This is the type of restaurant that I wish I could find more of back home. The menu changes daily and is all dependent on what the chef gets from the market each morning.
My family and I came here in January while on vacation in beautiful Marseille. None of us really speak French except for my sister who remembers random things from her high school language classes. We tried to decipher the menu that was written on the chalkboard, but couldn't really understand anything. Luckily one of the owners, who was also serving tables, actually hails from Massachusetts! She happily described each dish for us.
I had veal that was cooked to perfection--it was falling apart and just so well seasoned. The roasted local vegetables paired perfectly with the veal. I was trying to eat slowly (which was pretty difficult since they were so good) just so I could savor every bit of it.
For dessert we had a three kings day inspired cake (it was the day after three kings) which was citrus flavored and an orange creme. Both were light, airy, and quite good.
We all really enjoyed our meal and wished we would've gone to Le Comptoir Dugommier sooner. If I'm ever back in Marseille or Southern France I will definitely make sure to come here!!
