On the Grid : Companhia Portugueza do Cha

"*Companhia Portugueza do Chá* is a store dedicated not only to the sale of the finest teas but also to the knowledge about this ancient ritual. Despite the strong Portuguese connection to the Orient and the historical production and consumption of tea, this shop is one of the only spaces in Lisbon dedicated exclusively to tea. Beautiful teapots and artefacts stand carefully in the restored old wooden furniture. The atmosphere is warm, full of charm. From the list of teas, one can find Darjeeling, Yunnan, Rwanda, Vietnam from over a hundred references available. With the idea of recovering the Portuguese tradition, *Companhia Portugueza do Chá* has created its own blend - the Lisbon Breakfast - a blend from Azores and Ceylon. It is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m." - Rés-do-Chão

If you can imagine a flavor of tea you want, they have it! This shop is such a vibe; an aromatic tea apothecary with the sweetest, most helpful staff ever!!! I would visit it every week if I didn’t live out of the country💜

I visited Companhia Portuguesa do Chá last year and had the pleasure of talk with Sebastian, always eager to share his knowledge, tea stories, and guide through their incredible selection of teas and tea infusions. This year, I returned with the intention to buy. The service remains excellent, the space is beautiful and inviting, beauty tea accessories pieces and of course the teas and infusions are absolutely wonderful. A truly special place for any tea lover.

The teas are good, but the service is not friendly at all. Some lady did not even make an effort to share price information although I asked various times. She was more interested to talk to another employee than to do her work. Unfortunately this is the only place of good teas, but I will start looking for other options.

Big tea shop with bunch of options to buy a good tea. Nice overall experience with service and products. We have bought matcha bowl and few Chinese teas , and really enjoyed the taste. Will come again to choose more teas

The lady who assisted me patiently answered my questions about the various teas and let me have a sniff of a few of the teas too - thank you! Great variety of black, green and caffeine-free teas - definitely worth a visit if you're a fellow tea lover. :)

World-Class Tea Shop with affordable prices, friendly staff, and great atmosphere. I bought plenty as a tea lover, but you can easily get a weeks worth of tea for the price of a single tea in a cafe - much better quality as well! The atmosphere in the shop is sophisticated and beautiful. Somewhere I could easily spend hours in. You step off the busy street into a peaceful wonderland filled with amazing smells. With the wide selection of teas, it’s easy to spend some time in here. They offer their own brand of tea along with the others, featuring Portugal-grown teas which will make for wonderful gifts for family and friends. . . assuming I don’t drink them first. They also feature first flush Darjeeling which is the first picking from Single-Estate plantations. This is said to be the “champagnes of teas” and has a very different quality than the later pickings in the season. As their selection can be overwhelming, the friendly and very knowledgeable staff even offers help with suggestions by what kind of teas you like. Absolutely a must visit if you like tea

Yelp
Simply fabulous. Generous hospitable service, fragrant and peaceful perfectly lighted room, beautiful fixtures, stunningly low prices. Also gave me a little lagniappe. They will have real African tea from Rwanda (beyond the actually-not-tea rooibios which they do also carry). They also have rare, non-herbal Portuguese teas. And teas from India, Nepal, China, Russia, and more. I'm hooked.

Yelp
based on solo on the service for the review. I gave it 2 and half stars. I love tea and I had been to many tea places (speciality and non specialty). I wanted to give some local teas as a gift. After researching, this place showed up. After walking about 20 minutes up and down steep uphill and downhill from where I was.. I was there finally. I had a high expectations. There was no greeting when I walked in. There are no sample teas at the counter that you can smell. There are in the huge tins and I don't know if I can open and start smelling them. Those tins are behind the package teas. So I don't know if they are ok with customers start opening the teas to smell it. As far as I know there are no sample teas to taste either. I did noticed at least an older man was available when I was at the other side of the store but he didn't seems like I could ask for assistance or wanted to help me pick some teas. I came back to the other side and I asked for help to this woman who seems like maybe available to help if she can recommend anything that is local. Her response was that will be long answer and I got customer. Okkk. There are definitely staffs available. She might have signal another man behind the counter standing near her. He came to see what I wanted. What annoyed me is after he opened the tins for me to smell the teas, I set aside the one that I wanted to buy just based on the smell. As soon as I did that, he started putting back those package teas back again. Don't be paranoid! If the customer take the selective package teas from the counter and set them aside again right next to the counter that means, they wanted to make a purchase. If they don't then you can easily put it back. I am not sure what is his issues was. I got better customer service from the random pharmacy store out in Zurich that happens to have unique blend of teas in the store. After I finally picked out some teas, I lined up behind the customer at the front paying. It seems like there was only one register but there was another register behind some wooden frame and it is hard to tell. The man that helped me didn't say anything to me and after awhile he finally said I was waiting for you. I am not standing behind the customer at the front back staring at it for no reason. If you want to ring my order up, you could have easily tell me. I can't read your mind. The tea prices aren't cheap either. Small package is 5 euro and the mid sizes are about 7.50 depend on the blend. I wanted to ask if they sell coffee but I figured I rather take my money to somewhere that treat customer better. They do know how to speak English but I think you would get treated better if you speak Portuguese.
