Getting a reservation was not easy, but we had a lovely experience. For the night of our reservation, the main entree was the Beef Wellington. Each item was prepared to perfection and full of great flavor. We opted for the wine pairing and I found that to be worth it, they were all delicious. A shout out to the staff, they provided us with great service from the beginning until the end.

Google
I am not too sure about the price & whether it is justifiable for the island or not.. but I was underwhelmed with the overall service, atmosphere, and plating. The food was rich with lots of butter & it takes away some of the other flavors that you want to taste with the courses. If you tend to eat somewhat “lighter” you may end up leaving the restaurant with a really full & heavy feeling stomach. The popovers are a staple here, but slightly unjustifiable to be listed as one of the courses. I do think that there should be maybe 1 other small/pallet cleansing course included. As a collective group.. we would not come back for another meal not because the of the food, but just because we’ve had better dining experiences on the island. With wine pairings/alcohol $150-$200+ per person.

Wonderful time spent here, courses are perfectly balanced regarding taste, and for the full experience of this extraordinary meal, wine pairings were an absolutely marvelous match! Music, atmosphere, service was delightful! Chef‘s are nice, they came and checked upon us, if we liked everything, and this night was truly one of a kind! ✨

Didn’t live up to the hype and at $150+ per person not worth it. Fried chicken, popover, cupcake were great. The salad and sides and SERVICE were on par with a school cafeteria. Soooo disappointed.

Went for brunch and it was amazing. Bloody Mary’s, chicken and waffles.. out of this world!!!

What a transporting evening of superbly prepared food, attentive service and the old-world charm of Nantucket. Many stars to choose from when picking a dinner spot on the island; so happy to see Company of the Cauldron is still shining among the brightest.

Google
Absolutely the best restaurant I've had on the island amazing service drinks don't go empty wine pairings are spot on and chefs kenny and joe run a beautiful and well orchestrated kitchen that is something to be admired

One of the best meals I have ever had. The beef wellington was prepared to perfection and melted in the mouth and the creme brulee was delightful. The selection of wine paired perfectly with the meal. A memorable experience all around.

Yelp
I thought the food was great, but pretty much everything else seemed to have a question mark. Each course came out a half hour after the last, and sometimes that seemed far too long. You end up drinking too much very costly wine (400% markup). The biggest issue for me was probably the noise level. I think I had to tell my wife "I can't hear you" maybe 20 or 30 times. Butterscotch pudding for dessert seems very questionable, and I wish they had offered an alternative. They even had a problem with their internet, and couldn't process my card for a while. At this price point (~$250 pp) I expect a flawless dinner, so we were both disappointed. We have been coming here for 25 years, but doubt we will be back.

Dianne S.

Yelp
Aside from the very expensive meal ($385 for two) which certainly was not worth the price tag, they added on their own additional tip. The bill with the tip came to $425 and when we received our credit card statement they added on an additional tip of $13.60. We disputed this unauthorized addition. So I guess they think $425 is not enough for an average meal.

Yelp
The night of September 1st, 2021 brought remnants of former Hurricane Ida across our path. Despite having made September 2nd dinner reservations for the Company of the Cauldron weeks in advance, the storm-related cancellations of all ferries to Nantucket from New Bedford made our trip improbable at best. Fortunately, ferries did start running from Hyannis that afternoon, so our precious reservation for our anniversary dinner was saved. How fortunate for us! The Company of the Cauldron has been our favorite Nantucket special occasion restaurant for the better part of a decade. The atmosphere is established as you enter the cozy dining room finished with touches from Italy, where the original dining club with this name was established in Florence in the early 1500's. Here you are invited to join a large gathering of your newfound friends, ably hosted by the restaurant staff including Jordana, the sommelier, and the chefs led by Executive Chef Joseph Keller. There is one 7:00 p.m. seating for the dinner and everyone is served the same sequence of courses as the evening memorably progresses. We were seated at a lovely table where the table covering celebrated with us by proclaiming "Happy Anniversary!" Our prix fixe meal began with Popovers with Vermont butter followed by Bartlett's Summer Garden Heirloom Tomato Salad with a citrus vinaigrette. The main course was the spectacular Beef Wellington with wagyu beef from Snake River Farms in Loomis, Washington, melt in your mouth tender and able to be sliced with a fork. The accompanying wine was a rich and multifaceted Hourglass Cabernet sauvignon. With the entree came Bartlett Farm summer farm vegetables including sautéed field-grown carrots, Brussels sprouts, and mushrooms. We enjoyed celebratory champagne with our dessert, crème brûlée with a shortbread cookie. Each course was at the same impossibly high standard as the course preceding it and the following course would be. This was an auspicious start for a wonderful 39th anniversary weekend. The evening's experience was immeasurably enhanced by the attentive and friendly service, making it seem to be a warm family meal (the likes of which few families ever enjoy together, unfortunately). We had the opportunity to taste Chef Joseph's mastery twice more on this trip by sharing two take-out meals: the Snake River Farms Kurobuta pork spare rib dinner (with "Big Daddies BBQ Sauce", warm potato salad, cole slaw, biscuit, and strawberry shortcake), and the fried chicken dinner (with warm potato salad, cole slaw, biscuit, and strawberry shortcake), also delectable chocolate chip cookies. How spoiled we were! We cannot wait to return next year to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary!

Yelp
An elegant historical building turned into a fine dining experience. The candlelight transports you to another time. Each night the chef's prefix menu changes. There is an excellent vegetarian option of vegetable lasagna. Popovers are not to be missed. I especially enjoy speaking to the chef at the end of the sitting. My second time and I plan to visit every time I'm on Nantucket.

Yelp
This is one of the biggest wastes of money you can spend on island. Have been a few times now, each time hoping for a different result. It's always the same - overpriced (I'm not posting this because of the price - I knew and accepted going into this meal that it was going to be $500+), mediocre food (potentially even below average), average to poor service, great ambiance. Tonight's meal was Beef Wellington. We ordered a bottle of red wine and were served a different bottle. We asked our server if we could get the bottle we ordered. He never came back. The restaurant is like 1,000 sq ft which was extremely awkward. Luckily someone else eventually helped us (she was great) and we got a new bottle of wine 45 minutes into sitting down. Next the salad. Heavy, heavy dressing. Good dressing but the lettuce was extremely soggy. Good flavor on the tomatoes. Everything else was a throw away. Then the beef. One came medium plus and one came extra well done. No one asked us at the outset how we wanted our steak cooked since it was pre fixe beef Wellington. I guess we were expecting medium rare. If really well done filet is your thing then this is for you. The pate was flavorless - like actually couldn't taste anything. The puff pastry shell was fine. Nothing terrible but also not good. Finally the dessert. Really nice flavor on the lemon custard part of the lemon tart. The pastry shell was legit bad. No flavor, sawdust consistency. Lastly, if you are the chef don't come around to awkwardly talk to every table after you just gouged them on their meal. Respectfully, the food stinks. In a vacuum, this would have been a bad dinner. The fact that the meal was $550+ sealed the deal that we will absolutely never come back and tell everyone we know to avoid at all costs. This is a real review. I have no vendetta against the restaurant. I wish them well. Hope this helps save someone else from wasting their time and money.

Yelp
So disappointed! Not in the food or service but the management and back office which ruined the whole experience. Five days after we were in Nantucket we were called about the transaction not going through. First it was just the tip from a call from the server from a phone number not MA. Then we spoke to a male manager whom told me it was the entire amount. Then two more calls from the server in which I gave my CC to have the tip put into it. Three days later nothing showed on my card and I got mucous. Since I have spoke to Lynn who was lovely but yet still not a single call back regarding what the heck is going on. If there was an issue a manager should be call not the staff. We don't want the server to work for free but something so simple is being ignored by their management and we will never eat there again. Lynn also told me the manager I spoke to is on leave and another women was taking over for him but yet we hear nothing again. From what I was told, every table that night was called because no TIP was able to be processed. I hope they handled everyone else in a better way for their own sake. For this kind of restaurant it's very disappointing to say the least.

Yelp
Woodmereram 21 Reviewed 3 days ago Not in good company A recent visit to the COTC was underwhelming ... Service.. was spotty. .the wait staff and waiter`s assistants seemed to lack proper training to work in a "fine" restaurant..the..table was not properly cleaned between courses..dishes were whisked away without even asking if one was done eating! Not sure what the rush was??Not professional . Food..we certainly had better..salad.. ,lobster bisque almost tasteless main meal..crab cake..very small over cooked ,bland...the lobster portion was at best two bites(must of been a baby lobster..or only one half a tail.. and gone...nothing special. Cream brulee..just about passing. Certainly not a "fine" restauraunt Not sure what all the "fuss"is about.Overall the worst meal ever had on Nantucket . The already severely overpriced meal..$135 pp plus tax ,tip.drinks and water was charged at $165pp plus tax,tip and water.. Calls to management went unanswered.

Yelp
My wife and I had an exceptional dinner last night at the Company of the Cauldron , we had the beef Wellington which was cooked absolutely perfect. With sides of sautéed brussels sprouts and new potatoes... I would've given them five stars but the popovers were little bit overdone . It was a pleasure to be back after missing it for last couple of years. It's nice that the restaurant has taken back some of the traditional things that the company in the cauldron did under the ownership of Steve and wide many years ago...

Yelp

Yelp
Went to this place and it was a $135 lobster Prix fixe dinner, so expectations were high. First up was fresh baked bread, it was just 'ok'--nothing you couldn't easily find at any generic bakery. I've got a warm spot for places that serve fresh bread so wasn't phased despite the lacklustre start. The second course was the salad. It came on a plate like it would if you were eating at an Olive Garden. No presentation whatsoever (no offence OG). The salad was good but mainly because of the fresh ingredients they use from local Bartlett Farm. They put way too much dressing on it which overpowered all the flavour from the tomatoes and other ingredients. Then came the stuffed lobster, not the best fine dining presentation but good for Red Lobster standard I guess. However, it was undercooked, it was quite obvious after several bites that it wasn't ready to be served and I left the plate half eaten. Unfortunately the few bites I did take left me with a terrible stomach ache and a sleepless night. If you feel like spending $200 (food and drinks) a night for food poisoning. This place is definitely for you. One thing good about this place though, the service was 10 out of 10. Our waiter was the nicest guy and the best thing about that place.

Yelp
I was a little nervous when I heard this was a prix fix menu. If you want to know what the menu is, go to their web page and it is listed by date. It changes every day. You must make reservations. Everyone is served their food at the same time. No full bar but they do serve beer and wine. Our first course was fresh Maine peeky toe crab cake with dijonaisse sauce. It was the best crab cake ever and the sauce went so well with it. Second course was an arugula salad with melon and green goddess dressing and shaved Parmesan cheese. The salad had enough dressing on it to taste good but it didn't overwhelm the flavor. Our main course was beef Wellington with roasted Rosemary potatoes and grilled asparagus. Everything on the plate was delicious and I really loved the potatoes. For dessert, we were served chocolate cheesecake with cherry compote. Not your traditional cheesecake. To me it was more of a mousse. It was a great end to a great dinner. Would I go back here? Definitely, whenever I'm in Nantucket.

Yelp
As a native to Nantucket since I was 6 year old, and a recurring summer resident of the island, I'm a big fan of most of the restaurants and love trying their varying menus each season. That said, our dinner last night at Company was hands down the worst I've experienced on the island in the last 5 years, and the three guests who accompanied me that evening all agree. The menu that evening was a $165 pre-fix "surf and turf". The meal started with homemade pop-overs, which were the best part of the meal. When we asked for a second pop-over we were told that the kitchen didn't have any more and had only made enough for 1 per guest. The first course consisted of an extremely plain ceasar salad, just lettuce, some dressing and a few croutons with very little taste. For the main course we were served a small cut of strip steak in the form of a filet mignon, but it was dry, over cooked and completed tasteless, in addition to being a very poor quality cut of meat. With it were two tiny lobster tails (about the size of two jumbo shrimp). Both were also over cooked, over-seasoned, dry and nearly impossible to get out of their open shells. Lastly for dessert we were served a piece of Black Forest cake that was literally inedible - and this coming from a chocolate lover that loves all forms of chocolate. The cake was dry with cherry jubilee filling and tasteless frosting - something that tasted like it had just come from the local supermarket. As the most expensive pre fix menu on the island, the entire meal tasted at best like what you would expect at a large-scale wedding or conference. The saddest part is that this used to be one of the most delicious and innovative restaurants in New England. That night the four of us left the Cauldron feeling like we had been bewitched, and headed over to Steamboat Pizza to repair the damage. Save your money and do not attend this establishment - perhaps reviews from prior years were better but the food has gone down the pan this season!

Courtney C.

Yelp
I have been to company of the cauldron three times over the past six years and it remains one of the cutest and coziest restaurants on the island. the service is always good and the food is truly delicious but I find it to be overpriced for what you get: $135/person for a popover, a family-style shared salad, an entree and dessert. On this occasion we enjoyed a caesar salad and beef wellington, which was to die for!! It is definitely a special occasion restaurant and we do love to come, but I cannot justify coming every time we're on the island.

Kristin M.

Yelp
Beware. My family had to cut our trip short this past weekend due to one of our dogs getting acting lethargic. I tried calling the restaurant Saturday morning after booking our ferry tickets home and didn't get an answer and so I canceled on the Resy app which is where I saw the warning "this may trigger a $50 cancellation fee", but figured that the restaurant would be reasonable and accommodating when explaining the situation and providing proof of return ticket. The person I spoke to said he would talk to the manager and call me back. I saw the $200 charge on my credit card and called back a day later to see where this stood and it was very clear the the person I spoke to had made zero attempt to work with the manager of consider the circumstances and was very contradictory in his reasons why, and extremely rude. In my 10 years of coming to the island, I've never had this type of experience and will certainly not be dining here in the future.

Yelp
Nantucket fine dining! We researched in advance, made reservations, and showed up for the one 7pm seating pre-high season on a Friday night. Overall a very pleasant experience, the food was good but for $95/person I would hope so. The price changes per day based on what is being served. Friday's menu: Popovers with butter Endive and radicchio salad New York strip steak with mushrooms and a béarnaise sauce Chocolate cream puffs Popovers were superb, crusty outside served hot with a hollow inside to line with butter. The endive and radicchio salad was a huge hit at our table, I went back for seconds. The Fiji apples offered a lovely and unexpected crunch. The New York strip was cooked to a consistent temperature for the entire restaurant (not sure if you're picky about the temperature how this would work out), good - but the real star were the mushrooms and béarnaise sauce. The chocolate cream puffs were light and airy filled with a luscious cream. While the food was great, I would comment on the experience as one arrives. We had read the menu online ahead of time, but at no point did a waiter greet us and explain the overall courses. Each course was detailed as it came out. There seemed to be an assumption that all patrons were regulars and "in the know" - perhaps an opportunity to engage with new guests? I also was in an interesting table that had to be moved so I could reach the bench seat against the wall. Company of the Cauldron was supposed to be the culinary highlight of our Nantucket weekend, despite still being delicious - I had other better Nantucket food experiences while paying 30% less. That in itself resulted in a four, not five star review.

Yelp
2 seatings - set menu - historical place - wine & beer only - if a larger party, request the chef's table. This spot has an interesting concept. Two seatings and a set menu. They release the menu for the week that Sunday/Monday with Monday being lobster night. I do suggest making reservations well in advance as the place is small! The three course meal is about $70-$74/pp. Service is on point (a special high five to Steve!). Our menu for the night we attended: Pasta with little neck clams. Steak. My dad and I opted for a fish dish since he can't eat red meat and I honestly don't love steak in any form. They don't encourage this, but imagining they made the exception since we were a party of 8. Carrot Cake. The pasta with clams was perfection. A perfect starter portion size, perfectly cooked pasta with 3 clams in the the shell. Everyone raved about the steak and I loved my piece of fish. The only slight dissatisfaction I heard of was that people didn't love the carrot cake. I honestly don't love carrot cake anyway, so I'm here nor there on it. A fine meal located in dark, very Nantucket-y type place that's the perfect setting for a romantic night out. One of the older Nantucket establishments still around. Yes, the menu's a crapshoot. If you're picky you may run into some issues, but everything seems to be so well done here, so not too many problems. A definite must while on Nantucket.

Yelp
WARNING! Do yourself a favor and do not go this restaurant. The food is terrible (I've had better food at weddings at the VFW). The food is smothered in salt and poorly executed sauces. A $20 bottle of wine will cost you $160. Expect to leave spending a minimum of $400 a couple and feeling very confused and unsatisfied. They are riding the on the French Laundry name. It's for suckers, tourists, and Nouveau riche. Also, I have tried to call and email and received zero correspondence in return. This place is likely bankrupt and has nothing to lose. I doubt they'll be in business this time next year.....

Larry H.

Yelp
My wife and I had planned a trip to Nantucket for our 50th anniversary. In looking around for dining options for our anniversary dinner, by chance we found Company of the Cauldron. With further investigation we learned the Chef/Owner is Joe Keller, co-founder of the French Laundry with brother Thomas Keller. As we had dined at French Laundry last month and loved it, this seemed to be the logical choice. We contacted the restaurant about options and their Exec Assistant Jordana Fleischut happily responded and assisted us with all our dinner plans. Jordana and Chef Joe went over the top to make our dining event a night we will never forget. The Seafood Bouillabaisse was incredible as were all the other little things that made the night so special. Thank you Joe and Jordana for giving us a memory for life. p.s. Joe will soon close the restaurant for the winter but you can visit him at one of his restaurants in Las Vegas where he will be creating more incredible meals this winter. Larry & Katherine

Yelp
Less than 10mins after my friend picked us up from the ferry and she was already telling me of her friend who, in her words, was 'like a top chef'. I suppose that's to be expected when one posts food photos and restaurant reviews. So after my friend raved about Matt's cooking we had to check out the Cauldron. The Friday menu sounded better than Saturday's but they were already booked for Friday and our itinerary conflicted with the seating schedule so we decided on going Saturday instead. The meal started with grilled prawns and compressed watermelon (yes, compressed.. Don't ask me how) and a salad of microgreens, feta, and key lime vinaigrette. The contrast of flavors and texture worked very well. For the entree we had a classic beef Wellington with mushrooms, port wine sauce, and roasted potatoes and green beans. It was very well executed but it's also a classic dish and my palate tends to prefer more 'exotic' flavors so I actually liked the first course better. For dessert, it was lemon cheesecake with dulce de leche and cookie crumble. Not just any cheesecake though, it was made using the sous vide method instead of baking it. I was in love! The texture reminded me of the no-bake cheesecake I make and my friend described it as 'hovering'. It didn't float, it hovered. It was amazing and I was very happy! The restaurant atmosphere veered towards the formal but the service is friendly and not stiff. The meal itself is rather pricey but for a special occasion it's totally worth it. Over all the food was excellent. But I would like to see them serve more exciting fare, but then again, given their clientele that might not be the best way to go. So, I give the food 4 stars but combined with the service and all other aspects of our dining experience they get 5 stars from me.

Charles D.

Yelp
Worst restaurant experience I can remember. What is sold as a pre-fixed dining experience is actually a slow, incredibly underwhelming, and uncomfortable meal. The ribeye steak was served cool, undercooked, and covered in barbecue sauce with one chopped and uncooked carrot and strangely seasoned rice and beans. The server completely ignored us for 30-45 minutes at a time and never asked if we were pleased with the food. And then they charge $135 per person excluding tips and drinks for a horrible meal. Paid $400 per couple and it was worth $50 at best.

Donna K.

Yelp
We just finished our unbelievably memorable five star dining experience here - I had to write that this meal was the finest I have ever had on island and top five in the world -- The wait staff and chef Keller went above and beyond to serve 3 courses -- massaged kale salad in avocado dressing then the wild king salmon that tasted simultaneously of the sea and wood and "loaded ' cauliflower with gruyere and an Apple pie with ice cream and whipped - bravo COC!!! My best friend since childhood and I were so pampered cosseted and coddled - shout out to Johnny Garcia and chef K for making us feel so special and satisfied-- an experience unrivaled!

Mary S.

Yelp
Worst. Meal. Ever. Do yourself a favor and stay away! There are lots of amazing dining options in Nantucket - Company of the Cauldron is not one of them. I have never had a meal that was so bland and poorly prepared. There is a lot of hype - but no talent here. I was just notified that Company of the Cauldron is trying to get my Yelp and Trip Advisor reviews removed and investigate my accounts. They claim my reviews are not based on my experience, but are an attempt to ruin their reputation. I can assure readers that I still remember the overcooked swordfish and undercooked potatoes covered in a bland white sauce. I told the chef that I would write a review. I am a real customer letting others know about the horrible and expensive meal I was served at the Company of the Cauldron on 8/4/17. Instead of trying to delete reviews from unsatisfied customers, they should focus on serving better food.

Julie P.

Yelp
I enjoyed brunch and dinner. The pop overs are just wonderful! Dinner was served with a very fresh wedge salad, Fresh free range roasted chicken paired with a delightful summer medley. Chocolate Flan is to die for!!!! Staff is friendly, helpful, and efficient. Price point is spot on for the amount of food per serving! I will definitely be returning. Wonderful wine choices, and pairings!

Will D.

Yelp
My wife and I came in here for the soft opening.. The meal was absolutely perfect. Popovers, Caesar salad, coq au vin, and creme brûlée. The wine pairings for each course were fantastic. Chef Joseph is absolutely excellent, and a wonderful host. The front of house staff were very friendly and pleasant as well. The atmosphere is romantic and old world beautiful. We will absolutely return!

Chuck K.

Yelp
Last night, my husband and I had a most disappointing meal. Not only was it over priced but the preparation was anything but high end. We have been to Company of the Cauldron many times over the past 12 years, and though we knew the restaurant had changed hands, we were confident that this experience would, at least, be as wonderful. Boy, were we wrong! The meal served was their surf and turf. The steak was over done and tasteless. For these prices, there should be an attempt to prepare meat to the customer's desired temperature. The waiter made no inquiry as to how we wanted our meat prepared. The shrimp were ok but there could have been more. Our salad was very watery as if the ingredients had not been dried before combining them together. Dessert wasn't anything special. Company of the Cauldron is a Nantucket institution and it's a shame to see how it's gone so far down hill. The new management isn't afraid to charge top dollar, but bottom line for a tab of $350.00, we expect more, a lot more.

Adam F.

Yelp
So with a Zagat 27 rating and the reviews here I was expecting a lot more. This was a serious emperor's new clothes experience - this place is a buffet. An over $100 per head buffet. The kitchen only plates pre-prepared food, the fillet steak had been sitting in its own juices for far too long, the lobster and leek crepe was soggy. If you are ever tempted to this avoid, there are better places that actually cook food like Oran mor and Straight Wharf for this kind of money.

Kim P.

Yelp
They have an interesting concept at the Company of the Cauldron. 2 seatings, set menu, and a harpist! You can view their menus a week in advance on their website. Each night is something different, so if you see an evening that is up your alley, call and make the reservation - because they book up fast. On evenings they do their Lobster 3 Ways (I think that's how many ways...) it gets booked up fast. We've only been a few times, but have always enjoyed it.

Paul M.

Yelp
I was expecting more from this place. They served risotto with scallop, pea and ham but they chose to ignore my wife's request for vegetarian. The waiter apologized but did not have a substitute (she called 2 weeks ahead of time to let them know she was a vegetarian). The fluke entree was prepared fantastic but the leeks and onion covered haricot vert were overwhelming. The wait staff was also quick to remove any plate from the table. I had to remind one of the staff that our wine bottle was not empty as he took away my glass - he apologized and poured the rest of my wine. The desert was good but nothing special. Overall, the experience was too formulaic. I appreciate the rotating menu but it takes away from the overall experience when you are rushed through dinner (they had the 8:45pm seating coming up, you know). I would feel like giving this place another chance if they just took their time serving the food and being more attentive to their customers.

Andrea C.

Yelp
Simply amazing. I read about Company of the Cauldron on Yelp before our Nantucket trip and checked the website hourly to see if they updated the menu for our week. Once we picked a day and made our reservation, we counted down the days! The thing with Cauldron is that everyone gets the same prix fixed menu. They have an extensive wine list that we took advantage of as well. The food was impeccable. From the bread to dessert, everything was so delicious and fresh. The chef prepares the dishes so beautifully, too! My favorite part of the meal was dessert; carrot cake with cream cheese ice cream. Everyone got 2-3 bite sized loaf with a scoop of ice cream that tasted like cream cheese. How inventive! NOTE TO PATRONS: They have a weird reservation policy. You have to call them the day of \by noon in order to keep your reservation. If you don't, they'll give your table to someone else. I completely forgot to do this, fortunately, they call you twice to follow up before really giving your table away. So yes, it's strange, but you know what? Deal with it. The food is that good.

Yelp
Our first time dining at this very interesting restaurant. As we walked in, we got the feeling of being in a old European family place. Soft lighting with candles on the tables. Formal table settings and very polite staff. They have a set menu so you better look ahead to see what they are serving for that day you plane to dine. They change it once a week according to the locals. They were accommodating if you wish to substitute out the main fish dish for meat or meat for fish but you have to give them a days notice. This made two of my kids very happy, The crab cake in a corn chowder was fantastic as the app. The salad was fresh and the main courses were hot and filled with great flavors. The deconstructed cheesecake was the topper. Even the kids finished every bite.

Yelp
Just put the good food in front of me and don't let my own biases get in the way. This place was great- so glad we came here.

Yelp
Lobster night was fantastic! Love this place! A bit spendy but worth it. Intimate setting but surprisingly not load inside. Great service and delish!

Yelp
My wife and I went to Company of the Cauldron this past weekend. While the food is very good, and the chateaubriand was probably the most tender steak I have ever had, it wasn't a life changing experience. The restaurant itself is small, cozy and kind of rustic, and was comfortable to eat in. Given the size of the restaurant you can see the chefs at work on their main table in the back, which was kind of neat. It seemed to take a while to bring out each course, I'm guessing because they were trying to coordinate the serve to all the patrons. The presentation of the main course was actually somewhat sloppy, which is something you would tend to expect in a pricey restaurant but not something I'm that hung up on. Given that I wasn't wowed over, and considering the price, I probably wouldn't return.

Yelp
Went there tonight to celebrate birthdays. True five star intimate off season experience with inviting cozy service and classic food. Lamb chops were perfectly cooked with tangy mustard and bread crumbs. Great salad and desert courses and well paced. coco has been a tradition on Nantucket for decades , kudos to chef Jospeh for so seamlessly keeping it going and ...making it even better. Thanks for a great meal and memorable evening !!

Yelp
We had our two-year anniversary dinner here. It's tailor made for such a romantic evening, as it is set in a charming old home with a harpist and dim lighting. A nice balance, being refined without stuffy. As for the food, here everyone eats the exact same three-course meal, which changes daily, and generally is priced around $60. I generally like limited menus, but it would have been nice if there was a choice of two things, so that each couple could share. Anyways, the first course, a crab cake served in a "deconstructed corn chowder" was delicious - incredibly fresh corn, and quite unique. However I was a little disappointed with the main course of Atlantic halibut in a key lime preparation - I found the lime sauce overpowering and not a complement to fish or any of the meal really. The dessert course was a delicious chocolate ganache. All in all, a very good meal that I would recommend to any couple looking for a nice meal in Nantucket. It came to $200 or so with a nice bottle of white.

Yelp
We used to love to eat dinner here! Before kids..... so it's been a while, but we met Chef Joseph last summer while our littles were petting his fabulous canine friend. He invited the whole family back. 1 year later we took him up on his generous invitation for our family, including a 3 and 6 year old to enjoy dinner. No disappointments here! Although we had some questioning looks from fellow diners, we had a terrific meal with chicken and waffles as the main. Perfect for our littles! Seasonal salad was first and the staff was accommodating to my fresh tomato allergy serving the heirloom beauties on the side so everyone else could still enjoy. The waffles were hot with a crispy crust and creamy delicious center. The fried chicken was some of the best we have had, moist and tender with perfect crust and seasoning. Having lived a long while in the New Orleans area, the best is no small feat. Our waiter was en pointe, a wonderful gentleman from Portugal. The kids loved the head-size popovers with butter. There were extra chicken legs for the kids and family service was perfect. We had the wine paring and did not feel shorted on quality or quantity all evening (I may have needed a hand walking home!) dessert, a salted brown sugar with figs masterpiece went over well for all of us. Kids were happy, and delightfully, several neighbors complimented their behavior which was not in small part due to their attentive care. Chef, we loved our dinner and cannot wait to return!

Yelp
The new management/owners have ruined this restaurant. When making a decision, do not consider reviews from 2016 and earlier. They are for what Company of the Cauldron used to be...an amazing establishment. My family has been eating at Company of the Cauldron for over ten years and we used to love this place... but I was so disappointed by this meal I decided to revive my yelp account to write this review. If you have been to the Company of the Cauldron of old do not give this new management a shot. You will leave upset that you ruined your memory of delicious meals at this once fine establishment. We went on "lobster night" and were disappointed by every course. It started with a tasteless popover, then moved on to an underdressed salad that was overpowered by bleu cheese. Next was a pretty horrible lobster bisque that was actually off-putting. The entree was overcooked lobster tails and claws with lobster mac and cheese that lacked cheese and seasoning. Dessert was just as underwhelming. Overall incredibly unsatisfying meal, especially for how much they charge. Probably would have had a more enjoyable seafood dinner at Red Lobster. Even the servers acknowledge the fact that the quality has dropped. This is the last time we will eat at Company of the Cauldron.

Yelp
We had made reservations in advance and arrived for an 8:30 seating. To our surprise, we entered a completely empty restaurant. In July, on a Saturday night. Within a few minutes the dining room gained 7 other diners for a total of 9. This place changed hands 2 years ago and I should have read the reviews because it's star rating since the change over is terrible. We were seated in a "throne" table that the waiter pulls out for you and your dining partner to sit side by side. If you need to use the restroom as one must push the entire table to escape, which is harder than it sounds. The menu is set -- you are not able to order a la Carte. The menu on the night of our visit was a Caesar salad followed by a beef bourguignon on pasta followed by profiterole dessert. In lieu of bread they delivered popovers, which were the best part of the meal. The salad was served family style and was better than your typical Caesar salad but not very unique. The beef dish would have been nice on a cool evening in November -- not a hot night in July. Everything about the waitstaff / service experience felt awkward. I felt badly for the waitress working there. Despite the tiny attendance, we had to routinely ask to get water refilled. We opted into a wine pairing and it was in our view overpriced for what we received. There are so many great options on the island for dinner and I regret using one of our few nights on this expensive and awkward dining experience. The chef's brother may be running the French Laundry but this place isn't it. I would recommend they try to relax a bit, brighten up the tired decor, rework the uncomfortable "throne" table, and offer diners an option of perhaps several appetizers and entrees, appropriate to each season. The current course of this place is unsustainable beyond this season and they should make changes immediately to try to make the most of what's left this summer.

Yelp
I have wanted to eat here for a few years, but I never managed to catch the restaurant on a night when the menu suited my tatses. There is a set menu with just a llittle room for options, so I waited until menu seemed just right. The food gets three- four stars. the salad was plain, just romaine and cucumber and left something to be desired. The main course excellent, halibut cooked to perfection. The dessert was very sad- some sort of bibcuit, Southern Style, with a few strawberries. the best course was the thai soup. The atmosphere is cozy and lovely, but the tables are smushed together. Also, the practice of serving everyone at the same time makes the restaurant seemed a bit harried and the pace seem rushed. Overall, try it, but not if it's the only place you get to eat on Nantucket this year.

Yelp
It's so sad what happened to this once amazing restaurant. The "chef" should be ashamed of the food they served Monday (the once unbelievably great lobster night) and the price per person. It was ridiculous. Save you're money.

Yelp
Atmosphere had an old sort of witchy feel to it that reminded me of Salem, MA. The service was very good. The prix-fix menu started with paella. Typically paella is one of my top favorite dishes and I order it whenever it's on the menu. Here though, it resembled a cheesey-yellow/orange microwaveable rice dish that you get from a packet. Don't get me wrong, the presentation was beautiful, but the flavor wasn't great, kind of bland. The main course was the filet mignon, mashed potatoes, and zucchini. This was all great, can't complain about any of it. The dessert was baklava with Brie ice cream. I'm not a baklava fan and the ice cream tastes like cold-whipped cream cheese.... Wasn't crazy about it. Overall it was good, not great and not worth $75 dollars for me.

Yelp
It's difficult for me to give one of my favorite restaurants a three star rating, but unfortunately, it's well deserved. Service and ambience is never lacking and always consistent, but unfortunately, the meal itself left us disappointed for a variety of reasons. The appetizer with clams was sandy - both dishes. Clearly they were not cleaned to perfection and eating anything with sand is a giant no-no. The beef, although presented beautifully and deserving a photo in a magazine missed big-time. It was chewy, tough, almost gamey. You were forced to eat in small bites to be able to chew it. Desert is really where the star's come through - it was spot on. Never had I had more creamy ice-cream in my life (nor, do I think I will) paired with a raspberry sauce - it was off the charts. Wish the other two courses were the same.

Yelp
I was terribly excited for what was sure to be a fabulous meal. After all, CoC has been one of my favorite restaurants on ACK for a while and then I learned that it was recently purchased by Joseph Keller (who was supposedly involved with his brother, Thomas Keller, at The French Laundry and Per Se). Before the meal, I was already thinking of coming back next week for Lobster Monday - yes, I was excited for this meal. It was a bit of a red flag to see empty tables. I can't recall the last time I've seen that at this place...if ever. I initially didn't think much of it, it was a rainy evening. The wine list was a bit better, but terribly overpriced. I ordered a Caymus Cab ($180), as I thought the meal (beef Wellington) deserved a good partner. The popovers, despite being served oddly (literally dumped off the serving dish onto my plate) were pretty good. Surprised the butter was lacking, but I could overlook that. The wedge salad was quite tasty - an elevated version of a steakhouse tradition. I wasn't thrilled that they were serving it family style for you to serve yourself, but again, I could get over it. The beef Wellington came out and looked delicious. Served with fingerling potatoes and sautéed broccolini. The broccolini with garlic didn't make sense for this dish at all and was a dish I'd expect at someone's house with a quick "Sunday Supper", but the star of the dish, so I thought was the Wellington. The biggest disappointment came when I tried to saw through that mess of a beef Wellington. It looked so good, but was sooooooo over cooked that it was gray and stringy. The sauce helped resuscitate it enough where you could get it down, but that was about all I could say. While you are eating, the wait staff is nowhere to be found and didn't bother asking how everything was until you were nearly done - I assume they knew the drill. When I told the waitress that the steak was way over cooked she promptly went back to the chef and came back with the response that "they are all cooked the same way". What??? Is this guy that egotistical? Hey, Joey...YOU ARE NOT THOMAS KELLER. Luckily I had chatted up the table next to me (actually one over, because, as I mentioned, there were plenty of empty tables) and they had the same experience. So yes, the "chef" was right, they were all cooked the same way - all completely over done. So the other table also voiced their opinion and the waitress went to check on other tables. She eventually came back to the other table and explained that the chef was getting used to a new oven. Are you kidding me? Do that on your own time, with your own money! I'm not your test kitchen. The waitress didn't even come back to my table to offer that sorry excuse - nor any response whatsoever. I was so disappointed in the entree and the lack of hospitality that I didn't even bother sticking around for dessert. When I asked for the check the waitress was very apologetic and I truly believe she felt bad. She mentioned that she got caught up dealing with some other issue and forgot to follow up. She took the meals off the check, which was a nice gesture. Unfortunately, too little, too late. I'd rather have paid for a meal that I'd enjoyed. Needless to say, the CoC WAS a fabulous restaurant, but unfortunately all good things must come to an end. Good bye, CoC. I miss you already. Maybe one day a good restaurant will take over the space so it can once again be a gem. I'll be waiting.

Yelp
We ate here with our children for our anniversary. They offer only a prix fixe menu of three courses for $75 per person. For that price, we were expecting exceptional food and great service. We experienced neither. The food was well prepared but there was nothing interesting nor imaginative in the meal - no amuse bouche, no post dinner surprise - not memorable in any way. The entire room had the filet mignon and no one was asked how they wanted it cooked. For dessert, one of us asked to remove a presentation item and the waiter said "sure" but returned with the dessert as originally made. We were treated like numbers, not customers celebrating a special occasion. The staff was similarly disinterested in us. We have been coming to Nantucket for many years and have never had such a disappointing meal from a restaurant that clearly has no interest in a return visit from us.

Yelp
Eh. It's ok. The tables are crammed together and there is no room. When the host has to pull out your table for you to be able to sit down, there's an issue... I was really looking forward to this dinner and expecting it to be amazing but it was really just mediocre. We were served paella for the first course, which was delicious. The main was steak, mashed potatoes and zucchini. The dessert was vanilla Panna cotta and biscotti. I may be biased because those are my two least favorite desserts. If you go, maybe try for a Monday because I've heard the lobster 4 way night is delicious! Overall ok but they should really remove some of the tables so you aren't crammed in and literally 4" from the next table.

Yelp
This place is really close to being a top island restaurant, but there are a couple of flaws that should be worked out at this price level. They always have a really interesting menu that will appeal to a lot of people without being run-of-the-mill. The service is fantastic and a great atmosphere. Check out the weekly menu and pick one that works for you. Must have reservations. The best thing: Fantastic service. After every course is served the server explains exactly what you're eating and answers any questions. The last time I was there I hadn't remembered they only serve wines by the bottle. I don't drink much and only wanted a glass of the wine, but my request was misunderstood so that a whole bottle was opened for me. The server said not to worry and just charged me for a glass. That's the mark of a really good restaurant. The worst thing: They cram a LOT of tables into a tiny space. If one person is sitting with their back to the wall, their table mates have to get up and move the table if they want to get out to use the restroom (which is crummy, go before you leave the house). There are just a few inches of space between the tables that you can't squeeze through and nil privacy. The tables themselves are also really small -- after plates, glasses and silverware everything is covered. What I ate the last time: Started out with a homemade pasta served with grilled shrimp, sweet corn, and a salsa verde. It blew me away and I'll probably spend the next two months trying to recreate it at home. The main was a sous vide strip steak. I'd never had this trendy preparation before, but it came out only warm. I'm not sure if that was intentional, but I would prefer something piping hot. Still it was delicious and came with a sauce that made me want to lick the plate. The sides were kind of a throw-away. I think it was spinach and mashed potatoes with fennel. Not memorable and i expected a bit more. The dessert was toasted carrot cake with cream cheese ice cream and a rum raisin sauce. After eating this, I wonder why everyone isn't making cream cheese ice cream. It was the perfect sweet and slightly sour note for the dessert. I just wish there had been twice as much rum raisin sauce.

Yelp
A wonderful place to go for a special occasion. There's a different menu every night, so plan in advance when to go. It's always nice to go to a restaurant where the employees seem genuinely happy to work there, and this is one. One of my favorite restaurants anywhere.

Yelp
Very authentic New England establishment. Some of the best steak I've had in a while. Perfectly cooked. Well done.

Yelp
You can't go wrong here. Best for a romantic dinner for two. Even if you are a vegetarian and can't eat what they're serving they'll do up an amazing veggie meal for you. Worth it!
