We had a delightful afternoon tour of the house and exploration of the gardens on a rainy weekend afternoon. The volunteer staff are incredibly knowledgeable and generous. The cafe in the old stables is very charming and deserves a visit. You need to book for a tour through the national trust. Becoming a member is good value and recommended.

A wonderful historic home. The grounds are free but you can only see the house as part of a guided tour. The tour of the house is well worth doing. Trish was an interesting guide with an excellent knowledge of the history of the house. Almost all furnishings are original - acquired by the National Trust along with the house. If only the walls could talk - such an interesting and opulent history in its heyday. Thoroughly enjoyable.

🏛️ Como House, Melbourne – A Bit of a Letdown This Time We visited Como House on a Tuesday, hoping to explore its historic interiors and beautiful grounds. Unfortunately, the house itself wasn’t open for viewing, which was disappointing as that had been a highlight we were looking forward to. The entrance we found into the property felt a little neglected—likely impacted by the high winds the day before—but it did set a slightly underwhelming tone. The exterior of the house looked tired and could really benefit from a freshen-up to match its heritage charm. On the upside, the café was open and provided a cosy refuge from the cool weather. It was lovely to warm up and regroup there. We wandered through parts of the garden, which had potential but didn’t quite deliver the wow factor on this occasion. Overall, our visit felt underwhelming, though we acknowledge this may not always be the case. With a bit of upkeep and clearer access, Como House could easily shine as the elegant destination it’s known to be.

Absolutely brilliant, tours are well worth it - National Trust do a fantastic job and so knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

If you just want to take a walk around, I think you don’t need to buy a ticket. Tickets are only required if you want to visit inside the house. Overall, the place is very well maintained. While I was there, I could easily imagine how the nobles used to live — the beautiful surroundings really made it easy to get lost in such wonderful daydreams.

Whether you're on a fascinating guided tour, attending a lively community event, or simply stealing a quiet moment on the lawn, the experience is consistently enriched by the passionate staff. It's a rare place where history feels not just preserved, but genuinely alive. A must-visit.

Outstanding place. It is well worth having a guided tour. The NT vollies are knowledgeable and do a wonderful job. The house has an amazing history of families who have lived there. There's toilets but no cafe, and you can visit the gardens for free

Lovely Victorian era home set in pretty gardens. Got in for free on reciprocal arrangements with my English National Trust membership. Booked timed house tour on arrival, then explored the garden and enjoyed lunch at the excellent cafe whilst waiting for the informative house tour. Property can be reached by a pleasant hour's walk along the banks of the Yarra River from Melbourne's CBD, avoiding the complexities of the MYKI public transport system.
