perfectly. There was even floor heating in the living room. We booked dinner on the first night at their in-house restaurant and it was perfect. They took their initiative to make a bowl of noodles for my sons birthday (Chinese tradition). They have an in-house shuttle that would take you to shi guan great wall (5mins drive) but it requires you to wait a bit. Alternatively it's a 15-20min walk to the hotel. Perfect service from oliver and Eva (and everyone else in the hotel including the lovely drivers). Highly recommended! I think the only thing that will make the experience even more superb is if the private access to the great wall reopens, or if they could incorporate a architectural drive-around tour of the gorgeous villas there.

Stayed 2 nights at the Commune by the Great Wall, an Unbound Collection by Hyatt.||The resort is spread over a big acres of land within the Shuiguan area, also a short proximity to the renowned Badaling Great Wall.||You have to reach there by car or by DiDi as there is no public transport to reach Commune. This is a resort for those who wishes to spend quality time, to seek refuge and to relax. ||The resort was designed by 12 individual renowned architects, each reflects their own taste and styles, clearly demonstrated in the Communal Home you are staying. ||Each Communal Home consists of 5-6 rooms where you share common spaces such as Living, Dining, Kitchen and Courtyard with other fellow travellers. You will still have your own room and private bathroom similar to any other hotels or resorts. With the Communal Home, you can access to these public area / communal area where often it is under utilised which is great for us.||The room is immaculately adorned with the furniture styles of the Communal Home you have selected. There are Cantilever House (Red House), Terrace House, Suitcase House, Bamboo Wall, Forest House etc.||My Bamboo Wall room is a little small in my opinion. The bedding is on a Tatami Platform. Bathroom is too big and it takes up too much space for the bedroom. There are limited spaces for the suitcase as we travel from afar. There is also no hook for clothing in the bathroom, no hook for the hand towel which is quite strange given that it is quite luxurious.||We bought the package which includes daily breakfast for 2 with Shuiguan Great Wall Ticket and a High Tea. ||There is an outdoor swimming pool within the hotel and a gym. The pool is only open for 3 months during the summer months, not sure why the restrictions even though it is not a heated pool. During my visit, day time was hot and the air temperature is around 26-28 degrees. Though the water temperature maybe way cooler, but if tge pool is opened, we will probably take a dip.||The breakfast is either a la carte or buffet depending on the hotel's occupancy rate. We had the lunch and dinner at the hotel as well and the food is very good though it is on the pricey side.||To move around the resort, you will either walk (depending on the location of your accommodation), it can be far away from the restaurant or the reception. You can call them for a car pick up.||The driver 小宋 is a great asset to the property, so as our Housekeeper 小李(李鸿建), he was very attentive ad observatory. He saw we have many medicine and supplements in the room and he gave us extra water and left us a note. Great initiative!||In short, it is a very memorable stay and a very good hideaway.||

Exceptional Stay at Commune by the Great Wall on 31 May 2025Our recent stay at Commune by the Great Wall was a truly memorable experience. The setting, nestled amidst the serene hills of Badaling, offered a unique blend of nature, architecture, and tranquility.Special thanks to Ms. Lee at the front desk for her outstanding professionalism. She was incredibly attentive and helpful, providing us with clear and thoughtful guidance on local transportation options and nearby points of interest. Her prompt assistance made our arrival and navigation around the area much smoother. We would also like to express our appreciation to the lady officer at the restaurant (unfortunately we didn’t get her name), who took our dinner order with such warmth and attentiveness. Wearing glasses, she kindly offered us a dumpling in honour of the Duan Wu Jie (Dragon Boat Festival), adding a thoughtful cultural touch to our meal and making us feel especially welcome.Breakfast the next morning was also a highlight: plentiful, varied, and served in a warm setting that made for a wonderful start to the day.Overall, the service was impeccable, the surroundings breathtaking, and the attention to detail: from staff to dining, made our stay exceptional. We look forward to returning and highly recommend this unique retreat to others.Best,Lionel Neo and family

Stayed here as a break with our 3-year old daughter. Very good quality rooms, good service. Beautiful surrounding. Sadly - although 30C during the day - pool didn’t open yet. Although there is something for kids, it misses a basic playground which could. Over the weekend many young parents and kids. Some percs are included.

We stayed at this hotel with our whole family and friends to celebrate my birthday, and we had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent and very responsive. We asked for packed breakfasts to take on an early morning hike before breakfast time, and they gladly prepared them for us — a very thoughtful touch. The food overall was delicious, and the price for our villa stay was quite reasonable.Li, the hotel staff member who looked after us, was especially attentive and responded to all our requests quickly. The children’s area is great, with plenty to do, especially for kids over 3 or 4 years old, though there were still activities for younger children as well. The kids’ pool was nice, though we didn’t get a chance to try the adult pool. One downside was that the photographer included in our package wasn’t available during our stay — perhaps due to the holiday season — which was disappointing. In future, we would definitely book this service in advance. While booking, we also requested early check-in and late check-out since we were traveling with small children who needed a nap. Although the early check-in at 12 wasn’t possible, we appreciated that our room was ready at 1 instead of the usual 3 pm, which was very helpful.Overall, everything was very clean and new. We were very happy with our stay and would definitely come back!

Nica hotel in a great location - but there is a BID but for foreigners - almost nobody of the main hotel staff (reception, lobby bar, restaurant etc.) speaks more the VERY basic english. The minute you have a bit more complex problem, your are lost without smartphone translation support. This of course worksm but is tedious. ||The food choices at breakfast a good, but also somewhat limited for a 5* hotel. And again - communication is an issue, when can not even ask for the food you want.||Another limitation was the fact, that the pool was closed with a smallest drop of rain (why - at 30C this is warm rain and I do not really care about rain, when I want to swim. ANd there is no Gym (at least I could not find one and this was already my 2nd stay in this hotel). ||On the plus side: Rooms a nice and big, everything was clean and well maintained.
